Susan.. I am 45 from Melbourne, Australia..single live with my dogs. I also cared for my mother for many years till she passed 2 years ago. Yesterday was having a very bad day with life then caught a snip on the news re: you. I watched the clip and OMG...in just a few minuets you managed to fill me with hope, inspiration and overwhelm me with emotion..you truely have a GIFT, that is the only word I can think of. I have to say that performance blew me away. I mean, I have many friends who've told me about songs that make them cry, or tear up to say the least, but until this day I have not been able to give them an example of one for myself. Now I can :)

Look at these mimicking faces in the audience; says a lot about the people in the world. Jesus says that you shouldn't judge by appearance, but to judge righteous judgement; that being said, here's a lady that a lot of people would, out of vicious ignorance, laugh at, thinking that she's simple with nothing to offer; but often in life I've seen that what most people laugh at, THAT person only reveals those mocker's total ignorance. Watch as this lady stuns the senses of the audience and God once again Himself mocks the insensitive and ignorant; it's enough to make you cry.

I have been replaying Susan Boyle's audition several times in the last 2 days. Guess what? The more I play her video and listen to her singing, the more I grow to admire this most unassuming lady. Susan is the model and heroine of the normal masses... the majority of us who have ordinary lives, doing ordinary things and may be old, disabled, unemployed, fat, etc...She brings hope and light. I have been in the theatre for over fifty years, and have seen thousands of performances, from Zoe Caldwell in "The Prime of Miss Jean Brodie" to Patti LuPone in "Gypsy," but I expected greatness from them. There aren't words to describe the talent this beautiful young woman has. I saw the article on Yahoo's home page and went to watch it. About 30 views later, I still cannot get enough of this amazing woman. I hope that Susan finds her was to Texas so we can see her live. The whole world will want to witness her perform live. If she can move me to tears just from my computer monitor, I can only imagine what I would experience live. Only one songstress moves me like Susan Boyle does and that's Sarah Brightman. I was doing my homework and decided to take a quick internet break and browse and then I saw on yahoo.com a link about Susan, and so I decided to watch it. I fell in love with the song and her voice. I alike most...stupidly judged the book by it's cover...when will we as humans learn to love and respect all for who a person is? Even before she begun to sing,,,you can tell shes a fiesty likeable woman.. I couldnt watch it just once....I must have watched it 20 times.......I hope you win! I have watched the YouTube video at least 10 times. I cried every single time and I am not ashamed to admit it. What an inspiration and, at the same time, a critique against prejudgment. Fluff and slickness with lots of makeup and fancy wardrobe are the expected standard in entertainment. Susan has none of that, only pure talent. This was truly a reminder that talent is not the sole province of those who project an image of cuteness or outward beauty. In the contest between the inner soul and outward beauty Susan just showed the whole world that the inner soul wins! Her courage and determination to "Rock" her audience certainly provides an enduring role model to everyone who has had the distinct pleasure to hear her and see her. I will be standing in a very long line to get a copy of her first CD when it comes out.

Hi Susan! I can't stop watching your performance -- it brings tears every time. I've seen many great performers over the years in New York and London and I've never heard anything better than you were on that stage. What amazes me is that, in addition to THAT VOICE, your emotional delivery and stage presence were pefect. It was as if the song was written for you. Before she started singing she was just another contestant.

Three seconds after she started singing the audience fell in love with her voice, and after 18 seconds the ecstatic crowd were on their feet applauding.

After just one minute a star was born and we fell in love with her.

She just made me cry with her beautiful voice. Not bad for the effect she had on a 54 year old bloke!

Yes, undoubtably, this woman has a good voice. But, I'm afraid that the story would have been a lot different, if the public were not so patronising towards Downs (Syndrome).

It was clear, how they (the public) reacted when Ms. Boyle walked on stage. Mockery, laughter, and waiting for some dumb act after Ms. Boyle said she wanted to be like Elaine Paige.

Things soon changed. The attitude for one. Whether or not is was genuine remains a mystery. I personally think the public were ashamed into the positive reaction. It was over the top, and showed no "real" respect for Ms. Boyle as they "whooped and cheered" then "stood and screamed" at her as she tried so desperatley to finish her act.

If the public have real respect for her, they will remain reserved until the end. Once again, we seem to "pity the less fortunate" and are too quick in turning it around by showing over the top reactions, like "WELL DONE!", and patting her on the back like some kid at school that's just learnt their ABC's. STOP PATRONIZING the woman

Susan Boyle DESERVED that reaction, whether or not she is slightly different than the rest of us.

Yes, she can sing. And it's THAT which should get her through to the final, and NOT because of her "disability" and the "aww factor" from the public.

This is the first time I have heard anyone mention that Susan has a disability and too be honest I didn't notice anything unusual other than her eyes. The fact is that she is the best singing talent the UK has seen since Leona and Paul and I really hope she follows in their footsteps

I live just a few miles away from her village in a village about the size of Blackburn and its great to know that talent can come from such a place

you are an amazing singer! the beautiful tone of your voice is captivating and i am so grateful to you for sharing your gift with the world!

to "talent-spotter" who seems to be implying that the reaction ms. boyle got was done out of pity, you are dead wrong. then you say she deserved that reaction whether she is different or not. so, basically the audience was in a no-win situation with you. what is your problem?

i have world-class training and worked professionally as a vocalist for 18 years and have sung on albums that have sold millions of copies and sang in world-renowned concert halls all around the world. this is my business and i can tell you, this woman is better than 95% of the people i've worked with (including me!), whether she is disabled or not is irrelevant. her vocal control and pitch is impeccable. VERY few people are born with talent like that.

Magic. This performance was rather astonishing. The folks that I watched it with were in tears.

Personally, it reminded me of the effect that Edith Piaf has when she is singing.

I wonder why though that this wonderful lady's voice has not been discovered earlier. Because she is rather brilliant at what she does.

I don't like Mr. Cowell's show in general, however, because it reminds me of a Roman Amphitheater. But perhaps Ms Boyle might be one reason that I might keep watching it.

If she'd like to sign to a record label and take at least 80 per cent of the profit though, perhaps she'd like to sign to mine, rather than Sony BMG that seem to own Cowell and ITV. (Erm, that's against the rules of the comeptitition isn't it? - Ed.)

On a less political note, don't worry about being unemployed for long Susan. LOL! The talent will get you through! And I'm sure the offers are already in the mail!!!!

I am a 45 year old basketball trainer/coach. I cried when I watched the video...tears streaming down like shots being made in a game....i watched the video a dozen times and had tears and a lump in my throat each time. Susan Boyle has changed everyone who has watched her be a better person to not judge a book by its cover. I saw her at first and I was not negative toward her, but I didn't expect such beauty to emit from anywhere. Wonder who'll play Susan in the movie?

She does have an excellent voice. Couldn't hear it all that well in the video, what with the screaming and such from the crowd, though.

These sorts of shows are more like winning the lottery than earning a career. Nothing wrong with winning the lottery; I'd like to try that myself, sometime. ;-)

She was a hit because of flawless choice of music, and a rather ordinary appearance that belied her talent, and a pretty decent voice, as far as I could tell. People applauded and cried (me included) for the story as much as the singing, and out of surprise certainly, but also out of identification.

Any of us who can sing a bit (me included) would like to believe in our secret hearts that we could do the same, given a chance. But most of us (me included) would never take the risk, at least not at that nationwide, and now worldwide, scale. She did, and she succeeded. Good for her! And now the rest of us aging karaoke-celebrities have no excuses anymore. ;-)

She's really pretty good. Is she That Good? One hopes so, with real training which (as far as I know) she's never received. Luckily, the show is Britain's Got Talent, not Britain's Got Training. She's got enough singing talent to get in the door, and she's got enough raw stage-presence-type talent to get her the training she needs, and an opportunity to go the rest of the way.

Now that she's got this chance, I wonder how she'd have done as an indie artist doing Creative Commons recordings. I suppose we'll never know. But good for her, getting this chance. I hope we continue to hear about the ongoing Saga of Susan Boyle, Girl Singer.

This is the most inspiring (since Obama I guess). I'm not one to watch any of the reality shows and I never thought a singer would leave me speechless and teary-eyed. Thank God I saw this on the news. I was bawling while reading all the posts here and on youtube. Youtube and almost all bolgs as we know them are a pit of free-wheelin' foul-mouthed cruel crabmentalists but i've never seen a whole page full of only good, more like wonderful things to say about one person. I listened to Susan and I was just awestruck. My mother just recently passed away at 88 and I'm sure the music that we heard Susan sing must be what my mother is hearing from the angels in heaven, absolutely the most beautiful song I have ever heard in my life. I've never heard anyone this talented and she sang it from her heart and soul. I cried my eyes out listening to her. God Bless you Susan and I wish you a wonderful music career. Everybody loves a real-life Cinderella story and this one has tugged at the heartstrings of people around the world. I've lived in South Africa for most of my life but now live in Los Angeles and work in film. I was awe-struck when I watched Susan sing. She has a quality that stays with you long after the last note is sung. May she go from strength to strength and continue to touch people's lives around the world and I pray that she doesn't change who she is. Her greatest quality is that she's so natural and earthy and not in the least pretentious in spite of her incredible gift. Singing stars are often unrealistic role-models for their fans. She has it in her hands to change that and to change this world for the better. Way to go Susan. I am proud to call myself a fan.

Ok now I have the time!, what I didn't had first time around and read all the wellmeaning peoples thoughts, about you Susan Boyle.

first off to all welcome to the world of opera/operettes and musicals and stop for all too look at the package Susan comes in this isn't a beauty contest but sheer tallent Susan's voice is like a metzo soprano spanning over several octaves her voice are like some of the best I ever heard and is not schooled.

(what is the amazing part of it all.)

I see most use the epidemy of her looks at first but here there is no looks in this bussines there needs beauties and beasts we don't go by look, but by sheer performance/voice and delivery of same is what's counts, you showed us you have it all, to make us cry laugh and joy.

what it is to make a show/performance to make people live into the act and make a person presesnted in that musical become real, you even had the act to do so.

the britain's got tallent is a show theree only counts as a media blish and usually goes for youth and eyesight and in my eye's was wrong stage for Susan even though some thought we have her in there to show that we can take a 47 year old woman and put her through laugh and derogatation all in good fun of the show a show I usually classify as a meatmarked and not for real, is a look into a real tallent discovery, but more like a karaokee contest of stupidity.

Amanda said it clearest of all: "biggest eye opener for that show ever".

cynicism was changed to sheer disbelieve, like no one believe a frame like Susan Boyle could harbor anything that great, just because wrapping she comes in, don't fit what we wanna see,

but guess what it did and then some she took a Sir Andrew Loyd Webber piece from les misserables and catapulted it into greatnes fottting with her own dreams about a glory she should have had since she was 12 and not beginning at 47.

and now we all should wonder why this jewel of song and performance wasn't ever discovered.

because too me, this is the real issue here, how a tallent there wanted to go into a stage, since she was 12 with a voice like this,could have been so neglected over the years.

susan to me it's all about the gift U have I can care less how U look and can care less about what the public think I hope all good for you and hope someone is opening the doors for you now.

as I stated day one:

You're up there and you have a gift, there needs to be shared, theres not many like you, in this world. I applaud your performance and your voice and most of all, thanks for sharring your dream, with us all.God bless you, or in a way already did.

An Angel resides in the British Isles!! My Mum was from Nantymoel Wales and sang in a Church Choir before coming to America!! I was watching the news-cast here in Canada and they had a story about a woman from a British television show that would make people think twice about judging a book by it's cover. When they aired the small snipit from the show I was absolutely blown away. I rushed in to the computer room right away to pull up the show on You Tube. As I listened to this angelic voice sing I immediately began to cry. Susan, you keep dreaming that dream because I think it is not going to be too long before your wishes come true. Okay, Here I go...Shows like "American Idol" and "Britain's Got Talent" routinely make decidedly untalented, subjectively "unattractive" people(read: outside what is considered attractive by the glossy entertainment rags), the targets of scorn and ridicule. I am confident that live audience members are encouraged to channel their inner 13 year olds and mock anyone who could be perceived as plain, or odd, or different. It is not surprising then, that Susan, with her really, really thick eyebrows and frumpy low shoes, was first eyed with a snickering expectation of disaster. It is also with great optimism that I've witnessed the overwhelming support of this unassuming, wonderfully talented woman from the British Isles. The response is surely a backlash against the media's distain for the mass audience that they pander to. There, I've said it. Oh, and Susan, you are adorable and have the voice of an angel. Fly!

Amazing! Incredible voice. I was blown away. I have watched American Idol and America's Got Talent...and in all those years, NO ONE's performance has moved me to tears as Susan's. It appears we've been witness to the birth of a star, an eventuality coming only scarce times in a lifetime. I think as much as anything we've been shocked back into the reality that the beauty of the music itself is the purpose of listening to music! We've become so accustomed to the hyper physical melisma soaked offerings of ethno-pop that we had almost lost sight of how powerful the straight ahead celebration of the song itself can be. And when it's presented via the vehicle of a voice such as that, and a soul such as that, we have no choice but to surrender to the purity of something nearing transcendence. It suggests once again the nearly lost musical elements of love and romance that seems to have also driven such legends as Caruso, Orbison, Sills, Lanza and the select few others who mastered the mysterious Bel Canto emotional force. Watch closely again and you can actually see the instant when her spirit took control of the presentation to the near exclusion of all else. Most may have no idea what I'm talking about, but for the few who do I'm quite certain we'll agree that we've been privy to one of those very rare moments that will not be forgotten in a lifetime. I made my children come and listen to this wonderful woman sing. They were snickering at first too, then she started to sing. They sat there in stunned silence. When it was over all they could say was, "Wow!" I can't wait to see and hear more of her!

Much love from Orlando FL! When I first saw the video, the way they depicted you at first made you seem like a joke. Then you started talking about your personal life, and you seemed so shy and sweet. Then when you got up on stage, your voice was still a bit shy, but you didn't even flinch when laughter was coming from the audience.

Then when you opened your mouth to sing, it was so powerful! This is just pure talent. To hear about your struggles and how similar they are to so many, it makes most of us average people feel so blessed to see and hear what you've done.

well I guess, before people go stir crazy!! for real, 15 seconds after her performance there was atleast to my knowledge, three labels there was interested in Susan Boyle.

theres no need, to make comments out of contest here we should appreciate, she had the chance "finally" but since no one, besides Susan knows the real story behind "auditions she have been at or not".

dont mock the whole industry, before atleast we know, for a fact, she over the years, for real was turned down at any audition's

besides, I seriously doubt Susan herself, have any hard feelings towards any, so I kinda think, rejoyce she got a break and can go from there, with a voice like that, I seriously doubt, that any in musicals/opera/operette scenario, would have turned down this uncut diamond, of talent if ever they where presented with her, in an audition, as I stated earlier, looks is not like in other pop/R&B important,looks means nothing as long they can perform and sing and Susan makes platinum in them both.

and to not put anyone down Elaine Paige and other didn't get any freebees either and have earned there name and titles too and don't think any goes anywhere by putting down top performers and actors down, first off none of us was ever in, being asked about we had anything against Susan Boyle, being auditioned.

A friend of mine sent me the youtube link. I had seen her on MSN but had not actually paid any attention (too busy with life). Like many others my life has become very difficult over the last couple of years and I spend much of my time worrying about how to make ends meet and with no relief in sight from the stress, life has become a grind at times. I clicked on the link and for just a few minutes all of my worries melted away as my spirit soared with each note she sang. It is impossible to imagine that her voice has been hidden for all of these years. I personally feel very blessed at having the opportunity to witness the realization of another lifes dream. I pray that Susan experiences all of her dreams to their fullness.

I can't stop watching, listening and reading all things Susan Boyle. Her audition still brings tears to my eyes and chill down my spine. Darling Susan, Other singers have touched my heart with their lovely voices, Nat King Cole, Ella, Julie London, Matt Monroe, but I can honestly say no one has ever made me feel the way you do!!! You touch my deepest soul, my inner being, your voice seems to release all the pent up emotion I carry inside me. You are a revelation, a pure soul, maybe that is it, you are not corrupted by anyone or anything. Whatever it is you have Susan, I want more of it!
