A new day has begun...
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 31, 2009

We would like to say a BIG thanks to the 20,000+ members who have shown their support to Susan since the fansite launched.

Although Susan was runner-up in the BGT competition, this is definitely just the beginning of her career and not the end..... 'A NEW DAY HAS BEGUN'.

We can't think of a better way to mark this new chapter in Susan's life than for members to create a new header for the fansite.

Thanks to the members who have uploaded their own designs and to Bohemian Spirit for coming up with this great idea, below is only a small selection, click here to see all header designs submitted so far.

All members can join in, either upload you own effort or comment on your favourite so far.

We will give members a week or so to submit their designs and then we will put up a poll so members can vote on their favourite.

great idea . . Dan down the trail also suggested a new vision and new look, so he gets credit too!

THIS SAYS IT ALL:: (just found this)

(CBS) This editorial was written by Chris Matyszczyk, a creative director who advises major corporations on content creation and marketing.

Susan Boyle has always come second in life.

Second in opportunity. Second, according to those who bullied her in her dismal hometown, in intelligence. And second, one suspects, to the needs of others in her family.

By coming in second in "Britain's Got Talent," however, Boyle got some relief from the frivolous flickers of fame that were burning her very being.

She tossed frumpiness aside, choosing instead to wear the dress of the musical lady she always dreamed of being.

Her eyebrows, still tensely clenched for fear of unwarranted attack from some critic, or perhaps some deranged Englishman, told of her determination to stare down her new surroundings.

They told of her fierce need to quiet every shake and shiver that must have coursed through her body all week.

We had heard that she was breaking down, when it was actually us, or those of us who have heads permanently placed just inside the parts we use for sitting, who were doing the breaking.

Journalists goaded her into reaction. Casual bystanders thought they knew, owned her, or at least had every right to either grab her hem or tear it.

The "Daily Mail" reported that psychiatrists had been counseling her all week.

And then she was supposed to go out and win a talent show that, in her heart, she would have rather have watched in her local pub.

She sang "I Dreamed a Dream" with feeling. Many feelings.

She felt that the opportunity to do what she desperately craved would be forthcoming whether she won in the eyes of the sedentary or not.

She felt that she could sing with defiance and a little delight because this new world into which she had been introduced by the perverse power of the Web allowed her to know about the world beyond her own shores and be known there.

She also felt that even if there were some in Britain who wanted to cut her down to size (a finely-tuned British thing to do), there were those all over the world who felt she was the embodiment of all their secret, and even silly, hopes and dreams.

That those in Britain believed the extremely entertaining dance group, Diversity, was better mattered nothing.

Now Susan Boyle can record and perform. She can enchant America and other places on the globe, where people watched an apparently ordinary human being do something that wasn't merely extraordinary, but that felt extraordinary.

Because she made people feel, she can now herself feel at least some joy in being respected, loved and admired.

No one will dwell on the fact that she came second in some mercifully mundane little British talent show.

Everyone will remember that on some day back in 2009, they watched a video on YouTube and they wept.

How about....

HEADER: The World's favorite Talent, Susan Boyle"!

and the Scotish flag behind her picture? Sorry i'm not website savvy. but you get the picture. right?
Posted by MJ from USA on May 31, 2009
OR .....

HEADER: "The World's Beloved Talent, Susan Boyle"

and the Scotish flag behind her picture?

HEADER: Second to None!
Posted by pardonmeboy on May 31, 2009
I just keep thinking of Susan. I hope she had a wonderfully restful day and wish her all the best for her new album. She should enjoy making that as we will enjoy listening to it. I wish Susan could be reunited with her old singing coach, Fred O'Neil. Have any of you heard him sing, very lovely and he seems a nice person. www.fredoneil.com All the best Susan.
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
I dunno, Ryan...or Paul....seems to me that all 3 headers are most excellent and should share the top of this page, side-by-side, perhaps lined up in the shape of an arch across the top of the page.

I also believe that TommyUSA's Tribute to Susan vid with the music and Irish blessing by Roma Downey should somehow be embedded in the home page (so we can hear it), because that's really our purpose here...to show support, offer prayers and best wishes for Susan.
Posted by PIGGIE on May 31, 2009
I like Susan's picture in #3 best. Also not artistically savvy, but I would like to not see ant words that allude to BGT, so anything about "got talent" I'd rather not. Susan is a STAR in her own right now. So just Susan Boyle, Voice of an Angel, or MJ's "World's Beloved Talent." Also agree she needs the Scottish flag, not British flag.
Posted by AZJanet on May 31, 2009
Reaaly agree that the Scottish flag should be in the background to represent her

Thanks, LucyB, for posting that article. Love the last line. [Except for me it was many days in 2009.]
Posted by PIGGIE on May 31, 2009
Noelle, I'd like to disagree about having the music on the homepage. Some of us visit this site at work, and won't be able to do that if music plays automatically.
Posted by Allikat on May 31, 2009
I don't know how to make these 'headers' but it's a great idea. Just so whichever one chosen has a really nice, large picture of Susan, and doesn't mention BGT anywhere.

I like the idea of the site's URL being shown on it just for ease of keeping it straight from other fan sites. Other than that--I'm letting the artistically talented and PC-wise folks here dream up whatever will be most fitting.
Posted by Brooklyn Blessings on May 31, 2009
And somewhere in the banner, the classic line, "I'm among friends, am I not?"
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
the first one rocks
Posted by sabrina6850 on May 31, 2009
pardonmeboy, I have never heard her coach, Fred O'Neill sing. But I like the idea of her being re-united with him. Her best performance was her audition and I'm assuming he was her only coach until she reached the semi-finals. If so, it seems he never interfered with what is her very best quality, singing from her heart.

I love the banners above so far. 'A New Day Has Begun' is an excellent choice for the heading.

She is on her way to fulfill her dream. I remember Simon's question 'And what's the dream darling'? And Susan's response. I'm trying to be a professional singer' .... 'I've never had the chance before, but here's hoping that'll change'.

And change it has ~

@lucyB...GREAT ARTICLE..thanks for posting...LOVE..they will rememeber "they watch youtube and they wept" !!! WOW Ok...now for picking a header and voting for one of the above?? THEY ARE ALL GREAT!!!! It will be hard to vote??? "The Day Susan brought the World to Tears"

I understand, PIGGIE. Maybe there could be an optional button to click on if anyone wishes to hear the blessings for Susan.

Great addition Brooklyn. I loved it when she said that. I was shaking my head yes at home when she did.
Posted by Retired In Flat Broke Kalifornia on May 31, 2009
BRAVO Bohemian Spirit on the banner design! Agree with jfap per Dan down the Trail's comment on "new vision and new look," lets have NOTHING now to do with BGT other than historical fact on this THE AUTHENTIC susan-boyle.com fansite!

One absolutely important request for all us very soon formerly poor as Susan dial-up folks PLEASE NO FLASH MEDIA imbeds on the title, keep things "clean as Google" on extraenous motion graphics PLEASE, PRETTTTTTY PLEASE, PLEASE.

Will talk more, need to get back to work in the yard.
Posted by RubyRose on May 31, 2009
These are all very nice, but Susan's Got Talent refers to BGT, in a way. Let's get away from that. And I agree, the Scottish flag would be more appropriate. Great work, everyone!
Posted by YourAwesome on May 31, 2009
Now we have to vote for our friends "HEADER" ...I can't stand the stress!!! HELP!! lol
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
Just a question. I have heard two reports about when she was going to Prague to record. On Fox last night they said this week. On CNN they said July. Has anyone heard the real deal?
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
Instead of a flag, because Susan really is global now, how about a Celtic Knot to show her origins?
Posted by Allikat on May 31, 2009
MJ--what do you mean, she's "been annointed an Icon now"--I don't understand? Would love to learn more about that!
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
I like all three headers. Wonder if a Scotch flag and a picture of a globe of the world could be added somewhere to show Susan has captured the heart of the world ??
Posted by MJ from USA on May 31, 2009
OR ....

HEADER : "The Woman that Brought the World To Tears: Susan Boyle"

and the Scottish flag in the background?

Posted by Bobber2 on May 31, 2009
How about this as a header... "Isn't Beauty In The Eye Of The Beholder ??" A famous question to which all answer well yes I guess it most certainly is : ) Certainly better then Don't Judge A Book By Its Cover....you were asuming that there is something wrong with the cover.
Posted by AZJanet on May 31, 2009
Here's the comment from last blog by Wild Ol Dan (sorry I referred to you as Dan down the trail earlier)regarding the new website header suggestion:

Well, as to the banner on our Fan Club site...to my way of thinkin' this isn't about Britain's Got Talent anymore...nope...it's about Susan. So...perhaps a banner showing her on stage with one of those wonderful backgrounds would be a start...It obviously should remain the OFFICIAL SUSAN BOYLE FANS SITE...with, maybe, a British flag in the background...but maybe too a picture of the world she has conquered. "Never judge a book by it's cover" needs to go because...well...shucks...the cover looks mighty fine to me. TOUCHING THE HEART OF THE ENTIRE WORLD might be something to consider. Or...DREAMS DO COME TRUE! With a little imagination I think we could put the focus on Susan where it belongs...in the months and years ahead this fansite is gonna continue to grow as Susan's star continues to shine throughout the world.

Just some ideas. Remember, she is a world wide star... known and beloved throughout the world.

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Wild Ol' Dan

I am not too crazy about any of the choices, sorry to say though I understand where you are going with this. I like the new site features on the main page though. That is a great addition.
Posted by Lonnirose on May 31, 2009
They're all wonderful, but on the last banner it should read The Sky's The Limit, not the Skies The Limit. Just an observation, not a criticism. I agree that we need to get rid of all BGT stuff and celebrate our Susan and her tremendous talent, showing her lovely face.

I LOVE the Celtic knot idea, Noelle! Since Susan IS Irish but was born and lives in Scotland, the knot takes both into consideration! Above all else she IS a Celt, and we all know that Celts SING!

Only wish I knew how to make one of these headers, but I don't.
Posted by Frits C on May 31, 2009
In agreement with many comments made already, I see it like this: not winning this competition has made you, Susan even more known, more appreciated, and more celebrated. You have shown the strength to windstand enormous pressure and performed even better than before. You have shown great humility, and dignity in honouring the winners in simple, honest, wholehearted words of appreciation. You have the qualities to become a legend in performing on the world stage for many years to come. Dear Susan, take very good care of your health, with regular ayurvedic treatments at the world's top institutions that take care of both body and mind aspects, like 'The Raj Ayurveda Health Spa' in USA, and the 'Maharishi Ayurveda Gesundheitszentrum' in Bad Ems, Germany, where you can receive the knowledge to live a long and healthy life and the care to keep your physiology in top condition. In my opnion, keeping yourself perfectly healthy is for you the only thing to worry about. All the rest that is needed to live life 'on top of the world' is already fully in your command, and will serve you perfectly well throughout the rest of your precious life. You are a star that shines brightly. May you radiate the natural happiness that you possess for many, many years to come. Taking good care of your health is the key to your future success! Congratulations and wishing you the very best.

Noelle, in just those few words you sunk my heart. This article or the words as typed were also beautiful. They ought to put that in a frame for her. I am so amazed at the talented commenters on this website both in written and video presentations. I am one of the ones who sat up all nite and the day of her performance posting soapy emotional comments here. It was may way of letting out my frustrations from all the media hype that had besiged Susan the last 10 days before her last performance. She said she would to her very best and that she did. She sung her song and it was perfect and she brought down the house one more time. We, as fans, could not have asked for more. She has regained her self respect and can walk with her head uphigh now. She does not need the first place trophy, I agree.

Or another thought....How about WORLD ROCKER BOYLE ...based on the thought that in her first audition she stated that "Im going to make that audience rock" Little did she know that she'd ROCK THE WORLD AS WELL...got a ring to it don't ya think ? World Rocker Boyle ;-)
Posted by MJ from USA on May 31, 2009
@Allikat .... Icon as in Judy Garland, James Dean, Barbra Streisand, Marilyn Monroe, etc... it's a status and a great one. It's not easy being called an Icon. You have to have done something extraordinary. Susan Boyle is an Icon. She achieved something greatness in the entertainment industry. that's a WOW FACTOR.
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
High 5's, ALLIKAT! That's what I was thinking. A Celtic Knot takes both into consideration! LOL!

Oh, I wish I knew how to make one of those headers, too. (sighs...moans)

SCOTTISH FLAG...YES
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
I think something about capturing the heart of the world out definitely something showing a globe of the world to show Susan belongs to fans all over the planet because Susan now has fans from most countries in the world. It should be global I think.
Posted by Bobber2 on May 31, 2009
How about this....Forget about the Rolling Stones....they're mere pebbles next to her! [pun on the fact that her cat is named Pebbles as well : )
Posted by GritsT on May 31, 2009
If you end up using the one that says "The Skies The Limit" for the nw header -- It should read The Sky's the Limit" (sky's being short for sky is).
Posted by protectsusan on May 31, 2009
I love, love, love the article. Yes, I cried as I read it. A new header is definitely in order. I like the third picture the best. And definitely get rid of the British flag and BTG logo. They did introduce her to us but.....She is a world phenomena now. She belongs to all of us. Logo? Susan Brings Hope to Us All 0r Susan Touches the Heart of the World or Susan Touches the Soul of the World
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
Could a small thing of Pebbles be added to the banner some way ??

Alikat, bring it up to Tommy, he can probably do it the way you would like. I keep thinking about what Ammanda Holden said to Susan right after her performance. And, that was "YOU DID IT FOR SCOTLAND, YOU DID IT FOR GREAT BRITIAN". She probably should have added Ireland, and the world, too
Posted by silverfox1959 on May 31, 2009
A new day has definitely begun for Susan. She has never been second in my eyes but already a winner from the first time I saw that clip on youtube.BGT is now history, and the sky is the limit for this special lady.I await her debut CD,and I just LOVE the idea with the headers.I look forward to vote on one.ROCK ON SUSAN!!..JTG..Decatur,Ga.USA

Posted by IvoryMist on May 31, 2009
I like TommyUSA's because he has both the website and "A New Day Has Begun". However, in the middle I would put a Scotland flag, then a large picture of Susan, then another Scotland flag.

The flag of Scotland features a white X-shaped cross representing the cross of the Christian martyr Saint Andrew (Scotland's patron saint) on a blue field

According to Ancient and Heraldic traditions much symbolism is associated with colors. The colors on the Scottish flag represent the following:

White - peace and honesty

Blue - vigilance, truth and loyalty, perseverance & justice

Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
BTW, Paul or Ryan, whoever created this "New Day has Begun" blog, excellent writing. I love it!
Posted by tweek on May 31, 2009
Mdillow31 I thank you for your email...did you get the one I sent back. Yours is the only one that may have disappeared on me. Great idea to put pebbles on the banner. Especially, since he got brought up in both the audition and the final.

It looks like the news media is waking up and I hope they are remorse and they actually should apologize to Susan.

The main thing, is Susan has her self respect and can be very proud of herself.
Posted by Brooklyn Blessings on May 31, 2009
Susan is known worldwide for being a Scottish singer dreaming a dream, so we should highlight those points in either graphics or words...and that a new day has begun. And, don't forget, "I'm among friends, am I not?" -- perfect for a fan site.
Posted by GritsT on May 31, 2009
I think she will always be connected to "I Dreamed a Dream" -- maybe her fan website should be for those who want to "Follow Susan's Dream."
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
LOL w/YOURAWESOME! Susan may be Celtic but there's no knot in those red knickers when it comes to doing her best...(this may be just another of my brain-you-know-whats)

@Brooklyn Blessings... i agree.
Posted by Patricia's Art on May 31, 2009
Whatever the banner ( I posted mine only as an example, its not professionally done) , I think it should be forward looking. Nothing about the past. No defending her against tabloid trash. Lets just forget all that now . Just clear our minds of all that and start over .Think about about Susan and her talent. This is her fansite so just pretend we just her her sing for the first time,no BGT,no tabloids. Just Susan and her voice. And then go from there.
Posted by JennyZ on May 31, 2009
I like the 2nd one and the 4th one. Pebble's on banner is also good. Still there are hate comments on you tube. How could people hate someone who didn't hurt others.

Susan Lives the Dream She Dreamed!
Posted by sockmonkey on May 31, 2009
Thanks for working on those banners - I like them all. I think I prefer the picture in #3, but the layout/phrases in #1. I definitely think adding a Celtic knot and the phrase "I am among friends am I not" would be brilliant. I think keeping it simple is best though.

I've also thought it would be great to reunite Susan with her former voice coach. He spoke up for Susan in the early days of the heady rush, and he obviously thinks highly of her. Here's the article that I'm referring to: http://www.independent.co.uk/arts-entertainment/music/news/dont-lose-the-tune-warns-man-who-taught-susan-boyle-to-sing-1671687.html

@Patricia I like yours...my big thing is how do I vote for my friends Banner/Header...!!!??? HELP..STRESS!!
Posted by Patricia's Art on May 31, 2009
I hate Never Judge a Book By Its Cover .it just brings up too many bad memories! Plus I love Susan's face! Its so unjust all this stuff about her. I abhor it. We should just leave it behind,we have to embrace the future. She herself said it, the shy's the limit, and a brand new day has begun.
Posted by canukwendy on May 31, 2009
I like the last banner best.. the fact that the pic of Susan on her first performance is included; that face - the pure joy in her singing .. singing a song to make her Mum proud .. and following her dream is the "Susan" I will always remember .. so, I love that picture.. it says everything about her.. what I think most people fell in love with.. just my 2 cents!

Suggestions for main page header:

1. The Scottish flag has to be there. 2. Susan Boyle - I dreamed the dream (but also several good other suggestions above) 3. And somewhere in the banner, the classic line, "I'm among friends, am I not?" True class was that statement from Susan. She is smarter than the judges.

IvoryMist--you are so right! 'Simple' as in one really great picture, one caption (not overly long) and the fan site URL, maybe. I do like the Scottish flag and Celtic knot idea but 'busy' isn't going to look so great. 'Busy' on a fan site header looks kinda--trashy, for lack of a better word.

If this fan site becomes 'official' then not the current URL after all, but just the 'official' name of it would work. That plus a really great caption (in few words) plus a wonderful large picture...

MJ--lol--I know what an 'icon' is but I wondered who 'officially' has now made Susan one--sorry I didn't specify what I meant better.
Posted by IvoryMist on May 31, 2009
Here are some quotes from her former coach Fred O'Neil

" "Susan is a woman you can sit down with and have a very intelligent conversation. She is one person with whom I can say about my own act 'do you think that song should be dropped?' or 'is that working?' She is one person whose judgement you can really trust." He said the much-reported mild brain damage she sustained during birth barely affected her daily life. "She is being portrayed as being lucky but she is someone who is not just a talented woman but she has a real intelligence. She may have had the problem when she was born but it does not affect her 99 per cent of the time. "She is surrounded by PR people and you are not seeing the real person behind this. She is a sensitive woman. She knows what she is doing with a song. I feel bound to dispel this view of her as some hapless, lucky person who was born with this extraordinary voice."

Wonderful, great ideas! Celtic knot, and Sky's the Limit, and the idea, that our Susan captured the heart of the world, and of course, get rid of bgt logo, and the British flag(I wanted to write, actually, brutish). Thank you so much, all the talented members of our site, who suggested all this, and offered the designs.I wish I knew how to make those headers! When I think about it, it seems, that the 2nd place is a blessing in disguise - look, what the newspapers are writing about it - it is clear, that all the world thinks, that something atrocious has happened with the results of the bgt finals, and Susan became even more popular, even more loved and admired everywhere. One of the headings I have seen is:Diversity can't escape Boyle! So, nobody is interested in Diversity, and everybody continues to think about Susan as the winner of bgt.

All look good, however, I seem to be partial to #4 and my fav pic is #3. One of the best pics ever of Susan, is the one where she's holding a bottle of something...the driver was on his route, stopped to say hi and handed Susan a bottle...she looks GREAT in that pic. That would be nice in the header also. I also agree with the other comments about not making reference to BGT...besides, the world already knows our Susan has talent. Thanks for all you do webmasters and contributors. This site is not only informative but pleasant to visit.

I saw a picture of Susan Boyle in the (Daily Mail ) with a huge bouquet of flowers...where these from Susan Boyle Fan Site? Lovely picture. I notice large favorable newspaper articles on Susan Boyle here in the USA and one sentence on the winners. We love Susan Boyle.

All the above get my vote. Thank you for keeping website going.

Well 'they' are certainly the experts, aren't they, MJ? Thank you--and a HUGE lol from me, here!

I'll go along with 'whatever', banner-wise. If lots of folks make and submit them, we'll all have plenty to choose from.

Thanks Patriciasart, when I submitted it I wrote that it was a rough draft of what I thought it should look like. I'm not a designer so I just picked pictures I just love of Susan. I was going to put one of Pebbles in there so I could do that...lol

Did anyone go to the website to listen to Susan's phone interview...just hearing her laughing again made my day!!! It's from her hometown newspaper.

#4 by SunnyinDelaware represents Susan's life, her Dreaming the Dream.... and now a New Day Has Begun. I'm so glad you will continue the site, 'cause we will still need our daily "Susan Fix"......Did you send the roses? Not only do I want a CD, but also a DVD so we can continue to enjoy her wonderful humor, her wiggles and giggles and adorable smile.
Posted by JRH2063 on May 31, 2009
I like version 4, but can you put a Scottish flag in there please somewhere and also put in Susans's classic quote in "I'm among friends, am I not?"
Posted by lildinks on May 31, 2009
oh wait i changed my mind i agree with ivorymist of her suggestion abotu the scottish flag and its meaning. wow i didnt know that. how proper and fitting. thanks for bringing that to our attention ivory
Posted by DannyMac on May 31, 2009
I like A New Day has Begun. would like Scottish flag. I like that TommyUSA included the picture from semifinals. No reference to appearance please. I don't really like the "I'm Among Friends, am I not". The reason being, I thought she was being a little cynical and sarcastic when she said that (and I was glad) . Am I not? Isn't that classy? Who of us over here ever says," am I not". I might have said, "Y'all all my friends, aintcha?"

What do you all think after everyone has submitted their work, showing them to Susan, or at least the top three, and asking what she likes? She knows we exist. Apparently her family has some involvement here. She might like our doing that. Opinions?

I just love mingling on here with all you artistic, talented people. I can't do any of it, but am always ready to put in my opinion.
Posted by Wild Ol' Dan on May 31, 2009
Howdy Pards,

I love 'em all, and thanks for all the creative energy that's goin' into this! For me number 4 stands out with a touch of class! I do think that somethin' representin' Susan's routes, like the Scottish flag, or the Celtic Knot is needed. And, obviously we don't want all that black space at the top and bottom...maybe a view of the world from space with the words "Capturing the hearts of the world" or "Touching the hearts of the world".

But...as I say all of 'em look mighty fine...we're headed in the right direction pards...yessir..."A new day has begun!"

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

I have an idea for a banner..make this one for me please!

On the left the best face picture you can find of Susan, then "A New Day Has Begun...." in script writing. Put this on a medium blue background.

That's it!

@Patricia...Lets "LET SUSAN CHOOSE" ...the one she likes best..so you might want to get yours changed.. That was my earlier idea...

SUNNYINDELAWARE, I did indeed go back and listen to that phone conversation with Susan and the Courier. For some reason, I can understand more of what she's saying this time. She is delightful to hear when she's happy and she sounded thrilled!

Yes, I agree DANNYMAC and YOURAWESOME, Susan should choose the banner for her Fan Site. She hasn't had the chance to choose much for herself since her audition and deserves that right.

Today, Piers Morgan's final blog on BGT's Web site is mainly about Susan Boyle. He counters the fallacious idea that not winning the BGT competition meant that Susan's dream ended.

In his words, "I was incredibly proud of Susan last night, and was bemused to wake up to the headlines all screaming ‘END OF THE DREAM’ this morning.

Susan’s dream was not to win a talent show. It was to have a professional singing career.

And now she’s going to have one. I predict she will have a huge selling album out in a few months, and more to follow.

Britain’s Got Talent has been a rollercoaster ride for her, but it has also allowed her to live, and realise, her dream.

Coming second may just be the best thing that ever happens to her. She can now focus on recording an album without all the added pressure and attention she would have got for winning the show."

The entire blog can be seen at http://talent.itv.com/news/story/item_100227.htm
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
If Susan could be contacted it would be nice to let her choose since this is her fan club and she knows there are 20,000 fans here supporting her but I still think a globe and Pebbles would please Susan. :)

I think we will end up blending some of this. I like Wild Ol Dan's suggesting Capturing the hearts of the world. But A New Day Has Begun definitely has to be there. But Yes, yes, let's let Susan choose.

Paul, when are you telling us how to contribute for the roses. I'm getting antsy. We can't let anyone get ahead of us in paying tribute to Lady Susan.

You're right DannyMac. "Am I not?" is definitely a classy way to put it. Susan used the phrase on purpose to emphasize the irony and express her contempt for her detractors' hypocrisy. Did you notice the falsely naive face she put on then? This tells a lot about her fine intelligence doesn't it?

I fervently hope Susan Boyle keeps on going from this beginning she's made -- and I'm so glad I have had the chance to hear her powerful, beautiful voice, even if only on YouTube. I will absolutely buy her first CD and intend to follow her career, which is something I virtually never do. I think the banner display needs to feature Susan herself; she's the one with the fantastic gift. I like #1 banner idea pretty well.

Please, Susan...keep on singing and cut a record so I can buy it and listen to it. You nearly bring me to tears. Your voice and your courage are awesome!

Howdy Pards,

Well now ya know what would make the home page of our official Susan Boyle Fan's site mighty special indeed?

A message from Susan to all her fans! Below the banner that we are puttin' together...and I think it's a wonderful idea to let Susan pick the winner...should be a box with Susan's picture (her wonderful smile) and a brief personal message to her fans. What a joy that would be!

Now, I've heard tell that she has some relatives in charge of this here outfit, so maybe...just maybe...that's a real, honest-to-gosh, possibility! To my way of thinkin' nuthin' brighten's up a page, a room, or the world like Susan's wonderful smile. Nope. Nuthin'!

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

What power this enchanting woman has. For the second day, I have spent a great deal of it thinking of Susan Boyle. Are there any reports on her doings? Did she go to dinner with Piers? Did she head back to Scotland?

As to the new fansite logo, the soooner the banner the better...Looking at anything to do with BGT is wearing on my nerves. It is all Susan's show now. There are good points to all the banners. I like the photo on header 3, featuring Susan's lovely smile. Yes on 'A New Day Has Begun'. Roger on the celtic knot and Pebbles, Scottish flag (or does the lady have a family tartan?) and globe. I think a thistle, full of symbolism in Scotland, would also be a nice touch. Cheers !

The Celtic Knot's significance (other than identifying Celtic Origins) - the intricacy capable in the work of humans, itself reflective of the intricacy of Natural forms.

Are not Susan's talents intricate/complex and she herself intricacy personified?

GritsT---thanx for the link to the dailymail---that article is snarky, snide, and insulting and the writer is quite happy to be putting everything said about Susan in a very negative light. This is NOT the article to read to lift you spirits!!
Posted by Patti Lu on May 31, 2009
Susan has touched many lives and hearts. I know she's touched mine. Thanks to the internet and YouTube even those of us in the middle of the United States (Nebraska) have had a chance to see, hear and embrace her. I'm thankful that you shared her with us and the rest of the world.

Someone posted that in a year from now the dance troupe that won BGT will not be mentioned (I can't even remember their name, nor did I ever see them perform). But, yes, Susan will go on. I intend to be one of the first in my community to buy her CD once it's released here in America. And if she comes to tour here in the States, you can bet I'll be buying a ticket. Susan has definitely 'rocked my world'.

BTW, I love banner #4. It depicts her life from the time she began her dream to the time that she's finally going to be able to realize her dream.

Susan, stay true to yourself and all that you hold dear. You can always count on your fan. I apologize for the behavior of those that have caused you pain.

Don't you think it is all very strange that we all seem to try and reassure ourselves about it? Don't we all feel thet something really weird is going on. How is it for example that her family is not allowed to see her? I'm beginning to think she should give ervrything up altogether. This is destroying her. The dream is definitely becoming a nightmare.

Kudos on points patriciasart about what SUSAN wants; one CD - even just ONE more song - would "make my day" that much more bearable. I well-up teary-eyed when I think about Susan singling the last two stanzas of "Memory," absolutely sends chills down my spine seeing her on that stage with the "Jesus Light" behind her - absolutely potent Christian imagery, and I've not attended mass in 37 years no less!

Wow. I wake up to find all kinds of positive comments in my inbox, and a new blog post featuring our banner ideas! Thanks, everyone, and thanks, Paul!

Regarding my own banner, I just want to remind everyone (as patriciasart said re: her own design) that I submitted this as a first step. I really liked the screencap I chose for the picture--beautiful, happy, triumphant, and strong--but there are many good pictures that could be used.

As for text, the text can easily be changed, or added to. I did have in mind to include the URL susan-boyle.com in the lower right corner; I left space for that, or for the magnify logo if we need to include that.

"Susan's Got Talent" was just my first thought for a title as I put this together in the middle of the night. I suggest we vote mainly on the designs here, and THEN discuss changes to the text, what kind of title for the site, etc. I do agree with others who said that it's time to retire "never judge a book by its cover." Whatever we choose, I want it to be wholly positive and affirming!

Really like the idea of "I'm among friends, am I not?" but how about we shorten it and incorporate it (maybe) into the title: "Susan Boyle: Among Friends" Do people like that better than "Susan's Got Talent"? I kinda like it myself, now that I see it... ;-)

Anyway, so glad to wake up to a post filled with creative response to the commencement of Susan's singing career!
Posted by calford on May 31, 2009
I am concerned as to Susan's well-being also....I am not happy with the idea of Sony BMG taking over and not allowing her to be with family - don't like the idea of having to tour with BGT (a total waste of her time)- not happy that Simon wants to rush her into the album....I only hope Susan gets feisty and tells them what SHE wants! What SHE wants is all that matters to her and to all of us!
Posted by QM on May 31, 2009
I was thinking of Susan's comment that she didn't want to be considered worthless anymore..... we need a header for her that says:

"PRICELESS"
Posted by Bohemian Spirit on May 31, 2009
Oh, let me just add that I wasn't the one who came up with the idea for a new header. I saw discussion in the previous blog and got inspired to create! So the thanks really go to the people who started the brainstorming. ;-)

Bohemian Spirit: your in the bosom of safety here among us "Boyle Babies," things are TOO nasty in cyberspace right now even for me to do serious commentary & news hunting about Susan. Important thing remains: watch the susan-boyle.com member-meter, if it continues to grow then her fan base will remain, even with drop-off as all fan sites do eventually.

BTW, do hope the Administrator puts up stats on how this site is doing so far in term of hits etc., better still, how it compares to other celebrity sites. Bear in mind near almost all of us didn't know Susan even existed, its just been over a month since she'd EXPLODED on the scene.

@mdillow...Susan is the Queen of her castle and we are lowly servants...so if she chooses to do only one CD...we the lowly servants WILL be Happy!!! lol

The article above that I copied/pasted said Susan has no computer. How can we let her know she has a loyal, caring fan group? Agree, it would be great if she could give us a comment for our site.

BTW: The susan-boyle.com membership count is 20,655 - 1,500 more than this time yesterday plus-minus couple or dozen. In the one minute it took me to write this one more "Boylie" entered the fold...

I hope the fan base continues to grow as it is such a comfort to come here with honest, regular people who love Susan and have no malice whatsoever in their hearts toward her. This group is extraordinary and the only place I go for "therapy" against these unfortunate happenings to our girl!

About the negative 'stories' now being printed up in the tabloids--take it all with a grain of salt, and 'consider the source'.

That being said--I've watched and listened to Susan in all her interviews since this whole thing began, and it appears that she may not have exactly the greatest 'impulse control' known to mankind. I only hope that someone she cares for and fully trusts can be with her during the tour, and also during her jaunt over to Prague.

Susan NEEDS a full-time PA, someone who can provide a proper shield from any cr*pola for her, someone who can act as a bit of a 'lay therapist' for times she needs to get something off her chest, and someone who can above all provide her with an ongoing feeling of support and comfort. Basically, someone to take away as much of the 'craziness' as possible which always comes with touring, transcontinental travel, etc.

I'm hereby applying for that job; no 'salary' required other than for personal expenses. :-)

Posted by ca0911 on May 31, 2009
I couldn't begin to design anything but I do like "I am among friends, am I not?" (remembering her quote to Larry King that she will never be lonely again) and I also think " a new day has begun" is most certainly an appropriate theme. I have never blogged or commented or any such until Susan Boyle and most likely will not again, but I am so glad the site will continue..........I read the comments daily.

i just watched what simplesimon said to Susan after her final performance and i thought it was very patronising for a man who is going to reap many $$$ from Susan, It was disgusting and don't anyboddy try to tell me that simon has her best intrests at heart is the intrest in his pocketbook!!! but from the look on Susan's face I think she saw through him

I would like very much for us to remove the Britains Got Talent title, I think we should move on from that program, a proper bright begining without the shadow of BGT

I WAS THINKING SUSAN HAS NEVER BEEN KISSED (MUCH), SO WE COULD PUT A BACKROUND OF HERSHEY KISSES, BUT IT'S A SILLY IDEA!
Posted by PIGGIE on May 31, 2009
May I just put in a request for the banner pictures? These are all great, but whatever is chosen, can we please keep the little photo of her singing at her first audition? That's the Susan we all first fell in love with, the one who made us weep. Maybe Susan thought she needed "tidying up" (her words in an interview) but there is something so endearing about her original persona, before she got more "packaged." I would very much appreciate if you'd take this request under consideration.
Posted by YourAwesome on May 31, 2009
ALLI ..great!!! I hope the family will consider your offer!! :)
Posted by Lonnirose on May 31, 2009
You're right, Allikat. And she needs somebody to kick major butt when needed, too. I wish I'd been there when someone insulted her! My main concern, except for Susan being cheated, is that she was hurt - I can't bear knowing that. From her expression on the final, looked to me like she was mad as a hornet at all of them - not that I blame her - and was totally disillusioned with the whole thing. I wish she knew how many millions of people love and support her.
Posted by songbirdwatcher on May 31, 2009
HER FAMILY MAY VERY WELL KNOW WHERE SUSAN IS, BUT THEY DON'T WANT TO BE HARRASED EITHER.
Posted by ndcoop on May 31, 2009
thanks for the insight allikat.... I'm hoping they are starting to "get it" now, if the underlying part is true. I think you are dead on with your insight.

I can't understand how you can go on chatting quietly about the new site as if everything was perfectly alright with Susan. I am beginning to wonder who is supposed to benefit from the so called "feel good factor": Susan or her fans? If that means refusing to see reality in the face, then I might as well quit. I was worried from the start and each step in this story confirms my fears. God knows how much I would like to be mistaken. The trouble is I'm not at all being influenced by the gutter press. I only had to watch Susan to see her behaviour develop from mere eccentricity and good humour to disquietingly inappropriate antics. Gosh! I had turned to this site to share this wonderful adventure with you all but I can't go on, knowing Susan is not well at all and in some way I took part in the process of destroying her.
Posted by inspiredbysusan on May 31, 2009
Noelle, we can stop posting tabloid links but i think the overwhelming concern here is that if any of it is true (about her family not being able to get in touch with her or knowing where she is) then we really need to be worried and something needs to be done to help her. I'm very concerned about her emotional state. Sorry if that bothers you.

I think we should remove Britains Got Talent ASAP....and try out the banners...a different one each day. Have them numbered in the corner, and we can vote the one we want by the number and we won't know who made it until the winner is announced.

i hope Susan takes a deep breath, goes home to Blackburn, hugs Pebbles, goes to the pub and visits with her friends and family and put the nightmare of the last week aside!!!!
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
If I offended anyone by suggesting "not a flag, but rather a Celtic Knot" way back up there in a small post I made, I apologize, but I'd also like to explain my reasoning.

Susan is Global now. Everyone who's ever heard of her knows she's from Scotland and appeared on BGT and probably that she's Irish, too. The Celtic Knot not only depicts both her Scots and Irish heritage but also exemplifies the intricacy capable in the work of humans, itself reflective of the intricacy of Natural forms. But there's more.

By uniting almost everyone in the whole world on one thing, Susan has accomplished something no world power has ever done. Susan has surpassed her dream of being a professional singer and brought a sense of unity into the world...of oneness, if you will. Sure, it's just over one thing, but it's a beginning.

Susan has crossed beyond borders to reach the hearts of most everyone in the world, so her accomplishment isn't about flags and borders. It's about reaching out and touching the very cores of people everywhere. We all have dreams or have had dreams. Susan has brought to us the sure knowledge that we can fulfill our dreams, too.

Some of us will live a fulfillment of our dreams vicariously through Susan, while others will have the courage to dust off our forgotten dreams and get out there and go to the finish line like Susan did. It's many people's dreams to "live the dream life" wherever we consider that to be. Susan will live her version of whatever happy life she wants for herself, whether it be to continue on recording and concerts, etc. or to just record one or a few CD's then head back to Blackburn and buy her home.

Do yall think if everyone in the world were living their dream life, and were happy doing so, surrounded by love and happy with where they were and what they were doing, there just might be a chance for world peace?

Just a suggestion....some things to consider.

@YourAwesome, Just came from Yahoo News. One report says Susan will earn millions of pounds by the end of the year and 5 wanting to buy rights to make a movie on Susan's life. Our dear Susan is going to be a millonaire and get to buy the home she has always wanted to buy. And.. she is going on a tour and getting out a CD shortly. YAHOO FOR SUSAN !!

Posted by sassyone on May 31, 2009
I have an idea. What if we as a group, knit her a love blanket. We can all knit 6x6 square, and crochet them together, in a month or so when she's done the BGT tour. It can be mailed to her and she will have something to hold knowing that we all cheered for her and love her.

If this works out I can collect all the squares, put them together. Take photos of the completed blanket then we can all send a personal message that way and send it off.

Dorina, From Victoria BC Canada.

I vote for 4 or 5--Love the varied photos in both, prefer the blocky font in #5. "Susan's got talent" in 1,2,3 doesn't begin to express the strength of that voice and personality.

Latest news: Britain's Got Talent runner up Susan Boyle was admitted to The Priory clinic last night suffering with exhaustion.

Police were summoned to her hotel and the singer was assessed under the Mental Health Act after she had an 'emotional breakdown' following her shock defeat in the show's final.

What a complete disgrace on behalf of the show organisers. Poor Susan

InspiredbySusan, I'm not the only one here that doesn't like to give credence to the scandal rags. Since her family runs this Fan site, I'm sure that were there any serious concern as to Susan's whereabouts, we'd hear about it first.

I'm thinking also that the tabloids are merely beating the drums/shaking their tambourines in an attempt to LOCATE Susan themselves, because she's not been available for them to hound, because those close to her are keeping her out of the slimelight.

Am taking your points seriously HAPPY, believe your a susan-boyle.com member because you - I care - about her.

Don't know if her folks were in the U.K. during World War II but if they were THEY'RE made of "stearner stuff" and Susan being their child HAS to have "the stuff" if noting more that love & appreciation of them, witness her staying with her mom to the very end. I live with parents almost as old as Susan's were, MY nerves are worse than her's so I'll cut her enough slack to get her to the moon & back if need be, to the Andromeda galaxy if indeed can and does know that "she's got people" behind her!

All of the banners look great to me. As long as they're not BGT.

The following is posted on the Drudge Report:

"SUN: Susan Boyle being admitted to The Priory clinic... Developing... "

http://drudgereport.com/

I have read the Daily Mail & Daily Star articles cited above. I don't know which if any of these publications are total rag sheets. But I an starting to fear that Susan's lasting legacy is going to be as an example to others, to be careful what you wish for. None of this is any good.
Posted by Susan43212 on May 31, 2009
I love the many faces of Susan Boyle in banner no. 4. I also like "I Dreamed a Dream" (which will forever be linked to Susan). And "A New Day Has Begun...." on the banner. I'm sure there will be more wonderful banners but for now No. 4 is my favorite. On another note, I had to laugh at The Sky's the Limit (my member name). I knew there was an apostrophe after the y but I could not get a special character in the name. This fan website is great! I feel as if I am among friends and family who love Susan Boyle as much as I do. Thank you for all the positive postings about Susan.
Posted by ndcoop on May 31, 2009
It is only my OPINION that Susan may suffer from some sort of anxiety disorder (or something of that nature). I am just guessing based on some non-professional experience.
Posted by Patricia's Art on May 31, 2009

WHAT?? I was posting..is there an article about Susan?? IS IT TRUE?? Oh my..
Posted by songbirdwatcher on May 31, 2009
I REALLY LIKE THE WORDS "PRICELESS", LIKE WAS SUGGESTED ABOVE.
Posted by Allikat on May 31, 2009
It was my understanding that four family members HAD been flown in, actually by Simon Cowell, just to be with Susan after the show. I hardly think it'd be reported where they are, etc.

It's just that a trusted family member who CAN cope with all the nonsense, or a good PA who is agreeable to Susan herself, does need to be with Susan during any touring, travel, recording time, and at interviews. That business can all become quite toxic for a sensitive soul.

I am truly fearful of things which could happen if Susan's family doesn't get VERY serious about this quickly, and either appoint or hire someone suitable. I'm only half-kidding when I offer myself up for the job. It should NOT be done by anyone who is in it 'just for the money'.

Oh--I kinda like entry #5, even though it has 3 pics on it. Exactly which 3 pics could always be changed. Guess I'd like to see "A New Day Has Begun" at the top though, and Susan-Boyle.com at the bottom...

Definitely the fan site name should be on, and so far I like "A New Day Has Begun" better than the other suggestions. It's so appropriate, and it's also a line from "Memory" which is supposedly one of Susan's favourite songs.

Any way to get this 'settled' as to a FEW, by Tuesday early, and somehow get Susan positioned in front of a laptop computer which could be brought to the Happy Valley Pub where the celebration will be in full swing so that she can look at the choices and pick for herself? I don't think she is to be in Blackburn for long--just 2-3 days.
Posted by ndcoop on May 31, 2009
one thing I can almost guarantee you, this was NOT because she took 2nd place! That is what I meant by spinning this negatively. Stress is a powerful trigger for a whole range of disorders. Where is allikat?
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
NDCOOP, this latest news about Susan being in the Priory Clinic came after I made that post and it came from a respectable media source is my understanding.

Yes, I agree, Allikat and Tweek and LEM and several others that I can't bring to mind right now are very helpful where getting true information is concerned.

ok, I'm going to say this.... I think she may suffer a psychological disturbance of some sort.... the stigma attached to it is why I am reluctant. It is no fault of the sufferer, it just IS. So many people misunderstand abnormal behavior, that sufferers usually are made worse by those who FAIL to understand it well enough. Flame away.
Posted by Patricia's Art on May 31, 2009
She looks so unhappy under all those flowers. What is wrong with those people! Why is she so unhappy. In one week her whole world is upside down. Last week we were all happy for her and now she is in the hospital with a breakdown. This is tragic.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 31, 2009
Her grother Gerry has gone on record over the past weeks, at times urging her to leave the competition & just go record. At the time some of us thought he wass being self-serving ,i.e. wanted her to get out there & start makin moolah. But maybe he had an idea what this kind of stress might do to her.

He did say in an interview i saw recently that this busines 'is not just about singing', i.e. there is touring, media pressure, etc. Before you choose a line of work, you have to determine whether you're temperamentally suited to it. all the ability or talent in the world doesn't help if your're not temperamentally suited to the job.
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
The Sun, Daily Mail and Daily Star are tabloids. They lie. They lied all week. Think about the order of things. Anyone who watched the whole thing from the end of the show on ITV1, to the voting period on ITV2, back to the awards show on ITV1 knows the timing of these reports does not make sense. Susan sang...sang well. Interviewed after her song. Left stage smiling. During the voting period she stood with all 10 participants. When her time came up they asked why people should vote for her, she smiled and replied because "I am your Scottish Wonder Woman." She was herself. There is not time for a tirade here. Then back to the actual award show. Yes she was nervous, but after they announced the winner she again appeared fine. She spoke to Diversity off stage and danced with them. Diversity said this. She was interviewed off stage about her "making a record and going from there." There was another show on ITV2 after the awards called Britains Got More Talent. They were interviewing Diversity mainly, but all the rest of the participants were there. I know I saw Susan with the other contestants standing behind the couch. This show went on for probably 30 minutes.....I call BS on this one. Do I think, however, she could have suffered from exhaustian been taken to a PRIVATE clinic for a check up? Yes...I believe that is very possible. It was probably a smart thing just to make sure. They certainly would not take her to a public emergency room would they now? Think about it. I am calling BS on this one, just like I did all week.
Posted by ndcoop on May 31, 2009
by the way, it does NOT diminish my admiration and respect for ONE bit.
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
One additional note, remember that it was reported that what upset Susan was waking up one morning to all the tabloid headlines about her. That does not mean the tabloid reports were true.
Posted by Retired In Flat Broke Kalifornia on May 31, 2009
WHOAAAAAA! FOLKS! Time now to take some deep breaths!

YES Susan is very likely exhausted, YES its quite likely she's gotten health attention from pros, we DON'T know the full story yet!

Anybody old enough to remember Judy Garland, she pratically lived her entire live on a shrinks couch or in chemical rehab from taking all kind'a nasty pharmaceuticals. Lets wait an see - but don't stop talking if you need to if it helps y'all emotionally and otherwise; one of the benefits of blogging I'd say!
Posted by MJ from USA on May 31, 2009
@Lovin ... understood. her brother gerry seemed to be right but if she was takened out of the competition early it would mean a disaster career-wise. it's just how the entertainment business is. so for that it's damn if she don't and damn if she didn't. i wish Susan well. i can't wait for her CD and what's the future in stake for her. she's the best.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 31, 2009
Further to mine, above: There are seriously talented people all over the place who choose NOT to seek major entertainment spotlight prcisely b/c they're NOT willing to put up with the touring, leaving family, media BS, etc. They perform locally, on small scale, as a second job, etc. Our local instrument repair guy / woodwind instructor could have played circles around Julian Smith on the flute, guitar, or any saxophone ever made. Rather, he ekes out a living locally, but is happy. Not temperametally suited to the lifestyle.
Posted by Allikat on May 31, 2009
ndcoop, my sentiments, exactly. Nothing whatsoever to do with the 2nd place finish, it's all the REST of it! It's all the 'trash' surrounding the BGT show itself. The media, paparazzi, folks obviously hired to try upsetting her intentionally...yes, there is something there, all right...I definitely recognize it when I see it with my own eyes, hear it with my own ears. I don't believe too much of what I only read though.

Susan is vulnerable, but her little so-called 'lack of impulse control' issues could be managed just fine with the help of a proper PA. Let's all hope she gets more 'time off' than the reported little bitty 2-3 days I read about earlier.

I mean--how much time does she really NEED, to rehearse for that tour anyhow? She already knows the songs she'll sing, so...?
Posted by PIGGIE on May 31, 2009
It's probably a combination of things. Stress for one. And if they did give her something to calm her down, Xanax or something, and if she is not used to that stuff, she could have a bad reaction to coming off it. That stuff can really mess wtih you if you're not accustomed, and in combination with the pressure-cooker she was in, can't say this is at all surprising. I just pray she is able to overcome and continue on a less frenetic career. Maybe she'll even be able to get out of the part of the contract that requires her to do that pointless finalist tour.
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
I am with you Kalifornia. Make sure you read my post above. The timing of all these reports is not supported by the events we actually saw during the show.

Posted by tweek on May 31, 2009
I am seeing some comments that Susan may have been admitted to a hospital or something. My guess is they have hidden her from the press. BGT took a lot of heat for not taking care of her and maybe they are finally protecting her the way they should. Susan's fame came about so fast, and furious that I do not think BGT saw it coming, any more than Susan. We the world in 3 weeks threw her up on a pedastal and everytime Susan moved so did the snakes at the press, because they knew they had a public audience that would read whatever they printed. And, they did not care whether they hurt Susan or her fans. She could even be at some private spa, where she can relax. I am sure she is in good hands, let me assure you. They want her to disappear for awhile.

Thanks Allikat... and these things can be subtle, correct? Meaning, I'm not sure you can blame the BGT staff...90% of the public (including myself to a degree) is ignorant regarding psychological disturbance. I do know this, stress can be one hell of a trigger.

@MorgantownWV Thank you for the voice of reason. It must be another lie. It makes no sense .

Good on that piggie! Day after I'd retired 9 years ago I'd asked to be put on "something stronger" than Xanax, retiring mentally devestated leaving the place I'd given 31 years, 13 days of my body & soul was something I can relate to Susan about placing 2nd on BGT.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
Susan has been under great stress. I have worked in the field of mental health for over 31 years and saw signs I didn't like at the finals. It was said Susan's two brothers and some nephews were in the audience by Ant and Dec before she sang. If she is in a clinic this would be the best course to help her get over what BGT did to her. I think now Susan's family will look over her in the days to come. I think they know what is at steak here. I think Susan is in the best hands she could possibly be in right now considering the circumstances.

I have blamed BGT from the beginning for not protecting her. And I posted several times to Piers that they had better make it right with Susan because her fans won't stand for her to be mistreated. And I don't think her family will stand for it either. I think after professional intervention Susan will be alright. :)
Posted by JRH2063 on May 31, 2009
The simple truth is that the wonderful lady Susan who came from nowhere has been put under more media pressure in such a short time than any media star in the history of the world. It does not surprise me at all she is near to a complete breakdown. The show organisers should have protected her better.
Posted by PhyllisIA on May 31, 2009
I am sick for Susan. That said, I think we have to realize the reports may be untrue. Her two brothers and other family were there, as well as her friend, and no where in the dramatic story are they mentioned.

And, if it is, who wouldn't be exhausted? She gave her all and now it's over. She'll rest and this too, can be a wake up call. She can record, sing for the queen, do many fun things. She may need to be a bit more structured in her engagements. Seven weeks of a roller coaster ride, she needs some rest. I sure would like to be assured that she is getting some care, though. I'd think all would assure she is. Time for prayers. Phyllis

Remember that the tabloids need something to print. Diversity winning gave them nothing. People want to read about Susan. There is no Susan news, so they are making it up. The only news sources I trust are skynews.com and bbc.com. If they don't report it, it probably did not happen.

I was of course shocked by the fact that Susan came second at Saturday's final of Britain's Got Talent. I believe that the majority of the people in Britain thought that Susan would win with a landslide, so they didn't call to vote thinking that many others would have done so. Big mistake!! I must confess that I am one of them and I feel so guilty for my failure to take action! Susan, you are our winner no matter what. You have a brilliant future in your singing career and I look forward to hear your voice again. helena

Susan in my book You are still the winner. You not only went for Your dream but You got support world wide. As far as the gossip any one can do that but it takes a special person to do what You did. SUSAN BOYLE RUSHED TO CLINIC WITH 'EXHAUSTION'

Posted: 8:31 pm May 31, 2009

Fame can be exhausting!

Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle suffered a breakdown tonight, collapsing from the weight of her meteoric rise to fame, according to a published report.

The physically and mentally worn out Boyle, 48, was taken out of a London hotel -- one day after performing in the finale of "Britain's Got Talent," The Sun newspaper in London said.

Paramedics helped the worn-down star through the lobby and into an ambulance before she was rushed to a private North London hospital.

Boyle shot to worldwide fame in April after her "Talent" audition became a YouTube hit, drawing more than 220 million views. She was the prohibitive favorite going into Saturday's finale, but she finished second to a dance troupe called Diversity.

Worse than an insult patriciasart, its a flat out abomination; Susan will get her rewards SOONER rather than later!
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
EXACTLY MJ! About the picture of her in the car with flowers. Who even knows when that was taken. She is in the same yellow top that she was wearing prior to the semis. And do you really think that if someone was in that bad shape they would shove a huge thing of flowers in their lap????

Is this really true?
Posted by Angie (2) on May 31, 2009
Susan:

Despite not winning the competition, I really believe your dream was realized beyond your wildest imagination. Personally, I thought you should have sung "My Heart Goes On" from the Titanic in the finale instead of one everybody had already heard in the competition. I do hope you will record it on an album, so that I can hear you sing it in its entirety rather than just the snippet I found of it on the Internet. At any rate, best of luck on your newfound career. The best advice to not let the pressures get to you is to stay grounded, true to yourself and remember where you came from. Don't let any of it go to your head or get to you and you'll be fine. I wish you a successful career because you're now seeking an outlet for the talent that God has blessed you with. I look forward to hearing about and purchasing an album of yours.

Angie

P.S. If what I read was true that many Britains did not vote for you because they were assured so many would that you didn't need their vote, shame on them. They robbed you of what perhaps should have been, but didn't materialize, because of their lack of action on your behalf. The pressure's off so now you can simply sing your heart out.
Posted by Nancee on May 31, 2009
If it's true about being placed in a facility, then maybe she can get some rest, and maybe the doctors can give her a way to get away for BGT and Simon and their demands on her.

Remember, Piers said that Simon was going to whisk her off to the the Czech philharmonics to make a CD as soon as next week.

patricisart: I'm telling you, I really don't believe it had ANYTHING to do with 2nd place. People get 2nd place ALL the time and handle it ok. I really believe that the stress triggered a breakdown in this case, because Susan is susceptible to it in a way different from the average person. The media has been horrible in this, but the bottom line is that people have had to deal with this type of thing, and never had a breakdown. No fault of Susan's, but she is susceptible to stress because of her biology. Again, just an opinion, but I really think I am right.

I have felt something was wrong for awhile and it began with Piers toying with her, inviting her to dinner, feeding her fantasies about him. She is vulnerable, not sophisticated. He didn't get this. I felt a lot of pain coming from Susan during her performance last night. I was hoping she was just in the mood of the song but I don't think so. Her feelings have been really hurt over the past week or so and I just want to keep the press and other vultures away from her. She needs some counsellling to deal with this thing called celebrity.

Don't you think that if Susan threw any tirades or was having problems, some of the other contestants would have let is slip out? Shaheen said he was having breakfast every morning with Susan. I have hesitated in saying I have worked in the field of mental health for over 31 ears and am vey aware of Susan's circumstances because I didn't want to be negative on this list. But I did see signs I was worried about. That is why I kept posting that BGT needed to protect her and kept after Piers to get her help and make her safe.

In saying that, Gerry, her brother, has said in the past the family knew Susan could sing but didn't know if she could handle everything that goes with it. I still think Susan will be OK after she receives professional treatment. but in the coming days , I think they will have to pick and choose what and how much Susan can do and not push it. If we all remember Susan ALWAYS said, "Take baby steps one at a time."

Howdy Pards,

Rest...not a breakdown. Do you remember seeing Susan arrive in that video yesterday. She was laughing and joking in the car as she arrived...

When she lost she was gracious to the winners...even backstage as they (Diversity) have reported. She hugged the musician when his name was announced...she immediately appeared on the ITV2 show Britain's Got More Talent.

The first thing we have do to is remember that the press will exploit and twist this story in any and all ways possible to sell their papers. They will print the absolute worst photos they can possibly get of her.

The facts appear to be that Susan was advised to take a few days off and rest after the pressures of the finals. She was taken to the priority clinic to get that rest.

That is ALL we know.

We celebrate Susan because she has touched our hearts. We genuinely love Susan and do not want her to be hurt.

It is NOT helpful in any way for us to panic on her fan's site. It is helpful for us to continue to celebrate all that we know and love about her. It is helpful for us to pray for her health and safety. And it is also helpful for all of us to continue to work together on improving her fans site...and to stay positive about the wonderful future that is just ahead for our Susan.

She needs rest. She needs our continued love and support. She needs our hopes and prayers. And we need her.

Let us continue to celebrate Lady Susan Boyle. To make no apologies whatsoever for celebrating this wonderful person. We are her fans! That's what fans do!

Full speed ahead...

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

But, along with 200,000,000 other fans of Susan Boyle I will NOT feel guilty for celebrating the gift she has given us. All of her success and fame has been achieved by her...the old fashioned way...she EARNED it.
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
MorgantownWV, I agree. I think the tabloids are on a fishing expedition. One - to try to find out where Susan is located. Two - trying to get those who've been swearing off tabloids since they launched their nasty little anti-Susan campaign..to read their tripe again.
Posted by YourAwesome on May 31, 2009
I would believe the exhaustion part...she did look tired when she was singing...
Posted by Bohemian Spirit on May 31, 2009
I just can't get over how she looked more anxious about winning than about learning she'd taken second place. Anybody with half an eye could see she was exhausted and stressed--and I think it's been a given among all of us that Susan needs serious R&R to recuperate from the trauma of the last week's drama--but the sheer relief in her face when "Diversity" was announced was like night and day.

Mind you, I take tabloid reports with a 40-pound bag of rock salt. I'm not rushing to say, OMG this must be true! But what's obviously true, just from watching Susan on the finals, is that she's really burnt out from this whole circus sideshow. THAT, not taking 2nd instead of 1st, is what wore her down.

The "crushed at not taking first place" storyline is the obvious cliche to grasp at, but it just doesn't mesh with what we saw on the finals. Frankly, I was taken aback at the sudden relief on Susan's face! I think her fans were more devastated than she was about her placement in the competition.

My guess is that Susan is being kept away from the media so she can just "collapse" (not necessarily in a clinical sense) and regain her strength. Meanwhile, I cannot see what good it would do to be "negative" instead of "positive." Positivity and support and focusing on the future instead of the past are helpful and healing things; that's not "denial" but a constructive approach. Nor do I think that declining to freak out every time a tabloid vomits constitutes "denial" of reality, because tabloids are not reality.

The only power that's in our hands, folks, is the power of love and support and prayer and good vibes being sent Susan's way--and I trust we've been doing that all along!

Britains Got Talent was never about democracy like Simon said when he was with Oprah Winfrey. BGT is all about a so called democracy where the betting sites are the parasites and they determine who will winn. It's Satan's work again. Suddenly these parasites discovered this show after Paul Potts.

What this all means? The betting industry decided that Susan was not to win. The parasites took without any shame

Meredith Vieira (in the MSNBC article linked by IvoryMist, above) said it more succinctly than I did:

"But for a moment Saturday night, stepping out of the glaring spotlight seemed to be the greatest prize anyone could give Susan Boyle."
Posted by gardenator on May 31, 2009
Took the advice above and checked with BBC.com. They are reporting same story, but using The Sun as the source. BBC language not inflammatory like the tabloids. They say she was taken, suffering from exhaustion -- who wouldn't be?--not for 'emotional breakdown'. This is also a blessing in disguise, like 2nd place, I think. Even the show folks have to put Susan's health first. At the clinic, she will be monitored, have people watching over here, keep the press away, get some rest, and hopefully be excused from the tour, maybe even get to go home for awhile to routine and Pebbles. Rest peaceably, Susan.

Yanno? I'm just thinking...as perky as Susan became AFTER the winner was announced, even though I'm sure she was exhausted and burnt out by the whole affair, her family is probably just making sure she gets a checkup and the proper rest she needs away from the slimelight.

I also think the tabloid mongrels are just shaking their tambourines trying to hook people into buying their drivel.

It would be terrific if Susan's "not being able to handle" the tough pace that fame sets causes her to be unable to fulfill anything that BTG execs have planned for her and is then able to get out from under any legal BGT obligations, then could go on and fulfill her dream in her own "baby steps." I think that's what she needs.
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
The BBC and Skynews are just referencing what the SUN has reported. They haven't done the investigation. I think they are just looking for Susan. Read this excerpt:

"Police were called to a London hotel on Sunday at 1800 BST to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act, Scotland Yard confirmed. "

Anyone can make a call like that. It is probably like people in American using the "freedom of information act" to find out things. All they needed was someone in a hotel to make a call. I am guessing that any of us could make a call under the "mental health act."

The whole thing stinks. I still call BS. They are looking for her. That is what this about. They have her tucked away somewhere and the tabloids want to know where. I have not doubt she is resting somewhere. There have been too many people saying she will be making the album soon. I also don't by any of the crap that her family does not know where she is or doesn't have her number. I call a BIG BS on that one. Her brothers are smart business men. No way that would happen.

I do not believe all the tabloid gossip. As for the Mail and some of the other papers considered more regular, they have all been following the tabloids' lead, passing along the crap indiscriminately, and using the same derogatory terms like Hairy Angel. So I put no stock in them. I totally disagree with Happy about our having done this to her. We have made no demands, we have only been about love and support. I think the only way we will know anything reliable on Susan's condition and who is with her is through Paul, Anonymous, and Ryan. And I am asking them to tell us anything they can as to what is happening with her and who is with her and taking care for her. Paul, Ryan, you know how we all worry about her and you can see how these stories are spreading on here and how upset many are becoming. Please help us out.

If she is in a clinic, it doesn't have to mean she has had a complete breakdown so for God's sake let's not jump to conclusions. We all knew even last week that she was being crucified and we have all been worrying about her all this time. We saw how exhausted and weary at heart she looked. We, many of us, have expressed our concern over and over about being overrushed into new activities right away by Simon and cohorts for their own benefit.

I don't think it is wrong that we talk about the banners and the wonderful things that could happen now for Susan. It definitely doesn't mean we have discarded our deep concerns for her welfare, and we have all said from the first, and have repeated regularly that we want for Susan what she wants for herself. Whatever she chooses. She can make no decisions until she has had a chance to recover. If she should choose just to go back home, then bless her. I would just feel bad that in reaching for her dream she was kicked in the teeth and wasn't able to have what she had dreamed for so long. I would be sorry for myself never to hear more of her singing, but would never want anything at Susan's expense. I know none of us would. And I will be bitter for a long time if it turns out that way. But let us not rush into hasty conclusions. I wish she had a spokesperson that we could trust. But Simon or anyone associated with him and BGT is definitely not that.

Paul, Ryan, are hyou listening? Can you help us out here?

Susan Boyle was not upset that she didn't win the competition and don't worry about it folks everyone in Britian won't believe that nonsense....her face literally lit up it seemed with joy when they announced Diversity I think she truly wanted the freedom do actually maybe in time after a rest begin making an album/CD....give her some time I believe she'll be fine : - )

The press are more interested in making a buck, now more than ever since more news papers are going under. Guess they just had to pick on a very nice lady who never did any harm & brought more good to a weary world. Just goes to show how insidious evil can be....

Don't know how many of us are from the US. Here, to be put in a hospital / clinic, you have to be nearly at death's door. In the UK and other places with nationalized healthcare, they admit people often for preventative care. I'm sure that Susan is exhausted and they just wanted to monitor her and give her a quiet place to recover.
Posted by Patricia's Art on May 31, 2009
@Noelle ,that is a wonderful thought. I hope she gets to take the baby steps.

MorgantownWV Piers said in the Giraldo interview that Simon planned to whisk her off NEXT WEEK to do the CD. Piers said that (I saw the interview) and he just might have known Simon's plans, don't ya think?

So if she is in a clinic resting, sure would mess up Simon's plans, wouldn't it?.LOL
Posted by YourAwesome on May 31, 2009
@dannymac...exactly...think of it as rest...with people watching..lol I'm not making fun of Susan...but the place...

Agree with cnc1, go to Triage in nearly any California hospital with serious mental condition and you're last in line, personally know about that looking back 30 years ago.

By the way, I am pretty sure that All newpapers with "SUN" in the title are the same company and owned by the guy who owns Foxnews. That is why the same news appears in all of them.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
I think Susan needs rest. I don't think she has had a breakdown. She needed to get out of the box BGT put her in. After rest I think they will do what Susan always said about taking a baby step at a time. Susan knows herself better than anyone on this list and so does her family.

I think we need to stay away from the rags and wait until we can get a true report on Susan. All they want is ratings and money. They are despicable people.

I saw the photo of Susan pointing he finger at the news guys. It was non threatening.. If she did say some words who could blame her. She needed a release from it all. If they got in my face I am afraid I would react much stroger than Susan did. Another exaggeration by the press. Calm is needed here until we find out for sure what has truly happened. :)

BBC has just reported that Susan has been admitted to hospital in London due to mental exhaustion. Lets all keep her in our thoughts and prayers.
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
It just makes perfect sense that if they did take her in for some sort of check up, a private clinic...regardless of its purpose, would be the place to take a famous person.
Posted by YourAwesome on May 31, 2009
AT least the paparazzi won't be there!!! Yeah!!! If they snuck in they would get beat with bedpans!!
Posted by tweek on May 31, 2009
Me, too, the words that tabloids are using... are that they had to admit her because she had a nervous beakdown because she lost. Hogwash, Susan is a lady she is not going to be stressed out being she was not first. Twisting the words to make it seem she cannot cope. If any thing she may needed some bedrest away from the press and rest. But, if she tried to take a holiday anywhere is this world, unless they flew her into a private island with no access to the rest of the world people will know immediately who see is...

Well I won't stop worring until I see her again all happy in an interview. Until then I'm going to avoid those tabloids because if you search for news thats all you find are tragic stories. I think we need to agree not to post any tabloids as a news source and just be patent and wait for the cd.
Posted by jayhawk fan on May 31, 2009
If you watch that interview of Susan in the yellow blouse the day after the semifinals she was her usual happy self...very funny and vowing to do her best on the finals. In just one week after the tabloids went after her she was so sad in her final performance, no smiles. I'm not sure if it was totally the tabloid's fault or a combination of them and Piers leading her on and then gushing over that other singer like he did. The picture of her in the Sun with those flowers was horrible and so was the article. She was under a lot of pressure to perform in the semifinal and it did not seem to bother her that much. It was this last week that did it.

There was no mention in the West Lothian paper about Susan being in a clinic, and the BBC newspaper said it was "according to the Sun", which is a tabloid rag. So we still don't know for sure. I hope she is getting some much-needed rest, but I don't want her to be ill or hurt.

Wild Ol Dan, thank you. You always say what needs to be said so well. Please don't ever leave this group.

I think all this shows even more that control of what she will do should not be in the hands of Simon or anyone connected with BGT. It needs to be in her hands with advice and help from the family with professional help of course. Then she can choose what she wants to do, how much she wants to do, and at what pace. In the meantime let us keep our optimism that she will get through this and good things will come to her. Keep talking banners, keep looking ahead, keep loving and supporting.

Whatever the circumstances and truth is about the clinic story, she's certainly got a comfy bed, some peace and quite, and her family is there. She'll be able to regenerate, destress, and debrief away from the entertainment business human feeding, processing, and packing machine that runs 24/7. A wee bit of stress and tension makes you alert and ready for action, but too much can cause your demise. Forget the self-serving banter of others about recording this and that CD, appearances here and there, moola, moola, moola. These initial days after the competition belong to YOU darling and whomever YOU choose to share them with. Put YOURSELF first for a change, rest, eat healthy, and go to that sanctuary in your mind that brings you peace and happiness. You are soooooooooooooooooo truly loved by everyone. All the best to you. Licks & Lovebites from San Antonio, TX

Thanks for your thoughtful words wild ole Dan! In a tiny way, in all our love, we too, are wanting more of Susan. Sing for us, make a CD, come see us. I want all that! I want to go to lunch with her. :)

And Bohemian soul, I like you keeping us from the tabloids. I also agree with you 100% re her relief over not getting first place. She looked so drained while waiting I was afraid she'd lose it if she didn't win, but it was the opposite.

I, too, have worked in the MH field and whereas I wrote I'm sick about her, I also know she will get good care. Mainly she'll be allowed to rest. People who care for her will do that == care. And, we can pray and watch her previous videos until we see new ones. Blessings to all, Phyllis

I never stated that she has any disorder, but thought she very well might have a disorder. And, if so, who cares??? We all could be classified as having a "mild" disorder of some type. My point was that illness of this sort is so mis-understood by the average person. Do I have a Ph.D... no. Do I have a degree and some experience with this subject... YES.

Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
Exactly, the Sun is a tabloid. That is where EVERY story started last week about her as well. I followed it...didn't get much work done...lol. Some exagerated story came out about the Shaheen thing. I never believed a word about that. Everyone denied it, even Shaheen. That thing went balistic and spread from tabloid to tabloid to the mainstream media. There was never a confirmed report from ANY of the 150 people in the room. The hotel even confirmed that she watch Shaheen's performance in her room. That story is what upset her so much because it did not happen. Peirc said she felt bad because she felt as if it had embarrassed him. The reporters in the lobby were taunting her and making fun of her singing the DREAM song. She was already upset over all the press that went balistic about Shaheen. She gave the reporters a Scottish earful and then that got blown out of proportion. That is when they took her out of that particular hotel. Sun reporters deliberatly instigated every bit of this.

One of our new people suggested we all make a square (knit one). Maybe we could do that, for those that do not knit, maybe we could knit one for them. We could incorporate designs to represent the entire world. And, the blanket could be photographed and given to "Peoples Magazine". What an idea.

Dont get me wrong I like the Smarties.

I had an idea, if the Village could get all their kids together, and the ones that don't have Susan Boyle tea shirts, make a list of those kids and their size, and h=if each member purchased a shirt for one child, they could be distributed w/o postage. Then, get all the kids together and photograph them from a tower or something and post it on our website. A thousand of little Su-Bo fans.

Why would Simon have any say over what clinic she would go to? She has family. That would be up to Susan and family wouldn't it? Unless slavery has been reinstituted in England and Susan belongs to BGT now and has no rights of any kind?
Posted by jayhawk fan on May 31, 2009
Is the Herald-Sun a tabloid? On the BGT homepage there is an article about Susan being admitted to that clinic and a representative from the show said something about her being exhausted, etc. and they wish her a speedy recovery or something. If they had of protected her better none of this would have happened.

@Retired in California:

The betting sites chose who the winner was after an 11/10. That is what happened. They did not want to loose tens of millions. They sabotaged the outcome. Well done Diversity! Your win was calculated by these parasites. Do not even think that you won that show. You won that final because desperate betting sites were calling to vote for you. That's the world we are living in.

I hate it when tabloid writers, who cannot think intelligently nor creatively, say 'the dream is over.' Susan's dream has just begun. This is only the beginning. She needed a springboard, she got it. @Morgatown .... that pix with the flowers looked like from the semi-fnals. sun took that picture and added craps lies again.

And oh dear now the NYDaily News and NY Post are headlines that Susan is sick... of course they probably took this from the Sun. They don't know The Sun is a tabloid trash. But Meredith Veira on her own words who happened to be in the audience said that Susan did nail it. And she looked genuine relieved to be placed 2nd. because she looked more relax after the announcement according to Meredith. She also added that Susan looked genuinely happy for Diversity. But she did confirmed Susan packed her bags the day before the Finals and it was Piers who convinced her to go for it.

Oh dear, what drama entails. This does look like a Shakespearean Play.
Posted by HAPPY on May 31, 2009
True, Bohemian Spirit, tabloids are not reality. That's why I am only relying on my own observations to say that I am not at all optimistic about the situation. I saw it coming. Every time I tried to warn about it, there was someone to say everything was alright. As I didn't want to hurt anybody's feelings and I, myself was willing to believe in the Dream, I didn't insist. But do you really think Susan's behaviour on her very first audition was not already quite disturbing. Back then her little antics were dubbed as quaint village manners. But it went on with her uncomely little dances down to overtly crude behaviour on the last show. We're not talking about little lapses in social behaviour here, or feisty outbursts as most people, even Piers said. What I saw was somebody who was progressively losing control under the battering stress she was daily exposed to. So sad when you consider how she struggled and actually managed to put on perfect acts to make everybody happy and proud of her. BGT should be sued for urging her on while they knew she was mentally fragile. This Dream thing onlymeant Susan was led to believe her whole was at stake when she performed. Can you imagine that? She said it herself, she'd been singing 40 years just to come to that moment whenb she was to be recognized aPiers is the worst of them all. In many ways, his attitude towards Susan was as insulting, though more subtly so, as Barrymore's 15 years ago. Maybe he didn't read the signs rigth as, apparently, most bpeople did. Anyway, I'm really disgusted at all those people. You can delete this message if you're afraid it might disturb anybody and especially Susan, but I had to take this off my chest.

Posted by Bobber2 on May 31, 2009
Susan many here are suggesting this to you or that perhaps presumptious for us to do so. I'll add something however you might find helpful....in the last US Presidential election there was a female as you might be aware who was running for Vice. Many in the media were really giving her a going over [and you yourself might

know of her an not agree with her polices] but one thing she did that many found outstanding was her capacity not to be moved shaken hurt or destroyed by the public lampooning she was receiving [and always keep in mind by some and not all] But they asked her what is her secret in not allowing herself to be hurt and she stated it was

by keeping it all in perspective. She said she would think of the families who have sons or daughters in the service [the US military] knowing some of which were always worried about their welfare or even sadly they'd receive word about their loved ones demise. She would say, "Look those are the people who had the real

problems, who am I but a politician and if some people are going to say not so nice things about me....well...so what ?" So I guess her key was to put some of these things in perspective and could this be helpful for you as well ? Im sure you'll be asked how you are holding up under the media pressure and could perhaps the same answer be good for you ?

That look "Yes when it was all taking place I was perhaps beside myself in knowing how to deal with it but then I came to a different thought that being who has real problems.....who am I but an entertainer that the press have said a few not so nice things about and where will there words be tomorrow except on the bottom of a

bird cage anyway ......the ones who have real problems I must think are indeed the families of our British armed forces who hope and long daily for the safety and welfare of their loved ones in the field of maybe real battles. So yes what ive choosen to put all these things in perspecitive. My problems next to theirs are maybe nothing" :-)

Might be real nice if in the future some time up ahead if the government could work out for you to go to one of the bases and sing them a few songs....theymight tell you "Susan if a few of the goon press up their ever give you a hard time again tell them they might want to be careful for now you 've got the military on your side !" Wish you all the best, hang in there, there's alot more for you then could ever be against you :-)

Happy, agree with everything except the blame of BGT. I think it was mainly a lack of understanding. Maybe I believe too much in the goodness of people, but I really felt that Piers and Simon wanted what was best for her. Dollar signs? Yes. But I would find it hard to believe they did this, knowing that she was in an extremely fragile state. In other words, I don't think they "got it".

I agreee with stop feeding the tabloid press. We all know entertainers occasionally take a rest in a hospital because of exhaustion.

If you go back to the YouTube of the finals and look ait again we can all see that Susan was relieved when she was given 2nd place. Before she had quivering lips. Even in singing when she hit the high note and then did the motion with her head and swinging her arms at one point was the sign of... anger !!!

Also, after her performance was over she held her head down glancing up several times and then smiling when the judges gave her approval remarks. A sign she had been badly disturbed because of the rejection she had received from the press and others.

CNN is going to give a report but I doubt if they know anymore than the rags. 24/7 news reporting is almost as bad. Will see what thy say.

I don't get it while in Scotland, Susan was hounded by the paparazzi but she was ok with it. when she went to London all hell broke lose.

Geraldo Rivera on Fox has a Breaking News on Susan... saying she was admitted according to the UK Daily Mail.

oh dear...

GERALDO SAYS ITS TRUE, IT WAS BREAKING NEWS. SUSAN WAS ADMITTED TO THE HOPITAL

Fox News alert by Geraldo reporting Susan being taken to hospital for rest.....they are a little late ......... he wasn't too condescending...just a bit.

Id like to keep saying this if I might...the Queen would probably like to have Susan for a private tea.... :-) And im sure here's what she would say, "O don't worry about some of those in the media Susan...look what they've done to me and my family :-) By the way ive got your new CD but can you sing me that song again :-)

Hmmm, if Susan was "finished" yesterday then again WHY all the hub-bub surrounding them? Why not anyting about "Diversity," all those other celebs - think Paris Hilton, Lindsay Lohan - and of course Brittany here - gotta be eating their hears out right now, great "test" I'd say for their publicity machines to match those given "for free" AT Susan.
Posted by PaulieDB on May 31, 2009
I have just thought of something, the picture of her in the yellow shirt with the flowers, I do believe that was taken after the semi finals as she arrived at studios yesterday in a black and white dress if my memory serves me well
Posted by songbirdwatcher on May 31, 2009
WELL IT CERTAINLY WASN'T BECAUSE SHE LOST, THAT SUSAN BROKE DOWN, IT WAS FROM ALL THE NASTY RAG-MAG ARTICLES. I DON'T KNOW WHY PIERS HAD TO TELL THE WHOLE WORLD, BEFORE THE VOTE, THAT THEY HAD CALLED IN DOCTORS.

ALERT: SUSAN HAS BEEN ADMITTTED TO A LONDON HOSPITAL DUE TO EXHAUSTION. THATS ALL I KNOW. GERALDO ON FOX NEWS REPORTED IT JUSM MINUTES AGO.

Oh geez, Susan makes BREAKING NEWS on Fox that she's going in for hospital bedrest. OK, if anybody needs hospitalization its her; no offence to all in the U.K. but maybe money to pay for ANY privates doctors for her medical outside "the system" there would be a grand idea!

PIERS MORGAN MAY 31 BLOG about Susan I thought she sang absolutely beautifully last night. Which given that she told me she’d spent most of the week crying, throwing up, not sleeping and generally feeling the weight of the world’s pressures on her, was a remarkable achievement. To the cynics and critics who sneered at her, I simply ask: why? It wasn’t Susan’s fault that she became this global phenomenon. It was OUR fault. We, the public and the media, who latched onto her amazing audition performance and decided she was the woman to lift us all out of our doom and gloom. I was incredibly proud of Susan last night, and was bemused to wake up to the headlines all screaming ‘END OF THE DREAM’ this morning. Susan’s dream was not to win a talent show. It was to have a professional singing career.

piggie, your right but I thing he did credible war reporting in Afghanistan & Iraq, he was one of the first "field" ones in Afghanistan and was sometimes too much a "flag waver" which if I remember he got "called on the carpet" by the military folks over there.

, "Right ON" Teesiel about the last comment appearing on BGT was about having a professional singing career, she said so herself on BGT Appearance No.1. Everything after Susan's first appearnce was pandemonium created by the media of the kind I've seen in the music business since the early 1960s, difference back then and now was not the HATE of the tabloids - it's a "generational thing" if you get my drift.

I also feel very badly for the stress and trauma Susan has been subjected to. Let us hope that she is not ill but merely in need of some rest. Would this possibly be the time to send her some flowers from her fans, if she is to be in the clinic for a few days? Not a huge amount, which could be overwhelming, but one lovely bouquet from all of us.

Geraldo is another hack reporter even though he is on Fox. I really don't believe anything that comes from the Sun. They are trying to sell papers so they write rubbish hoping people will buy them and believe them. Susan is probably getting some much needed rest. Besides, wasn't Susan taken to a hidden location before the finals? Why would she be back at that hotel? I wouldn't put much stock in CNN either as they can be nasty as well.

Susan Boyle Should be Given Accommodation for Her Disabilities Published yesterday by ■ Carol Forsloff

Susan Boyle is a 47-year-old woman who became famous overnight for her performance on the TV show Britain's Got Talent. Vote up this image! Susan Boyle, who has captivated the world with her beautiful voice, is now ridiculed by some. That's because folks may not have knowledge of her handicapping conditions, which deserve accommodation so that she can share her singing talents fairly. This woman, an unemployed church worker who cared for her mother until her mother's death two years ago, has suffered all her life with learning disabilities. These resulted, according to Boyle's account, as a result of oxygen deprivation when she was born. She was the butt of jokes in school because she was slow and not very attractive. Now she is being talked about in blogs, articles, article comments and in tabloids both in print and online as perhaps too emotionally deficient to win Britain's Got Talent.

For most types of contests these days, there are opportunities for individuals with disabilities to excel. For workplace accommodations people with disabilities receive special help. We are told to understand that people with disabilities have special needs. Susan Boyle has talent; she can sing in ways that inspire many, but at the same time she has behaviors that correspond with brain injured adults and those with learning disabilities or neurological deficits. Her accomplishment on Britain’s Got Talent could be compared with a blind person finishing Harvard University summa cum laude.

The characteristics exhibited in adulthood for brain injury include attention deficit, impaired planning and problem solving, inflexibility, impulsiveness, irritability, opposition and socially inappropriate behavior. Experts further say, “A person suffering from TBI disinhibition is likely to "speak his mind" and say socially inappropriate things where a normal person might think them but have the sense not to say them. This causes increased difficulty in socialization and advancement as an adult.”

During the course of time since Susan Boyle rose to fame on Britain's Got Talent, the world has had an opportunity to view Boyle in a number of contexts. Recently she was reported swearing, acting inappropriately and arguing. She also threw what people called a temper tantrum when Piers Morgan applauded the skills of a rival contestant on Britain's Got Talent. These behaviors are characteristic of someone with Boyle's syndrome of what is called neurological dysfunction, mild brain injury or learning disabilities.

Understanding that, and recognizing that it is not only the law but of moral consequence in many countries to provide special resources for those with disabling conditions, why would it not be reasonable to allow for these conditions for someone seeking a musical career? It is reasonable, given Susan Boyle's extraordinary talent, that the media understand the nature of brain injury and learning disabilities and view Susan Boyle and her achievements, as well as potential achievements, through that prism of understanding. It is the business of the press to educate and inform. In this case the press with respect to Susan Boyle has fallen short of its responsibilities. Perhaps the public will be more empathetic and understanding than those who have written about Boyle since she achieved the finals for Britain's Got Talent and displayed inappropriate behavior. That will allow a fair and reasonable opportunity for this unique woman to realize her dreams while showing the compassion that we are to give those with disabilities.

As a retired rehabilitation and mental health counselor, educator and life-care planner who has worked with adults like Susan Boyle, I hope that compassion overrides cynicism for the sake of fairness for this talented woman.

Teesel My son was also oxygen deprived and had learning disabilities. But he now works in a very high stress job, had risen to the rank of Director before 35, and is one of the calmest individuals I interact with.

Please, stop trying to diagnose Susan when you don't have all the info you need. Being an expert wouldn't give you the right because you don't know what happened or have the information need.

Good humans, let's all pray that Susan is doing OK. All the other stuff, T-shirts, banner, CD, tabloid scum, etc, etc, etc, are a bit miniscule and trivial right now, don't you think. LET HER KNOW THAT YOU LOVE HER AND ARE THINKING ABOUT HER AT THIS VERY MOMENT. Licks & Lovebites to your darling Susan.
Posted by Bohemian Spirit on May 31, 2009
No, Happy, I don't agree with how you are interpreting Susan's "antics." I didn't find her audition behavior "quite disturbing," I didn't find her dances "uncomely," and I thought her behavior at the end of the last show was more amusing and admirably defiant than "crude."

I've always thought Susan's "antics" are one of the most hopeful, healthy signs we see from her. Frankly, I was RELIEVED when she cut loose at the end of the finals; it struck me as a very cheeky and defiant "F-U" to the crazymaking she'd been put through by the BGT machine and the tabloid media. I was far more worried about how subdued she seemed during the final, as if all the life and enthusiasm had been drained from her. Seeing her "come to life" at the end, as well as in a few moments during the finals (especially her singing), was a huge relief to me.

Again, I'm not saying there isn't cause for concern. I *AM* saying that none of us is in a position to know what's really going on, and a lot of the "concern" seems to be unhealthy wallowing in doom and gloom for the adrenaline rush of the latest drama. Sorry if that sounds harsh, but I just don't see how it's constructive in any way. What *is* constructive is to uphold Susan in our thoughts and prayers and continue to focus on the positive side of our appreciation of her talent.

Anyway... That's my last post for the night, because I have to get ready for work!

Posted by YorkieMama on May 31, 2009
I just read the news listed at the website that JRH2063 posted... I think that those of us who are true fans of Susan's know that she did not lose the competition. She was a winner before she took the stage. Her nerves showed on the 1st Final but on the night of the Big Final she looked drugged but her performance was stunning and note perfect. I don't know how many of you on this website are Christians - But I think that now is the time to ask the Lord to heal Susan of the mental anguish that she is feeling. I suspect that she feels that she let everyone down by not winning 1st place. Or, maybe she feels she let her friends and family back at home down. What ever the case - It's time to turn it over to the Lord.

Also CNN was of no help as they just reported it was from the British tabloids and said Susan went to the clinic willingly. We need to pray for Susan.

Teesie Went back and reread your long post. That sounds like the definition of 'Borderline Personality'. All the mental health experts of this world have everyone pigeonholed into this or that.

People with borderline personality can be easily spotted because they don't have one - a personality that is! They have not been touched by the finger of God. They lack empathy and are liars and manipulators. We have one in our family so we know. Susan does NOT fit any of those descriptors.

To be totally honest, I never heard any of the tabloids about Susan, and if she told one of them to F off.. U go Girl!!! I am frightened that she is in the hospital. What she has gone through has to be a srain. But we need you Dear Sweet Susan, because you make Our Dreams by Your Voice, by your Smile, and by your beauty that comes within. Let no one take that away from you. No matter what anyone says bad about Susan... It won't make me lose faith in the talent she has to Rock this World. She has stardom right to tell someone to leave her alone and F off without having that real star yet, she does have it, all she has to do is reach out and grab it. We are all pulling for you Susan. I have never in my life been so inspired by anyone in my life. I am overwhelmed every time I view her videos. I pray some very rich man finds her, and shows her a life she deserves, and loves Pebbles too. I want Everything for Susan. God Bless...

Look anyone who was watching itv-1 and itv-2 live feed on Britains Got Talent after the show I saw Susan hanging out with the rest of the contestants like Diversity, the Grandfather in 2 Grand, Julian Smith, I think Signature was there too and she was also drinking what appear to be champagne. I think she partied a bit too much and became exhausted the next day... just my 2 cents. going to the hospital for observation is a routine thing. i doubt it's anything serious. she is due to join the tour she even said it. also she's is flying to Czech Rep for a recording soon too. so i think the hospital stay is just a routine thing for her to be prepared.

And i don't think Susan has borderline personality. none of her neighbors in blackburn ever said anything like that before the competition. all they said she would scream and yell at kids who throw eggs at her window and such... which any one would do the same thing. she was bullied of course she would defend herself. there's nothing mental disturbant about it.
Posted by IvoryMist on May 31, 2009
CNN just interviewed someone from her town who said people were nonstop at her door, and it was getting so much at the end that they think Susan was just so exhausted...she needed rest. The rest of the broadcast was the same as reported here..copied from the tabloids.

I really don't think a person who has had acting lessons and singing lessons, took care of her mother's needs as long as her mother lived as well as running the house and taking care of household business, plus caring for other people around the community and doing church work is the sign of any serious brain injury or disability. So she cursed out some reporters. Who doesn't want to do that when they get "in your face". That's a perfectly normal reaction to tabloid swine. No one has substaintiated the temper tantum supposedly over Piers Morgan praising the child. Her quirky behavior with the dancing and hip wiggling may be nothing more than part of her personality. If this had been done by Paris Hilton or Britney Spears the world would have thought they were just having fun or partying and be laughing with them, not at them. Because she is middle aged and not married, everyone assumes she has something terribly wrong in the intelligence department. Hey, this may be perfectly fine behavior in a Scottish Pub. lol I wish all these so called experts would quit trying to analyze Susan. She doesn't seem to have any dibilitating disabilities. I worked in a mental hospital for almost 16 years and I can tell you Susan's actions and demeanor seem perfectly normal compaired to those who really do have brain damage and mental illness. We all have our little quirks and we all get angry when pushed. who hasn't wanted to hit someone some time or other. So, she got upset and cried. That sounds perfectly normal for a woman when she is stressed above and beyond what she is use to. I got fighting mad and punched someone once and I am the most mild mannered person on this planet. lol The article above about her mental disability is a bunch of crap.

I think caution should be taken in trying to diagnose someone with lack of training and professional knowledge. Let the professionals do it and then we will find out what has happened. We need to stop jumpimg to conclusions. I have worked with borderline personalities for many years and it has to be understood and it isn't a cookie cutter.

Am going to quote Fred O'Neil again..he said this recently!I did post it earlier...but if you did not see it ..here it is.

""Susan is a woman you can sit down with and have a very intelligent conversation. She is one person with whom I can say about my own act 'do you think that song should be dropped?' or 'is that working?' She is one person whose judgement you can really trust."

He said the much-reported mild brain damage she sustained during birth barely affected her daily life.

I agree dellygal. I blame all this on the tabloid leeches. They started this by lieing about the Shaheen deal and it has rolled out of control ever since. For Susan, all the abuse started much earlier. She has been branded with awful names and criticisms from the beginning.
Posted by Nancee on May 31, 2009
Scrooge No, was not saying Susan had a 'borderline personality' which is a category into which the mental health people stick everyone who doesn't fit into one of their other categories. Also, not every one diagnosed, correctly or incorrectly, into that all inclusive category have the characteristics of your family member. You are proving my point about mental health experts, and the diagnoses can be different, depending on the experts.

My point being that her definition of the characteristic of learning disabled, etc etc, or the Boyle syndrome, as post by ???? called it, does not fit every disabled, or oxygen deprived, or all the other categories listed in that post

Further, I was saying I hoped she wasn't just in the hands of only mental health experts. I hope that a sane DR is also treating her.

text from ad campaign for Apple Computers around 1997 called " Think Different"

Here's to the crazy ones. The misfits. The rebels. The troublemakers. The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones that see things differently. They're not fond of rules. And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them, disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them. Because they change things.

They invent. They imagine. They heal. They explore. They create. They inspire. They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy. How else can they stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art? Or sit in silence and hear a song that's never been written? Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones, we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Heigh ho, our Susan will be laughing all the way to the bank. I hope they have her holed up in a first-class country house hotel, with unlimited room service. She deserves her heart's desire.

Now, I just hope Simon doesn't try to come between Susan and Pebbles, because we will see to it that Pebbles wins. Who is taking care of her, by the way? We need an answer to this question.

Still go for I Dreamed A Dream, a picture of Susan and a picture of Pebbles, and the Celtic knot. I wouldn't know the Scottish flag if I sat on it.

Another fantasy--I think the Queen should send Susan pearls, say a 20" strand because she's a big girl, and maybe 14mm studs. Just like the old days when royalty showered the great entertainers with fine gifts. And if Susan doesn't have pierced ears, we'll go for it, baby, it's absolutely liberating. Mom would approve.

I just read BBC news online that Susan was taken voluntarily to a Clinic for exhaustion. Scotland Yard confirmed that police were called to a London hotel to assess her mental state. I hope the poor dear is o.k.

Why do you think her brother wanted to pull her out at the beginning, saying she was too big for the show. He wanted her to make a record right away. Maybe he was right!

ArielAZ: an article I saw said family and neighbors were taking care of Pebbles.

I defy anyone not to be emotionally distraught when every day it's splashed over the media (world-wide) that you're brain damaged, that you're frumpy, weird, hairy etc, etc.. What in God's Holy Name is wrong with this world? If I had to face a backlash like that day in day out I'd be consumed with Paranoia by now. How can anyone be subjected to that and still be able to hold their head up? Right now I'm ashamed to be a member of this human race!
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
Yes, IvoryMist, I agree with you 100%. The labeling of Susan should stop. I hope after the clinic, Susan's family will take her away and let her rest.

Borderline personality, phooey. She is diametrically apposed to that diagnosis. What she has is a temper. And she's a fighter who won't be pushed around. I was thrilled to hear about her altercation with the paparazzi. Now I know she can defend herself against what is to come. And you can see she already dominates Simon and Piers. She just needs to get control of the incredible power she has now and learn how to use it. What a double standard. If Mick Jagger and John Lennon can tell people where to put it, why can't Susan? No one called them psycho.

Great ideas for the header for Susan's Fansite. I think so far, I like #3. Her lovely smile and classy title. I have just read on the "Hometown etc." video, that Susan has been taken to hospital suffering from exhaustion. I do hope she recovers quickly after a good rest. Poor Pebbles must wonder where she is. Get well soon, Susan!
Posted by MorgantownWV on May 31, 2009
Exactly Wenvas. I think she is pretty strong. The tabloids are simply trying to blame her struggles on her disabilities instead of their viscious attacks.
Posted by Noelle on May 31, 2009
Kudos on those comments, ARIELAZ and IVORYMIST! Susan was bullied by kids as a child. The worst thing about the tabloid mongrels is that they've probably given her flashbacks and she's got some PTSD going on.
Posted by wenvas on May 31, 2009
I have no (medical) authority to base my opinion on but why admit her to a mental clinic. Surely she should have been released from this circus (BGT) and allowed to go home where she's in familiar surroundings amongst family and friends...what are they doing to her!
Posted by Neil37 on May 31, 2009
Susan was found to be in a distressed state at her hotel at approx 6pm BST Sunday night. It is definately confirmed by police that she was taken away under mental health act but it is not certain at this moment wether she has been taken to famous celebrity clinic The Priory.

Susan needs to rest & recoup. She's been on an emotional roller coaster since April. She's tired, stressed out, etc. She came out on that stage at the final, sang perfect & from the heart. Then, she graciously accepted Diversity's win. A true professinal!! She didn't let her emotions get in the way of her performance or accepting 2nd (Ugh) place. What a lady!!! Now, she deserves a good rest & needs to be pampered for a change. She'll be all the better for it, just wait & see. The tabloids are going to have a field day of course. As long as she has the right people around her, taking care of her, & guiding her, she will be ok in the long run. Bless her!!

I just emailed that sleezy tabloid in London-The Sun-and told them what I thought of their disgusting headlines concerning Susan. Now they are saying she was hospitalized because she came in 2nd! Maybe if we all kept emailing them they might get the point. They are responsible for her hospitalization. They owe her a public apology!
Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
Wenvas, I agree with you. This world is sick !!! I posted to Piers that it was disgusting how the media puts everyone on a pedestal and turns right around and tries to destroy them. All any of us wanted was for Susan to have her dream. We need to keep praying for her.

Someone who is impoverished and can't afford a "makeover" How is she supposed to have come on the first show looking like a million bucks when she was UNEMPLOYED? Please stop riding Susan's back trying to pick her apart or get off this blog!!!

At times when I've had to be in hospital (for surgery) I've fretted something dreadful to go home...knowing without doubt that I could recover better in my own familiar environment. Some people are like this when they're awqay from home and it's got nothing to do with brain damage. I'm sick to death of the media's continual focus on this.

Just don't over-medicate and take away our Susan. She should go to that wonderful shrink who helped Diana so much and helped her realize she was the strong one. She taught Diana how to recognize, control and use her power. Susan needs to reorganize her self image now and she can't do it alone. Just don't dope her up with tranquilizers. She has to think her way out of this.

I don't believe a single thing those tabloids say about Susan's state. And if we are her real friends, we shouldn't add to the tabloid hysteria, by trying to guess, what was going on with Susan during finals, by trying to find the right name for it - break-down,exhaustion, or whatever. I think, that her behaviour was perfectly normal and natural for anybody, who takes part in such competitions, and is in the focus of media attention. Let us hope for the best, and send our love to our Queen, our Star - our beloved Susan, and pray, that all this is just another tabloid lie.

Hi All. I just looked at the Susan original audition "I Dreamed a Dream" again. What a difference. She was so relaxed. She was smiling all the way through the performance. She sang like an angel. We should remember that, because that is what brought us all here. So we should stop picking her apart and don't believe anything the rag papers are saying about her.

I think the background of the banner needs to be very colorful, just as Susan is. This entire backgound should be a collarge of Susan's pictures, especially the one of her in the red sweater sitting on the hill. Beautiful. The words "I Dream a Dream" should be there on top somewhere with her original audition picture. SB fan site somewhere in bold print (like banner #1) and on the bottom the words "A New Day Has Begun" No black background. Susan's not morbid. It needs to be a happy uplifting banner. (another idea: musical notes floating around with a Susan picture in each note.) Just some thoughts.

Posted by mdillow31 on May 31, 2009
Scrooge, that is what I have been trying to say and that is to stop labeling Susan and leave it to the professionals.
Posted by Scrooge on May 31, 2009
Neil37: Why are you visualizing Susan as ill and in a clinic? How can this possibly be a supportive stance for anyone to take? Try seeing her as happy and healthy!!
Posted by 31Gallium31 on May 31, 2009
I agree, anything published by the Sun should be ignored, it's the National Enquirer all over again. Yeah, Susan probably is getting some sort of private medical attention. So? It's not the end of the world. What'll be the next crisis the rags cook up? It's silly to put much stock in most of this news gossiping. If her family does a press release, then that has real merit. Otherwise, reader beware.

Gosh, I keep telling myself I'm going to log off, but I find myself writing again. Folks, look how we all flocked here yesterday and today - between the two blogs there are nearly 2000 comments!! Because we all felt so let down and depressed after the show. I know I personally felt that way, and even though I told myself over and over, that it was all for the best, that Susan would have a BETTER career by not winning, it still stuck in my craw that the voting public would choose a dance troupe over this gem, this shining star. Just human nature. Now, I am not Susan. I am just a 40ish lady out here a continent away. I did not come in second, I did not have to put myself out there, go through auditions, ridicule, interviews, more performances, be away from home, more ridicule, etc etc etc. And yet *I* felt I needed tons of support from you guys! Is it ANY surprise at ALL that Susan needs some quiet time now??? Really? So many of us said we felt emotionally DRAINED...from WHAT? Sitting at our PCs? Given that, what IS amazing is that she hasn't had a complete meltdown and gone running naked through the country or something. Because I tell you, I was getting to that myself! Susan, you just rest up, and we'll be here for you whenever you are ready to come back!!

So it must be true that Susan has been taken to a clinic -- I don't know what a Brit "clinic" is, and I don't think we're going to get the truth until we hear directly from Susan or a member of her family. Are we all making unfair judgments trying to blame the tabloids, BGT, Simon, etc.? Why does someone or something have to be blamed -- it is as it is -- can we all just put it in God's hands (where it actually is anyway) and trust that God knows what She is doing?

Singer Susan Boyle has been rushed to the Priory following her shock defeat in the Britain's Got Talent final, it is reported.

The Scottish star was taken on Sunday night to the private clinic after show staff contacted police to say she was acting strangely at her London hotel, according to The Sun.

Officers were called to assist and Boyle was reportedly taken by ambulance to the Priory in Southgate, north London, escorted by police.

A Scotland Yard spokeswoman said: "Police were called to doctors assessing a woman under the Mental Health Act. The woman was taken voluntarily by ambulance to a clinic. At the request of doctors, police accompanied the ambulance."

Earlier on Sunday it emerged Boyle was taking time off on the advice of a doctor after losing to dance act Diversity in the ITV talent show.

Television company talkbackThames released a statement offering her "ongoing support" amid newspaper reports that she had run amok backstage after her loss shouting "I hate this show".

Shock winners Diversity had earlier praised the 48-year-old, nicknamed the Hairy Angel, for her generous behaviour in defeat. Choreographer Ashley Banjo, 20, said: "She was so gracious about it, she said the best act won and, backstage, she said she had seen something special. She was so nice about it."

Boyle has helped to ensure that the competition kept grabbing the headlines, and the final became the most watched television programme in the UK for five years.

ITV said it attracted nearly three-quarters of the TV audience, with a peak of 19.2 million viewers.

Diversity took 24.9% of the public vote in the final, above Boyle's 20.2% share. Just under four million people voted, ITV said.

About three weeks ago I dreamt that Susan had a nervous breakdown. I told my husband at the time so at least I know I have a witness. I always tell him my vivid dreams now as quite a few do come true. The other interesting part of the dream was that Simon was right behind her. In my dream he was in some way pivotal in giving her the support she needed to get through the breakdown. There are many different ways of providing support. I think this is actually a blessing in disguise for Susan. Without this public crisis she may have never had access to an exclusive level of health care. Maybe Susan will have her endocrine system looked at while she is in hospital - thyroid, pituitary and adrenal glands etc. Her appearance looks very different to that in earlier clips, more than just age, indicating it could be an endocrine problem and these can cause secondary psychiatric symptoms. Good luck Susan. I hope they get you sorted out so you can reach your potential. Kindest regards from an Aussie fan.

It's interesting that Simon will have a prominent role in her recovery. We all have those hard roads to walk from time to time, and the people who walk with us, are there for a reason. Simon will come out of this a very changed person. Isn't life a puzzle now and again?

In support of what I said previously "Mail online" has reported...

"Her friends and neighbours say Susan Boyle has been talking recently about her desire to return to her hometown of Blackburn, West Lothian, to pick up the threads of her old life.

Apparently she would like to resume her weekly custom of drinking a half of lemonade and trying her luck at the karaoke contest at Moran's Turf Bar on a Sunday night.

But for now she is in the care of a record label Sony BMG. Her family said yesterday that they did not know where she was, nor did they have her new phone number. They would dearly like to console her.But that task has instead been passed to a team from Sony BMG, who are offering legal advice, psychiatric counselling and management services.

Susan would probably find the best therapy to be a quiet fish-and-chip supper in her own front room, but any such down-to-earth activity is out of the question.

I am not surprised that our Susan is suffering from exhaustion. I would imagine she is broken-hearted at the way she has been patronized, insulted, betrayed by the pple she thought she could trust. The gutter-press is disgusting. I don't understand why (some) of the media has been so cruel to her. I am sure she finds it hard to understand. She is an innocent and surely not used to such dirty behaviour. She will have to learn the hard and sad way that she must stand up for herself and make sure she is not herded into a frantic program of appearances, tours etc. She will have to take time to get into the pace that she will be expected to follow. I think Paul Potts hasn't had time to sit down since her won BGT. I really feel for Susan and I do hope she will get well very soon. After all part of her dream is to sing for The Queen!!!

God bless you Susan....Judy in Canada

Okay,---this is complicated,----but here goes: I like Tommy's #2 Header,---but with SunnyinDeleware"'s picture of Susan (with that dear smile) as one photo---and the "Susan and Pebbles" photo for the second photo. Also prefer the Scottish flag in the center. And maybe in small letters below, in quotes, would be the "I'm among friends, am I not?" quote. That would totally do it for me! All the best elements combined into one! YuhHOO,---this is exciting!!

Number 4. Pebbles has to be a part of all of this. And, to Susan and her family, prayers for a speedy recovery. The need for rest and recoup is truly understandable. Seven weeks ago, we (the public) plucked this beautiful woman from relatively obscurity and launched her onto another planet (so to speak). The pressure has had to be unrelenting. Susan, #2 in BGT isn't bad at all. You already have a huge fan base and any promoter, agent, etc woudl be a fool to not take you on with kid gloves. Now, get in the studio and get recording. I have a dream to have my very own Susan Boyle CD very very soon. God bless.

All of the ideas that I have seen are really cool. Maybe find a way to incorporate them all. Any way I have a question, I am in USA and I have just heard from one of our news stations that they took Susan to a mental hospital because she had broken down after the show. Can any one shed some light on this for me, I hope to God she is ok. I suppose they would have had to put me there also after some of the public took their stabs and the rehearsing she had to do. I am just a little worried.

I vote for Header #1! I agree with the many folks that we don't need to be reminded about Britian Got Talent since now that is over and that "A new day has begun!" with her new career. She is going to be FAMOUS!!! I am sure the Queen is wishing Susan had won and doesn't want to see Diversity perform for her. They just won a measly $150 Grand, where Susan is going to be making Millions!!! Go Susan Go, Make Utah Proud! We love you Susan!

I second BrooklynBlessing's suggestion that we include Susan's telling words, "I'm among friends, am I not?"

Some of many scenarios that could have occurred on Sunday: 1. She had a hangover. Morgan says on his blog that the party lasted late into the night & had plenty of booze. Susan drinks lemonade at the karaoke bars. If she celebrated a bit too much with champagne, on top of the lack of food & sleep during the previous week, she could well have been dizzy & staggering when she woke up with the room spinning around. I haven't had many hangovers, but I sure didn't behave normally with one. 2. She could have been suffering from sleep deprivation. That also can make people do weird things--stagger around, bump into things, and put your bifocals in the freezer. Guilty of all the above. 3. Under stress, a person can get something called "transient global amnesia". It usually occurs once in a lifetime, lasts around 24 hours, and has no known aftereffects. You can carry on a normal day's tasks, and remember absolutely nothing about what happened (again my own experience) or you can drive the people around you nuts because you don't remember anything from one moment to the next. you know who you are but not where you are, what time it is, or anything else that's been said or done in the last couple of minutes.

These are all examples of being "out of it" that occur to everyday people. They can screw up your blood pressure, and cause physical damage if you run into or trip over something. They are NOT signs of mental illness.

What I'm getting at here, is that we don't have sufficient information to know what if enything happened on Sunday, or where she was taken outside of the hotel. Since people in GB have been sleeping for the last 6 or 7 hours, her family's obviously not responding. Let's just wait till we get the facts.

BTW, the interview purporting to be right before she was taken to the hospital was not; it was from a week ago, after the semi-finals. Susan says "finals" at the beginning when she means sem-finals; listen to the rest of the tape & you'll see.

I like the suggestion way up there of letting Susan choose her favorite banner.

In my opinion, this is what we should be looking at rather than the Sun and its spawn. I'd like to see an investigation into the calls & their origin during the voting.

I am very concerned for Susan Boyle. She needs to be surrounded by family and friends. The pressure has been just awful.

On, the other hand, I'm quite suspicious of the results of the contest. Susan beat Diversity in the Semi-finals. Also, their act was worse than their audition and Flawless was much better. I also raise an eyebrow at Simon's comment that Diversity was the only act that receives a 10 out of 10?????? I read today that Michael Jackson is coming to London and there are hopes that Diversity can dance backup for him . . . convenient. I'm just having a very hard time believing the outcome.

Susan- How refreshing to see someone like herself overcome so many obstacles and challenges she's faced..Sadly, it makes me so frustrasted how the media tries to portray her in a negative way. There is always these negative people out there who i believe lead such miserable and unhappy lives, that they want anyone who has any happiness or success to be dragged down in the mud with them.. Whatever is going on with Susan, i hope she shows them all how strong i believe she really is and comes shining through like a new sparkling diamond. Whether she won 1st or 2nd place..she's a winner to me.

All news commentary alluding to Susan's post-finals breakdown and admittance to psych hospital are stemming from the Sun, a tabloid mongrel. Take it with a grain of salt and wait for fam to wake up and give real scoop, because they probably have Susan somewhere private and safe where she can get some much needed rest and recoup from bad press and stress.

You folks rock! Thanks WildOldDan for your needed wisdom. And as ever, thanks to updates esp from Tweek and Mdillow31. I can't cope being here for long or I'll go bankrupt in a day if I don't buckle down to work.

Like many of you, I sensed Susan's fatigue and physical weariness on stage, but, as brave as a champion our Susan is, she pulled through. I'm also trying to avoid going to the rag news, it further depresses. I'm sure she took her defeat like a champion, a good sport.

Let's all pray that she's indeed in good hands and resting... and with family and loved ones available.

It this fansite is indeed standing firm as "THE" genuine Susan Boyle Site" then we have to be collectively strong, unscathed by all these proliferating lies, in order to support her. It'll definitely help a lot if this site is supported by correct channel of information rather than hunches in all direction. All because of Susan, we have come to together here from all over the world. If she needs more support and love, then we have to show the world in concrete ways than just here. I'm sure our thoughts here will lighten her up.

This is my first time to ever belong to any fansite, and being so, I was proud to mention it to some of my friends, some of them actually British, that what I like here is that people, from my experience, are genuinely honest and warm, aside from being creative and talented, so I believe. And that we don't bad-mouth. Well, yesterday, I got an email from her saying that it's not so esp about the bad-mouthing.

To make the long story short, I eventually explained that she (one of my friends) probably came to our Fansite the day after Susan's garnerning #2. Naturally, our love for Susan heavily surfaces, and it's normal to do all kinds of venting... close family members do it.

Having said this, folks, Tweek or anyone here, is there a way of monitoring this site so non-members can't just enter some of out exchanges or resources? I'm just concern. Ok, I better get back to work. Best to you all.

Let us all say a prayer for Susan. It's been an incredible six weeks for her. She's gone from little village being a single, semi-reclusive unknown lady to a world wide sensation after singing ONE SONG. She's amazing and I am so thankful I had the opportunity to hear her sing. What a gift she has to share with the world. I'm sorry she didn't win the show, but in my heart -- SHE NUMBER ONE. I wish her endless blessings, surrounded by dear friends and I hope she is able to escape from the media for a short while to get some rest - physically and mentally. I look forward to hearing more songs from her. I'll be first in line here in Denver, Colorado when her album comes out.

I had tears of joy when I first saw Susan preform 7 weeks ago and now I have tears of sorrow over Susan's breakdown. I hold the people that upset her responsible for this happening to her. Shame on them. I just hope and pray that Susan recovers stronger then she was before all this happen to her. Frankly no one would have been able to stand up under the pressure Susan has been under since we all fall in love with her. Please get well soon. We all love you Susan. All 100 MILLION of us!!!! Wouldn't it be wonderful if--as someone suggested on this site--if Susan could reunite with her old voice coach to begin some more lessons with him? Also, he would know of others who could aid Susan. I should imagine that some voice coaches would be willing to take Susan on GRATIS. I hope that no one presses Susan to do anything she does not want to do. I just love her, her voice, her personality, her natural appearance, and--most especially--her Christian faith and triumph over adversity in life! I hope that the Queen will request a private performance from Susan. I believe that her future with her voice is up to the good Lord and to Susan. After all the taunting during childhood due to her learning disabilty caused by brain damage (oxygen deprivation during birth), God has enabled her to develop the gift for singing that He gave her to a far greater degree than anyone who knew her locally could ever have expected. The Lord will remain faithful to Susan as long as Susan remains faithful to Him. I admire her not only as the magnificent vocalist whom she is but also for her refreshing and ready wit. I do like the idea of "A New Day Has Begun" with Susan's triumphant portrait taken from her very last performance. I'm glad that I found this Susan-Boyle.com fan website even though I came across it a bit late.

There is no comparison to a dance troup and a fabulous singer. Susan will indeed make much money, many songs and singing engagements and undoubtable do much better than if she had won. I think she should still be able to sing for the Queen. I would buy her music and can't wait. Get better Susan, the world needs a "real" person such as you. Peace be with you...

Susan Boyle From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia Jump to: navigation, search Susan Boyle

Background information Born 1 April 1961 (1961-04-01) (age 48) Origin Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland Instrument(s) Vocals Susan Margaret Boyle (born 1 April 1961)[1][2][3] is a Scottish[4] singer who came to public attention when she appeared as a contestant on the third series of Britain's Got Talent, and ended up the runner up of the 2009 edition of the show.[5] Boyle became known when she sang "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables in the competition's first round,[6] first broadcast in the United Kingdom on 11 April 2009.[7] In the final of Britain's Got Talent, Boyle finished in second place, behind dance troupe Diversity.

Boyle attended Edinburgh Acting School and also took part in the Edinburgh Fringe. Prior to her appearance on Britain's Got Talent, her main experience had come from singing in church and karaoke in the local pubs in her village. She had also tried out several times for My Kind of People.[8]

When she appeared on the Britain's Got Talent stage, the audience and the judges appeared apprehensive and judgmental of her unpolished appearance. Upon finishing her song, she received a standing ovation from the live audience and unanimous praise from the judges.[9] She has been dubbed "The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell".[3]

The contrast between the audience's first impression of her when she appeared on stage compared to the ovation she received afterwards triggered global interest. Articles about her appeared in newspapers worldwide, while the numbers who watched videos of her audition have set an online record.[10] Within nine days of her televised debut, videos of her audition, subsequent interviews of her, and her 1999 rendition of "Cry Me a River" had been viewed a combined total of over 100 million times on the Internet.[11] Cowell is reported to be setting up a contract with Boyle with his Syco Music company label, a subsidiary of Sony Music.[12]

Biography

Personal life Susan Boyle was born 1 April 1961 in Blackburn, West Lothian, Scotland,[13] to Pete Boyle, a singer at the Bishop's Blaize, and Bridget, a shorthand typist,[14] who were both Irish immigrants.[15] She was the youngest of four brothers and six sisters.[13] Born when her mother was 47,[13][16][17] Boyle was briefly deprived of oxygen during the difficult birth; she was diagnosed as having learning difficulties.[4] She says she was bullied as a child,[13][18] and was nicknamed "Susie Simple" at school.[19]

After leaving school with few qualifications,[13] she was employed for the only time in her life as a trainee cook in the kitchen of West Lothian College for six months,[19] and took part in government training schemes.[14] She visited the theatre from time to time to listen to professional singers,[14] and performed at a number of local venues.[4] Boyle remained active as a volunteer with the Roman Catholic church of Our Lady of Lourdes in Blackburn.[18]

Boyle still lives in the family home, a four-bedroom council house, with her ten-year-old cat, Pebbles.[13] Her father died in the 1990s, and her siblings had left home. As she never married, Boyle was devoted to looking after her ageing mother until she died in 2007 at the age of 91.[16] She said during an interview just before she sang on the talent show that she had "never been kissed" but later said "It was just banter and it has been blown way out of proportion."[13][20] Boyle's devotion to her mother meant that she did not have any time for herself.[16] A neighbour reported that when Bridget Boyle died, her daughter "wouldn't come out for three or four days or answer the door or phone."[16]

Early singing Boyle took singing lessons from voice coach Fred O'Neil.[13] She attended Edinburgh Acting School, and took part in the Edinburgh Fringe.[4] Some early video clips of her performances came to light: in 1984, Boyle stood in with "The Way We Were" at Motherwell FC Social Club;[21] at 25 years of age, Boyle was filmed singing "I Don't Know How to Love Him" from Jesus Christ Superstar at her parents' golden wedding party.[22] In 1995, she sang the same song in an audition for Michael Barrymore's My Kind of People[4] at the Olympia Shopping Centre in Glasgow. She said she was too nervous to make a good impression,[14] but her brother Gerald believes they rejected her due to her image.[8] An amateur video shows Barrymore was apparently more interested in mocking her.[23]

In 1999 she recorded "Cry Me a River" for a charity CD funded by the local council to commemorate the Millennium[13][24] and produced at a school in Whitburn, West Lothian. Only 1,000 copies of the CD, entitled Music for a Millennium Celebration, Sounds of West Lothian, were pressed.[25] In what is the first known review of Boyle's singing ability, a reviewer for the West Lothian Herald & Post said that Boyle's rendition of "Cry Me a River" was "heartbreaking", and "had been on repeat in my CD player ever since I got this CD..."[26][27] This recording was released onto the web in the week after 11 April 2009, and gained immediate acclaim: the New York Post writing that this showed that Boyle was not a "one trick pony" and predicted the original compilation would be a valuable collector's item.[28] Hello! stated that the recording "cement[ed] her status" as a singing star.[29]

In 1999, Boyle used "all her savings" to pay for a professionally cut demo tape, which she later sent to record companies, radio talent competitions, local and national TV; Boyle gave away a few copies to her close friends. The demo tape consisted of her versions of "Cry Me a River" and "Killing Me Softly with His Song" and was released onto the Internet after her audition.[30]

Boyle won several local singing competitions, and her mother tried to persuade her daughter to enter Britain's Got Talent, urging her to take the risk of singing in front of an audience larger than her parish church.[6] Former coach O'Neil has said Boyle abandoned an audition for The X Factor because she believed people were being chosen for their looks, and that she almost abandoned her plan to enter Britain's Got Talent. O'Neil persuaded her to go to the audition despite her telling him "...she was too old and that it was a young person's game".[31] Boyle said that it was her mother's death which motivated her to go on Britain's Got Talent and seek a musical career to pay tribute to her mother.[13] Her performance on the show was the first time she had sung in public since then.[32][33]

Britain's Got Talent Main article: Britain's Got Talent (series 3) In August 2008, Boyle applied for an audition for the third series of Britain's Got Talent, and was accepted after a preliminary audition. Boyle auditioned in Glasgow, Scotland. Boyle performed a rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" from Les Misérables in the first round of the third series of Britain's Got Talent, which was watched by over 10 million viewers when it aired on 11 April 2009.[34] This performance was widely reported, and tens of millions of people viewed a video of her singing on YouTube.[34] Boyle was "absolutely gobsmacked" by the strength of this reaction.[35]

“ I know what they were thinking, but why should it matter as long as I can sing? It's not a beauty contest. ” – Susan Boyle, The Sunday Times[13] Boyle is well aware that the audience on Britain's Got Talent was initially hostile to her because of her appearance, but she has refused to change her image.[13]

When Boyle first appeared on Britain's Got Talent, she said that she aspired to become a musical theatre singer "as successful as" Elaine Paige.[36] Since the appearance, Paige has expressed interest in singing a duet with Boyle,[36] and has called her "a role model for everyone who has a dream".[37] Cameron Mackintosh, the producer of the Les Misérables musical, also praised the performance, as "heart-touching, thrilling and uplifting".[34]

She was one of 40 acts that were put through to the semi-finals.[38] She appeared last on the first semi-final on 24 May 2009, performing "Memory" from Lloyd Webber's Cats in front of a global audience of millions.[39] In the public vote she was the act to receive the highest number of votes and go through to the final, along with dance group Diversity.[40][41] In the end, however, she ended up in second place to Diversity.

Media impact

News media Many British newspapers carried articles on Boyle's performance and subsequent Internet coverage. The Sun writer Colin Robertson gave her the nickname "Paula Potts" in reference to the contest's Series one winner, the opera singer Paul Potts.[42] In the U.S., several commentators also drew parallels between Boyle's performance and that of Paul Potts, an unexpected Britain's Got Talent success story; Forbes magazine predicted Boyle could follow in Potts' footsteps and enjoy a successful and profitable career.[43] ABC News hailed "Britain's newest pop sensation", and its Entertainment section headlined Boyle as "The Woman Who Shut Up Simon Cowell."[3]

International news outlets also carried stories on her, including among others, The Times of India,[44] Germany's Der Spiegel,[45] China's Xinhua News Agency,[46] Brazil's Zero Hora,[47] Israel's Ynet,[48] and the Arabic-language Al Arabiya.[49]

TV shows Within the week following her performance on Britain's Got Talent, Boyle was a guest on STV's The Five Thirty Show.[50] She was interviewed via satellite on CBS's Early Show,[24] ABC's Good Morning America,[51] NBC's Today and via a telephone interview on FOX's America's Newsroom.[51][52]

Boyle also appeared via satellite on CNN's Larry King Live during which fellow guest Piers Morgan apologised to her for not giving her "anything like the respect" she deserved when she walked out on the BGT stage.[53] Boyle performed an a cappella verse of "My Heart Will Go On" on King's show which stunned Morgan.[54] On 11 May 2009 Boyle appeared via satellite on The Oprah Winfrey Show, with Simon Cowell sitting in with Oprah and commenting on the background of the historical performance by Boyle.

Social media Websites such as YouTube, Facebook and Twitter have been crucial in facilitating Boyle's rapid rise to fame:[4] The most popular YouTube video submission of her audition garnered nearly 2.5 million views in the first 72 hours.[55] On the day following the performance, the YouTube video was the most popular article on Digg.[56] The same video was judged so popular on Reddit that it was put on the site's main page.[57] Within a week, the audition performance had been viewed more than 66 million times, setting an online record, while on Wikipedia her biographical article attracted nearly half a million page views.[10] A total of 103 million video views on 20 different websites was reached within nine days.[11] The Los Angeles Times wrote that her popularity on YouTube may in part be due to the broad range of emotion packed into a short clip which was "perfect for the Internet".[58]

Social analysis “ Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances. [...] There is not much you can do about it; it is the way they think; it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example. ” – Susan Boyle, The Washington Post[6] Boyle's sudden fame drew much commentary on why this story was so widely reported and what it implies, while others drew moral lessons from people's reactions to her performance.[59] For instance, writing in The Herald, Collette Douglas-Home described Boyle's story as a modern parable and a rebuke to people's tendency to judge others based on their physical appearance.[60] Similarly, Lisa Schwarzbaum, in an article in Entertainment Weekly, said that Boyle's performance was particularly moving as it was a victory for talent and artistry in a culture obsessed with physical attractiveness and presentation.[61]

Following Boyle's rendition of the song judge Amanda Holden remarked upon the audience's initially cynical attitude, and the subsequent "biggest wake-up call ever" they had received upon hearing her performance.[62] Echoing Holden's comments, The Washington Post's Jeanne McManus said that one of the main sources of drama in talent shows was the collision between performers' sometimes exaggerated sense of self-worth and the opinions and reactions of their audience.[63] In Boyle's case, McManus believed that her initial demeanour and homely appearance caused the judges and audience to be "waiting for her to squawk like a duck".[63] Indeed, New York's Daily News said that it was this stark contrast between the audience's low expectations and the quality of her singing that made Boyle's performance such an engaging piece of television.[64] This article also noted that the idea of an underdog being ridiculed or humiliated but then enjoying an unexpected triumph is a common trope in literature and that this is why, when this theme made its unscripted appearance in reality television, it created an enduring and powerful effect.[64]

Although the audience's reaction was unscripted, it may have been anticipated. Mark Blankenship of the The Huffington Post noted that the producers of the show would have been aware of the potential of this story arc, by deliberately presenting Boyle in a manner that would enhance this initial reaction.[65] He does note, however, that "as fabricated as it is, her on-camera arc is undeniably moving".[65] The fact that Boyle is in her forties has also been cited as contributing to this strong emotional impact. In another Huffington Post article, Letty Cottin Pogrebin wrote that although people may "weep for the years of wasted talent", Boyle's performance was a triumph for "women of a certain age" over a youth culture that often dismisses middle-aged women.[66]

Tanya Gold wrote in The Guardian that the difference between Boyle's hostile reception and the more neutral response to Paul Potts in his first audition reflected society's expectation that women be both good-looking and talented, with no such expectation existing for men.[67] In a similar vein, Mary Elizabeth Williams wrote on Salon.com that Boyle's sudden fame came from her ability to remind her audience that, like them, she was a normal, flawed and vulnerable person, familiar with disappointment and mockery, but who nevertheless has the determination to fight for her dream.[68] R.M. Campbell, music critic for The Gathering Note compared her to Ella Fitzgerald, in that "[... it's] really, really hard to make a career if a woman isn't attractive. [...] The very fact that she is ordinary could help in improving her future success."[69] Los Angeles vocal coach Eric Vetro stated "She's an everywoman as opposed to an untouchable fantasy goddess, so maybe that's why people react to her. [...] They say, 'She's one of us, but look how talented she is.'"[70]

Several media sources have commented that Boyle's success seemed to have particular resonance in the United States. A US entertainment correspondent was quoted in The Scotsman comparing Boyle's story to the American Dream, as representing talent overcoming adversity and poverty.[71] The Associated Press described this as Boyle's "hardscrabble story", dwelling on her modest lifestyle and what they saw as urban deprivation in her home town.[33] Similarly, The Independent New York correspondent David Usborne wrote that America is a country that will always respond to "the fairy tale where the apparently unprepossessing suddenly becomes pretty, from Shrek to My Fair Lady".[72] Piers Morgan, one of the show's judges, also commented on the unusual power this story seemed to have in the US, noting that "Americans can be very moved by this sort of thing", and likening Boyle's rise to fame from poverty and obscurity to that of the fictional boxer Rocky Balboa.[58]

Cultural references Boyle's widespread Internet success and her appeal in reaching out to millions of people across the world, has meant that she has become a cultural icon in a relatively short time. For instance, Boyle's rendition of "I Dreamed a Dream" has been credited with causing a surge in ticket sales in the Vancouver production of Les Misérables.[73][74] Boyle has also been portrayed humorously (in drag) by American comedian Jay Leno, who jokingly claimed that they were related through his mother's Scottish heritage.[75]

The American cartoon show South Park made a reference to Susan Boyle in the episode "Fatbeard", which aired on 22 April 2009;[76][77] the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon show aired a comedy sketch showing the "feel good" effect that Susan Boyle's performance has had on people;[78] The Simpsons aired a new commercial for their 20th anniversary show "Springfield's Got Talent", in which Homer Simpson talks about his dreams to be as successful as Boyle. [79][80] A European trailer for the video game The Sims 3 includes a character mocked up as Boyle receiving praises from other in-game characters, wishing her "good luck".[81]

God Bless Susan and speedy recovery !Rest assured that whilst yes, Susan is exhausted and has been admitted for a rest, and the other stuff is just the usual media hype to cause a sensation. Just read about Amy Winehouse who's also having problems with her fame and media bullying....now she's turned to alcohol !Not an easy life even for a youngster like her. Susan will be just fine after a good rest

Good Morning All. 5:00am in Tallahassee. dellygal and BohemianSpirit, Amen to both of you. You have said it so well and I think and feel exactly the same. Thank you. I'm afraid we will have to go on repeating it though. People, you all are doing worse this morning than last night. Get a grip. And what do we have to say to convince you that reading the tabloids and the other papers and tv news that just copy them is not beneficial to Susan or yourselves or to us. No matter how badly we want to know about Susan, seeking out all this stuff is not going to tell anyone anything reliable. We just have to be patient. And I do ask you again, if you insist on doing it, don't put it on here. We all know how to look for this if we want to. Yes, I can try not to read what you write, except in looking through the posts for worthwhile comments, there is no way to skim fast enough to avoid seeing some of it. I bow to no one in my love and concern for Susan, but loving and supporting her does not mean passing around trash information and working ourselves into a frenzy. Or talking about her as if she is a case number in a mental facility. Let us not be "winter soldiers and sunshine patriots" so to speak regarding Susan, and throw our hands up and say the sky is falling. Respect, people, respect for Susan. I have faith in Susan that with rest and being freed from the hell she was surrounded with last week, and the time to deal with the hurt and disillusionment of how she was treated she will get back to health. Our job is to go on with our functions as her No.1 fan group, work on the banners, plan for better days.

Posted by Bohemian Spirit on May 31, 2009 No, Happy, I don't agree with how you are interpreting Susan's "antics." I didn't find her audition behavior "quite disturbing," I didn't find her dances "uncomely," and I thought her behavior at the end of the last show was more amusing and admirably defiant than "crude."...etc. etc.

BS, that's no BS You are right again, IMHO, and it seems to be a habit of yours. Shocking that she's honest enough to speak her mind and enjoy herself! Susan is a real human as lovebites might say. And she's a very fine real human at that. Not many can say over 200 million people fell in love with them in a few weeks.

I don't know where else to put this, except on this blog where it for whatever reason did get mentioned. I'd like to say my piece, then I'll not bring it up again. Just so happens I know a LOT about 'borderline personality disorder'--what it is, and isn't. How its definition has greatly changed over time, to the point that even the DSM-V is in the process of modifying its absurdly outdated 'definition'.

The term certainly doesn't apply to liars, manipulators, or bullies, and many with it have GREAT empathy, not a lack thereof. It's far more about lack of identifiable 'self', an inability to cope with severe stress because it physically HURTS so much (hence the cutting or burning, to escape the psychological torment), and the 'splitting' of others into 'all white' and 'all black' at various times, in lieu of being able to experience others as complex, possessing both good and bad qualities. 'Freaking out' over what should appear to be minor little upsets, differences in routine, is sometimes also key, but those can signal something else entirely. It isn't even a 'personality disorder', which is why a lot of us are trying to get the DSM-V definition changed, from an Axis II definition to Axis I. It's almost always (but not quite) limited to those suffering abuse from an early age--lots of it.

Susan doesn't display most of those tendencies that I've noticed. However (and I speak from some experience on this), I have watched all the video clips, listened to all the interviews, etc, and I've noticed a few other little tendencies. Suffice it to say that if I could spend a bit of time with Susan, I'd know for sure, because I can 'feel' something in another person, if 'it' is there.

You see, 'it' never fails me. I can even feel what that other person is feeling, under certain circumstances. I don't try to sense anything, it just happens. Sometimes I can pick up a bit of 'it' just through watching someone on television, or listening to them on audio. I cannot force this to work, and so far, I'm unable to turn 'it' off, but I've learned that what it is, is a kind of empathic 'gift' which for me is still untrained. I almost wish I didn't have 'it' at all, but I do.

Susan appears to possibly have a mild type of bipolar II thing going on, which rears its head during particularly stressful events in her life. I could be wrong, but based on what I've seen and heard, I can't help but take notice of it. All that this really means is, it's a good idea for her to take it easy and not allow herself to be taken to extremes, or be forced to have to put up with a bunch of cr*p such as she's been through recently. 'Inner strength' has nothing to do with it. It's all in the way her brain happens to be hard-wired. The one big 'crossover' between borderline and bipolar is that 'freaking out' thing I mentioned earlier; it can occur in either, hence the tendency for even the pros to not know 'what to call it' and to often misdiagnose. I don't think much of docs who diagnose these things anyhow; most dunno what they are talking about. THEY have never experienced either condition, so how can they know?

That whole bipolar business does exist on a long spectrum; most folks with the mildest forms never require more than simply figuring out what their 'triggers' are and then avoiding excesses. I don't even see it as an 'illness', but rather a 'shining'; there are aspects of it which can truly be a gift. A multitude of creative and performing artists have at least a touch of it, which is why they are so incredibly good at what they do.

I have a bit of it myself. Or 'they' say I do--not positive if that is really what 'it' is, but I can sure spot the same 'it' in others. I call it a 'shining' because those having 'it' appear to me in brighter colors--much brighter than other people around them who don't have 'it'. I have run into others who can do this, as well. And I do not think we are 'crazy', at all.

I'm not even speaking of the really nutty bipolar I, with the huge swings from deep depression into wildest mania, but the more subtle stuff. Susan has remarked about having had a few problems with depression and anxiety--I doubt it really began just when her mum died, but that may have brought about an episode or whatever. There are forms where one can have little hypomanias that might feel good, or instead, can make one feel downright irritable. But generally they are not gonna put anybody into hospitals. Often, one's impulse control during the 'higher' end of such events kinda goes temporarily out the window, but not in the worst of ways. Most folks have more 'lower' moods than 'higher' but that varies a lot, as do the cycling periods, which can vary from once or twice a year, to several times per day! Some (like me) have no impulse control issues at all, but we can feel just awful inside for prolonged periods, and need a bit of medication help at times to help ease things along.

My own 'claim' to all this is, being born with a brain having something akin to a mild epilepic-like condition, though 'they' refused to call it that. I used to pass out cold all the time, and didn't begin getting over it until age 16. Also, had little 'blank-out' periods. Mine is a minor form of 'brain damage', for sure. I've no idea what caused it, in me, as I was adopted at birth, the records totally sealed forever. I grew up being constantly monitored with EEGs, and those were never anywhere near 'normal', lol.

Many folks born with a lack of enough oxygen are left with some minor brain impairments. Just because such can be considered 'brain damage' doesn't make it mental retardation or mental illness. But it causes differences from the norm in one's brain. Some areas can be much smaller, or non-existent, while others flourish and grow larger. Once in a while, such a brain has an area which really goes wild, and a tremendous talent for something artistic, or mathematical, etc, can result. This phenomenon is still being studied. The jury is still out, on 'why'.

The major problem with such minor brain damage is, the propensity for developing one of the many minor forms of so-called bipolar disorder, and having along with it ADD or ADHD, some learning difficulties, etc. It is COMMON. People learn to live with these issues, and if necessary, take a proper medication in order to feel more comfortable and function better, but only if they can do so without getting more side effects than very good effects. Medications aren't always the best policy, and are based upon how one feels, how one can best live a good and full life. Most folks do very well despite having these issues, even those having the worst forms of them.

The professionals really need to come up with some new naming categories for brain differences falling along the bipolar spectrum though, because they're entirely physical, can generally be viewed in MRI scans, and are nothing to have to feel bad about, other than realizing how a non-understanding society tends to view those differences.

So--a post totally unrelated to what this blog is all about--and this really is the only time I'm gonna write such a 'comment'.

Now, then--getting back to 'blog reality' here...I like first one of the headers, then another, and can't make up my mind. There sure are some talented folks here, to come up with what we have so far! I can't wait to see more.

Hi, me again, sorry! I think your new header should have nothing to do with BGT. Susan hates the show, and the people on the show seem intent on exploiting her as far as they can before she drops dry. My suggestion is to have no pictures at all from the show and no words from grim lyrics that other people wrote. Susan needs a fansite that simply believes she is the "Best Singer Ever" and a site which has zero tolerance for condescension and merciful responses to her physical appearance. A fansite should be about enjoying the star as he or she is, and not as compensation for what they missed being in other people's opinions. A fansite for Susan should undertake to protest any and all unfair and tasteless news reports by pointing out in a formula way that Susan is off limits to this kind of thing. Let's call this type of treatment, discrimination against women, marital status, belief, spirituality, freedom of speech and the disabled. We'll find some use for political correctness in this case.
Posted by BJG on June 01, 2009
I am all for deleting BGT from Susan's fansite. RE:Header which "should have nothing to do with BGT."But I'd keep the songs -- they are at the core of what she has given us so far. And I suspect there is a 3rd song that goes with the first two -- so the three together are a little story, just as each song in itself is a little story. We have to watch for those stories once she starts singing again! It will be clever -- I think it will be triumphant!

ALLI, you're very well-informed on the BPD I and II issues. I know because I deal with it myself. I have a milder form of BPD II. I have 2 g/daughters, one with BPD I (a total ray of sunshine but wildly impulsive) and the other with BPD II. I myself have learned to use the more manic periods for creative endeavors and have taught myself to design crocheted items, for which I write the patterns to sell hopefully in the future, finally perhaps to see my little dreams fulfilled. I've had to put this talent on hold for decades until I was no longer working and my family was finally raised and on their own and I could give my attention more fully to this without distractions.

Out of curiosity, at one point, I googled up an image of the brain activity going on with someone with BPD. Rather than activity going on here and there in the brain, as it goes with normal brain activity, the image showed that the BPD brain was lit up with activity almost wholly. Can you imagine the stress of having to catch up with all the thoughts and processes that are zipping around in that cranium??!! LOL! Yes, I guess you can.

Even though there's a new blog, I assume this is the one to post for the headers. I just want to re-iterate my earlier post. All of the headers are lovely, but I really really really really really want to keep that little picture of Susan (in the upper right on header 4) as she was when we first met her. Just an endearing little lady with a voice that broke our collective hearts. That is the moment we all remember and that is the moment we should all never forget. When she was still an innocent lass from the village, with the voice of an angel.

Bohemian Spirit's is fantastic but I would replace that picture with Picture 3 and also put in "Second to None"

What a fantastic idea!!! I love everyone's enthusiasm and the way each person here cares about Susan and we all want the best for HER! Three cheers for any human being on the planet today who could pull that one off!!!

I posted a variation of my banner (#1, above) replacing "Susan's Got Talent" with "Among Friends"--because on her fansite, at least, she IS among friends, is she not? :-D

http://www.susan-boyle.com/image/SusanBoyleHeaderbsbeta02-jpg

Also, I just noticed at least one comment about the "black space" above and below the banners. That's just the way it ends up looking when we submit banner images to this site: the image size is fixed, so it ends up scrunching the image small enough to fit in that size, then adds black border space around the image to fill the gaps. Each banner will actually be just the long rectangle across the middle of the black box.

Susan Boyle is so very BRAVE!!! She faired better than most single women would under so much pressure. Today, my husband and I wish here a speedy recovery and ineer peace to continue to follow her dream, whatever it may be. We hope Susan knows that Americans LOVE her as she is! Keep true to yourself DEAR SUSAN. We hope you will pursue a singing career, but either way you go, you have given us a glorious moment of spiritual delight. Thanks for the wonderful performances. Allikat, thanks for your comments above about Susan. All the more reason to pay no attention to the gossipmongers who want to make people think she went beserk or something. My life partner, Linda, has a mild tendency toward bipolar. And yes, she is very creative. When she is in a very stress ful situation for an extended period, she can get to the point where she gets very depressed, loses her temper way out of proportion, say a lot of things she shouldn't, and make impulsive, bad decisions. At different times, depending on how her work situation is, she needs medication for a period of time.

I think this was priceless: re Susan's exhaustion

"Talent Judge Piers Morgan went on TV and blabbed all about it, because no one really cares who won the competition, just how Susan’s doing."

Because it's so true! It's from another positive article on Susan hoping she'll get better soon. http://www.theinsider.com/news/2236233_Susan_Boyle_is_Tired

C'mon people stop with the labelling, I'm sorry for those who suffer from BPD or relativs of, but Susan underwent an extremely tiring, stressful period, with extreme highs and then extreme lows due to the tabloids and their vultures they call reporters and everything considered, she stood up to it better than anyone of use would have. She's just amazing. She's exhausted and all the stress has taken its toll. The lady's a rock, she'll be standing strong soon.

IMPORTANT NEWS FOR SUSAN: INVESTIGATION OF BGT FINALS"

I just listened to Brian Williams nightly newscast on NBC. It showed part of the final with Susan singing and her in the clinic The most important part of what Brian said... INVESTIGATION.. ENQUIRY....there were a lot of viewer complaints saying SUSAN was exploited for the sales and ratings.

I think BGT is in big trouble. Susan had her bags packed wanting t go home before Piers and Simon talked her out of it.

I am felt deeply sorry for her. I kept on thinking of her every minute, every second wherever I go. And whenever I think of her my tears rolled down my cheek. Even now as I am writing it still is. It melts my heart each time I read all the touching comments by fans around the world who was SOLIDLY behind her no matter what. We will all stand UNITED FOREVER. And she can count on us by our solid support for her as long as she still lives in this world. I cant get over it that the press every now and then tried to bully her and told alot of lies, attacking her and trying to assasinate her character. And also her terrible critics. Poor Susan. All she wanted is to be a professional singer like Ellaine Paige. Dream and Sing like Ellaine and to record her songs for her ears only to hear. Not that she wanted to win the BGT show and to be a celebrity. We, the public are the very one who felt so excited and wanted her to win the show after hearing her 1st auditon "I Dreamed A Dream" on 11.4.2009 that touched the hearts of tens of millions all over the whole wide world. All she wants is, "dream of wanting to SING infront of the Queen and to do some recordings of her songs for her ears only" repeat not to be a celebrity. SHE NEVER DECLARED SHE WANTS TO WIN THE BGT SHOW TO BE A CELEBRIY. All she wants is to "Dream" and sing infront of the Queen that's all and to do recordings of her songs. I beg you press and critics please leave her alone in peace. Why do you haters have to hate and bully her because of her being famous and loved by millions around the world. It's a sin to assasinate one's character. Susan, you will always be in our heart and prayers. We really love you. Once again take care of your health first. We want to let you know that we LOVE and CARE for you FOREVER AND EVER as long as you still live in this world. We will motivate you to go on with your life and be happy forever. Once again we wish you speedy recovery and on your feet again ASAP to do whatever you had wanted to do. Your dreams had already come true to do recordings of your songs. And we are very excited to buy your 1st album. And also to ensure you break the record of selling your 1st album like hot cakes into millions. I am confident the record breaking is there. God bless and keep you safe. Remember your health comes first. Do take care. Best and warm regards. Millions of Love, Kisses and hugs from me and fans here.
