SUSAN BOYLE EDINBURGH PLAYHOUSE
Hi Everyone. We lost our wireless here in the hotel shortly after returning from Susan's Show (as I call it!). I sent 4 videos to the website. 2 are the closest you'll see of her 2 songs, as well as her curtain call and one with her and Julian taking their bows. If the 2 song videos get posted--there are already a lot on here, but we were in the first row mine are very close up, WATCH HER AT :28 BECAUSE THAT'S WHEN SHE SEES OUR "WE CAME FROM AMERICA FOR SUSAN" SIGN AND YOU CAN SEE CATCHES IT--I have watched these and Glasgow about 10 times this morning. Stephen Mulhearn read the sign aloud during the show, so hopefully Susan knows people came from all over to support. The Scottish people in the audience thought it was amazing we would come the distance, but we did! SO, so many stopped us and were lovely. The family seated next to us at the show lives one street over from Susan and everyone knows everyone there. I would file it under "the too much information" column and no need to post it here.
Let me tell you about Blackburn: As we approached from M8 (the motorway as they call here, there was a sign that said Bathgate 20 miles and I thought wow she said "I am from Blackburn, near Bathgate, West Lothian." About 5 min later there a sign, Welcome to West Lothian--this is a county that also encompasses most of Edinburgh. We passed by Bathgate and eventually arrived in Blackburn (I will send the pix in to this site but again they may or may not get posted). I HAAAAD to take a picture of the now famous Blackburn sign.
I was hesitant to go down Susan's street but there was no action there, just a normal street so we took pictures at the house and spoke with a neighbor. Susan's hanging plants were there and all--it rains here so I guess they are self-maintenance. This neighbor was the man whose wife had arranged the whole Community Center celebration. The decorations are all down now - the ones we saw on the news- and I asked him if Susan had seen them personally and he said no that they took them down just recently.
We chatted a bit and then went to the pub. This is a place that strictly serves alcohol, and people are in there drinking at 1 in the afternoon. We spoke to 2 men for about 45 minutes. NO names, here, but one said that the Susan in the papers has been blown way out of proportion--that "Susan went to college, ya know? Well, not college but acting school." He said "Susan walked the streets every where. Everyone would see her walking all day everywhere.". He said the kids have not been nice to Susan that they throw stones at her and these are not little kids. They would pelt her with stones on her way. It made me want to cry.

These people said that the town is really behind Susan NOW. One guy said to me "Susan is not stupid, ya know. Susan (and he pointed to his head) is shrewd--she knows what people are and can read them." I mentioned how she said "The ones who were mean to me are now nice to me. You try to win them round." and I told him she clearly took the high road and knew to say nothing more. He showed us some pictures of him and Susan on his cell phone. She came in the night before the audition aired in April and told him she would be on tv the next night. He said he joked and said let's take a picture--maybe you'll get discovered and they laughed it off. He asked Susan how it went on the show to air the next night and she said I think it went pretty well. (Obviously by this time in April she knew she was through to the semis). These people as well as the woman next to us at the show are convinced Susan will always live in the area--She might buy that house but when you've signed an 12,000,000 USD record deal which was in the paper today I don't think you live in Blackburn--it's just the reality. They said her brother John lives in Blackburn too. This wasn't as depressed as I thought it would be but some places were more run down than others--hers was as neat as a pin.
We made another stop in Blackburn, calculating how many times I have listened to I Dreamed a Dream and wanted to make a donation in Susan's name to a charity there. I realize that she can start her own charity now but felt like we should give back--the town could benefit from some anti-bullying programs. It was a beautiful day in Blackburn...on to the show

FIRST I WANT TO SAY THAT HOLLIE STEELE, the little girl and 2 GRAND (the grandad and gdaughter team) had the night off and were not there. OF COURSE that isn't in the Scottish papers today. One of the acts blanked a bit on their words. OF COURSE not in the paper either.
At 7pm (30 min before showtime) I was surprised by how large the crowd was. Journalists descended (if you could call them that!) on us, spotting our sign. We made our way and sat in the first row, as I said earlier, next to Susan's "neighbor". PM me if you want bits of our conversation--NOW ABOUT THE WONDERFUL SHOW..When Stephen Mulhearn saw our sign He said in the show "America really loves Susan, don't they?" I said "America is CRAZY about Susan Boyle--I think even more than here!" (I know even more so but hey I didn't want to start a rivalry (LOL)). He then said into the microphone a long drawn out "NICE".
Since I had been in Glasgow the night before I was ready with camera knowing when Susan would come out. I had placed our sign in FRONT of the metal rail that separates ROW 1 from the stage and it was in a fluorescent orange literally 3 feet to SUSAN'S SLIGHT LEFT and you can see her catch it at :28 if the video gets put on.The bright white lights BEHIND her were shining on it and the first few rows. She looked into the tiny white light of my camera a couple of times. (I remembered to turn it on to film in the dark) Her family was in the front row to HER RIGHT and you can see her gesturing and pointing to them in my video after she finishes I Dreamed a Dream. By the way you can also clearly see that she has a French manicure on her nails now--very pretty. She seems to have relaxed more and her gestures seem more natural. When she does the dramatic (He was gone) from Lez Miz it was more pronounced than Glasgow. The audience in Edinburgh loved Susan--this is her base and again she seemed very comfortable. She moves from the dramatic to being her old self right after her singing. I filmed her curtain call too.
Admittedly, we are all ready to hear new songs, but the next time we hear her they will be songs we pay for--bring it on I say.
I will fade into fansite oblivion now--thanks for sharing the excitement of my SUSAN BOYLE journey to Scotland. We are off to Edinburgh castle. Lisa :)

The people in the pub said Susan told them she was hoping her address would fade from memory after being published (in the US the press would have been fined for posting it) so she could come home one day.

@LucyB: You are right .My children are standing here saying, "Come on Mom, we have to go," so I have rushed through my posts, spelling, typos and all in an attempt to share bits and pieces of our Susan trip with all of you and you have all been in my back pocket the entire journey.. She will come to America eventually, problem is the scalpers will buy them all up and sell them quadruple face value imo. . Fingers crossed she can manage--one other thing the neighbor said to me is that "Susan just loves the singing--it's all this other hooping and hollering she can't stand. It's not her. She just wants to sing the songs." AND THAT"S A QUOTE. Later, Lisa
