Phew! I can breathe now LOL! It wasn't quite perfect - but it was definitely good enough. (That's all just nerves and who can blame Susan. My goodness!) When she hit "touch me..." I knew she had it. But the first 2 lines weren't her best. Again, just nerves.

And how wonderfully funny and gracious she was. Not to mention stunning! Not a makeover, just a tiny bit of a spruce up.

The world is with you, Susan!

The video clip is up already? Thank you! Am still trying to figure out how Susan and Diversity have already been put through? Isn't the voting still going on? I MISSED how long voters had to call in! Trying to be three places at once just is NOT working, lol!

To overcome the nerves that had to be there with all the attention and high expectation and soar to that ending......well done, Susan!

Inspired choice of song tonight and inspiring performance. What I love so much about Susan is the passion in her performances. And as for 'worthless' (!) ... Susan Boyle is a beacon of hope and inspiration herself. I adore her.

Susan was beautiful, amazing, and simply herself!!! What incredible talent. She has brought me to tears yet again. Susan, we love you dearly in the US!!! Please come here ASAP. When is your first album out? We can't wait!!!!!!! Susan, you are a true STAR.

NO ONE had a 'perfect' performance except maybe for Diversity. Most of the really good musical acts just--put in real lightweight performances based on not-the-best music choices--does anybody else agree? I was surprised by that!

At least 'Memory' was an outstanding song choice for Susan, even if it wasn't so 'perfectly' sung. I do think she sang it well enough, based on how the others did.

Well done susan. Another stunning performance. All the best for the future

As to the way this works. Susan will sing a diffeent song next week -- maybe even two? The mistake she made on the first few notes tonight won't count specifically -- Right? But her competion for next week will be selected from the contestents who win from tomorrow to next week? Or do the judges select the winner from tomorrow to next Sunday?

Tough start, but she kept composed and got herself righted. She does the lyrics so beautifully. Tough song for her though. Maybe she can make a better selection for the finals. Even with all that a wonderful touching performance.

I caught that little comment about proving that she isn't "worthless". How awful to have felt like that. She is so talented and so beautiful, that anyone could make her feel worthless is truly heartbreaking. Susan is more talented than most of the "beautiful" people in Hollywood. I think she knows now that she isn't "worthless". May God bless this wonderful, modest, but so talented jewel. The world is so much richer for her discovery.

I listened to the live feed posted here. The first 2 lines she wasn't her best but that is to be understood. This gives her time to shake off the nerves for the finals. She was brilliant and amazing to listen to. I look at this forums everyday but have finally posted a comment. I love you Susan, you are an inspiration and I will buy every cd you put out and fly to where ever I have to when you perform in the U.S. She looked so pretty as well and what spunk. I think she would be great fun to hang around with.

Susan's performance was lovely, and the audience and voters reflected that. I wish her well.
Posted by USA4Susan on May 24, 2009
Another great thing about Susan is her ability to calm herself. After a few bad notes, she placed her hand on her tummy and relaxed and let that song rise from within. Just gorgeous.

She was confident, and looked great. A little weak in the beginning, but she gave a great performance. She seems like a lot of fun and I think she is coming out of her shyness! She seems ready and able to win this thing. I think she can handle the pressure. All we need to do is breathe and relax. :)

not word perfect , and that sweet softness was missing ,to be truethfull i thought the nerves were going to be her downfall , with the world watching her i would nt have been suprised if she had reached the mike, then fainted .the presure on her must have been astranomical.still she pulled it off and regained her posture and her voice .good performance

Posted by VoiceOfAmerica on May 24, 2009
All the way from accross the globe, we waited. Famous Generals have always known that surprise is the greatest weapon and Susan was at a disadvantage, for how could anyone top coming from knowwhere to shock the world and it's one hundred million plus views. The expectations were so high, the bar had such a lofty height and the world waited breathlessly. She advanced, no question that she would, but in her final appearance, she will have to dig deep and come up with something that represents the "little folk" out there, the simple people like you and me who's hopes, dreams and aspirations rest on a little girl, packed with an explosive voice that rings into the night.....

I was surprised that Natalie didn't do any better than she did. Her song choice really wasn't the best to show off her voice, as Simon said.

When I saw Susan walk out onto the stage, my heart dropped, because she was so nervous she could hardly walk, but she smiled before she got to the mike, so I felt more hopeful. Then she started to sing and I couldn't breathe...it was like time stopped...I was so scared for her. But like the professional she is, she concentrated on the mechanics and it got her stabilized until she could relax into the song a little. Good move, Susan! Just the right thing to do! And then came the smile, sturdier sound, and voila, she was on track. It was hair-raisingly scary, though. I still have a headache! Oh, Susan, you did it, gal! Don't worry about your performance, it's over and done with and you made it through with flying colors! You did great! We all loved it! The crowd was hollering their approval in the background. You gave us another wonderful song to add to our Memories!

Posted by amessusa on May 24, 2009
Considering all the pressure , and remember she is not a polished professional, she came through at the end. If she had faltered like this in the audition we may not have been blessed to hear from her now throughout the world.

We really can't fault Susan to have a bit of a jitter on the first note since the whole world is watching her and has high expectations of her. She litterally has the whole world on her shoulders poor Lady. Anyway, like an exceptional performer that she is she belt it out the British Coast and reached everyone around the world with another power pack punch! And thank God, she won the first round! I've just been watching Susan on the after show programme on ITV2 and she was clowning about as usual, bless her. On the actual performance she had a very shaky start but managed to pull it back. Anyway the phone vote was only about 15 minutes long and I rang and rang and rang and only got 1 vote registered as the bloody line was constantly engaged but at least that meant she was getting plenty of votes.

Diversity were excellent. Some of the others were just unmentionable.

So beautiful, a slight flaw, but the best singer in my opinion on BGT or American Idol. I'll stick with Susan. Wonderful!
Posted by NarnianGirl on May 24, 2009
Beautiful Lady Susan! I can relax and enjoy watching that now - it was too nervewracking in the first time!! Understandable pressure - but she composed herself and showed the world what she's made of. May God help her to choose a good sng for the Final!
Posted by johnnycake on May 24, 2009
Well I don't want a Susan Boyle CD. I want a Susan Boyle DVD. I want to see her as she's singing. She's captivating. (but I'll take the CD too)
Posted by pottedferne on May 24, 2009
she was a little nervous at the beginning, but didn't she regroup and belt it out at the end!! That is a tough song to sing. I love the lyrics, but it is almost an octave too high for Susan. But she made it her own at the end.

I vote for Wind beneath my Wings for the final. It is better suited for her voice. Susan can certainly sing a Bette Midler or a Striesand song.
Posted by anita64 on May 24, 2009
Nervous or not, that was an honest performance- and I loved it.
Posted by RubyRose on May 24, 2009
With all the emotions surrounding her performance, what I remember is how absolutely beautiful her voice was. Susan has a voice than only God can give. If you aren't born with the right vocal makeup, nothing will make up for it. You must HAVE a good voice before you can work to improve it. Her voice is heartbreakingly beautiful.
Posted by mrssusieqmi on May 24, 2009
I agree with you pottedferne. I thought Susan was going to sing Whistle in the wind. She could do Wind beneath my Wing wonderfully. I am in awe of this woman.

Susan was very funny on the after-show, "Britan's Got MORE Talent." She gave another wiggle, this time I believe she mentioned it was for Piers. She also was dancing with a lightsabre, at the end of the show. She has quite a personality! She is gracious, humble, yet she has spunk and a real joy. For the final, I hope she chooses a song that shows off her range and talent more than "Memories."
Posted by AzTrishUSA on May 24, 2009
Loved Susan....the song not my favorite.
Posted by Allikat on May 24, 2009
Help, someone! Susan was very funny, on the iTV2 after-show 'Britain's Got More Talent'--but exactly WHEN were she and Diversity 'announced' as Semifinalists? Who made it via the popular vote, and who got put through by the judges? I must say I honestly feel the correct two acts DID go through! I am so thrilled! SUSAN GOES ON THE TOUR! YIPPEE! That means 14 huge live venue performances to come in June, unless BGT adds more cites and dates. What an opportunity for Susan--at long last!

The finalist selections appear to have happened within moments of BGT ending--were there only like 5 minutes to vote or something? Can ANYONE in the UK please tell me how this was done? Not being able to figure this out is making me a little nuts, nuts, here--lol!

People, go to YouTube later and bring up the mharie12345 channel to watch the entire BGT and BGMT semifinal shows again. It takes a few hours for all segments of both to get put up and 'accepted' by YouTube but they'll be there! There'll be 'clips' by other YouTubers but only that one channel seems to be putting up entire shows. And you REALLY want to watch the Britain's Got More Talent segments to see Susan again! She'll be shown in the first part--I think--and her interview was during the last bit.

If I didn't properly say so before, CONGRATULATIONS, SUSAN! Now you can concentrate on your Finals song! I really am looking forward to this next Saturday night!

Hells bells I would be nervous with the pressure she was under tonight with the whole WORLD watching her! Susan is like me and you...ordinary and I think under the circumstances she done wonerfully and looked stunning!!
Posted by Noelle on May 24, 2009
BGT allows 10 mins. only for the voters to phone in. The popular vote (actually first place) went to Susan and the judges picked the other finalist from the performers that came in 2nd and 3rd in the popular vote.

BGT, according to what I've been reading, has a rule that the finalists must sing the same song or perform the same act they used in their audition, so it appears that Susan will be singing "I dreamed a Dream" in the finals.

Anyone got a hankie? (sniff-sniff) I still get emotional when I hear her sing that. :~

I truly believe that Susan has achieved the popular vote and will maintain the popular vote in first place next week and that she won't "bomb" in the finals like Adam did on American Idol, because of too much exposure and hype pre-finals. The reason she'll win the popular vote is because Susan's performance is much better suited for the Royal Variety and because, even with all the exposure and pre-finals hype, everyone of ALL ages identifies with something about Susan from her first performance throughout. From young to old. Susan Boyle is a Super Star!!!

I think Susan looked 10 years younger here, her dress was perfect for the occasion, she was absolutely lovely. I thoroughly enjoyed the performance, and you could tell she was lapping up the adoration from the audience, especially near the end, before her final, dramatic finish. A stupendous performance, indeed!

I think Andrew Lloyd Weber is looking for driving directions to West Lothian, to sign Susan up after that performance. It was Brilliant, she's done it again, going to have the world in tears with how beautifully she sang that song.

Latest news from ITN, Susan Boyle to the final! Great!
Posted by johnnycake on May 24, 2009
BJG said: Susan looked like the lights were too bright and she was having trouble seeing -- did you see that?

I was wondering if, when the backlight (rising sun) came up after "and a new day will begin" whether that perhaps didn't illuminate the audience for her, a somewhat different experience to see the swarm of faces instead of the glare of the footlights? Whatever the cause, at that point she transformed, following the concept of the verse as I observe it. Grizabella, the grey beauty, is reborn during her singing of the song Memory. Susan didn't falter. She play acted the part to perfection.
Posted by Frantic on May 24, 2009
Susan, You have the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Are you planning to put together a CD we can purchase? I watch every video I can see of you. Howdy Pards,

Susan Boyle's talent is not just in her singing voice but in her character...her humility, her joy for life, her smile. Did you notice tonight that when she smiled the whole world got a little brighter?

This was Susan's second time, in her whole life, performing in front of a "large" audience. Think about that, then imagine yourself standing behind those doors waiting to be introduced.

Susan needs to understand that her smile brightens our world and will brighten every stage she ever appears on in the future. She needs to know that the audience is made up of people who dearly love her...even though they now number in the millions...

Even more confidence will come with experience. With setting down and analyzing every aspect of her performance. Still...did you feel the electricity when her voice raised with power begining with the words, "Touch me..." She has a wonderful, natural talent that is a thing of absolute beauty and grace. And, as I say, her talent is not just in singing...her talent is in the very essense of her being...when those doors parted there was no question in anyone's mind, except perhaps Susan's, that we were in the presence of a true star...it's our job to continue to give her our love as she continues down this trail to happiness to a place where all her dreams will come true...and as she sings...our dreams will come true too!

Yep, pards, seems to me we got a job to do...to stand firmly behind her, to support her, and to do everything we can to bring her the same joy and happiness that she has given us!

Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

Wild Ol' Dan

I hope they put her up in a nice hotel and she'll get enough sleep tomorrow! She has lots of work ahead of her this week to practice her song... so, have a good night's sleep, Susan, and wake up refreshed tomorrow!
Posted by continuum on May 24, 2009
I also wonder if Susan is being told to choose only Andrew Lloyd Webber songs, considering the "talks" that are apparently going on.
Posted by texun on May 24, 2009
A comment after repeated viewings. I cannot even imagine the pressure Susan felt when she walked on that stage. As Simon said, I would not want to be in Susan's place. Despite the troubled start, she gained her footing - when she started to smile and appeared to relax - and finished brilliantly. This event is quite different from the auditions when the performers have a chance to relax a bit during the intro chat with the judges before performing. I think she was much more comfortable holding the mic rather than standing in front of it. Susan has this out of the way and can now relax and get on with her singing career and hopefully a smashing win in the finals.

Noelle you are correct in saying the finalists re-do their audition pieces - this is what has happened in the previous 2 BGT series. I certainly hope that Susan will sing "I dreamed a dream again". I hated this song until I heard her sing it and now it's one of my favourites.

Oh by the way there are reports in the British press that Piers has said he's going to kiss her live on-air, providing she is agreeable. I think from the wiggle he got from Susan tonight that she will be!
Posted by johnnycake on May 24, 2009
Apparently the character of Grizabella is so emotionally wrenching that TS Eliot left it out of the original. She is an old, broken outcast who is accepted and reborn as she sings Memory. No one could have watched Susan's performance of Memory without feeling every chill of emotion Eliot intended.
Posted by pottedferne on May 24, 2009
@johnnycake wow, do you think there was a deliberately hidden message in the shakey start to Grizabella's performance followed by the strong close? This may well rank up there with some of the Beatles song mysteries. Incredible!!! Somehow I suspect that Susan would do something like this.
Posted by elwyn on May 24, 2009
hi susan, I dont know if you read these comments, i have watched you from Queensland, Australia and just absolutley love the pitch and tone of your voice. It really does sound very similiar to Elaine Page.I hope the Television Producers dont alter you to the point of no return as your charm lays in your authenic and original look and beautiful voice.

Cn you IMAGINE the pressure on this lady after the global reaction to her 1st audition? Even a professional would suffer nerves/stage-fright under those circumstances! But Susan - just like she persevered in her earlier years - overcame the nerves in the short 3 minutes and finished her performance cum laude! We all know she can sing every note of this song in a familiar setting, and it takes guts to recover! She is sooooooooo talented, so gutsy, so unsinkable, so human in the BEST sense - tonight's performance sums up her ability and personality. She is the best songstress - (in my books the incomparable) Ella, you've now got competition!!

Managed to put in 2 votes immediately afterwards, but line closed when I borrowed friends' mobiles; OK, for the final I'll have 6 mobiles lined up ready to go. Susan, you are fantabulous!!!!!

Personally, I don't feel that she knew she had the voting locked up. Her reaction on the semi-final results segment was shock that she won the votes. As Simon said. before her performance tonight, she has no idea the impact she has had on people all over the world. She comes from a small town and has usually performed for small crowds and now she has suddenly been thrust into the midst of world-wide attention and scrutiny. I would be scared to death to go out on a stage and sing know that millions of people were watching. Bravo to Susan for her bravery and a wonderful performance.

I can't help watching this clip over and over--and notice that Susan sings 'Memory' in the key of B flat with the last verse modulating to D flat (just as A L Webber wrote it) and she can REACH that bottom G below middle C! She has zero problems reaching highest note, E Flat, and I suspect she can sing into a bit higher range, too--our Lady Susan is basically a Contralto with more the 'sound' of a Mezzo, which makes me think she might also be able to manage a full upper mezzo-soprano range as well! There is only about a major 3rd interval difference between those two female 'voices'!

Okay, I received a 4-year music performance degree at University a LONG time ago, viola major and voice minor, and I have so-called 'perfect pitch' plus know which vocal ranges are what--that's all. At my age, I've lost quite a bit of my own vocal range--and that's putting it mildly, lol!

Both Elaine Paige and Betty Buckley (originators of this song as Grizabella in 'Cats', UK and US respectively) are mezzo-sopranos and have trouble reaching the lowest notes of this song. I'm a mezzo also (or was), and can attest to the fact that the extremely low Gs in the chorus parts ARE the hardest notes to hit. A true operatically trained Contralto can get down nicely to an F. Some can manage going down to an E, and I've even heard Lisa Gerrard get down to a D without sounding silly--but that is so rare!

Only brought this up because I noticed someone had mentioned that 'Memory' was perhaps placed 'in the wrong octave' for Susan's voice, so thought I'd jump in with a slightly halfway 'educated opinion' based on musical knowledge and training alone (not personal ability).

This song is 'rangy'; it utilizes an octave plus a minor 6th; I felt Susan sang it 'where it belonged' for her, and the range did suit her voice well--G below Middle C to the 2nd E Flat above Middle C. That's from one whole tone above the lowest pitch up to one whole tone below the highest pitch which are considered to be contained within a 'trained' Contralto's vocal range.

I guess I still find it kinda amusing to read of Susan being listed as a 'Soprano' in various articles. Nope--technically, soprano range is Middle C to High C (2 octaves above Middle C--think Sarah Brightman, here), with some Coloraturas being able to hit Es and Fs above even that!

Sorry about that! I meant I often get that impression when she sings as if she was not of this world.

Absolutely brilliant, especially the way she overcame the initial nerves and was soon in her stride. What a lady! Susan, you are just so refreshing to listen to and watch and such a lovely, natural person. Whoever has ever made you think you were worthless in your life deserves to be whipped! It's not just your singing that has seduced the whole world, it's the lovable person that you are. You are a rare and precious gem.

Superb Susan Boyle, What can one say? I only wish I lived in England just to at least say "Hello" to Susan if not to hug and kiss you. You can and will win big. I await your first album. A show in Australia recently chose another unknown with a nice voice but you beat her hands down and with room to move. I LOVE YOU.
Posted by Trickywoo on May 24, 2009
Susan Boyle doesn't have to win a contest on television to prove that she is a "worthwhile person." She's worthwhile, all right, many times over, by just being herself. The amazing voice is just the icing on the cake for this lovely woman. It is uplifting to watch her perform, and I can hardly wait until the finals to see her go all the way to the top. And after that, the first CD! Thank you, Ms. Boyle, for sharing your talent with us.

Well I watched the whole thing as it happened as well. I thought she was going to get buzzed after that very shaky start. But they beleived in her ability to raise above it, and they were right. I think if it hadn't been for Susans massive world appeal and awesome talent, she probably would've got buzzed then, just like some of the earlier contetants. I must admit it wasn't the song she should have chosen. She also seemed to be in a hurry with the lyrics while singing, whether that was nerves I don't know. She finished strongly, with the high notes being her forte.

She can only be better in the final, after all she's gonna be singing "I Dreamed A Dream" once again, a song she's totally at home with as we all know.

I tried to vote more than once on my phone but I couldn't get through as the lines were engagded every time I tried.

btw, I hate to be picky, but it's spreading like a bad cold. The title of the song Susan sang is not "Memories", it's the singuler "Memory".

Yes definitely mystical. The quiet tentative beginning was just right under the circumstances and if it fitted with the original so be it.She finished powerfully.I don't like the changes to her appearance I mean she looks nice but a little lost but somehow her original look was so much more powerful and well it struck a note for womankind. We can blame her well meaning "friends" for that and her good mannered acquiescence for their "kindness" towards her.Probably a novelty in her life. They cannot help it they are brainwashed to the plucking primping and dying hair et al that womakind has fallen prey to in our so called civilized society. If she doesn't win then there is no God.

Johnnycake brilliant comments show that Susan did not falter at all in her rendition of "Memory." She was actually playing the part of Grizabella, a rejected and down-trodden grey-haired lady in Cats. I was mistaken and thought she was just nervous before I read the comments.

That made Amanda's comment that Susan "nailed" the song perfectly appropriate, rather than puzzling.

OH! JohnnyCake, I totally agree that while I love "I Dreamed a Dream," too, I'd rather hear her sing "Cry Me a River" for the finals. She can really wail!!

Have watched the clip a few more times. I have to say that one of the hardest things to do is to start off a bit shaky and then regroup quickly in front of a live audience (never mind the millions watching worldwide!) That takes guts!

I'm not sure Susan really knows what she's done. Piers tried to convey that to her, but I think it might have been lost in the moment...

Posted by johnnycake on May 24, 2009
Noelee, I find it gut wrenching to consider Susan as the rejected pariah Grizabella, appealing to Old Deuteronomy for the chance to be reborn at the Jellicle Ball, and then see her recharged by her acceptance.

Johnnycake, once you explained the part Susan was playing, I went back and watched her performance again and I could see what you're talking about. It's almost like a repeat of the emotion felt at watching her audition interview and audition performance. Susan's representing her own feelings and life experiences in her performance. Dear Allikat! Thanks so much for the music lesson! That was terrific. I thought the slide she made in the first few notes were a mistake -- she rubbed her stomach and I thought she had gas or something. But is that an actual technique used in "Cats"? Not many people would know that! She also seems to have perfect pitch, and an ability to go directly into acapella with no aids which is to me amazing. Is there a term to describe her ability to move so somthely up the octives as she did in the Dream Song? I think Amanda said her treatment of the Dream song was technically perfect. Right? I hope you do this if she adds another song for the contest. It sure enriches one's understanding and appreciation to grasp the accomplishment Susan is achieving. Thanks a lot!

Indeed, thank you Allikat for that analysis of Susan's voice. She and Sarah are both ideally suited to ALW IMHO.
Posted by Allikat on May 24, 2009
For IvoryMist and others who have brought up the subject--there were several little 'stumbles' throughout the song, and I can't help but wonder if some of that 'coaching' Susan received may had a bit to do with it.

Here's why: it is VERY difficult to begin a song rather sotto voce and hit the pitch perfectly plus maintain a nice, even tone while feeling the 'pressure' of nerves. Susan had problems there, but recovered, and even managed the second verse very nicely while singing it quite softly! That first verse needed to be sung more like she usually sings--definitively. But she may have been coached into trying this other approach. I felt it didn't work well at all for her; the effect just wasn't good.

Pity about the time limitations, because without the little 'second chorus' which ends with '...the memory is fading', right before that ascension up to 'touch me, it's so easy to leave me...' the song musically didn't make good sense. I doubt Susan had much say, in what 'cuts' had to be made in the song. But I was disappointed in this greatly whittled-down version. I HOPE she records a full version of it, sung true concert-style! That would be purely amazing!

The very low chorus part, Susan sang exceptionally well! BETTER than anybody else I've heard! Again--only wish she'd been allowed to include the final chorus part, too, which has different words, but lies in that same range!

It seemed to me as though she may have been told by the vocal coach to 'hold back', to 'not over-sing' etc, because there were more bobbles in the final portion, as she toned it down a bit after nailing the first part of it. Again--unless a singer is incredibly well-trained for many years, it is VERY hard to sing this section totally on pitch and in good tone without going full voice and remaining there! (I oughta know--this song is one of MY favs to sing, too. And I have nowhere near Susan's voice, lol!.)

I only hope Susan won't be forced to sing 'Memory' like this if she performs it on the tour, or when she records it. If she is ever going to 'act the part' a bit, that needs to be reserved for when she gets around to taking on the role of Grizabella in the actual musical, should 'Cats' be revived.

A concert performance of a musical theatre song needs to be sung entirely differently than during an actual music theatre performance. Susan has this incredibly rich, big voice with a gorgeous timbre, and she ought to be allowed to USE that, rather than be asked to begin any song in such a wimpy fashion. She has shown she can sing softly as well as full voice and retain her excellent sense of pitch, but it appears that for her, she needs the freedom within a song to begin as strongly as she feels will comfortably start her off in the right direction.

I hope this makes some kind of sense. I'm just trying to figure it all out, myself. Because--I kinda feel maybe Susan got a bit 'lucky' with tonight's voting. (Please don't hit me.) I just want her Finals song to 'sound a lot better'. She deserves that, and I know she can do it, too. We've heard her do it before!

Howdy Pards,

Well, Susan was playing a role tonight during her singing...those who have never seen CATS may not be familiar with Grizabella...but johnnycake has hit the nail on the head. Susan was in complete control...and the staging...when the sun came up and Susan soared is all the evidence one needs of that. Still, there is now a 7 minute clip on YouTube. Would someone bring that or an even longer version here to our fans site. We need the entire segment from pre-introduction through the judges comments...please stop cutting these wonderful moments off. Tis history we are talking about here...the birth of a legendary superstar. The judges comments following Susan's performance are a joy to listen to and extremely important for the history books. Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail. Wild Ol' Dan

Dear Allikat: I wonder if there is a way we could "package" your notes and suggestions and pass them along to some of Susan's music people before they start off on their tour. You make such good sense and if our club could help Susan with a few suggestions -- then why not. I guess you might have some influence with those members of Susans staff and musical support people. What is the worst that could happen? Susan was, to my view, walking on the edges of her own comfort level and her desire to be compliant -- maybe should be a tad less compliant?
Posted by Noelle on May 24, 2009
Allikat, you have such an extensive knowledge of music and I appreciate that you're sharing it with us.

In light of that, I hesitate here...but I, too, thought Susan stumbled in several places (same ones you designated AK)and was puzzled because Susan commented that she was very pleased (words to that affect)with her performance in the semi's and Amanda puzzled me even more when she commented to Susan that Susan had "nailed" the song Perfectly. Until I read johnnycake's comments about the role she was performing and watched the vid again; then I understood.

Allikat, I agree with you that a concert performance should be done with all the gusto profundo possible and the role-playing in accompaniment with "Memory" was somewhat inappropriate when not actually playing the part.

However, IMO, Susan was either attempting to show ALW that she can actually perform a role onstage or it's just Susan's performing style representing her own feelings about her life experiences, just as Susan mentioned that she wanted people to know that she isn't worthless, but has something worthwhile to offer. Probably the latter.

Remember what you said backstage on trial 1: I'm going to ROCK THIS AUDIENCE. Make it your mantra. Because, we all know you will. And so many of us are routing for you. I have never heard such a beautiful voice, and I know what it's like to be "in the background" (we can both think of deeper feelings than that). Susan will sing for the Queen, of that I have no doubt, and, if it is her desire, a career on Broadway. I wish, for her performance in the Finals, she would sing "The Impossible Dream", from the Man of La Mancha. Susan is much better than she is in this performance. She almost had no competition on the semi-final, but that will not be the case on next Saturday. She needs to face that & to get better prepared so that we do not get disappointed next Saturday.

maigret: I agree on the number of singing coaches. one coach to 19 is a bit much. And that coach probably will switch around, etc. Susan has a long history with her current coach and I wonder if switching around to new and unfamiliar systems and techniques might not do Susan more harm than good.

I still maintain that 'Memory' should be a great song for Susan--surely under more favorable circumstances (ie, not during this nerve-wracking competition) she'd have sung it far, far better.

Early on, I read that this song was one of Susan's 'best' ones. I still think it might be. So--she wound up with a performance that wasn't her absolute best. It happens. Fortunately for Susan, it also happened to others on the program as well.

Please trust me--NO one sings out-of-tune on purpose for 'effect', whether playing a role, or not. The little bobbles had to be nerves, and attempting too delicate an entry to begin with, then trying to lower her volume too much in the last verse. If Susan had sung like this in her audition round, I don't believe she'd have made the top 40 cut. Happily, it didn't go that way!

But, BJG, I'd never presume to try to touch base with any of the folks working with Susan on her music. I'm not even a voice teacher or coach--have only ever taught violin, viola, piano, and guitar. I hope nobody will get any ideas about trying to send anyone my 'notes' because I didn't make those posts here with that in mind--at all.

Truth is--I'm just trying to come to terms with how it all went down. I'm still feeling very weird about it. Am truly glad Susan won, but I feel a performance such as this cannot happen again in the Finals without disastrous results.

Wouldn't it be far better (for Susan) to really NAIL her Finals song, but not win because maybe someone else also nails their act and is equally or more fantastic, rather than for her to 'win' with a sub-par performance while someone else's is sensational? I mean--think about it. Doing well will mean far more, career-wise, whether winning or not.

All 10 of the Finalists will be considered 'winners', to me. I'll be very interested to see how everybody else does in the next few days. Maybe I do really hope that Susan wins the competition, but mostly I hope she SINGS incredibly well for her Finals performance.

well the song itself "Memory" is a somber and gut-wrenching song, even in Cats. I did prefer she sang "This Is the Moment" from Jekyll and Hyde because I think her vocal range would be just as perfect as it was in I Dreamed a Dream. But nevertheless, Susan did very well with Memory. All the 3 judges did not critique her but rather praised, gave her well wishes and an apology from Simon.

Allikat: I taught for a very long time, and I think I am worried about Susan -- one person among 19 assigned to one coach. Some things that are delicate should be given lots of care before changing fundamental things that successful people do for temporary effect. -- I will try not to worry.
Posted by johnnycake on May 24, 2009
On a different note, does anyone know what she means when she says, "The only tube I knew was Marty's?"
Posted by Allikat on May 24, 2009
I'm worried about Susan also, BJG. I'm hoping she can get back with her former vocal coach for two or three sessions if that's even possible. I just can't even bear to listen to the Semifinal 'Memory' clip again. It's as though she wasn't vocally 'being herself' during the singing of it. Oh, I'm trying 'not to worry too much' but it's so hard! I really do care about her; I care what happens for her.

Howdy Pards,

Let's remember that this was only Susan's second time in performing for a "large" audience! With experience will come comfort and confidence. When a couple hundred million of us buy her first CD that oughta boost her confidence some don't ya think? The way I figure it, we got a job to do, to bring as much happiness and joy into Susan's life as we can. Knowing full well that we can never match the amount of happiness and joy she has brought into our lives. When the dawn comes today will be a memory too... Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail.

I've watched the video several times now. Maybe someone can answer if the orchestra was rushing her? Who controls, who decides what the fine timing will be, the interpretation? Was that the vocal coach? Or who? When ALW commented that Susan was a "good sport" I assumed he had been in on a rehearsal where she was being given some advice and fine tuning. I don't care for the song, but she delivered.

Hello Sussan I write to you from Chile, South America. I have seen all your participations in the program ' Brithis got talent ' and think that you are absolutely fantastic. Congratulations for your world success. I was thinking about the song that I would like to listen in the final day, something that will kill to the whole audition, and I believe that “in the final audition” I would like to hear you singing “Freedom” or Liberte (French) or va pensiero (in Italian), song of the opera of Giuseppe Verdi ' Nabucodonosor ' Anyway, whatever that you sing that night, it will be great Best regards from Chile 440

Allikat: See, after lots of years, I have been willing to send a note or make a comment because you never know, someone might also be concerned and they may take the suggestions. It's an idea, and so it can't hurt. The important factor is to have a good contact in case there is an interest in exchanging ideas to help. Sending ideas in cold is tricky. If our Club "Administrators" know the BGT staff, they might have a contact you can use. They just might call back, and maybe we can get them to get Susans regular coach. Susan is an important artist, and something they are probably not used to. They made be glad for the help.-- Just imagine you had to sit down with piece of paper and write out long hand how you would tie laced shoes or necktie. It is so ingrained, many can't do it! They have to look. Some, like an airline pilot can't do it. They become aware and in that lose the knack! The tests I knew about were terminated. The worst that can happen is they throw away your note, or they don't return the call. Susan is someone very special. Very Special. A great responsibility.

What do you think of Susan on a bus for the tour?
Posted by Dorothea on May 24, 2009
Susan looked tired and scared when she first appeared, then the smile, then the shaky start. She reached down inside and remembered her dream and that came thru! Must remember this is pure raw talent...not a professional singer. It's not hard to imagine how she will sound once she gets a proper voice coach to help her through some of the tougher notes for her voice. She will be one of the greatest singers of all time. I can't even fathom the pressure that was on her tonight. Well done Susan and I am so happy for you! Now relax and enjoy the dream!
Posted by Bobber2 on May 24, 2009
I think most would acknowledge that Susan struggled with the first one or two lines of the song...to be forgiven and to be looked over ? Yes absolutely and here's why, we all know Susan can sing those notes but that can't be said of someone who is a bad singer. Just the style of her voice I find more pleasurable to listen to then any other singer ive heard even from the top professionals...give her the slack she needs....the technical expertise will come as she goes along, and be encouraged Susan as far as im concerned you did a great job !

BJG, I can appreciate your comments directed to me, but I just don't feel up to trying to tell any of them what to do or offer suggestions. If you'd like to work on it, that's your right and I hope you'll follow it through, but it's not something I'd feel comfortable with myself.

Oh--not sure what you mean, by "what do you think of Susan on a bus for the tour"? Won't all the finalists be traveling on the same bus (or busses) from city to city during the tour in June? Can't think why that shouldn't be fine..it just that the tour is so hectic! No days off and several days have two performances!

I would like to think that Ms. Boyle's performance of Memories will silence those jaded individuals who have been pushing the fifteen minutes of fame button. Susan Boyle has proven that she has the grace, dignity and talent to prevail long after those that are critical and indeed oft times insensitive towards her have long passed from the public's collective memory. Bravo Susan.
Posted by maigret on May 24, 2009
I think she was coached to sing those opening lines in a faltering way - in character. It's consistent with how she came on stage. It was not the way she walked on in the audition. They changed coaches on her and it seems they are messing with her behavioral style and strengths. I do worry about it but given that she delivered under all those circumstances - how to walk, a new voice coach, a live audience, millions watching, and no mike to hold, I am more in awe of her abilities.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 24, 2009
I think Susan was nervous at the beginning but who wouldn't be with the whole world watching. Good grief. I couldn't do it.

What a fantastic performance. I can see Susan making CD's but also in theatrical productions both serious and comedy as she has the ability to do both. Kudos to Susan. I love this sweet ladies voice. She is sensational. :)

Susan you were totally awesome after you got over the nervous beginning (who wouldn't be nervous knowing millions of people were watching and expecting another spectacular performance). Memory is not an easy song to sing but you nailed it! When you sing from your heart, your natural talent and beauty really shines. That is why we love you. May all your dreams come true, Susan.

Wow!! Another stunning performance although shaky at the beginning. Probably from a bout with nerves since all of the British Isles and other countries are watching. Susan, thank you for sharing your beautiful vocals with us. I hope you will do an album soon and sing a duet with Paul Potts, another favorite of mine.
Posted by NarnianGirl on May 25, 2009
Thank you great British public for doing your duty and voting for Susan! Love you for that. Allikat's analysis was very enlightening. I wonder if someone from Britain might confirm if there really is a rule in BGT that the Finale performance must be the same as the audition - or is it only a habit? Diversity was talking about 'new stuff' they will prepare for the Finale. So why should singers stick to their audition piece?
Posted by boavista on May 25, 2009
She moves me to tears.

Awkward start with nerves (no wonder) effecting her voice but just when I thought 'oh no' she dug deep with true courage and determination and performed as we know she can. Beautiful voice and a beautiful person. You can sense she's been through the ringer in her life yet she is fighting with her talent to be someone and in so doing she gives us all hope. Brilliant.
Posted by rhk111 on May 25, 2009
She definitely had the case of jitters on her first two lines. But who can blame her? After all, more than 100 million people watched her first performance on Youtube. LOL.
Posted by husker2 on May 25, 2009
What she is doing for classical music might, finally, bury rap.

I would like to see her do more jazz / blues, but I believe there isn't anything she couldn't do..

What a gift! And what a tragedy that it hasn't been found - until now.

The mirror.co.uk says " Just before singing, Susan said: “I am always driven to prove myself, to show I have something to offer.

“This is my chance to turn things around. I just want that one chance to perform in front of the Queen.

“Performing in the final would be a real challenge, but I like a challenge.”

Susan, dubbed the Hairy Angel, was racked by nerves and suffering exhaustion before she took to the stage.

She said: “I’m very nervous. I don’t really know what to expect. I’m just going to go out there and do my best again.”

Why do they have to describe her as the "hairy angel"? Cheap shot!

I do hope that SuBo will be able to feel well with all of the success that can come her way..
Posted by Rocky10 on May 25, 2009
Well I've watched the performance several times and I think it was quite disappointing.

Clearly she was suffering from nerves at the beginning and that is hardly surprising especially after the big build up and Simon's comments just before she appeared but even after she recovered there were several more mistakes.

I can't help thinking if she had performed like this in the auditions she would not have got through to the semi finals.

Given the comments made by the judges about several of the other performers I was surprised they were so positive about Susan. I guess, like us, they were desperate for her to go through to the final given the worlwide attention.

We know she has great talent. Let's hope she shows it again in the final as I would not like her to win based on a performance like this.

Susan, rock that audience again on Saturday. We know you can do it. Good luck.
Posted by martyn on May 25, 2009
she sang it beautifully and perfectly if you've ever seen the show you'd know that, don't forget this is a complete unknown and in the last couple of weeks everyone in the world now knows who she is. the world needed Susan Boyle and she cam among us - fair play to her she deserves to sing before all the kings and queens and I too can't wait for her album - it will outsell the beatles!
Posted by Rocky10 on May 25, 2009
Oh and I agree with what Allicat posted earlier. I would prefer Susan to "nail it" in the final and lose to someone who performs better than to win with a poor performance just because everyone decided in advance to vote for her no matter what.

And before the attacks begin I think she is potentially fabulous if she can choose the right song (should be possible) and lose the nerves (not so easy).

Good luck Susan.

I was totally wrung out from emotion last night. A few thoughts. I too thought she was holding back last night, and probably the result of the "coaching". That's wrong for her. She is not a complete novice. She has worked with a voice coach previously and she has sung a lot even though not in this type venue. I think she knows her voice and exactly how to use it, and I think she should be left to sing as she feels right, not given a lot of "coaching" or suggestions that just interfere. Being the modest person she is even though she knows she has a wonderful voice, she probably thought she should do as they told her, that they were the "professionals". Someone here said they felt she had oversung I Dreamed a Dream in the audition. I do not agree at all. I felt she did it just right. And if it is true that she will sing it again in the finals, I hope they leave her alone and let her sing it as she did before. After all, she sent a bolt of lightning through milliions of hearts around the world without any help form these professionals. Let Susan be Susan. More to say shortly.

Posted by purplegothicqueen on May 25, 2009
I was so sorry she was nervous at the beginning, it seems that the critics are not making much allowance for such nerves. She had to wait until last to perform and then was given a massive build up, it isn't surprising really that nerves got the better of her, but she delivered the song and sung it perfectly after overcoming those nerves. I hope her confidence isn't hit by the harsh words of some people on youtube. They are positively nasty. Keep up the good work Susan, I think you are amazing and you sung "Memories" brilliantly.

I think having gotten through the semifinals and into the finals Susan will probably not be as nervous for the finals. I think she perhaps can realize now to some extent how much support she has amongst the people.

Have some things to say and would like some feedback if you will. It just breaks my heart when I hear Susan say things like, wanting to prove she's not worthless, I won't be lonely now, I'd like to get enough money to buy my house, etc. So much in life we haver had that we take for granted from material things to being treated with respect. I don't understand the people in her village. She was mocked by the other children in school. I know children can be cruel, but didn't their parents and teachers even try to put a stop to it. And from what we read, apparently even to the present children in the village have mocked her. For God's sake, where are the parents and others for this to take place. I may be out of date at 71, but this is not the way I was raised. And her family. We know how much she loved her mother. And she says she has a wonderful family. But, how could she feel worthless no matter what others did if her family members were giving her the respect and affirmation they should have been.

It is truly amazing to me that she has through all this somehow maintained the courage and determination, strength and dignity (along with that wicked sense of humor and fun) that we have seen. She is so far above the villagers and the family, it can't be measured. She said that for the semi-finals she had a niece and some friends there. Where the you know what were the brothers and sisters?

I just feel so strongly about Susan that I would like to go over there and, as we say in the South, have a "come to Jesus meeting" with them, and tell them about themselves and how far they failed this woman.

Ok, that's it for now. Any comments welcome

HERE IS WHAT PIERS MORGAN'S HAD TO SAY........ "Well, one thing’s for sure, I’m never going to forget what happened to me at 10.32pm last night. Because that was the moment when Susan Boyle ran down a flight of stairs at the Fountain Studios in Wembley, North London, flung herself into my arms, and planted a five-second ’smacker’ right bang on my lips! It wasn’t entirely unexpected. A few minutes earlier, Susan had declared her feelings towards me in a rather more public way by dancing a little jig of joy on stage after winning last night’s first Britain’s Got Talent semi-final, and shouting: ‘THIS IS FOR YOU, PIERSY BABY!’ But that was positively restrained compared to what happened backstage. To say Susan was pleased at getting through to the final is probably the understatement of the century. You have to remember that until a month ago nobody had ever heard of her, but now she is the most downloaded, and talked about, woman on the planet. The pressure that comes with all that attention is absolutely huge, and I could tell she was incredibly nervous when I spotted her standing on her own in a corner backstage before the show started. Then she came out and missed her very first note on Memory, and I think everyone watching feared it had finally got to her. But Susan quickly recovered, got into her stride, and ended up delivering an absolutely stunning version of the Cats musical classic that brought house down, and thrilled the world all over again just as she did in her original audition. If you thought she looked thrilled on stage, you should have seen her off it. She was absolutely exploding with excitement, relief and pure, unrestrained joy. ‘You did it!’ I said to her, as I spied her heading up the stairs near the judges’ dressing room area. ‘Oh Piersy!’ she shouted, then skipped down the stairs, jumped on me and kissed me full on the lips for quite some time. ‘I’ve been kissed now!’ she laughed, then she danced another jig, and ran off again. I’ll be dining out on that for the rest of my life! Susan’s a fantastically unspoiled, delightfully warm lady, with a wicked sense of humour and a love of life that endears her to everyone. I couldn’t be happier for her that she is now living her dream".

I always feel like Piers is taking advantage to put himself forward, like isn't it amusing that this plain little village woman thinks I'm wonderful. (not that she is plain)

In another blog Piersy baby said..." a rather attractive Canadian lady came up to me by the pool of my Beverly Hills hotel yesterday, and said: ‘Oh my god, I love your face in the Susan Boyle video. So kind and sensitive..’

When I’d stopped laughing (these are not allegations I’ve ever faced before), she added: ‘My friend and I would like to take you to dinner tonight….’

I couldn’t make it, but I do want to thank Susan for all she is doing for my street cred in America."

Susan touches the toughest judges...even Simon who can be so blunt, seems more caring now!

Susan gives hope to many who have been made to feel "worthless" in society. I love her and wish her all the best. She is a symbol of brightness in these dark times. Britain is lucky to have you, Susan. Can't wait for you to come to the U.S.

Piers, on the Larry King show, did invite her out for dinner....I wonder when that will happen....maybe after the show is over! I hope he realizes that Susan is probably more famous than he is.

Howdy Pards,

The enthusiastic, heartfelt standing ovation by all the judges including Simon...and the audience both in the theater and at home...the love and appreciation and joy being expressed by the vast, vast majority who witnessed her performance...the votes by the British public...all these things are absolutely, undeniably real...they actually happened. In these situations the vast majority rules over the perfectionists who are in the extreme minority. Thats just the way it is. Susans performance lifted the world wide audience once again and it is time to just celebrate that! It is time for us to stand firmly behind her! Especially here on our Susan Boyle Fans Site! What happened yesterday is just a memory now...on to the finals and ultimate victory! On to a performance for the Queen and a CD for the entire world! On to the dawn of a brand new day...for Susan and for all of us.

Is Susan a worthwhile person? Of course she is! Does she deserve to have her dreams come true? Of course she does! Millions and millions of us throughout the world stand firmly behind Lady Susan as she reaches for her dreams. That is just the way it is! We love her, pure and simple...and that love is absolutlely real! It's time to celebrate! Adios for now. Talk to ya on down the trail. Wild Ol' Dan

"The reason for Susan's nerves"

http://talent.itv.com/news/story/item_100187.htm

If you thought Susan Boyle looked nervous when she stepped on stage to sing Memory, you'd be right. That's because during rehearsals, Susan nearly fell over as she walked toward her microphone, on the stage.

She told us, "I got a bit of shock during rehearsals - I nearly fell flat on my face"!

To keep accidents at bay, the soles of Susan's shoes were scored so they gripped better - and Susan breathed a sigh of relief when she made it across the stage!

The Lothian lady enjoyed her time backstage preparing - although the pampering made her a little perplexed.

She told us, "Every few minutes, someone comes up to me and asks me to back to make-up".

"I've been in there three times already - but I keep going back again".

"It's all going to be very thick by the time we get to show time".

"It's a job that's never finished - like painting the Forth Bridge!"

Bookmaker William Hill has cut Boyle's odds of winning to 8/13, the shortest price in the BGT show's history

Meggsy, I think that is hilarious. lol So, she finally got her kiss from Piers, or rather he got a kiss from her. Way to go, Susan. She is so spunky and delightful. I love it. lol

When she first appears on screen, poor Susan looks like a deer in the headlights. Imagine the pressure on this homebody, who has never held down a regular job! Are the contestants able to hear the comments on stage before they come out- Simon saying, "Such pressure - wouldn't want to be in HER shoes right now"? Thankfully, the camera cuts away, and whe it returns, her smile is back.

She fumbles the first few note or two from nerves, calms herself (hand on midsection) and proceeds to get On With It. What a pro.

Interestingly, in Susan's case, the few fumbles over the past 7 weeks seem only to endear her more throughout the world. We love her on so many levels, not the least being her simple humanity.

The rest of the song is beautiful. Parts are glorious. It didn't have the same emotional impact on me that I Dreamed A Dream did; maybe because I was stressed for her yesterday; maybe b/c that initial glitch put me on edge for her; maybe b/c Memories just wouln't have been my first song choice. But no matter; she pulled it off splendidly.

Her appearance - terrific! A little hair color, cut and style, not particularly dramatic, just in a manner flattering to both her hair type and facial structure. The dress was flattering, understated, provided some contrast to her skin tone and complemented new hair color. No more 'white on rice" gold dress / gray hair; no more Hairy Angel (I HATED that phrase . . . ) NO ONE is laughing now.

It has been a COMPLETE PRIVILEGE to witness the rebirth of this outstanding lady - from self-described "worthless person" (no! no! no!!!!) to international superstar. You go, Susan - LYLAS!!!!!!!

I can't stop watching her Semi-final performance. How beautiful and lovely she looked and that voice! Despite how it started in the first few bars of the song, you cannot deny THAT VOICE. Like someone said, she had to wait a long time for her turn on stage. Than couple that with the whole world waiting for her to sing. This was a humble lady from a small village to have that pressure is more than nerve wrecking but a pressure beyond belief. Overall she did WOW me and drove me to tears yet again. Because her voice is stunning and continually tugs at my heart. I'm definitely buying her CD, download anything of her online and can't wait to see her live on Broadway and concert. She has made my top list of the great singers of my lifetime and beyond... she's right up there with Judy Garland, Streisand, Lupone, Dion, Ella, Flack, Diana Ross, The Beatles .... Susan to the Finals and beyond! Hip hip- HOORAY!

I love Susan's hairstyle. It perks her up. Yep, noone is laughing now. I wish only the best for her.

A second remarkable performance yesterday was Denyce Graves singing the "Battle Hymn of the Republic" on the west lawn of the capitol (USA). Susan and Denyce almost gave me emotional overload.

Susan Boyle 'cracking' under the pressure?

Susan Boyle was said to be "close to cracking" after being told that an audience of 50million viewers will watch her sing live on Britain's Got Talent tonight. 24 May 2009 10:10 AM 2071 Views Susan Boyle was said to be "close to cracking" after being told that an audience of 50million viewers will watch her sing live on Britain's Got Talent tonight.

Insiders told the Daily Star Sunday that Susan has been given the coveted final performing slot on tonight's live semi-final.

The show is being broadcast to a global audience via the official website and Talent bosses are hoping for a record audience for the programme.

However, sources have said that they are concerned that Susan might "crack" under the massive pressure of performing before the global audience.

An insider said: "She has coped with all this sudden fame amazingly well.

"But she hasn't been smiling so much over the last couple of days.

"There was no pressure during her audition. But there is now. The whole world will be watching her.

"If she does choke, there will be no hiding place. And being last on the bill means there will be plenty of time for the tension to mount."

Susan admitted that she will be "very nervous" but said that she will give the best performance that she can.

She said: "The largest audience I have performed to before this show was around 500 people in a local theatre for the Voluntary Arts Council in West Lothian.

"I never even thought I'd get past the judges. I can't believe I am in the semi-finals and I've been overwhelmed by the public reaction to my performance.

"I will be very nervous but I am just going to go out there and do my best."

I just saw an interview with Piers and Amanda on the Early Show (on the US east coast). Got to love Amanda- she's keeps Piers in check with humor. He shared about the kiss after the show. They shared about the start of the song and how she pulled it together and the fans pulling for her. They would like her to sing 'I dreamed a dream' for the final before a live audience show. The interview was good humored. In response to DANNYG, I hope her sisters and brothers will give only support to Susan. From the beginning I've felt a little connection with Susan's life (being constantly teased as a kid, being the youngest, taking care of our Mom in the hosue I grew up in, who passed away in Feb., and being single). People can be very complicated and I hope that some light into how people treated her and her relationships will come into the light not to embarrass but to let others know that they are not alone. Family members can either complicate things or be supportive. Susan seems to be a 'forget the negative and move on' kind of person and perhaps that's the greatest lesson we can learn from her. Love her, Jan

Stunningly spectacular!! Susan, if you read these posts, please choose "Climb Every Mountain" as your song for the Finals. You certainly had to climb many mountains in your life, but the BGT show provided you the means to truly find your dream. I am looking so forward to the finals. Best of luck, but you don't really need luck as your talent is absolutely HUGE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! As the cable guy in America would say, just "GET'ER DONE!!!"

Rocky10 = thanks for the article. Goodness! I don't know if that was smart of them to tell Susan right before the big performance that over 50 million people from around the world will be watching her sing! No wonder the poor woman wobbled a bit on her first few notes of the song. To put pressure on a person from a tiny village with no professional experience whatsoever she shouldn't be criticized for her 2nd performance, then. She's probably the first BGT favorite to have gone through like this in the history of the show - where the whole world is watching her every move and every attire. Overall, Susan gave another powerful show. Her voice soared. It was another knockout. On to the finals! I hope they televised her performance in front of the Queen so I can see! =)

PS... That was a great team effort Susan Boyle Fans! Let's do it again on Saturday, May 30! The Voting Team effort on this site was INCREDIBLE! Kudos to our UK viewers! xoxoxo

I see Susan is a fan of John Cleese and "Fawlty Towers." She has eclectic taste: a sign of great intelligence.

This is very strange actually because I coincidentally watched the episode where Manuel says "I know nothing, I know nothing, I'm from Barcelona," a few days ago... I was blown away when she quoted it. She has great wit.

Fawlty Towers is a old show. John Cleese will love this!
Posted by pottedferne on May 25, 2009
Also a big fan of Fawlty Towers and John Cleese. I would have loved to see Susan take on Compo in "The Last of the Summer Wine". He would have met his match for once. In keeping with Brit sitcoms, do some of the judges remind you of Jeeves and Bertie Wooster!! No names are called here.

Susan has a sharp and clever wit that I love. It is possible that she was dyslexic as a child.
Posted by Spammetje on May 25, 2009
Susan, if you read this, congratulations for reaching the finals of BGT. From all the contestants, you're the one I think, who deserves it the most to perform in front of the queen.

Your voice is absolutely wonderful. Reaching the high notes with great volume and keep singing instead of shouting (like Celine Dion, for example) give me goosebumps every time I listen to your performances.

I hope that when you sing in the final you can control your nerves (nearly made me afraid when you started to sing in the semi-final) and are accustomed to the 50 million viewers worldwide.

I wish you all the luck in the world and hope you will win the final. Spammetje, The Netherlands

PS Although you had 2 wobbly moments in your semi-final performance, I can tell you that none of the 7 semi-finalists (I refused to look at Nick Hell; found him disgusting) were perfect in their performance. Nerves seem to be a problem for all of them.

Is it true people only have 10 minutes to vote? So are the acts and results done in one show?
Posted by newswatcher on May 25, 2009
I have watched Susans performance several times. Maybe it is just because I am a nurse, but it seems to me that she is out of breath when she reaches the microphone. Her first couple of notes were not up to her standard. We don't know how far she had to walk before coming on stage. She clutches her stomach at the beginning also. A combination of nerves and being out of breath perhaps? The song she chose was grand and she was able to recover nicely. She is not a quitter. I am looking forward to her Cd's and DVD's.
Posted by BJG on May 25, 2009
Newswatcher: Susan had an interview and explained she had a cold that that was one cause of her wobbly initial few notes. Someone else said she nearly fell a couple of times and they had to rough up the soles of her shoes. She seemed ever so ready for the finals -- and quite confident! You can spot the new interview as she has her yellow blouse on today.

Allikat: I am not going to worry about it. All will be fine. Don't stop giving music lessons -- that really helps in understanding the significance of what she is doing.

With all of that pressure, I can't believe she sang at all. I did not want to be in her place, but was so proud of her performance. Once again she overcame difficulties and finished well, just like what she seems to do with her everyday life. I hope Ms. Boyle will be relaxed on her final performance. There is no reason to be nervous now .... just be herself and sing the way only she can. My advices to her.... don’t be nervous to lose something she does not have (yet). Entertain us ... that is what a great performer does. It helps to take the pressure off her back. Ms. Boyle .... don't think too much ... just sing! You will be perfect. Luv ya! Ciao

I just read that a noted singer slammed Susan Boyle by saying she is "overrated". In her post she said Susan was off key and off time. I am sure that when this singer first started out, she also had some rough moments. Susan is NOT a professional singer. The BHT is a contest not a professional concert. Susan had some issues to overcome and overcome them she did. Fighting a cold and I understand that she almost fell during rehersal. She could have just quit and walked off stage after the first few notes but didn't. She made up her mind to finish the song. We here in America just love her and would love to see her dreams come true. There has been much negative input since her last performance, but people have to remember that this was a live performance and not taped. She was very nervous. No matter how it turns out, we want only the best for Susan from here on out. She is a very worthwhile person and an inspiration to all. God bless you Susan.

Have seen Susan's performance a dozen times on YouTube et.al. other websites, indeed she did have "issues" with first two lines of "Midnight" verse but recovered very quickly. The "Jesus Light" effect for the "Touch Me" verse was "brilliant" to say the least! Look closely at the horizontal clouds floating across the upright pillar where the "Jesus Light" is, you'll see a (dark) Christian cross - no kidding!

Congradulations to Charlie Boy's parents celebrating 50 years of marrage, my parents had their 68th on February 22nd, better still, all their children who'd made it out of infancy are still alive!

Good news for us fans. After Lilly Allen trashed Susan all over the internet yesterday....there are many positive things about Susan this morning. Piers Morgan wrote on his web blog, that Lilly Allen was perhaps jealous of Susan. Demi Moore is flying in to see Susan perform live at BGT and Simon, per Amanda's request paid for the tickets when they found out Demi wanted to come. And, others have come forth to state their opinions of Susan's last performance which were only praises. God is looking after our Susan. It's all about faith...just let her sing.
Posted by tweek on May 27, 2009
By the way, I stayed up half the nite squashing nasty comments off Susan's you tube videos. People don't need to see all that garbage. I believe a lot of comments are probably made by smart mouthed teenagers...or Lilly put people up to it. What goes around, comes around... if she did.
Posted by tweek on May 27, 2009
I have to make one more comment here. For those that do not know, "Memories" is a very difficult song to sing with many ups and downs in the ranges. Susan chose this song, I believe, because she wanted to prove to herself she could top her previous performance with I Dreamed A Dream. She could have picked something easier and made life easier for herself but she wanted not just to be good but sensational. And, that she was! A true performer is always hardest on themselves. So she slipped on the first couple notes, she came back fantastically. It's all about recovery. She's not only good, she's the best!
Posted by HAPPY on May 27, 2009
I agree with you that Memories is a much more difficult song which raised her singing to an even higher standard than what she'd reached with I dream the dream. I also believe the new coaching helped her reach crystal clear notes while enhancing her mellow contralto.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 27, 2009
It's not only Miss Lily Allen trashing Susan. Better pray for Susan. The media is going after her in London. They are saying she was in a hotel with 150 people and when Piers stated that Shaheen was the best single he had heard that Susan let go with cuss words and a finger. Susan's people that are with her denied the story and said it wasn't true. I didn't want to post this but we need to uphold Susan even more than we are doing now. I had posted before that they crucified Susan because she missed a note which every professional singer has done at one tme or another and Shaheen messed up the first part of his song Saturday and they let jhim off scot free. Piers said he was the best so far. The only reason I have posted this is to let our fan club know we need to support Susan even more, The media can be great or they can destroy people. Our lovely Susan needs us more than ever !!
Posted by mdillow31 on May 27, 2009
Piers Morgan is playing with Susan's affections and I don't know how this man could do this to Susan right before May 30th. I am on Piers blog and I posted this to him along with others who feel the same way :

I am vey disappointed. Piers, you have let Susan down. Susan misses a note and people crucify her and Shaheen messed up on the first part of his song Saturday night and nothing is said. And you said he was the best you had heard. Shaheen doesn’t have it yet but he will get there eventually. If it wasn’t for Susan Boyle .. BGT, Amanda and you Piers would not be known throughout the world. SUSAN made itpossible for all of you to become known. If it wasn’t for Susan BGT wouldn’t be where it is right now. Susan’s popularity has grown more than you think. We now have several fan clubs for her of which one I am on. We are sending her roses and messages of support. And Amanda did give SUSAN credit for Amanda’s new job at CBS as a news anchor starting June 1st. Amanda said she had gone to Los Angeles for interviews for 15 years and never made it until SUSAN brought CBS attention to Amanda because of Susan’s newly found fame.

I THINK YOU AND BGT OWE SUSAN BIG TIME !!!!

It's all a blur to me now, as for a short time there were millions of people all sitting with their eyes glued to their televisions, computers, cellphones, watching Britain's Got Talent, the look on their faces, as Susan's video replay comes on. Remembering where they were the first time they heard those magical angel like notes, coming from the wee lassie from Blackburn West Lothian. A collection of villages in Scotland, just outside of Glasglow. Hearing the song, "I dreamed a dream", like something out of Andrew Lloyd Webers, most fantastic dreams, of how he envisioned the song to be sung. The watching of the posts numbers rising higher and higher. Fan sites appearing all over the place, television interviews, new paper articles, internet articles. Then, the long wait, the anticipation, and guessing to what the next selection would be. Then again, she appeared before us all, and did a masterful job of singing, "Memories", like something from the heavens itself came down and blessed us all. She really has brought much joy to this world, so many people have a renewed sense of "I can do this". She's shown us all it's never too late. I am so looking forward to this Saturday's final. She's a true star, he voice will carry us to the heavens, and her modesty will keep us firmly planted on the ground. Her humour and her grace will keep us loyal, and loving towards her.

As well I agree with mdillow31, it was Susan that not only put Glasglow on the map, but BGT on the map. She's been a huge boost for the show, and it's celebrities, even though now she's a more recognizable face than them.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 27, 2009
I hope Susan sings something else besides Memory for the finals. It has been suggested that she sing I Dreamed a Dream again by Amanda and Piers in a interview I saw. I don't know how the finals work but I wish BGT would let Susan feel more free as in her first audition. She went out there to make them rock and so she did. I am for less restraints on Susan and let her sing and shine the way she feels. As Frank Sinatra said " I did It My Way." So. let Susan do it her way. :)
Posted by mdillow31 on May 27, 2009
I found this by Amanda: "Susan Boyle is a woman who has gone from anonimity to worldwide fame. She definitely felt the pressure tonight and missed a few notes at the start due to horrendous nerves ( who can blame her?) but she really pulled it back very professionally, managed to centre herself and overcome everything to hit that fab note mid song! She did herself proud at the end.

I love the fact that she's a little bit bonkers!! Very charming and funny. Just not sure about her taste in men!!!! ( she fancies the pants off Piers)"

Comment by Simon:

"Simon Cowell has revealed that he wants to produce a Hollywood blockbuster movie about Susan Boyle's life story.

Susan has become a global superstar ever since her performance of "I Dream A Dream" from Les Miserables hit the internet video site YouTube and there has mounting speculation that there will be a movie made about her amazing journey to fame.

Cowell told The Star that he plans to secure the film rights as he believes Susan's story will make a terrific movie.

He said: "I am thinking about buying the movie rights. I haven't bought them but I would, definitely. I think it would be a great movie.

"It's astonishing really because she was living on her own and she lives with a cat, never been kissed and she has had 100million hits in a week on YouTube."

Any film of Susan's life would be almost certain of a huge audience, especially in the US where the singer enjoys massive support.

Susan has recently been interviewed by Oprah Winfrey and was also invited to attend a dinner with the US President Barack Obama.

A friend said: "She's become bigger in America than Britain.

I think the Yanks would start World War Three if she doesn't win. The Americans are absolutely obsessed with her.""

I read Piers Morgan's comments and he is to be commended for his defense even if he is, perhaps, partly the cause of her angst. I am very suspicious of these recent events - it seems to me that there is a movement afoot to discredit Susan and to take advantage of the fact that she is prone to lose her temper and utter profanities. Those who attempt this do so for their own greed. We must not let these people distract her or her fans from what is necessary. We must show our loyalty to her even more in the face of this despicable action. Vote and keep on voting on Saturday and bring Susan the victory that she truly deserves.

The press isn't the only ones responsible for this media mess that Susan finds herself in. BGT has not protected her and Piers has led her on. I hold them all responsible for the position they have put Susan in and I posted it to Piers blog. Piers should have never have led Susan on and made the remarks that Shaheen was the best he had heard. I don't believe for one minute that Susan didn't hear of it.
Posted by mdillow31 on May 28, 2009
Piers Morgan is part of Susan's problem. He led her on about a date and after she sang Memory backstage she ran to Piers and he said Susan kissed him on the lips and the wiggle everyone has been talking about was for Piers. The media is evil. I wouldn't put it past BGT to do this to drive up the ratings for Sat night. But that is using Susan and they don't care if she gets hurt. And where is her family ? They need to be with her.
Posted by Aberdeen1 on May 28, 2009
Susan don't let the tabloids get to you especially the Sun.The question is for them, what have they done for the good of society. You have worked hard to get where you are. Keep your head down sing like an angel on Saturday, do not get nervous because you know you can do it and then laugh at the Sun when you win. The Sun is relunctant to print anything that is good, it does not sell newspaper and they will alway try to discredit whatever they can get their hands on even things that are good and that is you. Don't get dispondant, be brave and have the last laugh on them. As a priest I will say a mass for you on Saturday. Remember this is your time. Good luke and God Bless.

I thought Susan was a little nervous at the beginning of "Memory," but I heard her say on an after-the-show video that she had a cold. I also heard Piers say that his date with her could not be before the finals, and that he indeed will take her out to dinner when they're over. I understand that she is being well cared for by BGT, so I have no fears about the finals for Susan.

Piers was on the news today saying Susan had her bags packed to leave. I am assuming that BGT must have done something rather quickly to remedy the situation as Susan is now staying for the finals. BGT better protect our Susan and get their act together

Susan, I would love to hear you sing "White Rose of Athans". I am betting no one can sing it as beautiful as you. I hope your first music CD will be selling in the United States as, I want a copy. Could listen to you sing all day. Good luck Saturday. My money is on you as the winner. God gave you the voice of an angel. We love you Susan.

Susan, all the best for tommorow. You are still a star even if you lose which might be a greater benefit for you. The Cowell Machine can be very stressful, but you have a fan base all over the world ( a few million in America for starter!). Just get yourself a good agent and you cannot lose. Don't take this competition too seriously and enjoy the moment. The Good Lord is with you every step of the way. You are singing - not feeding the 5,000 in a drought ridden country. God Bless Eileen

I really hope that Susan Boyle gets to read these blogs so she can get some positive encouragement. It really worries me when I hear that she is in a fragile state at the moment - but who in her shoes wouldn't be!! When I saw her first performance on BGT I was awestruck at the beauty of her voice and for me the most powerful aspect of this was the sense of her soul that I felt. It was wonderful that someone deemed 'plain' sang in such a way, and indeed I thought her inner beauty came through in the way her face lit up. I also don't think that she is plain - she just has never bothered to use fashion and make-up and hair stylists etc to accentuate her features. So what if she has a bit of weight on - most of us at 48 have a bit of pud!

I hope that she can centre herself before the finals. I think she can - she seems quite self contained when she walks out onto the stage to me! And the hip wiggles are great fun.

Best of luck Susan, from another Susan born in 1961, living in Perth, Western Australia. I have played your first audition piece many, many, many times! If I feel down it makes me smile. You'll be right - I know it as you are a good and decent person.

Susan is at Priory Clinic. Her GP is there and has recommended she take 2-3 days off to recouperate from exhaustion. Everything seems OK.
