New Header Revealed
Posted by SBFII Admin on June 08, 2009

We would like to thank everyone who voted for their favourite header in the design contest, we can now reveal that the winning header was designed by our fansite member: heart.shaped.glasses.

It was a close run contest and we would like to thank all who submitted their designs, we would have liked to include all 60+ header designs in the final vote but setting this up would have been very difficult and confusing for members to take part in, hopefully other headers can be used sometime in the future.

We have tried our best to let members get involved in this contest and it has taken some time to make this happen. We hope that everyone is happy with the final outcome and hopefully we can do more contests like this in the future.

We are also trying our best to get the much needed forum up and running as soon as possible so please be patient.

We would also like to do a new blog post for Susawords which seems very popular, we also think is a great idea and could maybe set up a new page to list all words for reference.

WINNER: (Header 2) heart.shaped.glasses

It looks fabulous! First choice for me, but there were so many good ones! Looks like I'm going to need to wait until I hear from our site administrator before either posting or submitting the Susawords Corner. I do hope to learn more about that, soon.

Here's an interesting snippet from a regional newspaper in Darlington of all places:

THE world knows by now that Susan Boyle ended up in the Priory after her defeat in the final of Britain’s Got Talent. What’s not so well known is that media inquiries about Susan were directed to Darlington.

The Priory’s public relations’ needs are handled by local company Recognition, and Susan’s admission to the clinic led to calls from all over the world.

Company partner Frances Bourne took one particular call from a pair of American men at 3am. Insisting they were related to Susan, they were desperate to speak to her.

“Susan’s Scottish – you don’t sound like you might be related,” said Frances.

It was at that point that the Americans tried to prove they really were related by bursting into a rendition of Memory, the song from Cats, which Susan sang in the show.

“It was so awful, it sounded more like Susan’s cat, Pebbles, singing,” said Frances.

She politely declined to put them through.

Very beautiful. It was my favourite.
Posted by NarnianGirl on June 08, 2009
Yee, I'm glad - the best one won! The people have spoken... ;) Not that the others were that bad either...!
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
(laughing) Just more Susan addicts trying to get to speak with her. That's pretty good DJG - also liked what you said about finally the right one won.

Folks are still posting on the old blog page - told 'em about this one. I'll tell you, when the thread gets as long as the old one, my computer bogs down and I have to type one letter at a time, wait, then the next etc. So nice to have a new page.
Posted by stevieboy49 on June 08, 2009
Looks great....! And thanks for the new blog. I was getting eye strain trying to get through all the posts on the old one! Any chance of automatically generating a new one after so many posts - say 500 max (if that isn't too many???). I know that might take some setting up, but it would make things much easier. Cheers for now.

Looks fantastic -- this was my choice for the winner and congratulations to the designer!

For whoever was wanting to see Susan's audition from the start where she is eating the sandwich, if you will go to the home page and click on the Wall Street Journal advert. there, it has it. Also, DailyMotion.com has it.

A new blog, hooray!. SpiritualWoman I left a posting for you on the previous one. Also for you johnnycakes.

And Hooray for getting rid of the old header. The new one wasn't my first choice, but is beautiful too.

We are leaving the dank swamps behind and moving into the uplands.

A beautiful header stars for a wonderful star well done
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Just watched the Susan vs Elain Page video. Wow! Here's the thing: Ms. Page is very good and I think she is a nice person due to her gracious compliments about Susan. But when Susan sings, aside from the fact that her voice is more pure, she makes me FEEL the song. She isn't putting on the drama - just sings from the heart. And puts me in touch with all my feelings at once.

Howdy Pards,

CONGRATULATIONS to the winner! But, make no mistake everyone who contributed a banner idea is a winner in my book. They all were mighty fine.

Now the focus is on Lady Susan Boyle where it should be...and my gosh she looks every bit the star in our new banner.

I used to belong to another club, long, long ago...one of the biggest stars ever as I recall...and we met every day. At the end of our meeting we'd sing "forever let us hold our banner high"... I spect some of you folks were a member of that outfit too. Well, we're still holdin' that banner high...and now we got a beautiful new one to forever hold high as well.

My thanks to all you participated in this contest. Like I say, you are all winners in my book.

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Wild Ol' Dan

Susan Boyle has told Britain's Got Talent bosses she is ready for the show's live tour after leaving The Priory.

Rumours were rife that the Scottish singing sensation would miss the 27 gigs which start on Birmingham on Friday.

Susan, 48, is still taking it easy after spending nearly a week in The Priory clinic after she lost out to Diversity in the show's grand finale.

She is thought to be resting at a secret hideaway, where she has been joined by her cat Pebbles.

An Britain's Got Talent aide was spotted collecting it from her home in Blackburn, West Lothian.

Britain's Got Talent star Susan Boyle 'will take part in tour'

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/5472659/Britains-Got-Talent-star-Susan-Boyle-will-take-part-in-tour.html

Susan Boyle, the star of Britain's Got Talent, has insisted she will be well enough to take part in the show's nationwide tour.

Published: 7:00AM BST 08 Jun 2009

Boyle checked into the Priory clinic on Sunday after what her brother described as an anxiety attack.

The 48-year old singer has recently emerged from the Priory following a breakdown after the final of the TV contest.

Following the five day stay, it was feared she was too fragile to cope with the 27 show tour but The Sun said the star has told aides: "I'd hate to let my fans down. They put me in this amazing position and I owe it to them as a mark of thanks."

A source close to the Scotswoman added: "She has made it clear she wants to be a part of the tour, no matter what. Producers and those close to her have told her the decision is entirely up to her and there is no pressure whatsoever.

"But she's very headstrong and would love the chance to perform at such incredible venues in front of so many people."

If Boyle does go on tour, the producers will breathe a sigh of relief. There were fears that there would be empty seats at least 12 of the venues if Boyle was not part of it.

In the space of eight weeks, she went from the quiet life of a church volunteer in a small town in Scotland to global fame.

But she was beaten into second place by Essex dance outfit Diversity in a shock result last Saturday.

Reports claimed that following the programme, she shouted backstage "I hate this show" and threw a glass of water at a member of staff who tried to calm her.

TalkbackThames, which produces Britain's Got Talent, has said Boyle was "exhausted and emotionally drained" and was being offered "ongoing support".

I don't always have time to go through all the blogs for updates as there is so much banter. I have no problem with that but it would be nice to have a place to find all the latest news articles IMO.

Great new banner. It catches the eye at once, and is both simple and professional looking.

Glad to hear that Susan will be appearing on the tour. I wish her well at this start to her career.

Congratulations to new banner winner. David, Rocky 10, does anyone know whether it's true if Susan will sing at the White House...I read this am: Will Susan Boyle perform at the White House this summer?

With speculation swirling about her mental state and next steps, the latest rumors have the global singing sensation set to perform for President Barack Obama. According to reports, she's been invited to the White House for the 4th of July celebrations.

"The Insider" has word from Michelle Obama's press secretary, saying, "It's actually not true."

Also, there was another posting in Washington Post, this is wrong, as well.

oh no, the header has changed! can you just flash those headers alternatively? they're all good, lovely, inspiring, all kudos. congratulations to all for your talents.
Posted by Rocky10 on June 08, 2009
tweek,

Susan's brother has said several times that she has been invited so who knows?

Maybe they are waiting to see how she copes on tour before deciding. Hopefully she will cope brilliantly and then who knows?

Would it be normal to invite a Brit to perform on 4th July given what it celebrates?

note to those people suggesting on another thread that the Brits were against the Scots in the voting. A Scot is also a Brit!

Beautiful banner!

We posted this info last night on the previous blog, and I'm reposting here because it's such an interesting discovery!

As if you all didn't have enough to do... Have you ever clicked the red button with the number, at the bottom of the page? It takes you to statistics for who is visiting the Susan Boyle Fan Site right now. If you click on the map, you can even see what parts of the world they live in. The answer is...every continent, with the possible exception of Antarctica (although I'm sure the scientists down there have discovered Susan Boyle, too)!

Also, when you go to the statistics map, by right clicking you can zoom in to any area. If you zoom in to the northeastern part of the USA, you see the many little visitor stars are stacked on top of each other! And, if you change the map view to "heat" you see that the hottest place in the world for Susan Boyle fans is in northeastern USA. Susan Boyle, welcome to BROADWAY! (She could be announced as a special guest singer in any show or venue and sell out the house!)

I imagine that Susan will still be on tour July 4th. Loved the part about their saying that if Susan is not on the tour there will be empty seats. Ain't that the truth!

This morning I checked the entertainment section of MSN and typed in Susan Boyle - I got Oprah Winfrey. Sent them a nice little note telling them about that. I don't think the U.S. has quite gotten the message of how many millions of global fans are interested in Susan and not that interested in Oprah. They have now.

Brazil - Here in Brazil, Rede Globo Television, through the Great, issued a report last night miserable, which caused shock and anger among the fans of Susan in Brazil. I myself am very sad, and I wrote my protest at the site where most of the fantastic and could. Even here. They said in the report that Susan has mental retardation, that the producers lost interest in it because it has poor repertoire, which manipulated the ITV faces and mouths from the first presentation, I put the link here to edit area, to disgusting. Worse than the online Brazilian press report that is passed in the same way that prejudiced the Great.

I 'googled' Susan's name again and got on this site. What really amazes me is the extent to which respected journalists can get their facts so WRONG! Check out this - http://entertainment.oneindia.in/music/international/2009/susan-cinema-fodder-080609.html Now, I might be wrong, but since when has Susan been "flown across the Atlantic?" I know how much many of you on the other side of the pond would wish that to have happened, but you would expect someone like Barry Norman to at least get his facts verified before he made a fool of himself! In a relatively short time, Susan will hit the shores of the USA and will be right royally welcomed, I'm sure, when she does. In the meantime, I believe that we should all hope that she continues to take her "baby steps." As for the news about her supposed trip to entertain President Obama, well I did take that one with a veritable pinch of salt and I have yet to see any proper confirmation from 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. I'll be delighted if it comes, but don't hold your breath.

Saw a headline in the UK Sun that has really ticked me off! Says "Virgin Susan Boyle Ready to Do It". Boy, did I blast them for that one. They did clarify at the end of the article that they meant she was ready to go on the tour, but that kind of thing steams me no end. Maybe some more of you would like to send your blast as well - we need to stop this sort of thing. I have a feeling we're going to be kicking some major butt today. Susan's personal life is nobody's business but hers!
Posted by outtawestie on June 08, 2009
@Lonnirose - re The Sun, yes that headline was why I posted the article as re printed in on an Indian news site on the earlier thread. The Sun is vile and we should give it as little publicity or additional circulation as possible.
Posted by IvoryMist on June 08, 2009
It also said:

She is now desperate to be on the tour, which starts in Birmingham on Friday.

Boss Simon Cowell has secured her a slot and tour insiders say she is "highly likely" to perform. But he has insisted she can pull out at any time if she feels under too much pressure.

A show source said: "Susan has recovered and is feeling on top of the world.

"She's staying with a friend back home, surrounded by loved ones and her beloved cat Pebbles.

"As the first date is just days away, everyone wants to be sure that she is 100 per cent mentally fit for it."

Susan is set to return to London this week to work on her music.

She is pushing ahead with her first album, which BGT judge Piers Morgan has predicted will sell ten million copies.

Susan has got U2's financial wizard Ossie Kilkenny, 62, to mastermind her career. She is set to make a staggering £8million here and in the US.

Love the new banner. As others above have said, it is befitting Susan's standing now, very dignified. I also appreciate all the work others did with their banner suggestions. Thanks for all the hard work.

Quick post - Great Banner! Congratulations to all who contributed, they were superb.

The winning entry captured Susan's dignity. Love it!

Just blasted Youtube too for not showing anything current on Susan. I'm on a roll!

outtawestie, I know The Sun is a rag, but even so we can't allow this sort of thing to go on. I certainly wouldn't buy the darn thing, but a glaring headline like that is insulting and degrading to Susan and I won't stand for it. Saw another article on Susan with Hollie Steele's picture instead of Susan's - even had Susan's name under the picture. The article was nice, but the picture? Told 'em about that too.

ITS BEAUTIFUL!!! Even though it was not my number 1 pick ...I love it!! It was such a nice surprise to see it on the main page!! I'm still hoping they can rotate the other banners...or use in other spots..kudo's to all!

To all who addressed me yesterday...I'm still HERE on this site, and now I'm praying that EVERYONE will just be happy and keep celebrating Susan!!

SUSAN has brought so much happiness to the WORLD!!

IS OUR NEW NAME GLOBAL VILLAGE...??? SOUNDS GOOD TO ME!!

Does anyone know if SUSAN had a celebration party in Blackburn??? Hope it was private and fun for SUSAN!!! Or did she take that v-cation that SIMON offered???

Post some url's...pics etc....I would love to know..THANKS TO ALL IN ADVANCE...AND THANKS ALLI FOR THE SUSA DICTIONARY...I WILL PRINT THAT ONE OUT!!

First thing I notice is the new banner. Congratulations to Heart Shaped Glasses! Although I voted for #3, "it's well worth it!" to quote dear Susan. You're all terrific guys. And the dictionary! Goodness, I have to cut and paste that one so I can have a look.

I may not be able to contribute videos here but I'll be writing and commenting for Susan out there in cyberspace, when I can. ;)

@Brooklyn Blessings - yes, I enjoy clicking the red button. Australia is all covered, except the Northern Territory, and all states are active right now. I've enjoyed this map since 3 days ago.

Actually, I had a good laugh tonight. I wonder if there's any fellow Sydneysider reading my post. Whilst preparing my dinner, one of our TV ads, I think that was Good News Week or something, a guy goes, "Susan Boyle won!" A lady answers, "She's Scottish!" While he kept repeating that Susan Boyle won, the lady kept refuting, she's Scottish! Hilarious! Must be an Aussie show, but the guy kept insisting Susan Boyle won. I love it!

Kelly Clarkson has been defending Susan Boyle - saying people have been ‘especially’ mean to her.

Like Susan, Kelly rose to fame via a television reality show - and talking on GMTV this morning, she said the pressures of celebrity can be hard to prepare for.

She said: "I think every person who goes through this. Right at the beginning it’s very hard, it’s hard on you. Because people can be vicious, I mean especially with her. I’ve heard nothing but horrible things people say about her.

The former American Idol winner said adjusting to life in the spotlight took time and added: "It’s one of those things. She’s from a small town, I’m from a smaller town, it takes time to be like, ‘Wow, some people are really mean.’ But you have to focus on the people that are really positive around you."

Talking about her own experience with negative publicity, Kelly said since winning American Idol, people have commented on her appearance "all the time".

She said: "It takes time, it’s like seven years later…and I’m like, alright - It’s been going alright for seven years – so I’m good

Susan has all of us plus millions of others to protect her and I think we need to keep protesting anything negative till the media and the tabloid rags pay attention. Slimoids like The Sun in the UK and the National Inquirer over here are garbage, but they're placed right on the checkout line in every store and are seen by everyone. They all have to realize how many fans Susan has and what a big star she is and treat her accordingly.

@Telscafe. I missed Good News Week, but was alarmed watching ABC News in Melbourne, they interviewed Londoners about the current political turmoil and got two reactions of 'we don't want a foreigner as Prime Minister.' A Scot apparently is a foreigner to the English! Now I'm nervous, I have a son with the most Scottish name you could imagine, working for a Scottish bank, in London!

@outtawestie sorry to hear that. Are we picking up the same ABC news - Syd or Melb? Got email? Let's pick it up in private. I kinda miss Melbourne's performing arts preso. I was funny the other day - something I've never done in my life. I went to the bookshops and videos shops including ABC and Borders (where I usually have my cuppa) told them the same thing, to start picking up orders for Susan Boyle's album. Ya-ay! ABC here have Paul Potts CD and they offered it to me. Told them, I'm after Susan's. They said, it's too soon. I said, so I'll order. Laughing!

@allikat....Thanks for using some of my suggestions is the Susanary I'm glad all the Susaworld fans can now enjoy the input so many of us had for yours and Baj...truly wonderful creation and work creating it for us. And again thank for all Susafans that worked so hard on creating a new Banner. When I first opened the site today I thought (just for a Susamilisecond) that I was in the wrong place. Anyway everyone have a wonderful day as I have to work before I am Susanated (TERMINATION OF EMPLOYMENT) for spending so much time here in the Susanation.

this was not my fav. but i do like it, its pleasent to look at and simple.
Posted by Bohemian Spirit on June 08, 2009
The new header looks really elegant and classy, and the black background sets it off well. This is much easier on the eyes than the bright red, white, and blue that preceded it, and this new banner really does justice to Susan, a much more beautiful woman than the tabloids will ever comprehend. Very nice job, Heart Shaped Glasses!

P.S. - Thanks to all who made banners, and thanks to those who voted for one of mine. ;-) I'm not crying in my beer, though, because I really really like the banner that won, and anyway I just wanted to help get the ball rolling and get the site looking more like the "new day" that has begun for Susan. And I'm guessing the other 50 or so designers feel the same way! This was fun!
Posted by david on June 08, 2009
By the way....it's not the webpage design, or the bells and whistles it may exhibit that make a web site #1.....It's the fans like those right here, each individual one of us that make it so special so I just want to say I feel priviledged to be one of the PEBBLES that make this #1 fansite the newest mountain created on earth that all future Suearthians will marvel at.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Great news story on one of the early shows and an inverview with Piers. He said Susan's CD should be out by the end of the month! Said he got into a taxi and the driver turned around and said, "How's Susan?" Piers stated she is a "one name household superstar"! He also said he'd like to have her on America's Got Talent, just to "throw down the gauntlet" and show them what kind of talent wins. It was great!
Posted by Texaslady on June 08, 2009
The new header is a very pleasant surprise. It looks fantastic!

Also, is it possible to have a location to post the latest news on Susan? That would be helpful for those folks who have sluggish computers and are trying to scroll through our hundreds of awesome comments. My computer handles it just find but it has to be frustrating for those that have trouble.

Have a good day everyone and I am looking for news of Susan as I do everyday. That is now part of my everday routine.

Posted by PIGGIE on June 08, 2009
Like others, it was such a lovely surprise to see the new header. I didn't care which one won, they were all lovely, as long as she is standing on her own now, away from all mentions of BGT.

I think this fansite is alot of fun and really enjoy it. But what is really great about it is that we really can DO something to help - it's more than just talk. I think those of us who are writing the tabloids - that is a wonderful, constructive ACTION we can take to get this madness to stop. Someone posted about Kelly Clarkson supporting Susan - yes, poor Kelly is constantly watched and every tabloid has reports on her weight.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Texaslady, great idea. I do the same thing every day, look for news of our girl. That new interview with Piers is great - very uplifting. Like him or not, he always has good things to say about Susan.
Posted by Jazzineva on June 08, 2009
Can understand why this header won for it's deserving #1 simple design. However, I'm extremely disappointed that the most flattering pictures we have of her weren't used. They absolutely don't do her justice when she wasn't at her very best. I don't like being reminded of her exhaustion or the fact that she's said in an interview (I think) that she doesn't like seeing her double chin. She's now a beautiful professional singer and these photos don't reflect that. Yet as I've seen the other comments, I may well be the only one who feels this way so I'll shut up, even though I'm convinced Susan herself would be disappointed. Sigh.
Posted by terijay on June 08, 2009
I wish they would tell her what it is like to tour- 27 dates in a month is so grueling- even for a 20 year old- 27 different hotel rooms, not getting sleep or eating right- face it, Susan is pushing 50- I admire she wants to do it for her fans- that is so like her- thinking of others- however, I wish they would arrange it so she maybe does half of the shows...I read Simon said she could bow out if it got to be too much, but then the press and fans would turn on her YET AGAIN. Those tour things are ok for say, American Idol finalists, who are by the rules, all under 30! If the producers can make special arrangements for her to make it easier, it could be o.k. Like have her brother and Doctor go along. I know I am over-protective, I just worry.
Posted by terijay on June 08, 2009
I hated that tabloid banner also "VIRGIN BOYLE" - that was rude and not necessary.

@YourAwesome and @Lonnirose...yes the link to the Today Show has a great, positive, nice report! It's the kind of thing we would love to see all the time! "The meek shall inherit the earth" -- yes, indeed! I also lol Piers' remark that he got in a cab in Las Vegas (yesterday?) and immediately the driver just said, "How's Susan?" Imagine how well-known she is -- a cab driver recognizes Piers and instantly connects him with Susan Boyle, whose present situation the driver understands because he has been following her closely, so he asks in very familiar terms, "How's Susan?" Amazing!
Posted by sis23 on June 08, 2009
The new header is GREAT, it does Susan proud.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Terijay, I understand your concern - I have it too - but I really do believe that BGT is going to look after her and see that she's treated very gently and will make sure she gets the proper rest, etc. Another point is that we mustn't forget that while most of us would be petrified to perform in front of thousands, Susan absolutely LOVES it. It's what she's always wanted. That doctor that's with her in the pictures, it is said, travels everywhere with Susan. She's in good hands, she wants to go, she loves performing. This tour might be just the thing to restore her confidence. I just want her to happy and know how loved she is.

Speaking of love, I hope you have all watched Tommy's video with pictures of our Susan and the song, "You Raise Me Up". Absolutely magnificent!!

Posted by YourAwesome on June 08, 2009
@terijay...I heard through the news..and you know that is not always the best source...but non-the-less I heard she could stop the tour any-time she wanted to. If that is true then all should be ok for Susan.

When she starts her CD...that should be a little easier for her, taking breaks when she needs etc. ALSO...she will most likely be in London when she is doing her CD so she will have either a great hotel with security or another flat?? WISHING for the best.
Posted by DJG-Scotland on June 08, 2009
It has been reported that a film of her life is likely to be made. I was thinking about what format that may take, and who may play her. I read Catherine Zeta-Jones wants to play her, but that's the silliest thing I've heard in ages! The problem is, if Hollywood make this film they'll just throw money at it and want a superstar to play her, regardless of whether they're right for the part or not. It would be better made as a low budget independent film using unknown but good actors to play the parts. Somebody like Danny Boyle would be good to direct.

As for format, I would see it either as a straight chronological film with some jumps from one period of her life to another. It could then start at her birth, given the amount of coverage her 'lack of oxygen' has had. Maybe jump to her at school, then her 20's singig in the pub, and eventually ending up with the infamous audition. Then we'd get everything after that, which is likely to take up most of the film. The other way of doing it would be to start with her at the audition, then flashbacks to the earlier parts of her life and how she came to be at the audition. Then back to the audition and everything after. What I don't really want is some A-list actress in the part hamming up her 'breakdown' scene doing a 'please give me an Oscar' routine! It needs to be realistic.

I betcha that London flat is being provided to her by the one with the big bucks - Simon. I absolutely love seeing Susan having access to all the posh things like fancy apartments, limos, fine new clothes, etc. That is so heartwarming and just tickles me to death. She is living with all the fine things she never had and so richly deserves. Go darling - you've earned it!

Genie, did I blast Youtube? You bet I did - that was last week. I heard on the news or on the net that they have denied it. BGT oughta sue 'em! Well, somebody ought to. I nailed 'em this morning for not having anything current about Susan on there. They're about useless anymore and I don't want anything to do with them.

Did ya'll see where Piers said her CD should be out by the end of the month? Hot dog!!! I'll be sitting in my porch swing blasting it to the whole neighborhood.

@Lonnirose - well as far as I'm concerned, they owe her £100,000 because that's what they robbed her of.
Posted by Kalua on June 08, 2009
Well I think that Susan should play the adult part in it. She has shown us once and again that she is a magnificent actress, go again to the final videoclip and see her body language and her hands, the way she goes with her head at the begining ( See Cowell's smile inmediately after)

I'm sure our Susan can do it!!!!

Oh, I meant to tell you this: I live in a really small town (pop. 1500, including cats, dogs and graveyard) and the folks here love Susan - they all know who she is and have watched her performances. DJG, I said the very same thing yesterday! I don't care who plays Susan as a child and young adult, but Susan should play herself as a grownup. I think she'd be a magnificent actress and the movie would be a smash. Her life story is an interesting one, and if she plays herself they can have her sing in the last portion. Love it!

Hi Ivorymist: I like the idea of the time...that would really help out...do you think we can remember to do it? I will try and see if it catches on.
Posted by maigret on June 08, 2009
Jazzineva I agree with you about the photo in the new header. There are so many others that are more flattering, and I hate the reminder of the final where they changed her style and her look. It is painful for me to watch that incl. the overwhelmingly loud orchestra at the end. I keep going back to the audition version - that's Susan w/voice coach O'Neil.

Terrijay I'm hoping she will get special security but worry that will alienate the rest of the group who will be under their own tensions by the end of the tour. Look for bad press and nasty storiees from inside by the time it's over, unless they keep the press far away.

I don't think brother Gerry is helpful. He tAlks too much and seems to be full of misinformation and his own importance. I think he is the one who panicked early on and wanted her to quit and make a single CD, said she was breaking down when all she probably did was complain as might be expected. He also makes unflattering comments - stuff that should stay in the family. I notice she has more hair than he does. I wonder if that's an irritant. He can go along if they assign a minder to him.

@Lonnirose - it is often said that the hardest part to play is yourself. But the singing part is an interesting point - whoever plays her needs to be able to sing too. Locations would be another point. We all know what her house looks like inside and out, so I reckon they'd have to shoot the external shots at her house. They also need a cat to play Pebbles! I just can't help feeling that if Hollywood make this film it will end up being an inaccurate cheesy shambles of a film.

From today's Daily Beast cheat sheet:

"Susan Boyle's life isn't all nervous breakdowns and time with Pebbles. The Britain's Got Talent runner-up has hired U2's famed financial guru Ossie Kilkenny to be her manager. Kilkenny helped U2 to become one of the industry's biggest moneymakers. Boyle will release an album through Simon Cowell's label Syco, but wanted to augment her management team."

About Gerry: I've also been a little wary of how readily he seems to have taken to the spotlight. He surely has Susan's interests at heart -- but he has his own, too.
Posted by Godscre on June 08, 2009
I like the banner (but not my fav). I agree with Jazineva, the picture(s) could be better of Susan. Maybe you'll rotate them as mentioned. But, kudos for a job well done.
Posted by ArielAZ on June 08, 2009
I voted for #2, but I think the main picture behind the script is unflattering. Susan really has a pretty face (and wonderful profile). Can't we fix this. Otherwise, it looks great.
Posted by BethInTheUSA on June 08, 2009
Kalua: they start recording this week. However, my niece recorded an album in an afternoon. Susan doesn't have to be there for editing. There is a lot they can do digitally.

Would appreciate that new blog for SusanWords. It really is a pain to scroll past the whole dictionary every day in the comments section.

Many thanks in advance.

Oh -- almost forgot: On Saturday I posted a well-wishing card to Susan. When I gave the card to the postal clerk to weigh, she glanced at it and said, "Oh! The singer! How's she doing?" ... So if anyone had any doubts about how famous she's become, let's put those to rest!

And in SusaThings: Is there any definitive true account of whether Simon or Ossie is representing Susan?

Thanks for the hard work on the Susanary, Allikat.

I would like to see Susan put out a DVD (video) .. her voice is absolutely awesome, but Susan's face and expression adds so much more for me .. I'd love to sit at my computer and WATCH her sing .. she is so special.
Posted by TommyUSA on June 08, 2009
Yes, IvoryMist....I put it in the letter, along with my mailing address.. But I sent it to her home, and from what I have been hearing, she isn't at her home. So I just hope somehow, someone gets it to her.
Posted by ponylady on June 08, 2009
Hoping that this fan site will continue to major on the positive. The last thing Susan needs is devoted fans who like to bash the media, the family, the management team. Hope all can give her credit for the good judgment I believe she has always had, to relish the best and "no comment" the rest. We have great things to look forward to from our favorite performer.
Posted by terijay on June 08, 2009
I thought it was her brother John who made the unflattering remarks about her- maybe Gerry did too....And i agree also that others on the tour ( not the acts so much, but their Friends/Parents, etc) would complain about special treatment as well. Like that one woman who told the press Susan was talking to herself... If they do an "Elvis has left the building" thing for her, it might work. I saw the Beatles in L.A. four times at the height of their fame- it was NUTS. They were 21-23 year old kids- they could deal with it. I think Susan is big like them, as they also brought hope and light back in the world after the assassination of JFK...She will love the singing part of the tour, no doubt- HOWEVER, they are already calling this "Susan's comeback"- comeback??? That already bodes ill. She will be scrutinized like mad. If she makes an strange remark, or misses one note, it will be on the front pages. Handlers must keep her away from the papers. Reading them, even.

All of the banners are wonderful. So much love and care in designing them. I love the final choice. Congrats.

New header is great! What about our sending Susan a laptop? With so many members, we could easily do it. Then she could read the good comments on her fansite; and when she is on tour, she could keep in touch with her friends, her family could send her pictures of Pebbles, and she could listen to music with it. Certainly there would always be someone around who would help Susan Boyle with maintenance when it needs it.

To Been Touched by an Angel -- Piers Morgan's long article is now on his website www.officialpiersmorgan.com. Click on News, I think.
Posted by terijay on June 08, 2009
As a former actress myself, my opinion after watching Susan countless times, from age 25 to now on videos/tv, she is more than capable of playing herself in a film. Fantasia did it - ( she was one of the American Idol winners) Susan could memorize lines just fine, and even adlib some (LOL) She has no problem memorizing lyrics to songs. I never once saw her flub a lyric to a song.
Posted by Socksycat on June 08, 2009
I agree with ArielAZ .. If it would not be too difficult, it would be nice to be able to select a page of posts rather than having to scroll through all of them to get to the bottom. I am concerned that it will be confusing to some to see the page numbers that are listed but do not function. It may turn some away (not from Susan) but from reading posts and posting. Thank you for your consideration!
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Doesn't take long at all to record a CD. If you think about it, a song is only about 2 minutes long. A recording studio is all private and there's a lot of equipment to make sure the balance is good, etc. She gets to listen to it and decide whether she's satisfied or wants a do-over. (Artists are their own worst critics.) I think she'll love doing that - it's the least stressful thing - and remember, she's already done one so it won't be all new to her. I hope for a DVD someday - she blows me away watching her sing. Have to keep a good supply of Kleenex, though.

DJG, I wouldn't be surprised if Simon isn't investigating that debaucle on Youtube. He has a lot of clout and a lot of money, and is plenty smart to boot. I imagine if there's any way to prove their screw-up he's already found it and has the lawsuit in the works.

Someone mentioned getting her a laptop which was mentioned weeks? before. She could probably afford one now and anyway someone has probably donated one to her by now. :)

I have to say a word about the sibling thing; my husband's sister has to report, to every new stranger she meets, all of the most embarrassing things she knows about her brothers since they were little. Even at her oldest brother's wedding last year (he is a diplomat at the State Department in Washington DC), she insisted (I tried to stop her) on telling every old story about him to all of his friends in excruciatingly painful detail. I think he would have strangled her if he could. Having your siblings relate personal opinions and stories about you on international tv cannot be pleasant, no matter who you are. Anyone who says otherwise is being disingenuous.

At least the Today Show interview with Gerry was brief and pleasant. I hope the interviews will all be that way from now on!
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Godscre, I imagine that Susan now has anything she wants, including a laptop if that is one of her desires. Just love knowing that our girl is living in style! treesmary, I have often thought Susan should have a computer, but I think her family may not want her to learn and stay in communication with the world. She'd have to be given the computer from outside the family and someone would have to work with her to learn how to use it. At least for awhile.. And, if we sent her a computer what makes sure she would get it.

A big THANK YOU to all of you who have shared your talents, time and passion--

Artists and computer experts who created the beautiful banners!

Wordsmiths who created, added to the Susanary!

Researchers who find the wonderful links that give us more info about our beloved Susan!

Guardians who challenge the media to be respectful!

And of course, Tommy with his lovely video tributes to Susan.

I'd like to second the poster who asked us to focus on supporting Susan, not analyzing and worrying about her choices, her family, etc. Susan's passion, plus her determination and courage to pursue it, stand out as clearly as her sparkling personality and soul-stirring voice in all of her videos.

And YES to DVDs!!! How I love so SEE her SING (and talk, and pet her cat, and wave joyfully to her fans . . . )

Cheers and a lovely day to all!

P.S. If you've not already done so, put in your request on Amazon.com for her CD and DVD, and add a comment under "What artistts are you most excited about . . ."

I'd love to see a movie based on Susan's life. They need to discover some young, talented girls to play her as a girl and young woman. I'm sure there are some very talented Scottish girls that would fit the bill. But Susan should certainly play herself at the end.

I want 2 cds, one with songs from the big musicals, and another with jazzier stuff, like her version of Cry Me a River. It would be awesome to have 2 come out at the same time - we'd all pay extra for it!

He recounts his "Woodstock Moment" when he first discovered Susan's talent. Love it!

Well, Susan's career is set, as she has U2's manager as her own too. That's a nice feather in her cap, considering what it took to get to that point. I imagine her live performances will be very entertaining, especially after she finishes with the BGT Tour. A nice warm-up to big time touring around the world. Best wishes to you Susan.

Notes and Questions 11:45am EST 6/8/09 1) Susan News: It would be neat if we could post a news only (I am not sure how to name it) three times a day -- with the date and time. We just do it. Anyone who has news for those three times a day -- posts it.

2. Live Tour: Would anyone blessed enough to attend and hear Susan on the BGT Tour -- please report on the songs she sings, how she does, and how it goes with the audience. That would be so nice.

3. The YouTube Vote. I remember that they switched the order so that instead of singing last, as she was scheduled, she sang third to last (in the 6th positon. I heard some say her votes went to Julian. So, her name was still on 08 , but she sang at position 6 or 7. It was a shift of the "pea" and the "walnut." There wasn't time for them to change it all. I still believe she was robbed. But, I'd leave it to Simon. Now we go forward -- let the past be past. She has the last laugh -- and she paid for it.

4. Susan in the movie: I think Susan can easily look like she is in her 20's and 30's. She looked very young when she sang "Whistle Down the Wind" for Larry King. The photographers can do some magic, and she may lose some weight!

5. Don't forget to make suggestions for the songs we could send Susan if she wants to pick some CDs to record a CD called "Susan and Friends" (or translate it into Susanease (?) -- the idea: we send a list of songs -- maybe 40 and she picks what she likes! Simple.

6. Tag your post on entry and when you are finished. We can deal with this problem until Paul and his techno wizards do something better.

and....CONGRATULATIONS ON THE BANNER --- LIKE IT. I agree it is not the best pictures of Susan, but the creator can help shift that! THANKS FOR A JOB WELL DONE!! 12:05 AM EST

I do wish she would just do one interview so we can hear her talk about the tour etc. We then would have our worries eased by hearing her voice. But I guess she doesn't want to do an interview because we all know they'd be asking her about her time in the Priory, and I suspect that would upset her somewhat.
Posted by DJG-Scotland on June 08, 2009
I would like to see a good part of the film focusing on the audition. She went alone, so she must have gone and returned by bus or train to Glasgow. That means there would have been 2 bus loads or train loads of people sat with her who had no idea where she was going or who they were sitting with! Given the near 3 month gap between her doing the audition and it being broadcast, it's unlikely anybody would have remembered her. But it would be nice if there were a short scene with her sat on the bus/train going to audition. Just adds a bit of reality to the story.

Lonnirose you are fantastic - you tell 'em all those who are lousy journalists!!!

Susadictionary is just magnificent - what a larf.

Suesolgy - songs of praise for our Susan.

TommyUSA: I am so sorry I can't watch all these amazing videos - South Africa is way behind with Internet and it's really expensive so every time I listen to a DVD or video I use up a huge quota of my bytes!!!

Jordie, check out The Today Show - great piece on Susan and another interview with Piers talking about her. Very very good! I like his term, "one-name household superstar", after a cab driver in Vegas asked him,"How's Susan?"

BJG - right on! You have a lot of insight as to how things ought to be.

Wasn't there some talk last week about contributing to a ticket for Tommy to go see Susan when she comes over here? I think that's a great idea, and here's another one: If we elect Tommy as president of the fansite, he might even get to actually meet Susan. Big stars often grant interviews to fan club presidents and even invite them backstage, etc. If anybody has earned that, it's Tommy. What do you think?

Congratulations on the new banner and to the others who submitted theirs. Maybe they can be rotated from time to time.

Because of our blogs being so long some postings are being repeated over and over because it is hard to keep up with all of them...

So, I am going to repeat.. Susan's brother John got it WRONG when he said Susan was invited to the White House for the 4th of July by Barack Obama and Michelle Obama has said it is NOT true.

John Boyle took a remark from the annual Washington Press Corp dinner which is a comedy routine where there are various speakers and Obama did his comedy routine. He did say he likes Susan and would like to meet her but it was NOT a official invitation. Obama will wait to see if the Queen invites Susan to sing for her before Obama officially invites Susan because he does not want to upstage the Queen.

The event is an annual one which I watch every year. When Obama invites Susan to the White House she will receive an official letter on White House stationary with the President of the United States of America on it. I received one for the inaugration but couldn't attend. But this is the way it works and JOHN BOYLE took the Obama statement out of context and thought it was official when it was not.
Posted by DannyMac on June 08, 2009
I didn't realize there would be 27 stops on the BGT Tour. That is horrific. The worry is not that Susan wouldn't be up to singing so much, though it seems that's a lot to ask of even the greatest voice. And we know she loves that communion with the audience. But that is a killer schedule, guaranteed to physically exhaust anyone. How much rest time is there between the concerts? No, no, no, it would be much better for Susan to be scheduled to sing at just some of these. Susan, think about this, no one wants you physically rundown and your immune system weakened so you catch flu or who knows what.
Posted by tweek on June 08, 2009
Thanks to whoever posted the link to the NBC interview with Piers and Susan's brother. They showed pictures of her arriving back in Scotland, explaining henceforth they will have a female doctor traveling with her. The only thing I'm wondering...if they are going to allow her to speak in an interview ever again; it seems right now they do not want her to utter a word to the camera. Hopefully, they will set her free again.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
President of the Fansite, Mayor of Susan's Global Village! Has a nice ring to it. President AND Mayor - she'll have to see him when he's that important! Wonder if she's received his videos yet? Actually, just knowing that he's the one who produced those might grant him an audience with her. We better have him take along some smelling salts - he's bound to pass out when he gets to talk with her.

The BGT runner-up should join the show’s UK tour which kicks-off in Birmingham this Friday, and it is thought she will also perform at this year’s Royal Scottish Variety Performance in aid of Edinburgh’s Royal Blind School in October.

You have to consider, in making the cd, that there is more involved than just going down and singing. The songs must be selected, which may, of course, have already been done. Hopefully all ones Susan wants. But then, you do need to rehearse not only practicing by yourself, but you have to rehearse at least some with whoever is recording with you, in Susan's case, apparently Czech Orchestra. And then the recording and re-takes as necessary. And Susan will want it right, and rightfully so in both rehearsing and recording. Seems to me it will take some time. How will Susan fit that in with all the BGT concerts.

Does anyone have a clue as to whether any of Susan's songs on this BGT Tour will be videotaped? I know we are all dying to see her again.

After my period of abstinence, I just watched the audition again. Same effect. Also, the Semifinal. Gets better each time. And listed to Cry Me a River, and that always melts me to a pool of warm goo.

@BJB and @AmazinglyCritical: If you keep checking out Youtube Live Tour once the live shows have started, fans often list their videos so you will be able to watch and listen to Susan sing. Some videos are better than others because they are taken a distance away from the stage.

Hi Treesmary,

Thank you for the url for Piers' long article in the daily mail. That's what I was looking for!

And yes, it is on Piers website -- you do have to click on News.

12:45 PM EST Dear Lonnirose. I wouldn't do anyting yet -- especially spend money. Susan and Company is undergoing "organizationa change". I saw a notice that Simon made some comments about the Fan Clubs and what he thinks about them. Someone probably knows the people who are Susan's relatives, and a little chat with them might be just the thing to do to figure out what is happening, and might happen. (google susan boyle management organization team.) Whatever, clarification before action is usually a good plan. Get the facts and find the right people to talk to. Then act. I hope that is helpful. Paul may be the best bet now. I don't know how the email works -- if you know how to do that without posting your email, let me know. Cheers! 1:09 PM EST

I like the new banner very much - nice colour. Agree that the middle photo isn't terribly flattering but it's not as prominent as the others. As to the strain on Susan when she goes on tour, we know she loves singing and she'll likely do the same piece each night, won't she? It should be fun for her. I'm sure someone will be along to look after her.

Yes, indeed-dy - a new day has begun with our new banner! Kudos to everyone who participated - again, there's no shortage of talent on this fansite.

@ Lonnierose - Re: The Sun article - such interesting choice of wording - "Boss Simon Cowell has 'secured her a slot'." Really? - How bout, "Fearing empty seats, Boss Simon Cowell got down on his hands and knees and begged Ms. Boyle to join the tour." And, he's even willing to let her set her own BGT touring schedule - whatta a nice guy! Can't repeat it enough - he owes Susan major "big-time". (Please don't jump on me Simon fans!)

Love the new banner - excellent job!

I was thinking about how some people on youtube were commenting that Susan sings "opera" and it wouldn't be popular with the public (they obviously didn't listen to "Cry Me A River"), but these same people should have been aware of Nightwish, the Finnish metal band, whose first female lead singer, Tarja Turunen, was trained in classical opera and sang symphonic-metal songs in full-out operatic style. Their album "Once" sold over 1 million copies, and altogether (CDs, DVDs, and online material) has sold over 5 million. So much for the operatic style not being popular.

In any case, whatever Susan does, it's bound to be wildly successful, whether she chooses opera, pop, blues, you name it.

I meant that Nightwish has sold over 5 million counting all formats.
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
It has beeen reported there are 5 that are trying to buy the rights to Susan's life to make a movie. One is Simon and another one is Catherine Zeta-Jones who wants to play Susan's part in the movie. I don't know who the other three are.

Good Afternoon,

Terrific banner-a *great* improvement!

Was just reading the London Times at lunch-I was hoping they'd have some unbiased, kind news about Susan. They're just as bad as the rest of the rags. Here's the comment I fired off to India Knight, the 'journalist' (and I use that term very loosely):

"I would think that The Times wouldn't be in the same league as The Sun but apparently, you are.

To repeat words such as 'homely' and 'hairy angel' puts you right down there with the rags. India, you're a jackass.

America will welcome Susan with open arms and sold out shows. As it should be."

As Navyvet always says, we shouldn't be focusing on the negative, but I felt I needed to punch India squarely in the chops for her cruel depiction of Susan.

I feel better now. It's a good thing that Ms. India Knight wasn't standing in front of me.

I love the new banner - it is what I voted for. Nice colouring and Susan looks lovely. Did they allow her to keep the dress I wonder, or did it go back to wardrobe?

I'm not surprised with anything The Sun prints. It is a rag of a paper anyway and they just wanted an explosive title like that to jump out at readers.

I doubt if they had any NEW readers because of it, just the usual loyal readers who buy it anyway. It hardly qualifies to be called a newspaper!

Rhydian did the same mistake as Susan when he was on X-Factor. He announced he was a virgin and this doesn't go down very well as the tabloids like to comment on that. Best not to talk about such things, it is a taboo issue, at least when you are famous it is.

Susan Boyle: A Lesson in Talent Management 4:57 PM Wednesday April 22, 2009

Tags:Managing people, Motivation, Talent management

Susan Boyle, who recently performed on the UK television show Britain's Got Talent, has captured the world's attention. And it's a good lesson for managers the world over.

In case you've missed it: she's a 47-year-old unemployed charity worker who lives with her cat in a small village in Scotland. As soon as she walked on stage the audience began to snicker and roll their eyes. Simon Cowell, the show's host, asked her some pre-performance questions in his famously condescending style and, to the audience's enjoyment, she answered awkwardly.

She was painfully ordinary and everyone was prepared, looking forward even, to see her fail.

By now, if you don't know the story, you could guess it, right? She more than wowed them. She opened her mouth to sing and, as one of the three judges Pierce Morgan later said, she had "the voice of an angel."

She wasn't painfully ordinary; she was extraordinary. The audience immediately jumped to their feet in a standing ovation and stayed there for the entire song. The YouTube video of Susan's performance has, so far, received nearly 100 million views.

We are riveted — and a recent article in USA Today does a good job of cataloguing all the reasons. We prejudged her by her looks and were fooled. We experienced the full gamut of emotions in a few short moments: guilt, shame, vindication, hope. She's a modern Cinderella and these days it's a wonderful distraction and inspiration to witness the triumph of the human spirit.

But there's something else Susan Boyle awakens in us as we watch her come out of her shell. Our own selves. Who among us doesn't move through life with the hidden sense, maybe even quiet desperation, that we are destined for more? That underneath our ordinary exterior lies an extraordinary talent? That given the right opportunity, the right stage, the right audience, we could shine as the stars we truly are?

We all have that sense to one degree or another. And it's a great opportunity for managers. How we handle that opportunity is what distinguishes the great managers from the merely good ones.

Good managers help their employees succeed in whatever role they happen to be in. Great managers see the unique talents of each employee, and then create the role that's a perfect vehicle for those talents. Great managers remove the obstacles that prevent their employees from unleashing their talent. And they make sure each employee has the right opportunities, the right stage, the right audience, to be fully appreciated.

While Susan Boyle became an overnight sensation, hers was not an overnight transformation. She's been practicing singing since she was 12. In her case, overnight lasted 35 years.

And she didn't do it alone. Susan Boyle had a voice coach, Fred O'Neil, who worked with her for years. And she had her mother. "She was the one who said I should enter Britain's Got Talent. We used to watch it together," she told the UK paper The Times, speaking about her mother who died in 2007, "She thought I would win . . . I am doing it as a tribute to my mum and I think she would be very proud."

In a study by two graduates of the University of Pennsylvania's Applied Positive Psychology Program, managers who provided frequent recognition and encouragement were rewarded with an increase in productivity of 31%. As a manager, your greatest tool is recognizing each employee's talents and encouraging that employee to use those talents.

"There is grace," a friend recently wrote to me, "in being molded by your own gifts."

To allow yourself to be molded by your gifts takes courage. By recognizing and encouraging the particular gifts of their employees, great managers increase the chance that those employees will be willing to stand there, exposed and authentic, while their audience rolls their eyes and sneers, expecting failure.

And then, when their talented employees fail (which they inevitably will at some point), after they laugh or cry at their failure, great managers hold them up, keep them focused, help them refine their talent and keep going, until one day the audience stops laughing and starts clapping.

With her mother gone, Susan still has O'Neil. And recently he told The Telegraph he was worried about all the attention on Susan. "I am concerned about her being surrounded by all these PR people," he said, "that she will not be given the time to sing." That's the voice of a great manager.

Susan Boyle is a phenomenal person to keep in mind as you manage your employees. In all her awkward ordinariness and amazing extraordinariness. She is talent discovered. Can you uncover the Susan in each one of your employees? Can you draw her out? Can you support her fully? Put her on the right stage? In front of the right audience? Can you keep her focused on her talent?

If so, then be prepared to be wowed.

Howdy Pards,

As we celebrate our wonderful new banner highlighting our Susan as the star that she is...I want to thank, once again, TommyUSA for posting a truly great piece of evidence. Under the heading of VIDEOS on our site you will find one titled ELAINE PAIGE VS SUSAN BOYLE. Now, as others have said I prefer to think of it as ELAINE PAIGE AND SUSAN BOYLE, but what a wonderful video it is.

I commented over there on how I felt about that video...but, let me share those comments here too...

Two wonderful performers. It was a joy hearing Elaine's comments about Susan's incredible talent...and, of course, we all know how Susan feels about Elaine Paige.

As I watched this video I dreamed a little...I imagined a day when these two ladies performed a duet together live, on stage at the Oscars or the Tony Awards show. What a spectacular moment in time that would be!

It is clear from this video, I believe, that Susan has achieved her dream of being a professional singer. She is a star and a professional in every sense of the term. There simply is no doubt whatsoever about that.

I also thought what an absolute shame it would be if Susan simply gave up at this point and went home to Scotland. She has a God given talent that should never again be hid under a bushell...no...no...it must be shared, it must be allowed to shine for all the world to enjoy!

When I think that the rude, ignorant, lowlife tabloid media could have hurt Susan in any way, could have denied the world her wonderful talent, I'll be honest with ya, it makes me powerfully angry. And, I suspect you folks feel the exact same way.

Susan Boyle belongs on stage...singing...bringing joy and happiness to millions. This video clearly shows that Susan's dreams deserve to come true...and let us all pray that they do.

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

DannyMac- that is what I have been saying. 27 stops is TOO MUCH. The other folks will be exhausted as well. I think I will post on Pier's website my concerns about this- You need to be robust physically to deal with something like that- Like me, Susan probably doesn't exercise much ( except her voice) LOL. I hope she does selected dates- with two days off in between....They are worried people will demand their money back if she doesn't show- I know she DOES want to do it, but again, has not a CLUE as to how grueling that schedule in reality would be!

On Susan, I think her organization will be put in place as soon as Simon and Ossie agrees to their contracts for Susan. Until something becomes OFFICIAL from those sources I will be waiting to see what is true and what isn't. Susan's brothers have been known to speak of things that are untrue so I think it is... WAIT AND SEE.... for right now.

To our UK pals....are there child labor laws in the UK? There are lots of kids on BGT tour. I am very surprised local law allows them to perform in what, 27, appearances on tour?? I am not sure that could ever happen in the US.

Sunny California here.

Susan Boyle is a feisty, funny lady with a huge talent. Now she wants to make her album... and pursue her dream

The first time I ever saw Susan Boyle was on a cold, drab evening in Glasgow.

I remember it well because I’d been forced to endure a particularly long, tedious day of Britain’s Got Talent auditions at the SECC Theatre.

We’d had the usual Scottish plethora of dreadful bagpipers (I know there are some very good ones, we just never seem to see any when we go up there), appalling kilt-wearing wailers and shockingly bad Highland dancers.

Magnificent: Susan Boyle performed a triumphant new version of I Dreamed a Dream at the final but it was not quite enough to win the public vote for the top prize ‘God, this is horrific,’ moaned Simon Cowell during a break. ‘Something will turn up,’ replied Amanda Holden, ‘it always does.’ An hour later, a little middle-aged lady strode purposefully on stage and introduced herself as ‘Susan Boyle from Blackburn in West Lothian.’ When Simon asked her age, she smiled, said ‘I’m 47,’ and then did one of her now famous wiggles, chuckling: ‘And that’s just one side of me!’ Simon and I rolled our eyes at each other dismissively, and he sighed: ‘OK, so what’s the dream?’ Stunned: The judges agreed that Susan's first performance on the show was 'the biggest surprise ever' ‘My dream is to be a professional singer,’ she replied, firmly. Cue much hilarity in the theatre. ‘And why hasn’t it worked out before?’ probed Cowell. ‘I just haven’t been given the chance before, so here’s hoping it will change.’ More eye-rolling. ‘And who would you like to be as successful as?’ ‘Elaine Paige.’ Again, loud guffaws around the theatre, but again, no hesitation.

Susan, that day, was brimming with self-confidence and absolute certainty as to why she was there, and what the gameplan was. ‘What are you going to sing?’ ‘I Dreamed A Dream from Les Miserables.’ I burst out laughing. ‘OK, that’s a big song.’ Which could be safely translated as: ‘This is going to be way too big a song for you, my little dearie.’

The rest, of course, is now the stuff of legend.

Susan burst into a stunning rendition of the famous West End anthem, and made us judges and the sceptical audience distinctly uncomfortable in the process. On the mend: Susan plays up to the cameras while out clothes shopping with her doctor in Radlett, Hertfordshire We’d committed the oldest sin in the talent- show book - judging a book by its cover. At the end of the performance, with the crowd roaring their approval, Susan did a small theatrical bow and blew us all a kiss.

Then, when Simon, Amanda and I all said ‘Yes’, she danced around the stage, punching her arms in the air, absolutely jubilant about what had happened. I watched that audition clip back on YouTube this week, and felt the very same goosebumps I had that day in Glasgow.

It was, truthfully, one of the most surprising things I’ve ever witnessed – for all the sexist, ageist, fashionist reasons that everyone else was surprised, too. It was also one of the most inspiring.

In that short 90-second performance, Susan Boyle offered up a wonderful one-woman antidote to all the cynicism that had engulfed the world during this devastating recession. She wasn’t a greedy banker, or a corrupt politician.

She wasn’t in this for fame or fortune, either.

Susan has no interest in being another D-list celebrity, or racking up piles of cash. She’s 47, and has spent her entire life dreaming of one thing – being a professional singer.

A real one, like Elaine Paige. This single fact leaped out at me while watching the playback more than anything else. Because, for the past seven days, there has been a veritable torrent of criticism of Britain’s Got Talent, and the show’s supposed ‘cruel manipulation’ of this allegedly poor, defenceless, vulnerable woman, and of younger contestants, too.

I won’t even get into the argument about whether kids should be on the show or not, because I find it so inherently silly.

Suffice to say that the vast majority of children on Britain’s Got Talent exude a self-evident stage confidence and natural ability that shames their adult competitors, and to further point out that kids have been known to occasionally cry when they lose at tiddly-winks, let alone a major talent contest. The headline-writers and columnists were quick to condemn: She should never have been allowed to audition! It was obvious she’s mentally ill! Nobody with learning difficulties should ever go on a TV show! And so on. To which I say: What a load of absolute poppycock! The Susan Boyle who auditioned that day in Glasgow was a feisty, funny, joyful woman who was quite clearly loving every second of being on the show. After a lifetime devoted to helping care for her mum until she died, and working tirelessly for her local church, Susan was finally doing something for herself, and was thrilled to get such a positive reaction.

And that’s exactly how she stayed for the first six weeks after her audition was screened on ITV in April. Now, I’ll be honest here: none of us had any idea how famous Susan was going to be.

We thought her audition was terrific, don’t get me wrong.

But we didn’t even think she was going to be the stand-out act of that first edited audition show. We were all convinced that the street dance act Flawless would dominate the Press coverage, and be favourites to win the competition.

Great expectations: The 'gobsmacking' first performance by Susan which kick-started her meteoric rise to global phenomenon I even wrote their name on a piece of paper as my prediction for who I thought would win when we chose the Top 40 – as did Simon. But when I watched that first audition show go out live on ITV, and began getting an immediate big reaction from friends and family, I texted Simon in Los Angeles and said: ‘I’d forgotten how brilliant Susan Boyle was.’

Within 24 hours, her clip started to shoot virally around the world. I began getting emails and texts from America, Australia, Italy and Russia – all of them from people I knew, saying they had been reduced to tears watching it.

After three days, Susan had become a global internet sensation.

And she dealt with it with consummate ease. I watched her appearing on huge American TV programmes such as Larry King Live and the Oprah Winfrey Show, and she was just the same Susan I remember from Glasgow. She laughed, she sang, she pulled faces, she danced a bit, she had fun.

She didn’t take herself too seriously. And she never once showed any sign of discomfort at all the attention. For week after week, the Susan Boyle phenomenon grew bigger and bigger.

It was one of the most extraordinary things I’ve ever seen.

To watch someone go from complete anonymity to international superstardom so fast was just astonishing. But slightly scary, too. I remember Simon saying after three weeks or so: ‘This is all getting out of control, we need to calm it down.’ Concerned: Even Simon Cowell, who is known for his tough image and brutal putdowns of contestants, was worried about the impact on Susan He was concerned then about Susan’s bubble bursting as fast it blew up, that people might get bored with her before the live finals.

And he was also concerned about the effect of all the attention on Susan herself. On his advice, Susan curtailed the number of interviews she was doing, and focused on rehearsing for her next performance on the show. But the mania continued unabated, and her legend grew by the day: 100million hits on Youtube, 150million, 200million.

Demi Moore even started backing her on Twitter.

It was insane.

Susan Boyle was downloaded more times in a month than Barack Obama, Britney Spears and David Beckham put together.

She’s had, to date, more internet hits than Mandela, Churchill, JFK and Hitler combined. One afternoon, Amanda joined Ant and Dec in my London flat to do a series of interviews for American television.

We were all united in our shock at the Susan phenomenon. ‘I can’t believe this,’ said Amanda. ‘It’s ridiculous,’ agreed Ant. ‘Unbelievable,’ whistled Dec. I laughed. ‘Just think, you three have been trying to crack America for 30 years between you, and she’s done it in four weeks.’ The next time I saw Susan was on the day of her semi-final two weeks ago.

I came out of my dressing room at the Fountain Studios in Wembley to find her sitting outside, waiting to do her dress rehearsal. Susan grinned broadly when she saw me. ‘How you feeling?’ I asked. ‘OK, OK,’ she said. ‘Nervous?’ ‘Yes!’ She was shaking a bit, but then so were all the contestants. For amateurs to perform live on a show getting up to 20million viewers is nerve-racking. The difference with Susan was that until then she had exuded remarkable confidence.

Now, suddenly, I could tell that the pressure was finally beginning to get to her.

She had been the red-hot favourite to win for seven weeks now, which is a lifetime in reality television.

And I think it had slowly dawned on her that virtually the whole world was going to be watching her sing that night, and there was little chance of her ever being able to live up to the magic of that initial audition tape, however well she sang. Live shows can be brutal, unforgiving things.

Nerves: Susan displayed the initial signs of stage fright at the semi-final but but persevered after missing the first note They’re also the greatest test of potential future stars.

I’ve seen many talented auditionees shine and fall at this stage of the contest.

It’s what makes it so dramatic, exciting, unpredictable and emotional. When Susan walked out on stage, she looked like a frightened rabbit, and my heart went out to her.

I, too, felt incredibly tense, knowing the size of the likely global audience watching our every move that night, and I was just a judge.

God only knows how Susan, the most famous woman on the planet, was feeling. Then she began to sing, and missed her very first note. I froze.

Oh God, were we about to see her self-implode on stage?

No, we were not. Susan simply grabbed her diaphragm, took a deep breath and burst into the next few notes with incredible power. It was a defining moment for me.

The moment when I realised that Susan could hack live performing.

Her rendition of Memory, ironically, was perhaps not quite as memorable as I Dreamed A Dream, but it was good enough to prove that she was not a one-hit wonder, a flash-in-the-pan.

Cracking up: Susan manages a final wiggle despite losing to Diversity When she heard she’d won the public vote, she danced wildly again on stage, pure delight radiating from her face. ‘This is for you, Piersy baby!’ she shrieked, amusingly, offering me a very special wiggle. (She’d admitted a few times by now that she had a bit of a crush on me.) A few minutes later, I was walking back to my dressing room when she spied me, ran down the steps, jumped into my arms and planted a big smacker on my lips.

‘I’ve been kissed now, haven’t I, Piersy baby!’ she laughed. ‘You certainly have,’ I laughed. ‘You were brilliant out there.’ ‘Thank you. I enjoyed it.’ And I could see she had. She was ecstatic.

But that was the last time I saw her that way. From the following day, some of the media and public attitude towards Susan turned negative.

She was scorned for her ‘eccentric’ behaviour on stage, her apparent ‘lack of humility’ and the fact she missed a few notes in her performance. There were reports of her having blazing rows with ‘strangers’ (who turned out to be journalists) in hotel bars, and of shouting at the TV screen when she saw me praising Shaheen Jafargholi on the second semi-final (she furiously denied this to me). The headlines over the next few days were strident: ‘BOYLING POINT’, ‘SUSAN’S CRACKING UP!’ And they had a huge impact on her.

Until this point, Susan had basked entirely in the positive glow of fame. Now, suddenly, the mood had changed, and she didn’t know how to deal with it. I’m not going to be a rank hypocrite and lambast the media for this mini-backlash.

I was a tabloid editor for 11 years and would have almost certainly pursued the Susan Boyle story with just the same enthusiasm and aggression as my former colleagues were doing now. I understand, and broadly agree with, the argument that she had voluntarily entered the competition, had courted the world’s media, and therefore had no right to complain. All that is true. But she was still entitled to feel upset and angry about it.

She’d already had to put up with being dubbed ‘Hairy Angel’ and ‘SuBo’ as if she was some Japanese wrestler, mocked relentlessly for her looks and fashion sense and ridiculed for never being kissed. Now she was being written off as a not-very-good singer, too, by some of the very same people who had until very recently lauded her to the hilltops.

Celebrities joined in the Boyle-baiting.

Lily Allen sneered that she was ‘overrated’, and Craig Revel Horwood (the least known judge on Strictly Come Dancing) said he wanted to ‘smash the TV screen’ when he watched her in the semi-final. And with every gratuitous insult, so Susan’s self-confidence diminished. By Wednesday, she was in a bit of state.

So much so that I made a public plea for everyone to ‘back off’ after she threatened to leave the show altogether. I spoke to her at length on the phone, and she said she’d been horrified by the turning of the tide in the Press coverage. ‘Why are they doing this to me? You used to be an editor, tell me?’ ‘Because you’re the hottest story in the world,’ I said. ‘And I’m afraid this goes with the territory.’ She sounded close to tears. ‘I was sick last night, and I can’t sleep,’ she said.

‘I wish they’d just leave me alone.’ ‘That’s not going to happen, Susan, and it shouldn’t happen.

'You entered this show to be a professional singer, and everyone who does that has to accept that the media will be interested in their story if they do well.

'There’s only one way to shut them all up, and that’s to absolutely nail it in the final.

'Kill them with your talent.’ There was a pause. ‘I’d better show them all then!’ ‘That’s the spirit, Susan.

'My advice is don’t read the papers, don’t watch TV, just stay calm, keep away from all the mayhem if you can, and concentrate on getting that final performance right.’ ‘I’ll try, but it’s not easy. It’s everywhere, I can’t get away from it.’ ‘It is, but there are only a few days left.

'Just focus on your final performance, because in the end that is all that matters now.’ She laughed. ‘I’ve been practising a lot.’ ‘Good!’ I said. At this stage, let me explain what goes on behind the scenes on Britain’s Got Talent.

The contestants are not just left to their own devices.

There is a huge support staff of people to advise them, and they are incredibly experienced in this kind of show.

The team on BGT also do X Factor, so they have had years of dealing with the highs and lows of being a contestant.

From my first-hand experience, this team are remarkably kind, patient and sympathetic. They all know how nerve-racking it is, how difficult to suddenly find yourself thrust into the public eye, however much you want to be thrusted in the first place.

Simon, despite his tough-guy reputation, wants the show to be essentially uplifting and positive, not some kind of unforgiving Roman amphitheatre. ‘We want people to have a good time, both as contestants and as viewers,’ he told me.

‘Britain’s Got Talent works best when it’s a warm celebration of British talent and eccentricity, not when it resembles a bearpit.’ That doesn’t mean we can’t all have a good laugh at the daft, deluded acts, or mock the occasional complete idiots who grace our stage. But it does mean that everyone working on the show knows there are limits, and that they take those limits very seriously.

Background checks, for instance, are done on every act that appears. Everyone knew Susan was an exceptional case, the most talked-about contestant in the history of talent shows.

And she was repeatedly asked if she felt OK about continuing in the show. ‘Yes,’ she always replied. ‘I wouldn’t have entered otherwise.’ To try to make things easier for her, various close friends and family were flown down from Scotland to offer support and this definitely helped. On the day of the final, I had another conversation with Susan on the phone. ‘You OK?’ ‘Not really,’ she said. ‘I’ve not had a good night’s sleep all week, I haven’t been eating much, and I’m really stressed out.’ ‘You’ve got your chance to show everyone what you can do tonight.

'This is it, Susan. This is your moment to have the last laugh.’ She laughed. ‘I don’t feel much like laughing. There’s so much pressure, I don’t want to let anyone down.’ ‘You won’t. You have inspired millions of people around the world with your singing, and you mustn’t let a few silly headlines ruin it for you.

'You’ve enjoyed the show haven’t you?’ ‘Oh yes, of course. I’ve been living my dream.’ I believed her, but was still worried for her. ‘You going to be OK tonight?’ She didn’t hesitate. ‘Yes.’ Two hours later, I found her waiting in the corridor to rehearse.

She was sitting next to the grandfather from fellow BGT hopefuls, 2 Grand. Both seemed quite awed by the occasion, which was no surprise given the enormity of the ratings. ‘Look after each other,’ I said, and they smiled.

Then I gave Susan a quick hug. ‘Go out there and do what you do best tonight.’ ‘I will,’ she said. Later that night, Susan walked on to the stage and unleashed a magnificent new version of I Dreamed A Dream.

I was staggered by how confidently she sang.

After the extraordinary rollercoaster she’d been through, I genuinely feared it might all end in tears at the final hurdle, that she might crack under the maelstrom of attention and expectation. Face of disappointment: Susan appeared to take defeat to Diversity well on the night of the final but checked into the Priory the next day But she didn’t. She nailed it. To my shock and dismay, though, there were a few boos in the audience when I suggested in my critique that she should win the show. I realised then that she probably wouldn’t win, that the bubble had indeed burst right at the last minute, that the British public – as Simon had feared – had grown a little bored and irritated by Boyle mania. In fact, she nearly did win, missing out to the brilliant Diversity by just four per cent of the vote. (Incidentally, I’d hate all the ongoing obsession with Susan to detract from this wonderful dance group’s achievement. What fantastic role models they are, and what a statement their victory makes about a country supposedly drifting towards the BNP.) And Susan was fantastically generous and modest in defeat, while reserving the right to do one last wiggle on stage.

Absolutely Flawless: Piers expected the street dance group Flawless to win the show when he first saw their electrifying act The next day, I was asked to call Susan because she was ‘exhausted and upset’. We spoke for half an hour, and she admitted: ‘I’m so tired, I need to get away from all this for a while.’ ‘You were brilliant last night,’ I said. ‘I didn’t win, though. Will I still be able to have a career as a singer?’ ‘Of course you will,’ I replied, truthfully. ‘And remember that your dream was never to win this show, it was to sing professionally.’ ‘That’s true, it is. It’s all I have ever wanted to do.’ She was undeniably jittery and erratic in that conversation.

There were laughter and tears, excitement and sadness.

She had been through an unprecedented two months. ‘Are you glad you came on the show?’ I asked. ‘I am,’ she said. ‘Even the way I feel now, I am.’ Later that night she was admitted voluntarily to the Priory Clinic after seeing some doctors.

She was, they said, ‘completely exhausted’.

I felt sad for her, but relieved too.

The Priory is a favoured destination for stressed-out performers.

They know exactly what Susan had been through, and exactly how to treat it. Her admittance sparked a new media furore, most of which was laughably hypocritical. As I said before, I don’t blame the papers, TV and radio for pursuing the story, or even how they pursued it.

But I do find some of their shameless finger-pointing faintly ridiculous. I cannot think of a single thing more that anyone could have done for Susan.

Or a single rule change that could be made to protect future contestants from dealing with the unique problems of experiencing the unprecedented worldwide attention she has had. Susan wanted to be on this show, has no regrets about doing it, is well on the road to a full recovery already and came out of the Priory last week after just a few days.

Now she wishes to pursue her dream of making an album, a disc that I would guess might sell somewhere north of ten million copies given her astounding popularity in America, making her the biggest selling female artist of the next 12 months. I’ve no doubt she’ll get exhausted again in the future, and occasionally fed up with overly-critical journalists. And she will, I confidently predict, also grow to loathe all the travelling, sycophancy, paranoia, insecurity and sheer hard work that goes with being a big star these days. But when people say she should never have entered the show, and was ‘exploited’, I say that’s nonsense. Susan had a blast for 90 per cent of the time, and remains a feisty, funny, independent-minded lady with an incredible talent. She’s not some sort of cruelly exploited simpleton, as a few ill-informed critics seem to think. She’s a smart-witted person (watch some of her American interviews) with a great sense of humour, but also a bit of a short fuse when it comes to people abusing her. I guess when you’ve been bullied at school like she was, and had yobs chuck stones at your house, you grow less tolerant of that kind of behaviour.

Her brother, an intelligent, articulate, sensible man, summed it all up perfectly this week when he said she just needed a good rest, and added that he was mystified by all this over-exaggerated stuff about her ‘learning difficulties’. ‘She did as well academically as the rest of us,’ he said. ‘She just used to get very nervous before exams.’ The Susan Boyle story is not, as some would have it, a modern-day parable of reality TV disaster, the tale of an innocent victim whose life has been ruined by transient fame. It’s the story of how one woman from a Scottish village set the whole world alight with the sheer force of her personality and raw, undiscovered talent. OK, so she was a bit drained by the end of the whole shebang. Who wouldn’t be?

I’m so knackered, I feel like checking myself into the Priory as well. But without Britain’s Got Talent, Susan Boyle would have probably carried on living alone with her cat in a remote part of Scotland, never knowing if she had what it takes to be a star. Now she knows the answer. And so does the entire world. She does.

I think it would be good if we her fans remained charitable and gracious toward the people closest to Susan. In a certain way, we could all become a mob of mothers-in-law (sorry, no offense ladies, but you get the idea). How could anyone really survive thousands of well-intentioned in-laws noticing and correcting every little thing about the person or people we hold dear despite their faults? Praise the positive, pray about the negative.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Donnola, you got that part right! I imagine they're all praying that Susan goes along so they can sell those tickets, but the fact remains that Susan really does want to go - she loves singing for "a large audience". Better believe she'll be catered to and looked after like never before. Susan has created worldwide interest in that show and they will capitalize on that. Still, Simon will see that she's well-treated no matter the reason.

Tweek, where, where is there a picture of Susan arriving in Scotland? I haven't yet seen it and am dying to see a new picture.

BJ, I wasn't talking about anything immediate. I imagine we have plenty of time before Susan comes over here to get Tommy there. Just kinda having a little fun there, LO

@Catherine from San Diego: Thank you for that article from the Harvard Business Review - I actually teach management courses, so it was very applicable. As far as Susan goes, one line stood out to me, when Susan was talking about her mother urging her to enter BGT: "We used to watch it together...she thought I would win.." I wonder if part of her depression after not winning was the feeling not that she let her fans down, but most of all that she let her Mother down, since she didn't "win." I'm sure by now people have convinced her how proud her mother would be of what she has accomplished. So much more than winning a contest!

FocusOn Susan,

I have been emailing everyone when they give unkind comments on Susan sine the finals.

"I and others of a Susan Boyle fan club that I belong to have 22,000 members strong and are finding your comments on Susan Boyle absolutely disgusting. If you continue with this you can expect a boycott with you and your sponsors. We have had enough of the media persecution of Susan Boyle. This is only one of many Susan Boyle fan clubs.

Take this as a notice. The next time you humiliate Susan we will be contacting your sponsors. We have had enough of it. We will boycott you and your sponsors and not purchase anymore products that sponsors your show. You can take it to the bank that we will not put up with this any longer. You are not going to humilate this dear lady any longer.

PS.. I might add.. I took out the bad words for this blog. The meduia got the unedited verson. LOL !

I note the Glasgow stop of the tour is at the SECC. That's where it all started with the audition. Should be like going home for her!
Posted by Sueandpebbles on June 08, 2009
It is a gruelling schedule (BGT tour) but if you lot in America want her over to tour there then she will need this to break her in to the rigours of touring.

I have mulled it over and decided not to buy tickets to see the BGT tour as my only interest is Susan and I don't particularly want to sit thro the rest of the acts. Susan will probably have no more than 10 minutes of stage time - I'd rather see her in a show which is all about her. So I shall just wait patiently for that day to come and console myself with the CD when it comes out :-)
Posted by PIGGIE on June 08, 2009
@mdillow31: Might I gently suggest that from this point on you send the media the "edited" version? Just afraid it might not be taken seriously otherwise, they could see it as just wild ravings of some crazed fan, rather than a professional protest from a serious group of fans. And why stoop to their level?

Whew....my world stopped for 15 or 20 minutes while and read and digested Piers' comments. thanks for the post. I go regularly to his blog, but hadn't made it there yet today.

@mdillow31; Thanks, Marianne-good one! I wanted to say a *lot* more, but the London Times limits the length of your entries.

I did, however, get 'jackass' in :).

Catherine from SanDeigo: Thanks for that video. I've got it bookmarked; and plan to take it to our next staff meeting. Agreed to the comments on the extensive tour. I couldn't do it in any of my years...just the travel is tiring. But, Susan is on heightened energy now; and angel power. I just hope she gets to rest along the way. I can't wait to hear more.
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
Since this is a 27 day tour I am sure Simon will let Susan choose as to what she wants to do. This fan club is really .. on hold.. until we see what Simon and Ossie agree as to contracts for Susan. As soon as the contracts are legally signed I am sure they will let us know what is going to happen.

Also, those who are interested in Piers blog.. just google.. Piers Morgan, Wikipedia.. to the right is his official site. Click on that and it takes you to his website. Many from this fan club as well as myself have been posting on Piers blog since the first audition. I am sure he will be giving out news that is more correct than the tabloids which are hard to believe at best. :)

piggie, I know what i sent and believe the media know they had better shape up their act. Since this was sent I have noticed they have been kinder to Susan. I have for many years in my field taken up and defended those who needed help so I think what I sent them will suffice and make a difference. I have done this for many years. You have to threaten people like this or otherwise they will not respond to nice etiquette. :)

Posted by katladyd on June 08, 2009
The new header is not the one I liked the best (no Pebbles), but it is gorgeous and striking in its simplicity. It is most likely the one Susan would have chosen, so I am happy with it. That shade of blue is beatiful!
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
I might add ... by threatening to not watch or read those in the media and contact their sponsors and not buy their sonsors products if they keep speaking ill of Susan.. it goes a long way.. because in this world wide economy mess.. the media and spnsors do not want to lose business. Several newspapers have already gone out of business because of the economy. So, if their smart the media should hopefully be kinder to Susan. :)
Posted by Catherine from San Diego on June 08, 2009
Hmm, let's see now . . . Susan has won fans all over the world by being genuine, by doing things largely her way (not completely, I agree, but largely). Maybe she'll tour in her own way, at her own pace. Maybe Susan Boyle has the character, the sense of self, and the following that will allow her to set her own performance standards and practices. Maybe she's not the helpless victim some are worried about, and just maybe she's an insightful woman who is able to effectively judge who will provide the expertise to best help her continue on her skyward path. No maybe about this: my dream is her dream. SING, SUSAN, SING!

I think there were much better/more flattering photos of Susan,--but this banner is a great improvement over anything that had to do with BGT. Thanks to all who made the effort. Lionel Richie makes a statement about Susan's need for time to get used to the fame, very sensible:

http://musicnews.virginmedia.com/entertainment/news/music/2009/06/08/lionel_nicole_is_the_best_mum

"What people have to understand is it took me, Michael [Jackson], Prince - it took us 25 to 30 years to get comfortable on the stage."

And to think that some media people thought she should adjst immediately! Who could do that?

Your Awesome, I am sure hoping that at each stop a lot of us will be able to attend together. It would be bodacious. Or should I say Sudacious. I think it was Kalua who said we were a village, and then I threw in the Global. I am quite fond of it as a name for us. Because as I said I think that's what we have created here after Susan brought us all together. If the Good Lord is willing and the Creeks don't rise (did you know that doesn't refer to creeks but to the Creek Indians) I intend to get to one of her concerts, and I sure won't to be amongst fellow Villagers, whooping and hollering, and of course sitting together and shouting Susan, Susan, Susan when she appears.

@spiritualwoman - thank you for that video link! Wow, those were really great words from Enrique and Lionel!
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Oh, I have flown many times. Still hate it! I'm hoping she comes to Cincinnati sometime - I can drive there in less than an hour. I'd love to get together with some or all of you somehow, somewhere and surely hope I can. What joy just thinking about possibly seeing Susan and with you, my friends. Wow, what a thrill! We sure would cheer her, wouldn't we!!!

YourAwesome, I know something else you might not know, Les Miserables was being widely read in America during the Civil War, and a lot of the Confederate soldiers in the Virginia theatre, fighting more directly under Lee took to calling themselves, Lee's Miserables.
Posted by WAMcKinley on June 08, 2009
I appreciate the perspective of performers like Richie and Iglasia who know what it's like! And I'm grateful they speak out in support of Susan. Thanks, spiritualwoman.

A couple of us said Global Village, if you track it back. Great meaning there.

Just got home and really happy to see the new banner. It is great! Has anyone heard if Susan is still in Scotland or heard any news about her today or seen new pictures? I'm going into Susan withdrawal! Where is TXNoelle?

3:30 PM : Rosie-San Diego: I have a list of the four albums Susan is to record in Prague -- but am not sure how long they plan to take for all four. They are: 1: Brodadway Classics (or Broadway Tunes); Christmas; Gospel and maybe -- I don't know I remember this correctly, West End. Then there is our list of (Susan and Friends -- just an idea -- no reality I know.) 3:35 pm

Hi YourAwesome...Creek's are part of the Muskhogean Nation...along with the Seminole; Cickasaw and Choctaw..so one making statements about Native American's..should not be kicking up dust for a joke that seems to offend them...
Posted by WAMcKinley on June 08, 2009
I didn't hear of anyone getting offended over the Creek comment. Why would they??
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
It was reported that because of the internet that Susan has gained international fame much sooner than Elvis and the Beatles as their careers happened the old way.
Posted by YourAwesome on June 08, 2009
@dannymac...GREAT ..very interesting facts!! Kudo's and thanks for teaching. I love learning new tidbits..your computer brain is FULL!! Lee's Miserables...good one!

Doesn't matter who said it. The concept is the thing. So very apropo.

TXNoelle may still be at her daughter's and not time for posting. Not sure how long she was going to be there.
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
BJ, good info! How did you get that? I had heard that she was going to do Broadway classics, but not the rest. Tell you the truth, I'd buy Baa Baa Black Sheep if Susan did it. Anything.

I didn't know that about the Creek. Always thought it meant the flowing water kind of creek - that's really interesting.

WAMcKinley and YourAwesome, I myself have a little Creek blood.

I picked this up from "Google." Much of what's in there disputes the theory that this phrase has anything to do with Creek Indians,---but instead refers to the body of water that in olden times could impede one's progress when traveling. Go check it out on Google. This one comes from a "Big Apple" entry:

"If the Good Lord’s Willin’ (and the Creeks Don’t Rise)” means that if all goes well and nothing unforeseen occurs, this event will happen. This is also the title of a Hank Williams, Jr. song.

The phrase dates from at least the 1850s. Sometimes the first part is replaced with “Providence permitting.” Some people have interpreted the saying to be about the Creeks (Indian tribe) rising, but the lack of capitalization seems to indicate that “creek” means a body of water.

Never ask a man if he is from Texas Good Lord willin’; and the creek don’t rise.

Longhorns, Aggies & the Texas State of Mind “God willing and the creek don’t rise” means “if nothing unforeseen happens we’ll be there.”

YAHOO! Music Hank Williams, Jr. If The Good Lord’s Willin’ (And The Creeks Don’t Rise) From the album: Almeria Club Genres: Outlaw Country

June 1851, Graham’s American Monthly Magazine of Literature, Art and Fashion, “The Doolittle Delegation to a ‘Woman’s Rights Convention’” by Miss L. Virginia Smith, pg. 447: “‘Feller-citizens—I’m not ‘customed to public speakin’ before such highfalutin’ audiences....Yet here I stand before you a speckled hermit, wrapt in the risen-sun counterpane of my popilarity, an’ intendin’, Providence permittin’, and the creek don’t rise, to ‘go it blind!’....”

17 November 1868, Petersburg (VA) Index, pg. 2, col. 1: “Trust in Providence and keep your powder dry,” “God helps them who help themselves,” “Providence permitting and the creek don’t rise,” are all expressions which would never have occurred to a pious Mussulman.

I have a little Chinook Indian blood. Some of my extended family are offended about the name being used for Chinook helicopters, Chinook salmon, Chinook motor homes, etc., but others think it is an honor. I'm with the latter group. Anyway, I'm just too busy to spend time being offended!

Interesting stuff WAMcKinley. I can only speak from what I was told when studying Ameerican history. May be like a lot of other things where what is thought or interpreted changes over periods of time. Very commonly used in the South, in any case.
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
Apparently, I have not made myself very clear. I AGREE that SUSAN stands ALONE. I was just pointing out according to an article I read about the power of the internet. There has been several newspapers fold because people can get instant news reports than is quicker than the printed press. :)

Danny, I'm an English major and may have forgotten all the history I learned, but I don't think I ever heard that one. Oh well, doesn't matter - just had never heard that before.

Any new pictures? Somebody said there was one of Susan getting off the plane in Scotland, but I have not found that as yet. I don't mean to be intrusive on her, just love seeing our dear girl smiling and happy.

TXNoelle posted something late yesterday in the other blog. It reads: "SUSAN - How're yall doin' this evening? Admin must be working hard on getting a forum up, because he hasn't posed a new blog, I see. - SUSAN"

I guess by including the name SUSAN in the start and end of her post, she's trying to tell us she's still miffed about being called out for not staying on topic!

Wild Ol dan, you I am afraid took my posting out of context. It was not meant the way you took it. Yes, Susan has earned it the old way by putting up with bullies and people who refused to recognize her talent, sp please , we all love Susan here so let us try and take things in the spirit it was offered and not because of every word is correctly precise with all t's crossed and i's dotted. :).

This is a nice Susan support web site (and I am sure that one which has many genuine Susan fans having a good chat forum); however I am put off this website by, 1. several of the sycophantic videos posted (i.e. the several videos posted of Susan with someone else singing in the background which seem to be posted by the website organisers, 2. The fact that the web site hosters were actually asking for money to support this site from members, 3. This is indeed not the official Susan Boyle website, as the official Susan Boyle website does not exist yet (but should be available soon)
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
piggie, TXxNoelle is visiting her daughter and after that is moving from Dallas to Houston. She did post once on another blog but she also posted before that... she is visiting her daughter and then moving. :)

I am so happy they chose the new layout. That was the one I was for. Is it just me or is Susan a much stronger singer than Elaine. I mean no disrespect!
Posted by PIGGIE on June 08, 2009
@ilovsusan - that was a good video, very interesting. It's hard to know whether I'm biased or not, some of those others were dreadful, some were quite good, but I still like Susan's the best. When I hear her sing that first line, it's like I "see" perfectly round circles, whereas listening to the others I see somewhat more flattened circles. Hard to explain...

Jazzineva and Maigret, I agree with you about the new header. I love the background, the twinkling stars and the general lay out, but there are indeed lots of other more flattering pictures of Susan. She looks older on those and I don't see her charming smile in any. Maybe she has to be singing to get that wonderful inner beauty shine through but I think if we have to put photos of her on this site, they have to do her a favour. Apart from that, this new header is really classy and I like it, though it was not my favourite(I liked header 4). Thanks a lot to whoever designed it.

To DannyMAC, sorry, I didn't mean to shower you with my French phrases! Let's just say for tonight, Susan Boyle est magnifique! D'accord?

What are we going to do when Simon sets up Susan's official website...belong to both? I for one would hate to lose this site where it all began and also being able to see Tommy's videos. It just seems like we have been here for a long time and kind of all came together when nobody else was supporting Susan.
Posted by FocusOnSusan on June 08, 2009
@Szilvester,

The videos you mention are tribute videos to Susan created by our many members here and notably, Susan's biggest fan who goes by the handle of TommyUSA. He has created some wonderful tributes to Susan, and has even sent them to her with a letter expressing our feelings for her.

The membership actually suggested to the site organizers that some were willing to contribute to make the site better; there is no coercion here...you may contribute if you'd like, but still have all the benefits if you don't.

We never said we were the 'official' website, but I think that many here are pulling for this site to be *it.*

Welcome, and enjoy your time here.

I think Susan's voice FAR surpasses Elaine Paige's,----and not just because I'm a Susan fan. If you listen to the two voices, Susan's has a clarity and purity, the way she lands precisely on every note,---that Elaine's doesn't have. Elaine has a good, strong stage voice. She can belt out those musical numbers. But for sheer voice quality and beauty,---she can't hold a candle to Susan. And what's more,---I'm convinced she knows it. That's why she admires Susan so much!

Have y'all taken time to listen to the Cry Me A River recording. I just really settled down to listen to it closely. This woman is SO talented. She is NOT a one song sensation. She's just sensational! She has such control of her voice and the tones are SO pretty. This is beautifully sung - would love to see it on her new C.D. Wonder what songs she'll pick to showcase those pipes she's got! WOW.

Cheering Susan on at the launch pad of her career.

Oh Hi YUSA: I'm a Canadian and we don't use that expression in Canada but gobsmacked means overwhelmingly suprised - shocked - speachless. I only know these things cos I'm a big Coronation Street fan and am constantly amused at these type of sayings.
Posted by BethInTheUSA on June 08, 2009
Regarding the Creeks discussion: the origin of the phrase "if the creeks don't rise" has been lost in obscurity for almost 200 years, so I don't think it could possibly be meant as an insult to American Indians when used by most non-historians. The term was used in a song recorded by Johnny Cash in a clear farming reference to flooding. I'm sure 99% of the American population know the term as a reference to flooding and use it in that way. Up until about 40 years ago, 70% of the American population were still engaged in agriculture, so it's a natural thing to say. If you live in farming country like I do, you know what I mean!

Here is the Johnny Cash song lyrics:

Posted by susaphile on June 08, 2009
I find it hard to understand why nobody picked Susan from the crowd 25 years ago! She was just as obviously a talent then, and we've been deprived of this wonderful voice for all that time. She outstrips Elaine Paige without even trying - and without a doubt she deserves all the care and attention we can give her!

re: publication on mainboard/vs e-mail

Mr.Navyvet,I know you are a MR,people here have been very friendly and civil to you,had a lot of patiece with you too.I have gone through *all*, yes *all* of your postings from 01 June 'till today, just to check if I am mistaken on what I thought I was reading and understanding.

Forgive me for saying so,I amazed and shocked, most of them come across as agresive, negative, full of anger and frustration... only you know why (at least I hope). The words (I will not repeat them),the way they are used in posts, the tone, etc etc.... Are you sure you want to add something posive here in that manner to this friendley, cheerful 'gathering' of Susanfans from all over the world??You claim being from her village see post on 01 June, do you think you she and other folks from that very same village would like to see you posts here?

You accuse people here of 'bullying'... I would feel bullied by you, but I will not let you and will *stand up* for folks you are trying to do this to! Bad luck for you,it happens to be an important part of my job- that has my heart and soul, in daily life.I recognize the pattern, the way you move about f.i.!

DannyMac is right, I fully agree, 100%: do not hide behind e-mail, have it here in the open, for

ALL of us to see!

You may think you are kind of 'invisible' on this blog with an alias, however, with what you are writting and the way you choose your words, you are revealing more-and-more about yourself to us...

Ms. Page is good and has made her mark on the stage, but I agree that Susan is a far better singer. Ms. Page has been very gracious in her praise of Susan, and I really like her for that. So many stars think that there isn't room for other stars, but Ms. Page is very nice. Nobody's as good as Susan, though, and nobody has that magical effect on everybody that our girl does.

Jayhawk, I agree. I would hate to lose this site - we have all made a lot of friends on here, united by our love of sweet Susan.

Has anyone heard where Susan is today? Is she still in Scotland or back in London? I do wish someone close to her would just let us know how she is. Don't want to intrude on her, but worry about her constantly.

Let's face it. None of us in the USA had heard of Elaine Paige prior to Susan mentioning her name. Susan should do her own CD and NOT do anything with Elaine until she's established her own thing. Elaine sees the golden goose and wants to hop on Susan's coat tails. Susan, just stay sweet and close to Jesus and sing for Him.

DannyMac, agree with you re: Navyvet.

Navyvet, I quote a previous post to you on an other blog on this site, after you went ballistic on an other poster, "Navyvet, interesting to have you say "...can we just be nice" when I have read your posts being nasty with various members here off and on since the onset. YOU get a grip. This is not what we're about. " You complain about the negative posts yet you are the biggest instigator. Whenever anyone disagrees with you you go ballistic. Hi, what a gorgeous header...but to repeat everyone else's comments, they were ALL great. I should have been on the blog hours ago (wasn't feeling too well myself), now am tired after reading, as quickly as I could, all the new info. I like the Piers article very much. I'd like to thank those fans in the chatroom last night, early morning, who helped me with voting. I somehow lost touch with a couple of fans part way through, though my name was still up on the board. I hope they DID get my message eventually which I sent by someone who was able to 'read' me.

I had to laugh a DJG's comments. Is the Darlington you were talking about, in N.E. England (there are Darlington's all over the world)...you see I am originally from Middlesbrough N.E. England and there are dozens of Middlsbroughs around the world. Darlington in UK is not far from where I grew up and I visit for shopping during my summer visits.

Accent-wise, I haven't lost mine, even after living in Canada for 27 years...but both my girls have lovely Canadian accents. One girl born here (25 now - into acting and has great fun speaking in a Middlesbrough accent from time to time..) the other girl was around 3 when we brought her here and lost the little English accent she had, very quickly.

It's fun when we are in Middlesbrough England together....because some people in shops etc. can't figure out why this girl, with a 'funny' accent is calling ME 'mom'...We get a kick out of this...but when I was watching films when I was younger, I couldn't understand how people in the same family could have different accents. The Granges cousin, aunts etc...on my husband's side are spread out all over the globe now so we have, Scottish accents,(numbers growing as new Granges are born) Australian (quite a few), London England accents, Middlesbrough and Welsh....It's quite fun when we meet in small groups but even BETTER if we could ALL get together at the same time one day eh?

One again, great header and thanks to all for the lovely work you did. It'd be great to see some others now and again.....

So on Saturday night in London last week Wood decided on a lark that this Susan Boyle woman he read about might 'take off' when Britain's Got Talent would be broadcast. He'd seen her in the auditions and decided to take a risk. He bought the URL Susan-Boyle.com and Sunday night - moments after the broadcast - he had a fan site for her up on line.

Susan-Boyle.com has created a pop-up destination where people can connect, share stories, record videos, and watch Susan Boyle's video experience. It is a feel good site with most comments gushing with enthusiasm and support. There is something that feels good about watching a community grow organically around such a positive media moment and personality. We just don't have enough of this stuff these days.

Four days later he has a website that is getting close to a million page views a day and has over 12,000 registered members. http://www.huffingtonpost.com/steve-rosenbaum/the-untold-susan-boyle-st_b_188719.html

BethinTHEUSA, apparently some don't know that because I have received emails off this fan club sight asking the same question.

I do have a friend who is on another Susan Boyle fan club and they have a membership of 1,475,000 members.

Here is the Huffington Post article again for those who haven't seen it; it talks about Paul Wood and the origin of this website:

IN THE BEGINNING GOD CREATED THE HEAVENS AND THE EARTH....THEN THERE WERE BLOGS!!!! HELP!!! LOL

LAUGH...and have a good one!!!! SUSANITO'S!!
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
I think because of the long blogs that some information is getting lost to the members of this fan club. I think a lot will be straightened out once the forum is set up and we can find the important postings easier. A lot of the members feel this way. :)
Posted by BethInTheUSA on June 08, 2009
mdillow: it's true, with 1,000s of posts, it's too hard to find out what you want to know. A search feature would be nice. If there is one for the blogs, I can't find it.
Posted by ammo on June 08, 2009
Mrlscan, I read your comments. I think people just get a bit overexcited when they are typing and sometimes forget to acknowldge others. I wouldn't take it personally. Look at how I 'rabbit' on when I get on here.....That's because I was a secretary many years ago. It could beworse, someone just told me about software called Dragon Speak....or something like that....you just speak and the computer types. Think I'd be banned from the site if I was able to use that blogging.

Yes we all love Susan, I am just going to pop off and see what was in the British papers today. Bye for now.

Mrlscan: please don't feel left out; if nobody has anything to reply, that isn't necessarily a bad thing! Either nobody knows the answer to the question, or doesn't disagree with you or have a correction to make. You could say something scandalous and make a big row, but then I don't think you intend that? LOL

Mrlscan, I, too, feel as though I'm posting into a black hole, especially since I keep offering the bright idea of swamping Amazon with requests and excited posts, but almost no one ever responds, even to say why they don't think it's worth the effort. Quite frustrating.

So hello to you, and your picture of what must be the twin of my once-in-a-lifetime cat Revel! Truly, it's time consuming to read the posts, let alone reply. But I've been enjoying your cat's picture every time you post! Cheers--

Yusa, I am in northern Kentucky, 46 miles SW of Cincinnati. What part are you transplanted from?

Miriscan, I know how you feel - happened to me yesterday. I finally realized that there are so many postings that it's hard to keep up with and answer everybody. It isn't intentional.

Regarding Ryan: He was posting on here last week - or the one before, can't remember - and said he lived in Blackburn and knew Susan. He told us that we could send an e-mail message for her, he would print it out and give it to her. I have sent several messages to him for Susan but they have never been acknowledged so I don't know whether she received them. As far as I know, there are no family members here. There is another site - totally bogus - who claims it is run by Susan's nephew and that she talks to them on it. We know that isn't true - Susan does not have a computer. Last time I checked that site they only had about 10 posts on it, so it's not doing very well. This is the best Susan site, making no false claims and united by our love of Susan.

A new article just published well worth a read. Not specifically about Susan, but the article talks to previous contestants on BGT and X Factor. Makes difficult reading. Most suggest the programmes don't really care about the contestants at all. If these comments are true, I can probably see the real reason Susan was upset during the final week:

I think this tour will be quite different for Susan than the show. She is the Star of this vehicle and they are more than bending over backward to accomodate her. Susan is one of the best known persons on the planet and I'm sure they will give her everything she wants. I will bet she wants a little down time and Pebbles. That will about cover it, though I think she will get much, much, more. Go Susan!
Posted by mdillow31 on June 08, 2009
pottedferne, I received an email from Amazon saying that i wa on the notification list when Susan's CD is made and they can offer it to the public for sale. They told me I would get a notification email from Amazon.. but then... would have to come back to Amazon.. and order the CD.

Susan and Simon so far haven't made the CD.

DJG, I more than suspect it is true, for them it's just about ratings, ie. $$$$$. I believe there is a lot that we don't know about and she had every right to be upset, that night was just the straw that broke the camel's back. Fortunately, Susan is resilient and she bounced back like the super trooper that she is. She's had her share of adversity throughout her life and at end of the day the rises above it.

Susan, you go girl, we got your back.

re: official website

>>lady in spectacles who is sitting next to the young girl pulling faces in the audience<<

You are sooo right, saw that...would she be someone from Susan's town or even her sister?

>>This site as absulutely nothing to do with Susan's family <<

Ooh...really?Why do you think this, or how do you know so?I've been reading here all the time that a certain Ryan and Paul are somehow related to Susan; nephew + friend.Do you think that's not correct?
Posted by Casey'smom on June 08, 2009
Navyvet, I wasn't going to dignify your response with a comment but to end this nonsense...I don't agree with what everyone says and not everyone agrees with what I say, that's life, it's fair, we're people not robots, being different is what makes us interesting. No need to get one's back up, no need to be nasty.

Susan has 'bounced back like a rubber ball'

Susan Boyle. Picture: PA

« Previous « PreviousNext » Next » View GalleryADVERTISEMENTPublished Date: 06 June 2009 By HAZEL MOLLISON AS if any more evidence was needed, Susan Boyle is surely now living the life of an international pop star.

The 48-year-old spinster, who two months ago was content with performing karaoke in her local in Blackburn, checked out of the world famous Priory clinic yesterday – and went straight into a meeting about a record deal.

Britain's Got Talent judge and record producer Simon Cowell met Susan and her brother Gerry yesterday to discuss her singing career. Cowell is reported to be keen to sign a recording contract and believes she can be a big success in America, as well as at home.

Gerry, a businessman from Musselburgh, said his sister was "much happier". The former church volunteer has spent five days recovering at the Priory in north London after suffering an anxiety attack in the wake of her defeat by dance act Diversity in the final of the talent show.

He said: "Susan is doing fine. She's back with us and keen to get on with things. She had been in the spotlight for seven weeks and she was simply exhausted.

"She needed time to recuperate. Now she's bounced back like a rubber ball.

"We've had a meeting with Simon Cowell to discuss where to go with her career. Simon and I had a good chat, then I left them to it. I'm sure Susan's career is going to skyrocket from here. America is crying out for the CD that's never been made.

"If Susan steps out of a plane in America, there will be queues to meet her. Elaine Paige and Donny Osmond are already interested. I think it's wonderful the press has had such a huge interest in her.

"It's been a seven-week fairytale, albeit with a lot of stress. Simon said she could be one of the biggest stars they've had and they'll look after her.

"I'm perfectly happy with how she's doing."

He said Susan plans to stay in central London for the time being, while she makes plans for the future. Several family members are remaining in London with her. She already has two nieces who live there.

However, she is missing her cat Pebbles, who remains at home in Blackburn.

Gerry, who flew back to Edinburgh last night, added: "Blackburn will always be the centre of Susan's universe. But I'm not sure when she'll be coming back. People working in entertainment often have to spend a lot of time away from home."

A spokeswoman for Britain's Got Talent said: "Susan is still resting and wants to be away from the spotlight for a while. She's taking some time out."

I know tha changing territory for a cat is difficult, but they do adapt, they don't like haing to, as long as their Mom or Dad is there with them. I was a cat Mom before, but she loves her Pebbles and Pebbles loves her. If she's going to be away that long hhhhmmmm have Pebbles with her in London, unless that will be just aplace to drop her hat....

Things are happenning really fast now, hope she can handle it, I know I couldn't.

geramsterdam, I've been on this fansite almost from the start. Paul is the administrator of the site, and as far as we know not related to Susan. As I stated previously, Ryan lives in Blackburn and says he knows Susan but has never claimed any relationship to her. The site claiming to be run by her nephew is not this site. This was clarified to us a couple weeks ago.

@markjax..i have asked myself that question about Susan's voice too. She has such a full and melodious voice even when she is talking. One blogger referred it to smooth and creamy like milk chocolate. I think she is incredible with the length of time she can hold a note and go up through the octaves as well. She would put Midler to shame with Wind Beneath my Wings - especially the ending "my wings".

NEW YORK, N.Y. -- Susan Boyle has already wowed Britain – along with the entire world via YouTube – but is the “Britain’s Got Talent” sensation ready for Broadway? Many of the 2009 Tony Awards attendees told Access Hollywood they’d love to see SuBo on the Great White Way.

“Oh, she’s fantastic,” Dolly Parton told Access on Sunday night at Radio City Music Hall in New York. “She’d be great on Broadway. I want to meet her too.”

Broadway legend Liza Minnelli agreed, but warned of the possible pitfalls that can come with fame.

“Why not? I think she would be wonderful!” Liza exclaimed, “If she could stand the pressure. You know.”

Allison Janney, who stars in the Tony-nominated “9 to 5,” said Susan will shine once the media firestorm surrounding her calms.

“She just needs to get all the heat off her from this craziness and settle down and get into her life again,” Allison told Access. “Take advantage of her, you know, newfound fame and do a musical or do things she never thought she’d be able to do. I’m happy for her.”

Constantine Maroulis, who nabbed a Tony nomination for “Rock of Ages,” advised Susan to stay determined and to never forget who she is.

“Just work hard and believe in yourself. Not to sound too corny. She seems like a nice woman. And the right part for the right person,” he explained. “You never know. Things can work out.”

As for actress Gina Gershon, she told Access she’d imagined Susan on a Broadway stage since the second she first laid eyes on her.

“When I saw her tape, the first thing I thought was put her on Broadway,” Gina said, adding, “She just seems like she would have a blast and she seems to have the right voice and the right attitude for it. I would go see her!”

Happy, d'accord. Kalua and Reinder, I got pretty much the whole drift of what you posted, which always gives me a good feeling. I really enjoyed the two years of college French I took. Never got where to where I couldspeak it veery well, could understand the spoken if tghe person spoke slowly, ccould fread pretty good, write it spontaneously a little. One of the best parts of it was reading the literature in French, including L'Etranger (a downer of a story to me), and The Little Prince. We listened to The Little Prince in French in lab, each of us in a cubicle and at the end, you could hear sniffling all overt the lab room

Szilvester: I see that my videos offend you. I apologize for that. But let me explain. These are not just videos, with other people singing in the background...these are tribute videos, love letters to the one we love...Apparently you are a new member that doesn't understand the love we have for our Susan. If they offend you that much, please just don't click on them. Their are thousands more here that get the point. Blessings, Tommy

A couple more bits:

London, (ANI): The story of Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle will certainly end up on the big screen, according to Barry Norman, former presenter of the BBC’s Film programme. The 75-year-old thinks that the Scottish singing sensation’s story is perfect cinema fodder. “Susan is a film waiting to happen after what has happened to her,” the Daily Express quoted him as saying.

Susan Boyle is determined to be a part of Britain's Got Talent tour and has told bosses, "Get me on the stage." The Scottish singing sensation, who was admitted to London’s Priory clinic following reports that she suffered emotional breakdown because of her defeat in the show’s final, has bounced back.

She is taking rest at home in Scotland but is desperate to be on the tour, which starts in Birmingham on Friday.

Boss Simon Cowell has secured her a slot and tour insiders say she is "highly likely" to perform.

However, the music mogul has said that she can pull out at any time if she feels under too much pressure.

"Susan has recovered and is feeling on top of the world,” the Sun quoted a show source as saying.

"She's staying with a friend back home, surrounded by loved ones and her beloved cat Pebbles.

"As the first date is just days away, everyone wants to be sure that she is 100 per cent mentally fit for it," the source added.

@mrlscan, re: Susan's initial utube audition. I'm /you. That little scene caught my eye from the very beginning - the contrast of the young woman openly sneering - and the right-on perception of the older, mature woman.

@Catherine from San Diego: I did want to thank you for continuing to remind people to sign-up for the amazon alert when Susan's CD is available. I was one of the first to signup, and I keep checking that 'most popular' in the 1st to Know link, and still don't see Susan up there. Many of the albums appearing in that list do not have release dates, so it can't be that those without release dates aren't considered. Yet when I look at what's on that list, I simply cannot believe more people are requesting notice of some of those albums than they are of Susan's (Best of Debbie Reynolds....really??) But it is important to keep reminding people to do this, especially as amazon.co.uk does not have that feature!

@ca0911: Just go to amazon.com, find the music category, and put Susan Boyle in the search box. Or you can try the direct link: http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_m?url=search-alias%3Dpopular&field-keywords=susan+boyle The first album to come up will be something that says "New Release" by Susan Boyle. Click on New Release, and that will take you to another link that says "Send email alert when this item is available."

Mrlscan, What One thing I like about this site is we can discuss all the little things when a lot of people look at the big picture only. I noticed it at the finals, and each time I watch it how as devastated as Susan looked that night, when she finished with Shame and hit and held the high note she smiled. Then she tossed her head, which I still haven't figured out. I also love the way she smiles and sort of looks around in the semi finals-- shows real poise and confidence. Blessings to all,
Posted by MrIscan on June 08, 2009
I do think some of Susan's facial expressions in the audition video are so very attractive......love her when she narrows her eyes in serious moments....such a wise expression

Navyvet, TXnoelle, is busy, she's away today dealing with her move. Somebody said that she was moving from Houton to Dallas or vice versa, they are suburbs. No she is moving an hour away from where she lives to be closer to her daughter. A lot goes into moving, uprooting yourself, especially when you're doing it on your own. I would know, went rom Momtreal to Hong Kong, to Alberta to P.E.I. to Ottawa alone within a seven year period. Moving is major stress and wor.

Hope our TXNoelle and our Susan have help, but even then, it's mega stress.

Where's Wild Ol'Dan, miss his calming voice.
Posted by MrIscan on June 08, 2009
The head tossing was from the voice coach obviously...I think they should let Susan be her natural self...she has a natural way on stage......found all those movements a bit rehearsed but I think the contestants have to do as the BGT staff say on stage

You know I have just spent half the day comaring elaine paige and susan boyle singing. They would do some great songs together. I just watched elaine's interview with larry king about susan. It was so nice to hear. There are so many professional singers like elaine and pattie lapone saying how clear, pure and strong her voice is. I loved paige' comment about susan's techniques and how good they are. I would like to hear susan sing Ave Maraia, someone even suggested patsy clines crazy. I can hear her now. I know it will take a little time for that first cd because susan will be wanting it to sound great. I know she will be so thrilled to sing with the orchasrias. Keep praying for her. There are so many cinics out there. Doesn't sound like Dolly, Liza and others think like those cinics. They think she has lots of tallent. I do too!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Catherine from San Diego on June 08, 2009
Lonnirose, if most people on the site had already signed up, Susan would be on the list of favorites. At my last check, WHALE SOUNDS were on the list, but no Susan! Casey'smom, you're not signing up with a promise to buy anything from the American Amazon site, just that you're eager to know about the release. And the comments section under "What artists are you most excited about . . ." is just, well, comments! I'm sure that Amazon the world over will be glad to know about eager potential customers.
Posted by Wild Ol' Dan on June 08, 2009
Howdy Pards,

According to most news reports I am seeing Susan will be the star at every one of the Britain's Got Talent Tour stops. She WANTS to do this as a way of thanking her many fans for their support.

This is a very important step on Susan's continuing journey. I believe she is doing the right thing.

You know I've been reading a good many of the posts today and I just wanted to say that if you get 22,000plus personalities in the same room there's a pretty good chance that there will be a difference of opinion now and then.

Some personalities just do not play well in a team situation, some personalities want all things their way, some personalities will stir the pot just for the fun of stirring the pot...of getting a reaction.

We all came here in celebration of Lady Susan Boyle... that's our primary focus. Let's focus, as TommyUSA often says, on that purpose and forget about what Tom said about Harry or Sally or whoever. We want to have fun here because the one we celebrate has a delightful sense of humor and a smile that brightens our world.

We want to share the latest news and information because we deeply care about Susan and are eager to learn how her dreams are coming true.

I think a good many of us are worriers by nature. We tend not to trust others, even if they have the best of intentions. We've been hurt before...and we do not want our Susan to be hurt again in any way.

The thing is Susan can't stay home and still accomplish her dreams...she knows this. Remember it was her courage that brought her to that audition. If it wasn't for Susan's courage and self confidence we wouldn't be celebrating her here today. This remarkable woman is not weak in any way whatsoever. She was tired. She needed some rest. She got that rest. And, now the dream continues...the dream to be a professional singer like Elaine Paige.

I continue to believe that the ONLY VILLAIN in Susan Boyle's story up to this point has been the British Tabloid Press!

There are no other villains. Not Piers who has supported her from the minute he said "the biggest YES I have ever given on this show." Not Simon who has said he "absolutely adores" Susan. Not Amanda, who said Susan was "the biggest wake-up call ever!" Not Britains Got Talent who helped Susan bring her talent to the world. Certainly not Elaine Paige who has supported Susan from the minute she heard her.

The reason Susan shot to world wide fame is pure and simple...everyone who saw and heard this wonderful lady fell in love with her...were overwhelmed by the joy and happiness she brought to their hearts. She earned her fame!

So, mor'n 22,000 of us have gathered in this space to celebrate. Hit that little red button below and you will see that we are from all corners of the world. One big happy family drawn togehter because we love a wonderful lady from Scotland with the amazing ability to touch all of our hearts. And...we love Pebbles too.

Nothing like this has ever happened before...we are a part of something mighty special...and worth celebrating. So...smile pards...let the celebration continue.

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Wild Ol' Dan
Posted by MrIscan on June 08, 2009
Look at this one....In the final when Susan finishes the song she, for a split second right at the very end seems to screw her eyes as if fighting back tears.....or maybe she was just very very tired...watch it
Posted by Casey'smom on June 08, 2009
I'm not sure I gree Mrlcan, I think that was Susan being herself all the while feeling a lot of stress and being very rigid in her movements because of it. Which by the way were a lot more graceful, than I would have done under the circumstances.

To begin with, well okay wouldn't have done he hip thing but that's me, but it made her all the more endearing and real. The rest though, under that tremendous amount of stress, winning for her Mum, the media hype fantastic, then bad, she did great! I know I couldn't of handled that.
Posted by Teesiel on June 08, 2009
I've been on this site since just about the beginning and one thing I've not understood following all the posts is Susan's brother Gerry. They say she is in hiding and then he announces that she's in a flat in Radlett, London. When asked what she'll do with all of her new money Susan said, "I don't know. I really don't." Gerry, on the other hand when asked, said Susan has said she will take of all her family with it." I just can't help but wonder sometimes if for whatever reason, the family dynamics was to keep her down in a way. Not intentionally, but it was a pattern and they stuck with it. Tell someone they aren't as good as the rest and they will believe it in a short time. Her self esteem has been killed, even now and what goes down in childhood is tough tough tough to shake. Yes, they are all ecstatic NOW, but really when was the last time you heard any celebs siblings on "their" behalf? SUSAN is going to need TWO PRESS AGENTS. One for the real pr releases and the other one to undo the damage of the yappy family members, imo! All the more an example of the human spirit that Susan was able to prevail! PS MY husband is taking me to the BGT tour on Monday in Glasgow--flying from Philadelphia just for the show--he said it was cheaper than putting me in the Priory where he thinks I belong, after all this Susan stuff! Even if she pulls out it will still be a kick to go.

You know, once or twice a year my partner Sabine and I go on holydays to warmer countries. When I come home I have to clean my mailbox with about a thousand mails? It takes me 20 to 30 minutes to wander all though the worthwile messages and the trash. Let's imagine what will happen to someone's email box when plus 20,000 don't agree with a troll? That is the strategy. Not debating/discussing publically, but overload the trolls.

Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Dan, I agree with everything you just said. I've said over and over that it was the tabloid press that made Susan ill. The show managers and other professionals don't pay attention to the vultures in the press because they're used to them and so just let it roll off them. But Susan is an innocent in that area, so of course it upset her. First they're celebrating her, then they turned against her - how could she be expected to understand that? I don't understand it myself. BGT immediately moved her to another hotel, but the damage to Susan was already done. I do wish someone had been there to protect her, but BGT may have been as surprised as anyone else that Susan was harassed.

Howdy mdillow31,

Nope I didn't take your posting wrong. I still love ya.

I just needed to say that Susan got her fame the old fashioned way...she earned it. Perhaps I should have added by touching all of our hearts...and bringing us a deeper joy and happiness than we ever imagined possible. Yep...we're one BIG happy family...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Comment on Amazon: They do work with some countries. Have family in Germany; and that's how we do Christmas gifts. Works great!
Posted by ca0911 on June 08, 2009
There is a place on the Extra website to vote on if you would buy Susan's album. So far it is only 69% to 31% yes so be sure to get on the site and vote.
Posted by ca0911 on June 08, 2009
Thanks so much for the info re Amazon.........it works. For those who don't want to scan all the comments, I will repeat. Go to Amazon.com, put Susan Boyle cd in the search box and there will be a box to ask for an e-mail alert when the product becomes available. Cool
Posted by Lonnirose on June 08, 2009
Oh yeah, Linda Sharon, I know our Susan will be fine. True Scottish grit - that's what she has. I just hate knowing somebody hurt her, you know? She didn't deserve that. I'm just so protective of Susan - maternal instinct!

Catherine, you make a good point. If everybody on here has ordered Susan's CD, why aren't the numbers off the charts? Does Amazon show orders from all over the world or does it maybe only show orders from whatever region you're ordering from? Not sure I said that right, but you know what I mean. I've tried to do it over and over, but they don't let you do that.

Wild Ol dan, I love ya guy but I did think you took my posting wrong at the time. I was posting from an article what I read. It wasn't so much on Susan as it was just showing how the internet and 24/7 news has brought things of all kinds to us faster. I hardly read my local paper anymore as I can get it off the internet in minutes. So, many of us knew more about Susan and faster than we did Elvis and the Beetles. As far as Susan is concerned I love her dearly and she tops Elvis and the Beetles and everyone else in my book. :):)

pottedferne, the Woodlands is outside of Houston. I did tennis photography there a few years back. TXNolle was living in Dallas. Someone on this blog thought Houston and Dallas are suberbs. Dallas is at the top of Texas at the Texas/Oklahoma state lines and Houston is down at the Gulf of Mexico. Quite a lot of miles in beteen.

Howdy Mdillow31,

Taint no question that this here gizmo gets stuff to us faster than a speedin' bullet...don't forget now they've drug this ol' cowhand kickin' and screamin' into this whole new century of ours.

But, reckon I was around back in the days of Elvis and the Beetles. They got their fame the old fashioned way too. Just not on one of these here computer gizmos, but on the Ol' Ed Sullivan Show. Yep, that's where both of their show biz careers kicked into high gear. Well, when it comes right down to it, that box we call a TV ain't much different than this thing we call a computer screen. But, ordinarily, you are absolutely right not many of us would have been payin' attention to what went on on a stage somewheres in Scotland. Nope, truth is, most of us got YouTube to thank for that day we first met up with an Angel named Susan. But, twas Susan's performance during those incredible seven minutes that sealed the deal...that captured our hearts...yep...she got her fame the old fashioned way...she earned it. Now, I read your post... and trust me...I still love ya...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Wild Ol Dan,

I agree, I am old enough to remember the Ed Sullivan shows. Back then they thought it was horrible to show Elvis twisting his torso when he sang. I remember they wouldn't show it on TV. Times sure have changed. LOL !

Please forgive me if I have not said any kind comments to Heart shape glasses about their wonderful work. It's really is a nice header.

And to all the others who also put in a lot of effort to the headers, they're wonderful and lets hope they get used some day in rotation. There is a javascript that can randomly select header images so each time you check into the site it will have a different image. It doesn't take much coding to create it.

I am seriously concerned that some members are assuming that Ryan Scott is a co-founder of this site. I couldn't find any concrete evidence of this. He is not an admin, and he didn't join until May 27. His member name is scorptchio. He only posted twice, once on May 27 and once on May 28. He has had no logged activity since then. He has a hotmail account; hotmail accounts are completely anonymous. He also is a member on the fan site http://www.susanboyleweb.com/.

If he has said things privately to you that made you believe that he is co-founder of this site and you have sent him money, please contact the site admin, and I recommend that you contact your state attorney general, as well. Since this is an international site, there may be nothing you can do, but I don't know. If he is a co-founder of this site, he has nothing to worry about by having the authorities look into it, and it may solve the whole mystery of the site ownership.

Lonnirose, What is that you've been trying to do over and over?

I don't know how to find out how many requests have been made for a particular item. I only know about a list of favorites that Susan is not yet on. :{ I'm assuming (possibly erroneously) that anyone from anywhere in the world can request notification from Amazon.com, and leave a comment on the "What artists are you most excited about . . .?" and that all of those requests will be added together for the favorites list.

Teesiel, please take lots and lots of pictures to share!

Just a thought for all of you - I was with another forum (totally unrelated to Susan), and when we posted a link to a news item, we were encouraged to NOT post the entire article, for copyright purposes, we just posted the gist of the article, and the link so that others could look for themselves. I'd hate to see anyone get into hot water for posting an entire article, even with giving full credit to the source and author. Am I wrong to be concerned? That's the main reason I have posted only a link and the general topic of the link.

I'd also like to see a thread devoted exclusively to posting links to news items. It would be easier to see what's new, without having to scroll through a gazillion posts. We could look at the news, and then go to another blog to comment. Just a thought.

BTW, I, too, have signed up with Amazon to be notified when Susan's cd is available. Can't wait to hear what songs she chooses!

OK, I am seriously Boyled up and I feel a rant coming on.

What is with the ubiquitous appellatives... 48 year old, spinster, frumpy, virgin, homely, subo, etc.. I thought I'd heard the last of these names. You would think that a name that is pretty well known to let's say the whole planet, and, that has been googled a gazillion times, would, by now, be permanently and indelibly etched into these people's brains. Oh, but, wait I forgot she's the one with learning disabilities, right????

I just had to vent... I don't exactly get the British Newspaper here, but is this common in the UK?

BethinTHEUSA, thanks for looking Ryan up. I said I would contribute to this fan club but haven't yet because of this very thing. I am not saying Ryan is scamming but i am very leeery of that stuff and there is so much of it especially on the internet.

Casey'sMom, I understand. I think we all have spent a lot of time trying to support Susan through the hell she was put through and also because we just plain love her, many of us are trying to work, going wothout sleep and not eating properly and it wears and tears at us. I know I am tired so if I sound grouchy to anyone on this fan club please fogive me and I will try and get more sleep and I will hopefully come across better. If I don't get enough sleep the world isn't right. And I spent two straight nights staying up sending emails threatening the media for the way they were treating Susan saying I wouldn't support them or buy their sponsors products. So, we all have our issues right now. LOL !

DannyMac: probably a quarter the people living in the center of the US have some Native American blood: my husband is part Cherokee on his father's side. If you start the geometric progression from just one ancestor 150 years ago, you can have a huge family tree after 7 or 8 generations.

To the best I can remember, here is a wee bit of Susannews asked during the day: If there are mistakes, please correct the record!! Susan now has a "bloody fantastic" management team who are hard at work on her behalf -- Ozzie Kilkenny (U2); Simon Cowell, and Kirsty Foy who is Susan's niece, lawyer, and entertainment manager, among others. Once these agreements are complete Simon can move ahead with publishing Susan's debut album. According to her brother, Susan, "A regular rubber ball" of excitement, has convinced the new management team that she is ready to perform on the Live Tour (though there are no details on what her schedule will be or what she will sing.) During this time, she will be staying in Central London with 3 or 4 members of her family and friends; At the moment, Pebbles is still in Blackburn; Susan goes to Prague for 2 weeks in the middle of July and will spend three days recording. Simon is starting to look at the roles of the Fan Groups, though there are few details available.-- There are comments to the effect that the Walmart CDs will be ready for distribution at the end of June, but I haven't found anything really, really confirmed that will happen. Does anyone know for sure?

Boy, I wish all of us could march down the isles of the NEI together and cheer and cheer and cheer! for Susan. For those who make it to Birmmingham , please remember every moment -- and tell us every thing that happened!!! Take pictures!!

I spend a lot of time thinking of songs to go with that one on an album. So far, I have listed in my mind, These Foolish Things, Who's Sorry Now, Blues in the Night, All the Things You Are.

@DannyMac: And the folks in her home town her just thought of her as a karaoke singer. Hello? I just so admire Susan's courage. She literally took her own life in her hands and took her future by the reins and said Giddyup! If she had not done this for herself we would have never heard of her. Susan Boyle = My hero

@pottedfern-- You're not going to believe this but I never look at them. I may pick up the Vogue or Oprah magazine but I've never even opened Enquirer. ... I've seen stuff on the cover like 90 year old gives birth, but never actually looked inside one.

puppet, the media is corrupt. If they can't report the news they make a story up hoping they get ratings and money. There are some good ones but they are few in between. It's all about money. If they think they can make it sensational people will buy it.

Casey'smom: Reckon I done ran out of wisdom...I'm tryin' to keep my cowboy hat from shrinkin' any more...or my head from gettin' bigger...one...

Yep. I've been readin' quite a bit though. We got some mighty fine folks in this here outfit. Mighty fine indeed.

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

I put my name on Amazon's list quite a while back. Now, I'm trying to decide how many I will buy. 2 at least, one for house and one for car. The would make good presents, but i have a feeling all the people who want one will be buying for themselves.

When I think of Susan saying "I owe it to my fans", I get a little weepy thinking how that must feel to her, being able to say "my fans". I bet there are times she still can't believe it.

ITA katladyd, I hate the term "spinster" too. Our Susan will be busy at least for a while touring with BGT, recording her first cd etc. not to mention she'll need some time to get used to her celebrity status. When the time is right, she will have a wonderful man with a beautiful soul who will love and appreciate her for the lovely human being that she is. Like I've said before, IMO, the only man for our Susan is our Tommy...and I'm totally serious. So c'mon everyone, let's figure out a way to make it happen.

@mdillow31 -- Well that's sad. I'd rather they say "Susan Buys Scotland", but calling her spinster and the like has no purpose.
