Let's talk Roses
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 25, 2009

Firstly, thanks to all members for showing their support for Susan in the Semi-Finals and to everyone that voted her through. We need to keep this support up for her appearence in the Final on Saturday.

We have been trying to think of solutions for the "Roses For Susan" idea in a way that would be beneficial to everyone.

roses.jpg

What does everyone think about getting the flowers sent to the London Television Studios prior to Susan appearence in the Final on Saturday?

The best solution we can think of at the moment is getting a florist's website to submit a link or maybe for members to quote a reference i.e. 'Susan-Boyle.com' when ordering, so that people can order their own individual flowers with a personalised message and pay for them direct. Then all orders submitted by a deadline will be sent to Susan together, so that she is aware all of the flowers and tributes have come from her many fans, here at www.Susan-Boyle.com.

It would be great if we could get the florist to take some pictures of all the floral tributes from her No.1 Fansite together before they are sent. We could then post these pictures up here for everyone to see.

We have so far pitched the idea to Interflora who have advised a manager would need to deal with this but there was none available at this time of night, we will contact them first thing in the morning to speak about this to them again if you want to carry forward this idea?

If anybody else has other ideas which could work better then please leave your suggestions.

We would like to agree on some sort of arrangement as soon as possible so that we can make this idea a reality.

Thanks to everyone who has given their thoughts so far and the above is just an initial idea by us, we want to do something that all fans are happy with.

..... this is touching and a lovely initiative ! .... count me in .... if i can indeed purchase the flowers because i live in holland ......
Posted by NarnianGirl on May 25, 2009
Thanks a lot. Please do go ahead and proceed with practical arrangements with Interflora, so you can come up with a workable solution before Saturday. I would prefer to send my donation / rose payment to a speficic Britain-located PayPal account, a not sure I can pay directly w/ my debit card ... (No, I'm not a Nigerian con w/ a fake PayPal, it's just that my debit card is not accepted in every online shop.)

THANK YOU PAUL! Wonderful! Finally our plan got off to a start =)

I really really think susan boyle is equisitly great, and would love for her to win. Does any one agree?

I would just like to add, that i think she could sing Randy Crawford 'One day i'll fly away' wonderfully

Love from Jayne

I think you need to think about the consequences of thousands of floral tributes showing up, as that is indeed what might happen. My guess is that Susan Boyle would prefer seeing a charitable contribution in her name to some worthy cause rather than receiving a mountain of flowers that would by and large go to waste. Just my two cents.
Posted by MJ from USA on May 25, 2009
This is was my initial idea earlier but you can modify it or think of another plan.......

contact a florist to make a Susan-Boyle FanSite Account and we all go to that site and pay for one rose each to form a bouquet?

I do think it's best to give the roses after she wins (I just know she will) but do it on the night of the finals. I don't like to see her get overwhelmed and add more pressure on her.
Posted by BJG on May 25, 2009
My suggestions: KEEP IT SIMPLE. One florist, clear point of payment for members. Do you want a corsage for Susan you can give her AFTER the announcement she has won; Maybe one to wear for the 3 Judges too; Good idea to have a computer generated list of all the members, and maybe a sort by geographic location or whatever. Select one presentation, decide on the money to spent, and then order whatever the number of flower displays, etc to spend the money. Great idea! Be sure you check with BGT so it is not a surprise to them. They need to be fulling included.

Count me in.
Posted by lildinks on May 25, 2009
Wow what a voice. Susan is a diamond in the rough. Just goes to show we should'nt judge a book by its cover. I believe she should win and i pray she will. This is a pure God given talent and her time is now to shine for all the years people didnt let her. Go Susan!!!
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Terrific idea. Agree w/ BJG to keep it simple, simple for us to participate.
Posted by DANNYG. on May 25, 2009
Good comments,BJG. Just please make sure we can use Visa. I'm so excited. Can't wait to see her getting them. Just want her to know that all of them are from one group of fans?, supporters?, devotees?

"Once in love with Susan, always in love with Susan". Remember that oldie.
Posted by Allikat on May 25, 2009
Oh geez--I just fired off my email about this to Paul! All I'll say now is, would there be any way for me to contribute to 'whatever' using my credit card or PayPal account, or would I have to just buy an entire bouquet myself? Right now I can't really afford much all on my own but I'd sure like to do something. The idea of thousands and thousands of flowers all at once, though, seems awfully wasteful to me...

I'll be checking back here later.

I think this is a sweet idea, but please people, can we think about this a minute? I adore Susan and don't want anything to interfere with her performance. Do we know that she doesn't have allergies? I personally don't have allergies, yet being in a room with too many flowers makes my eyes go a bit watery and my throat get a bit dry. As sweet as this gesture is, I just want her final performance to be perfect and not have any hurdles for her to overcome.
Posted by DANNYG. on May 25, 2009
I am really against the charity idea. She has been doing charitable things all her life. Let this be a gift of love for her.
Posted by ndcoop on May 25, 2009
is there any way to get the florist to give part of the proceeds to a charity? I like the idea of a win-win situation... flowers and an additional bonus of helping out an animal shelter, etc. Just a suggestion.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
On the flower comments elsewhere, Wyldirsh suggested and many concurred that truck after truck of roses being delivered to the performance venue would be fantastic! One bouquet is not enough -- these are lovely "votes" from fans around the world who have no other way to show support on the big day/night! An ocean of thousands of individual roses waiting for Susan as she arrived at the venue would say so much (and they could be distributed to hospitals and other places after the show). I'm sure BGT would feature them as part of the program! Plus, a gorgeous bouquet could be delivered on-stage, too!! By the way, one baby naming site has this interesting comment: "The name Rose is a baby girl name. The name Rose comes from the Scottish origin. In Scottish the meaning of the name Rose is: Flower" Roses from around the world, for our Scottish Rose Susan Boyle!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The flowers wouldn't have to go to Susan's dressing room, endangering her if allergy-prone. They could be in the foyer or wherever she might see them for a short time on her way backstage...even all the way around the block if too many for inside!
Posted by PWattis on May 25, 2009
What about some sort of a plaque that says something that conveys how we all feel? What about what Tommy and DannyG said at the end of their "When You Wish Upon a Star" tribute? Maybe that and one bouquet of flowers. And perhaps a donation to her church or a charity of her choice.
Posted by MJ from USA on May 25, 2009
how wonderful if the bouquet of roses from the Susan Boyle FanSite be given to her on stage after she wins? =)
Posted by LucyB on May 25, 2009
A huge gush of roses after the finals is visually a nifty idea, but not a practical one. Why not a few nice bouquets each day of this coming week, with a very special HUGH TRIUMPH bouquet for the Finals on Saturday wishing her the very best from all of her fans at the SuBoFanSite. i would guess that she is staying at the "4-star hotel" during this whole week.
Posted by MJ from USA on May 25, 2009
PKoch = that's another good idea about a contribution to her church besides the flowers.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Agree with DANNYG - this is for Susan. I'm assuming allergies are not a major problem. The gesture is lovely, and the surplus can find a home elsewhere afterwards.
Posted by fossilbarb on May 25, 2009
Donations to Susan's favorite charity in her name?

An experienced florist with good London connections (perhaps JW Flowers in London -- we already emailed them, but if another responds earlier then great) could arrange everything with BGT and might be able to post a big banner and possibly even a list of donors and their cities/countries. Hopefully gigantic... As soon as we get something settled, we need to get the word out to all of Susan's video comment sections, blogs, etc.

RE: KEEP THE VISION!

Remember....a mile of delivery trucks, multiudes of deliverymen all say delivering roses to Susan.

I think DelLeslie and I have the best and easiest idea. I am just waiting back to hear from JW Flora in London..and I think it will all come out BRILLIANT! as the Brits say

Wyldirsh
Posted by Meggsy on May 25, 2009
I like your idea DelLeslie and at the end of the day, the bulk of the roses could eventually go to hospitals, hospices, aged persons residences, churches, etc.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Not ot change the subject, but - just tuned into itv1, the hot hollies are on. Anything of interest happen so far?
Posted by Meggsy on May 25, 2009
Everyone would then benefit from Susan sending a bit of sunshine and love into the lives of countless others.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Wyldirsh, bless your heart!♥♥♥ You see the big picture even from your recovery bed! Everybody, the point is that the whole Susan Boyle phenomenon is a worldwide deluge and can't really be properly expressed in a few bouquets. DANNYG is so right, this is an outpouring of love for Susan herself, who has given so much and received so little in life. Can't we just be extravagent for her sake -- just for her? (OK, afterward the flowers go to hospitals in her name, or churches the next morning, whatever.) A rose is a vote for her!
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
i lost that website to be able to watch itv1..can someone post it please? I want to see who is going to lose to Susan...that was mean spirited..I shouldn't say that....but anyway, was it big dragon brother or something like that?
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 25, 2009
Everybody's ideas are great, thanks!

It has to be simple though and easy for members to participate.

Some ideas may be too complicated and we need to get this started pretty soon if we are to make this happen.

I will talk to interflora again tomorrow and see what they can come up with, they might have more options where people can contribute towards a special bouquet e.t.c.

Please keep your suggestions coming, charity contribution would be nice but maybe we could do this at a later stage?
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Tell me...what florist would have a mile of delivery trucks? Please don't go overboard! Don't overwhelm Susan! Flowers yes, but in moderation.

This is not Lady Di.

Sweet idea folks but don't you think that it might be wiser a day or so after the event ? I wonder if too much of a show of affection might throw her off her game ...if I were her i'd be staying basically in my dressing room from the morning to the night practising and wouldn't really want anybody talking to me about anything. I would just want to have on my mind MY SONG, MY SONG, MY SONG, and then go out and do it and make it happen, or as Susan said "Im going to make that audience rock!" I would encourage you good people just let the song be the only thing on her mind. A few days later maybe the mayor of her town can set this all up where us international fans can show our devotion and appreication in just this type of way. Just a thought.
Posted by PWattis on May 25, 2009
I still think what Tommy wrote at the end of "When You Wish Upon a Star" says it all. He even included that there are over 17,000 of us.
Posted by pottedferne on May 25, 2009
@wyldirsh take care of yourself girlfriend!!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Amanda buzzed Jamie Pugh!! Didn't see his performance or hear her reasoning, tho... So that's it for the only competitor in Susan's demographic or genre! Ten acts in the finals, several in the same demographic or genre, Susan in a category all by herself!!!! ♥♥♥♥ SEND THOSE ROSES!!!!
Posted by PWattis on May 25, 2009
I'm fine with being extravagant with the flowers too! I just would like her to get an overall message about how we feel about her and truly how many there really are of us.
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
Ya PKoch! I agree totally dude!

Wyldirish one from USA
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Both Piers & Simon gave Jamie Pugh a verbal 'thumbs-down', although they didn't buzz him - that he was too cautious / his lack of confidence will prohibit him from becoming a performer.

Next - Peter Coughlin, cross-dresser.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
So correct, PKoch! Remember, she isn't on YouTube getting the daily counts and all over the internet searching for morsels of news! She has had tons of mail, yes, but this is her big week and Saturday is her big day, and we among the nations have only one way to vote in a visible way! I mean, what would a wedding be without flowers? This isn't a wedding, but it is love of another kind!
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Are there any good acts coming up...so far there has been no real competition.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
With ya both, PKoch & Wylirsh. to paraphrase Animal House - we need a totally extravagant, over-the-top gesture. If we send flowers in the #'s I'm contemplating, it would be obvious, the overall message as to how we feel about her.

Cross-dresser buzzed by Amanda & Simon - something about belly button fluff.
Posted by Marie Ursula on May 25, 2009
I love the roses idea ~ visual love votes from afar ~ and will stand by to hear how to send in my order.
Posted by Meggsy on May 25, 2009
So far on BGT, Susan has no need to worry. No competition, she is in a class of her own.
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 25, 2009
@Lovin' Every Minute!

That was just what i was thinking!
Posted by DANNYG. on May 25, 2009
Not Princess Di, true. Better. PKoch, good thought about what Tommy wrote. Alternatively, I still like the words from the last verse of Bridge Over Troubled Waters. "Sail on, Silver Bird, sail on by. Your time has come to fly. All your dreams are on the wing. See how they shine."

I just keep seeing Susan getting our flowers. I'll be tearing up. I wonder if she has ever received flowers in her life.

Anything anyone thinks of to do for Susan, now, or later, I'm up for it.

Have DJ Talent, Merlin Cadogan, Shawn Smith, Flawless gone yet? I see Shawn Smith as the biggest threat of this nite-
Posted by Gypsymoth on May 25, 2009
While I like the idea of sending flowers to Susan on the big day, I really feel that a charitable donation (in Susan's name of course) would make a more considerable impact. She has done so much to lift the spirit of this world with her singing that I just want to continue spreading joy. If I understand correctly, the part of Scotland that Susan is from is a poor area, so I am sure there is a need.
Posted by kittycat on May 25, 2009
Does anyone know why Jamie Pugh was buzzed. Was he on last night too.? Even if Jamie wasn't buzzed Susan would have beat him hands down.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
all 3 judges just buzzed Ant & Dec - - !! Funny!
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Agree, kittycat - Amanda buzzed jamie Pugh, all 3 said his lack of confidence was killing him as a performer
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
@SBF:

KEEP THE VISION going! As Susan says....she just stays focus and does it...its really that simple. No need to complicate things...100,000 roses would do just nicely.

The wyldone
Posted by NarnianGirl on May 25, 2009
How disappointing to see Jamie so uptight and nervous. Simon was probably right when he said that this thing may not be for Jamie. Amanda seemed like 'the baddie' for hitting the buzzer... So, at least Jamie won't be a threat to Susan - the challenege is up to 'Flawless' and Shaun Smith... coming up after the break..!
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Jamie Pugh was buzzed first by Amanda...he was so nervous when he sang that he did not sing well...Simon said he sang the last note quite well!
Posted by RubyRose on May 25, 2009
I think lots and bunches of roses/flowers would be a huge encouragement to Susan. She'd be gobsmacked, for sure. I also love the idea that they could be sent around to hospitals, etc. afterwards, because think how thrilled the folks would be who received the overflow. They'd all be talking about receiving Susan's flowers. Talk about a win/win situation.
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
Actually i thought Garth was rather cute and funny...not in Susan's class...but he was good
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009

Waiting on the voting to be announced. It seems every act thus far has had a case of nerves (last night and tonight). Bless them. No way I could get up on that stage. Shaun was very good. I think Diversity is superior to Flawless.

This contest is Susan's to loose. If she nails the final, no way she can loose. I'd bet some of the judge's comments are aimed at lighting a fire under Susan.

I like the idea of having one Florist to whom everyone can send their donation.

As far as when to have them delivered, maybe the Florist can contact BGT as they may have some rules about this. Imagine if everyone's fans were to do the same thing?

But however it's done, it really is a lovely idea and as others have said, the flowers can go to hospitals etc. afterwards.

Flowers??? If we can all get back to reality, PLEASE. Our world was falling apart - with economy, wars and all things going down the loo. Then along came an Angel-given a special gift of voice, humility along with great sense of humor; an unassuming woman tryng to still now prove her worth. Since then-this woman has proved we are only poor, not because we don't have a pence in our pockets-but we lost sight of our dreams. During the semi-final dress rehersal she slid on the high glossd floor in her new shoes..her shoes were then roughed up-but there was not time for her to try again-that is why she looked so serious. Flowers will wilt and die-and we don't know if she even likes roses!!! Let's not add to the immense pressure she will no doubt feel. But instead give her what she has given to us..HOPE, DREAMS, etc. Set up a charity in her name to be given to where SHE feels the needs are greatest. This way-we have given a portion of ourselves back to our Susan..and she will always remember us and her accomplishment. BUT AFTER THE PERFORMANCE!!!

Delleslie - read Piers' blog - that is HILARIOUS!!

People keep wondering whether Susan will / can keep her unspoiled charm. I think she will. I think some (many??) of her difficulties in life thus far have stemmed from the fact that she is a fiercely independent individual. After seeing her reaction to winning the popular vote last nite, the after-show interview & reading this blog, I'm convinced that she will NOT change (just like everyone in Blackburn seems to say). I just think she's been 'herself' for so long, for better or for worse, and she's not about to stop now. And I'm reminded - one of her stated goals is to "be accepted" . . . . . She's just been waiting for the rest of the world to wake up to her unique & charming personality. May have been "the biggest wake-up call ever. . . . "

Thanks everyone!

Yes we can now talk about the flowers, maybe i put the blog post up too soon to tonight BGT Semi-Final.

O.K. so i'm thinking that most people would be happy to purchase from a chosen florist to send to Susan.

Love the idea of 100,000 roses.

Maybe a 1,000 Roses would be a good target to get.

Members could maybe purchase 1 or 100 and once it reaches a 1,000 roses then that will be it?

That way it will still speak volumes and get the message across of how much we all support her here!

If you like this idea, what do you think a good target would be?

FYI---the member count just went over 18000 for this site!!!
Posted by BJG on May 25, 2009
piggie -- one option would be just a corsage for Susan and button flower for the Judges -- given after the annoumcememt. Is anyone from our Club going to be there to represent us and who could present the flowers? The thought would be there, and maybe it would be an amount more people can afford. One florist could handle it, and we could send the order and the money to the florist -- as they have the financial systems to deal with such things. I support any way you want to go. It would be best if our rep could do the honors and hold on to everything until the right time came. KEEP IT SIMPLE. You don't have a lot of time.

UH...SBF? Got a problem...I posted this idea and about this site..and the roses idea on my twitter account....and now I am getting all these people asking where then can send money to buy a rose for Susan....and also I am getting a lot followers in the past hour because of it....

It just might reach 100,000 roses for the Lady
Posted by BJG on May 25, 2009
OH -I think it very important you give the flowers, no matter what they are AFTER the competion. Our group should have them in hand, and personally give them out. It is very important to check with BGT. If you give them early, you may distract her to worrying about what to do with them, etc., etc. when she should be thinking about her performance to come. We need to keep a steady head about this and not lose track of the reason for what we are doing -- To Distract her before her performance is, I am pretty sure, not on our list! Here, it is the "thought that counts". She is overwhelmed enough now.
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
BJG nice idea but the problem is that most of us don't live in the UK....the reason for the single rose idea...is because we can't vote...so each rose is a vote of confidence to our Susan Boyle...and about being overwhelmed....oh rubbish as the Lady herself would say..she is much stronger then you give her credit for...She is a CELT for criminiy sakes! She can handle anything!

i know this being a Black Irish Celt myself.

Hi Wyldrish, no i don't have a problem.

Was just thinking that this was a good idea.

Sorry if i never credited you for it.

We only have a few days to sort something out.

Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The roses would be delivered to the performance venue foyer or wherever on Saturday morning or afternoon, not to Susan's dressing room or backstage. She won't have to deal with them, but she will have an appropriately brief opportunity to see and appreciate them. The florist could create a banner and/or long list of names of contributors with their cities and countries. This is a lovely way of allowing thousands and thousands of individuals express a vote for Susan in a visible way!
Posted by USABorn on May 25, 2009
I'm in. I like the idea of each of us purchasing a rose for her. The question is will the show be able to handle a possible million roses. It would be great to see roses all over the stage and audience areas.

I don't like the idea of giving to charity in her name. This is about Susan and her fans wanting to recognize her on the show.

@SBF

I have no doubt at all that this will be sorted out within 48 hours....my only problem is the time difference between Philly and London...I am going to be on the phone to JW Flora first thing in the morning.

DelLeslie found the florist..I think he did the right thing...seems that JW Flora handles all the Big Venues for flowers in London..so they can handle this....

I want to see on the American News Stations...the deliverymen walking in line up those steps to the studio all day long delivering roses for Susan!

Can you imagine??? And that WE ALL DID THIS??? Not Just Me....everyone here! you are all wonderful folks

Susan Boyle Fan Site???? As the Lady says...We are going to make this audience rock!!!!!

Thank you BJG..hopefully SusanBoyleFan and the others will hear us. Send too many flowers prior to the performance-it will look like a funeral...and will add to her nerves...we know, no matter the outcome of the finals, Susan will come out a winner in the long run!!! Can we get Piers to give her the flowers from us???

Remember, in the Reuters news feed this morning (sent to all media outlets), they mentioned this exact fan site! Once we get something really established, simple enough for every fan to do, all the media could pick up on it! The key is to have something authentic and not self-servingly spammish/scammish, which would drive people away and nothing would be done.

WITH YOU, WYLDIRSH. AND ALSO, UP THE CELTS.

Posted by Allikat on May 25, 2009
Please, let us know exactly how to do it and I think we will! But what about sending some roses each day beginning as soon as possible to Susan's hotel room? Would that be possible? Spread it all out a little? And along the way, can anyone find out perhaps through someone at BGT just what kind of flowers Susan likes best? (What if it's not roses?) Also, what flowers won't aggravate the cold she's already told us she has?

Surely there will be enough for several arrangements each day, then plenty for the studio on Saturday, and also, make arrangements with BGT for someone attending the show to hand Susan a special rose spray after she performs her Finals song? Or would it be better to wait and give that to her right after (dare I say 'if'?) she is announced as the winner? If the (worst) happens, she can always be given that rose spray later.

I think there should be arrangements made to have bunches of flowers sent to her home, as well--but we need to make sure it happens when she actually gets back there and is in her own home! It's this business of 'knowing' where Susan is at any given time which will be tricky, as that information shouldn't even be made public anyhow.

Paul, I like your idea of no more than 1,000 flowers at a time. Isn't that enough for one day? We could even start with say, 500, in several arrangements, and build from there. Depends upon how much money comes in when, and what the shop is willing to put up with as people either 1) place entire orders on their own, or 2) contribute money in, say, 5 or 10-pound 'batches' (so as to keep things simpler--is a floral shop really going to want to deal with 'one rose' at a time?) and just make all of it 'from the Susan Boyle Fan Site www.susanboyle.com'.

I'm sure you got my message about this earlier--and read what else I said, so now I'm leaving it up to you and folks in the UK to let me know what I can best do. I will say that my credit card is through USAA and can therefore be used internationally; the exchange rate is just 1%. I've sent money to the UK before, using it (for a charity), and it was very quick. It may have involved using PayPal as well--don't remember, but for anyone not in the UK, if you've got a credit card with international use potential, it becomes quite simple to get money over there, and it's safe!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Hmmm...the vast majority of flowers that I've ever sent or received are for happy occasions!!! Definitely Susan's big day is a happy occasion!!!
Posted by BJG on May 25, 2009
Readng all of these notes, etc. leads me to say that 100K roses is probably a VERY BAD IDEA. It will embarrass Susan and it makes the Americans look like overly rich blkes in the midst of wars, and recession. We need to just worry about Susan and not get carried with money or with flowers which can leave her distracted and embarassed. I think the corsages and button hole flowers is about where we should go. Charity and all the rest of that can come later once we know what SUSAN wants us to do. Everybody -- stop and think. Susan is all about moderation.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
There will probably have to be a cutoff time for massive quantities, as determined by the florist, but we should not limit the numbers before the cutoff time. We might give people incentives by setting certain increments, say 1000 roses per increment, but we could keep piling up the increments in the time available. Personally, I like Wyldirsh's vision of 100,000 roses for Susan...
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 25, 2009
Some seem to like the flowers concept, others a charity - is it too complicated to offer both? We seem to have enthusiastic members in each camp, if someone would like to look into the logistics of the charity concept.

Personally, i like the idea of an outrageously extravagant & silly gesture, (i.e. a $#@&load of flowers. Should Tommy be the first or the last deliveryman??? I vote for last!). I suspect that Susan has lived 48 years of practical frugality, and it's an educated guess that she's not received a lot of flower deliveries (at least not prior to 4/11/09). It honors her silly, humorous side, which is what a lot of us find so endearing. I bet she'd think it was a hoot. BUT I understand those who would wish for something more lasting, meaningful. I for one would participate in both flowers AND a charity fund.

I had been on my computer yesterday for 2 hours watching the live feed on ITV1 -- eagerly awaiting the live broadcast of Britain's Got Talent, so I could see it all as it happened -- so amazing to be able to do this on a computer. It was scheduled to begin at 2:30 PM my time -- at 2:20 a wind/rain storm came up, and at 2:25 -- we lost our broadband internet connection. Fortunately, my husband and I are business owners and our business is only a few miles from our home, so I was able to go to my office & watch it, but I was sure upset for a while! Then when Susan stumbled on her first few notes, my heart fell! I cried when she gathered herself and continued on to belt out the rest of the song with that brilliant "Susan Boyle" voice..........like a finely-tuned instrument. I so wish I could hug this lady!

I am sooooooo happy that we got to see Susan! I love this website for giving us that chance. I love the idea of flowers. I hope that all of us in America can contribute. I also love the idea of a charity. Maybe something in memory of her mother?
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
BJG: I am sure that you are a very nice person.....but you got to stop raining on our parade.....I need to take you under my wing and explain to you the difference in seeing a glass half full or half empty...

My whole point of everyone JUST buying one rose is because of the economy. I don't know people's financial situations on here..and I don't want to burden anyone or make anyone feel financial pressure to put out money they don't have...

But I figure if you are on here..you have a computer and you have enough money to pay for an internet server...

then you might have an extra dollar to spend on a rose for Susan. Nothing big or American flashy....I am not saying for you to spend 200 bucks on a floral arrangement...

Just a dollar for a long stem rose.....if everyone put in a dollar for a rose....then each of us as individuals become a whole with our support for Susan....despite whether you only have a dollar in your pocket or a million....a rose crosses all boundaries.....

Some of us prefer to donate to charities anonymously without hype, which would be considerate in a certain way but would not allow for an open outpouring of love for Susan by sending flowers on her special day. Virtually every news account from the UK (plus Simon and Piers) have mentioned the incredible support for Susan from the USA. Even the pre-taped intro to Susan last night, in mentioning the worldwide support, featured several US news sources to illustrate. I don't think Susan or most others would view the Rose Vote as ugly Americanism, but as open-hearted appreciation in a visible way just for Susan!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Very well said, Wyldirsh! The joy of giving generously, even if only two copper coins!!
Posted by ndcoop on May 25, 2009
After delivery, what then? Does the florist take care of picking them up?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Not the florists...how about all of the fans in the performance hall taking them out, or some locals pre-arranging with hospitals, etc.?
Posted by DANNYG. on May 25, 2009
KNOWING HOW LITTLE APPRECIATION SHE HAS APPARENTLY HAD IN HER LIFE (I KEEP THINKING OF THAT STATEMENT OF WANTING TO PROVE SHE ISN'T WORTHLESS, WHICH STABS ME TO THE HEART) I JUST WOULD LOVE TO MAKE THIS A SPECIAL GESTURE TO SUSAN, THE FIRST OF MANY EXPRESSIONS OF LOVE.

LATER ON, SINCE WE SEEM TO AGREE WE WILL CONTINUE ON AND CONTINUE PROVIDING SUPPORT TO SUSAN, I WOULD LIKE THE IDEA OF DOING SOMETHING IN THE NAME OF HER MOTHER. I'M SURE THAT WOULD MEAN A LOT TO HER.

HOWEVER MANY PEOPLE CONTRIBUTE FOR THE ROSES AND HOWEVER MUCH EACH IS ABLE TO GIVE, MY FEELING IS IT WILL ALL BE FROM ALL OF US. JUST AS OUR UK MEMBERS CAST THEIR VOTES ON BEHALF OF ALL OF SINCE WE COULDN'T VOTE.
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
hospitals, hospices, orphanages volunteers I am sure would gladly come and take the roses to their various institutions....Susan can even give some away herself after the show, wow what a Photo OP that would be!!!! To be sure, Piers and Simon would be right there with her for the Photo OP!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
AMEN, AMEN, AMEN, DANNYG!! The part about Susan always having to prove that she wasn't a worthless person really touched us, too. And I think the Rose Vote will go far beyond the people who have specifically signed up for this fan site. Certainly we can be a reputable facilitator, though!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Yes, Wyldirsh, all great about how the roses could be distributed afterward. Everyone will be happy to participate in their own little niche! Amanda would be there, too! :)
Posted by Marie Ursula on May 25, 2009
I wonder if the big florist you-all are talking about would consider subcontracting with smaller florists to provided the 100,000 individual roses. Little florists are just that ~ small business owners trying to make a living in hard times. I also wonder if someone in London could contact the local churches to organize to distribute the flowers after the show. We'd just need to put the word out and they could organize themselves. Your thoughts?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Ant & Dec, too!
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 25, 2009
It looks like the majority here are happy to go ahead with the Roses idea.

Agree with DannyG - Later on we can do other gestures to support Susan. Too many things happening at once could make things very complicated, we need to keep it simple.

Will contact a few top florists first thing tomorrow and hopefully we will be able to arrange something to be set up by tomorrow evening.

Are roses her favorite flower??? Does she have allergies??? What a you chaps THINKING??? I agree with BJG and DANNYG...
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The big florist says on their website: "The flowers for our beautiful fresh bouquets are purchased fresh on the day of dispatch from London's New Covent Garden flower market." Sounds like a gathering point for a lot of suppliers to a lot of florists. Obviously, the big florist could give suppliers or any subcontractors advanced warning if this thing materializes as envisioned.
Posted by SBFII Admin on May 25, 2009
@Wyldirsh - Who have you been in contact with?

Please keep us informed to what you are doing as we need to work together.

I emailed you earlier but have had no response?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Ummm....DANNYG is totally supporting the rose idea, as I understand it. The allergy issue is a little bit removed, because these won't be in her dressing room or backstage. Are roses her favorite flower? Well, Piers said he would give her roses on their date, so I guess if they weren't they will be...
Posted by DES3175 on May 25, 2009
Sounds like a great idea.Although I half expect,if Susan wins, that Piers will go up on stage and give her a kiss and big bunch of flowers, lol.Wouldn't that be a nice end to the fairytale first part of Susans new life?
Posted by sabrina6850 on May 25, 2009
I think each person buying only rose is a wonderful idea. Probably would cost the same as phone-in vote if we lived in the UK.

I do understand the concerns about not being too ostentacious, but it would only cost at most, about $2.00 for each person.

As for how it gets to Susan, I have a feeling that would be up to BGT if it is to be delivered to the venue.

Meantime, as soon as you all hear from the florist, and if there is a paypal account link, I'll tell everyone I know also.

I have a feeling though, when word about this gets out, it might get way bigger than anyone imagined and there might be a lot of money left over.

Maybe we should think where that money should go also, in Susan's name of course. Just in case it's more than 100,000, which would not be a big surprise ~
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The big florist buys flowers here:

New Covent Garden Market is a wholesale fruit, vegetable and flower market, known as 'London's Larder', located in Nine Elms between Vauxhall and Battersea, south west London. Covering a site of 56 acres (227,000 m²), it contains approximately 250 fruit, vegetable and flower companies.

Spread the blessings!!
Posted by AmazinglyCritical on May 25, 2009
OMG Could you imagine how many she'd get? That might make her more nervous for the final and too overwhelmed. How about something simple like a giant electronic card where we can all wish her good luck and she could get a bunch of the responses printed on a regular giant card or two.
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Do you realize you would be spending over $100,000. on flowers...if you are getting them at a dollar each...they are more expensive where I live!

It is going to mighty hard to collect the dollars...who will be in charge of that?

Not to rain on your parade, but Susan has had a lot of flowers and cards sent to her home since her first appearance.

What would Susan do if she had $100,000? I wonder how many flowers she would buy?

Sure ...send flowers....but certainly not $100,000 worth...even if it is over several days.

If you do collect that much money do not waste it on something that will just fade and die! Put it towards a better purpose! Buy the house for her!
Posted by Marie Ursula on May 25, 2009
@AmazinglyCritical

When sports teams play at home with cheering fans, it's called the "home field advantage" because they're energized by the support. Wouldn't roses serve this purpose? We're not trying to be unfair to other contestants; thanks to Susan, they all are getting far more attention than they ever would have.
Posted by Marie Ursula on May 25, 2009
@IvoryMist

Yes ~ $100,000 (plus or minus) to all the little flower growers around London. Don't they have families to support?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Hey, everybody, the point of the whole worldwide Susan Boyle phenomenon is that nobody could contain it and limit it to the pre-planned outcomes! There just happened to be mechanisms available for people to make their own decisions about participating! The Rose Vote is another mechanism. If someone doesn't want to participate, they don't have to. If someone does, they can! Sometimes it's just plain wonderful to receive a lavish gift that doesn't have to be responsibly given over to someone else. Susan has given so much in her life. Can we just be as generous as we wish on her special day?
Posted by sabrina6850 on May 25, 2009
Marie Ursula, good suggestions regarding the smaller florists receiving some of the business. Britain is having economic problems also and small florists could probably use the business.

Good idea regarding pre-contacting the churches, hospitals etc. also.

IVORYMIST, I think the money would go directly to the florist's account, once we know who that is.

I do agree that over 100,000 on flowers is a frightening thought, but it could easily end up being that much.

Which is why I suggested designating now, where some of that money ought to go, such as a charity, homeless people, animal shelter or whatever.
Posted by ndcoop on May 25, 2009
"Make a Wish" foundation coupled with the flowers? Seems like an appropriate cause. Again, just throwing out ideas... I think if folks were giving to both to a charitable cause and the flowers, you are looking a situation where there might be some who donate more than just for the flowers. I know I would. Again, just suggesting.....

If we do send thousands of roses, Would it be at all possible for Ant and Dec to tell her on the air after she performs - that she has received _____roses from the Susan-Boyle Fan Club which has over 18,000 members across the globe. That way we would get to see her reaction. I do feel strongly that this gesture might be a bit much prior to her performance. I know that she is strong, but speaking as a former singer myself - after would be better - and it will register with her more. Beforehand she is going to be concentrating on her performance.

There is some charity the BGT gives to as part of the cost of phoning in the vote. What is that? Wouldn't that be part of the Rose Vote idea, perhaps? Not that they would have to have any role in the organizing -- just beneficiaries. Maybe the florist could give a certain percentage to them, and BGT would be more accommodating...
Posted by strenght on May 25, 2009
susan You go girl !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Posted by Zan on May 25, 2009
I would gladly donate for flowers, but a charity, I will NOT! Susan has done charity work all her life and a gift from her fans should be for HER and HER alone, period. Susan is most likely NOT "allergic" to flowers since there have been a few pictures/video of her shown with live flowers in her home. I think one nice big bouquet with a plaque of some kind would be nice...and not overwhelming.
Posted by Zan on May 25, 2009
Also, if extra funds are available and the majority of members here do want to donate the extra funds to charity, how about to a cat rescue league or to an animal shelter in honor of Susan's cat Pebbles?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
By the way, although I suggested the BGT charity possibility, I would really prefer that all donations would go to Rose Votes for Susan on her big day.
Posted by sabrina6850 on May 25, 2009
NDCOOP, make-a-wish foundation is a good suggestion, imo.

PKOCH, I doubt BGT would allow such a gesture for one contestant before the competition anyway, do you? It would seem not to be fair to the other contestants. 2 Afterwards would be great and they'd have more time to deal with it. Just my two cents.

Nice idea to have Ant and Dec tell her about her fan club sending the flowers, if they would do it.

NAVYVET, you're welcome, although I'm not sure what for Lol!

Lots of good suggestions here but it's scary how huge this could get overnight, considering how many people across the globe are rooting for her. I would not want to be in charge of it so appreciate those who are willing.

Btw, I love the way the site looks now with the roses ads at the top and bottom, generated by the comments.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
Ummm...BGT has just had to go with the flow regarding the one contestant whose singular popularity has lifted all ships! As Marie Ursula correctly suggested, literally everyone attached to BGT has one little Susan Boyle (and God) to thank for their own wave of publicity!!
Posted by Godscre on May 25, 2009
A plaque is a great gift with flowers and if money is abundant, a computer with a tutor to see her fan site. :)
Posted by sabrina6850 on May 25, 2009
Good point, DelLeslie, but other contestants might complain, and I don't think that would be good for Susan. They might not see it our way.

You're right about the show and the rest of the contestants getting more attention because of Susan. I never watch those shows and never even heard of BGT or any of the judges etc. until I saw Susan's Utube link.

Btw, as far as money going to charity, I think your suggestion about BGT's charity is a good one. I think they might like that also.

Have to run for now, but will be checking tomorrow to see what has been decided before spreading the word.

Susan has some great fans, especially here! :-)

hi I live in australia and have seen susan boyle on the news and i think she is very good keep up the good work I hope she wins
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
@ rrvngPlano

After last night, I think that Susan is very financially secured for the rest of her life...Simon and others will be surrounded her and making sure of that...

the goal is....since most of us can't vote for Susan...each rose symbolizes a vote of confidence in our Susan Boyle. that is how this all started...well actually it started because I think Danny said about giving her flowers from us after her performance...then because I am bored being sick in bed...I started the one rose idea....then....DelLeslie started looking up florists...then it started to snowball from there.....or should I say rose ball from there?? I crack myself up.

Those that want to contribute to a charity....by all means...please do so...

But I think the rose idea is wonderful and beautiful and frivolous and just absolutely glorious!

How about letting people donate for the flowers and for those who wish, an additional amount toward the charity of her choice. The florist would certainly handle this since they are getting the bulk of the business. It could be arranged easily. Donate $1 to ? for roses and any additional goes to charity of her choice. Zan, would that be acceptable to you?
Posted by Zan on May 25, 2009
Yes, ndcoop, your suggestions are just great and perfectly fine with me, grin. I still think after the flowers, any donations going to a cat rescue league or for cats in a shelter, would be a big hit with Susan.
Posted by ndcoop on May 25, 2009
we should both work at the UN.
Posted by Allikat on May 25, 2009
If the Rose thing turns out anything like the petition online vote-gathering thing, doubt we'll have to 'worry' about 'too many roses' if it works out that people are to somehow contribute enough for 'just one rose'. Maybe we'd gather 1,000 of them, maybe a bit more. Even if every single person on this fan site did the 'one rose' thing, there would only be 18,000 roses--a far cry from the 100,000 mentioned earlier.

Here I thought we were going to need to buy entire bouquets individually, and I couldn't afford to do that and get anything decent at all. If there can be only one 'rose delivery', then I think our site owner's suggestion may be the best one. 1,000 roses is not at all that ridiculously extravagant.

I'm hoping this fan site can set up something more permanent for the future, some way of gathering money (as fans can manage it each to his/her abilities) in order to arrange for Susan to receive flowers and even decided-upon appropriate 'gifts' now and then, during appropriate times, likely at performance venues, but also sometimes at her home. We are a large enough group to manage something like that, and keep it both honest and respectable.

I for one would be more than willing to help, in the 'Texas contingency' here. Tyler is the Rose Capital of the World, and if Susan ever comes near enough to Tyler that I can drive an enormous rose arrangement to a concert performance of hers (and get permission to get the roses to her), I'll save my money and buy the thing myself, right here IN Tyler, because that would be truly 'special'! Anyone else also attending the concert could of course chip in if desired; we'd plan to all meet up!

These ideas will take team-work, and might involve several folks from several countries working together so that wherever Susan happens to be located (don't we hope she'll do some kind of 'world tour', eventually?), she can receive some really nice fan-based tributes, whether in flowers, gifts, or even maybe some fan-run 'after-parties' to take place after personal appearances! For example--we know she'll be going to Prague to record for 2-3 days with the Czech National Symphony around the end of June or first of July--wouldn't it be nice to get some flowers to her over there to enjoy? The ideas are endless. (Am basing this entirely on ways the Old Ways fan list or OWLs, managed to accomplish things for Loreena McKennitt back in the day before 'things' got overly complicated for her.)

I can't see 'wasting money needlessly' either, which is why maybe the Roses thing needs to be 'controlled' a bit. I also can't see making charitable contributions in Susan's name as something a fan site should organize, because that could technically be done on an individual basis. If ever Susan names a favourite charity, we can take note of that, but for right now, I feel she herself deserves to receive whatever we can directly give to HER.

Since she seems reluctant to take a look at the Internet or have anything to do with computers, I believe she has NO idea what kind of support she really has, especially outside the UK. I really don't think she knows that we don't even mind whether or not she 'wins' BGT, because for us she is already our shining star. (For her sake, I hope she wins, but let's face it--it may not happen.)

Poor Susan--I don't think she's HAD anyone outside perhaps her own family do much for her during her life, and if WE could get up the steam to start something like this rolling and continue with it, I believe it might just let Susan FINALLY know just how much support she really has in this world! Not just as a BGT competitor, but as folks interested in her ongoing career, who also genuinely care about HER as a person.

I'll be keeping up with this blog as I am able; am interested in reading all comments and still need to back up and read a lot of them!

Susan Boyle is a beautiful lady. Her voice is also very beautiful and it made me cry tears of joy. I hope that Susan will record many, many records. I wish her success and happiness always.

@Allikat Agree with you that this needs to be controlled.

I will try to sort something out tomorrow, and i am keeping all views expressed above into consideration.

Sorry if you have emailed and have not replied, it is getting a little crazy here and must go to bed soon.

Hope i can sort something out tomorrow that everyone is happy with.

I live on the west coast...California, and am hopeful that by the time anything is decided in earnest, that it is not too late for me to contribute.

I agree about the controlled part. Overwhelming her would not be the greatest idea when she is getting ready to sing. I hear that Piers and Amanda want her to sing "I Dreamed a Dream" again this coming week. That would help with any nervousness.

If we wind up having to do something individually, I am sure that many of us need to know where to send anything that might be sent.

another suggestion feel free to have an opinion on it....

Have Paul the admin of this site set up a "corporate" account, e.g. "The Susan Boyle FanSite" account with the selected Florist in London. From there Paul can direct us and contribute $1 or whatever the currency is for your country for A Rose to have the florist put it in a bunch the and deliver it at the place on stage at the Finales after Susan wins (of course).

IF anyone ever placed an order (I have) at a legit Florist online no matter where you can use credit card, debit, etc. it's so easy and legit. I don't like paypal becaus then you have to set up an account like on Ebay and such. too much hassle.

To all on this blog:

Not to worry, as soon as we have the information on how this will be handled, where to send the money, how many roses, etc., it will be posted here on this site/blog immediately. since we have to do it all in a ASAP manner, the info will be to you rather soon, so keep watching!
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The London florist that we have initially contacted accepts Visa and Master Card. They could probably quickly put up a special promo item for roses for Susan Boyle, with our agreed pricing options. If not this florist, then another would surely love the business...
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
I don't think we should get BGT involved in it...I am sure the day of the show there are going to be all kinds of flowers and cards etc showing support to all the acts....its just that Susan's will be a little unusual....I would rather surprise them and see the look on their faces when the deliveries start......thats the whole point...the surprise factor!

Paypal would be a perfect way to pay,---easy and safe. Please count me in!! All I need is a clear directive of what to do and how to do it. I think it's a great idea! If we only knew she was going home afterwards, it would be terrific to have flowers sent there, instead, since she could then keep them and would have time to enjoy them. Chances are she's leaving London directly after BGT finals,---so wouldn't really have much of a chance to see the flowers, much less enjoy them. What does everyone think of an idea like this?? Not quite as showy,---but maybe would make more of an impact on Susan and let her know we love her!

How about we post our states so we can keep in touch with those who are close by to present her with flowers wherever she performs as Allikat mentioned which I think is a great idea. I'm in NJ.
Posted by pottedferne on May 25, 2009
PS..I'll do whatever the group decides regarding the rose (roses). Because I donate to animal rescue anyway, its not a big deal for me to give something in Pebbles name. Everybody should do what they feel comfortable with financially and otherwise.
Posted by Allikat on May 25, 2009
My thought was, why not some roses for the show, like the 1000 suggested number (provided they'd all get there well in advance of the performances, or Susan would likely feel too overwhelmed to concentrate well) and later, some more for her after she gets back home?

It would mean two sets of deliveries rather than one, and in different locations, but--once people start their contributing, could there be a cut-off for the flowers at the show once there were enough for that venue, and have the rest of the money go to a florist up in the West Lothian area who would give us the same kind of deal?

The only problem is, we don't know that Susan is going back there any time soon; she may well be staying in London for tour rehearsals. I didn't even think of that! Hmm--I'm wondering if the other roses might be delivered to her hotel room. Possibility? At least it could utilize the same florist, and the florist stands to make some real money off this.

A link to contribute at either site might be posted; perhaps we could find some way to KNOW when the limit for the studio roses had been reached, then simply use the link in West Lothian for the rest. Would that work?

But the Allisons came from the Scottish Highlands in the 1700s,---so it seemed an appropriate name for me to take.

I think there is a better idea instead of sending flowers.

How about we send a cash contribution to Susan for her to further her career and then have her allocate half of the donation to the charity of her choice or to her little village for all their inconvenience.

Even Five, ten dollars from many would make a great impact on Susan's ability to concentrate on her career and help others in the process.

If many participate some lucky charity will experience quite a windfall and Susan can benefit as well. Just a thought
Posted by baggins on May 25, 2009
I love the first idea of sending roses from all of us all over the world. I will keep checking the site for details.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
This is all about a Rose Vote for Susan on her big day -- less than 5 days from now! Could we focus on that now (many want to express their support specifically for her on that day) and then move on to charity ideas later? Of course, anyone who wants to donate to a charity in her name could do so already. Susan has been a charitable volunteer all her life, and it would be great for her to receive a lavish love gift just for her from all of her fans worldwide -- a way of "voting" by people who otherwise can't!
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
@DelLeslie I think we just got to keep repeating the premise of the One Rose Vote idea over and over again, for those who are walking in during the middle of this blog

We are working on a deal where for about a dollar or two, you get to send Susan a long stem rose to show your vote of confidence and love for her. Where the cost will be nominal for the individual, the show of the flowers and the presentation of them as a whole will be wonderous....

Delivery trucks lined up and down Coronation street all day Sat ..multitudes of deliverymen up and down the stairs delivering roses for Susan Boyle all day long..This will make world wide news...everyone will be surprised....the outpouring of love for our Susan..as DelLeslie has said many times.....Susan has done charity work all her life....let this be her day...lets Spoil Susan this one day...

If some done't like the idea...they donate to a charity...its quite all right!

I never can figure it out - need to know so I can be ready to phone in my order for the roses - as soon as you get it decided, please post it - the florist is going to need a "heads-up" to get that many roses together. Love the idea.

Well ... here is my first post. I have just watched/listened to Susan's 1st television appearance for the ???th time and I still have tears pouring out !!! She is just amazing. That voice ..... it is so powerful and fragile at the same time. It's heart-breaking. I hope she doesn't change the way she "looks", because when she smiles she is one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen. And that cheeky Scottish personality .... she's a hoot !!! Even though she was obviously nervous at both performances, she managed to "nail" both songs (both notoriously difficult to sing). At the start of "Memory" she knew instinctively that she was in a little trouble and fixed it straight away (when she placed her hand on her diaphram and settled herself down). May you have a long and wonderfully fulfilling career, Susan. You have already got millions of fans and an "army" of people from all over the world who have fallen in love with you.

I THINK THOUSANDS OF FLOWERS WOULD CAUSE MORE HARM THEN GOOD. SUSAN ALWAYS WORKED FOR CHARITIES THROUGH HER CHURCH. I HAVE READ THAT THE VILLIAGE WHERE SUSAN LIVES IS VERY DEPRESSED, SO HELPING OUT THE SCHOOLS IN THE VILLIAGE WOULD BE GREAT. HOW ABOUT FORMING A SUSAN BOYLE FONDATION?. I THINK A VERY LARGE, BEAUTIFUL BOUQUET WOULD BE BEST.
Posted by songbirdwatcher on May 25, 2009
I THINK A BEAUTIFUL GOLD LOCKET WOULD BE TERRIFIC. WE COULD HAVE IT INSCRIBED WITH THE WORD DREAM, OR WHATEVER. SUSAN DOESN'T OWN A COMPUTER, I THINK SHE WOULD LOVE ONE.
Posted by dmichael on May 25, 2009
i don't think this would be a good idea the night of finals. she was nervous enough for the semi's and i think this would be a bigger distraction. i do agree with songbirdwatcher a foundation in her name or to donate to one of her church or school in the village where she lives. i think we should ALL wait until AFTER THE finals. and amanda holden did everyone here what she stated to shaun smith ( susan boyle has alot to worry about? ) i was shocked. amanda sucks

I think the roses are a great idea -- I know I would be deeply touched and feel hugely supported were it me! Here we are, thousands of us, sitting in front of our TV's/computers watching someone's dream come true. Isn't it miraculous?
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
songbird: if you wish to give a charity donation to one in Blackburn, then you should do that...

Actually, the history I heard of Susan Boyle in Blackburn, that due to her learning disabilities because of what happened to her at birth...the children and adults laughed at her called her simple susan and shun her...

Well they aren't laughing at her now are they?

We are doing the roses to show that each rose shows a vote for Susan because we can't vote for her.

She doesn't need charity anymore...she needs love....
Posted by Eloise on May 25, 2009
My two cents: Asking any florist (even if it's multiple florists) to handle hundreds or even thousands of individual orders of one rose each is asking too much, in my humble opinion.

Is there were a way for someone to coordinate the effort by ordering a set amount's worth of gorgeous bouquets (say $1,000), then setting up a PayPal account for us all to contribute whatever we could?

Donations over the set amount could be presented to Susan in the form of a check (or is it cheque?) to her, made out to her favorite charity, such as her church, in honor of her late mum.
Posted by Elayne on May 25, 2009
Wow!!! As a performer myself, I have always and still do love a bouquet of fresh roses on opening night! However, my fans are usually a handful of people..faithful family members and close friends. Susan, on the other hand, has millions of fans!!! That's a lot of flowers!!!! How could the studio dressing room accommodate them all and how could Susan even begin to transport them home...and where would she put them all even if she could find a way to get them all home?!!!!!! Even telegrams would be more mail than the studio and Susan could handle. I truly wish there was a way to let her know how much we all love and support her. Buying her CDs and going to her concerts and live plays and maybe movies will certainly be one way!!!! But that is down the road. At any rate I hope her family and close friends give her at least one huge bouquet for the BGT final!!! That is my prayer for her!

Navyvet: I am afraid they are going to create a huge embarassment for Susan, and all of this will come down BEFORE the competition. It will turn her tranquuil rehersal time into a mess. Maybe Piers would help put some sensibility into it and bring it down to a manageable offering. Will you try to get in touch with Piers? I don't have any direct contact with him. I also sent a note to the FanClub leader, but no response. I think it is a monstrous waste of money -- Heavens - you could buy her house for her with what they intend to spend on flowers! . It will involve dealing with the huge mess -- the only good thing is that there aren't that many roses in London and environs to do it even if they wanted to. I sure won't send money in for such a escapade. They have lost their common sense. Let me know if you have any success. Best: BJ -- we can tell them that getting a promise to buy may not work and they will be left with a committment for all of that money -- and who will pay for it? I sure can't. I am retired.
Posted by Abby on May 25, 2009
I like the idea of each one of us sending 1 rose in place of our vote (for those of us who cannot vote). But I will send a bouquet if that is the consesus. Just want her to know I am cheering her on and that I care.
Posted by songbirdwatcher on May 25, 2009
JUST BEING PRACTICAL, HOW ABOUT A LARGE BOUQUET OF ROSES & A CHECK FOR $10.000 DOLLARS?. OF COURSE IT WILL DEPEND ON HOW MANY DONATIONS YOU GET. IF SUSAN DOESN'T WIN, SHE COULD STILL USE THE MONEY. I THINK THOUSANDS OF FLOWERS WOULD BE OVERWHELMING & VERY HARD TO GET DELIVERED TO HOSPITALS ETC.SOMEONE MENTIONED THERE ARE 17,000 FANS IN THIS CLUB. ANYWAY, I GO WITH WHATEVER IS DECIDED.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The whole idea of Rose Votes for Susan is that there are so many people outside of the UK (or even inside) that want to express love and support for her on her big day! A simple mechanism for delivering volumes of roses to the performance venue is what we are envisioning. These are not going to be delivered to her dressing room or backstage, but to the foyer or some other place around the venue -- she can see them for an appropriate amount of time on her way to the task at hand! Perhaps there will be a gorgeous bouquet given to her on-stage after her performance. Dear ones who object and want to give to charity instead...please do that! However, many of us have chosen Susan herself as our favorite charity for the big day, May 30! May we also give according to our hearts?
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
The roses would be delivered primarily in the morning or early afternoon on Saturday, potentially in truck after truck! Susan herself would thoroughly enjoy the support but would not have to deal with them directly herself, and hospitals, charities, churches, etc., would be alerted about their availability after the show. Fans in the auditorium could also have Sueveniers if any were left....

Posted by ca0911 on May 25, 2009
I have not read all the comments on this so I may be being repetitive but might it not be a better idea for those who could to send telegrams supporting and congratulating Susan? These would be something she could keep forever and I think in keeping with the sentiments of so many without being the logistical problem so many flowers might present. Just a suggestion, I know she will be thrilled by any and all shows of support

Gracias Susan!!!!!!
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Where would all the roses go...remember Susan was just sitting on a bench eating a sandwich...it's not like she has a dressing room. The acts go from one to another...will they quickly put roses on the stage just before Susan sings? Would BGT allow it? I noticed they had fog for some acts. The stairs they come down are not actually that wide. Perhaps sending roses to her hotel room and home would be the best.
Posted by jordie on May 25, 2009
My opinion only.....I agree with Songbirdwatcher and Eloise. Masses of roses would simply overwhelm her to the point of collapse. We wouldn't want that to happen, for sure. I think the engraved gold locket and/or a donation to her Village Church or School would be more appropriate. We could all pay our share thru PayPal. Just a thought. This is so exciting!!!!

I THINK THE ROSE IDEA IS VERY SWEET, HOWEVER, I REMEMBER WHEN PRINCESS DIANA DIED, AND EVERYONE BROUGHT FLOWERS, IT POSED A HUGH PROBLEM.WHAT IF SUSAN, (GOD FORBID), DOESN'T WIN?, WILL THE WINNER THINK THE ROSES ARE FOR THEM?. THE LOBBY WILL BE CHUCK FULL OF PEOPLE, WHERE WILL ALL THESE ROSES BE KEPT?. I WOULD RATHER SEE SUSAN RECEIVE A CHECK & FLOWERS, RATHER THEN THOUSANDS OF ROSES, JUST TO BE HAULED AWAY (REMEMBER GAS PRICES)TO HOSPITALS.IT SURE DOESN'T MATTER TO ME, I AM JUST A PRACTICAL PERSON. I THINK A NICE FAT CHECK PLUS A BOUQUET OF FLOWERS, WOULD HELP SUSAN THE MOST, AFTER ALL, SHE DOESN'T HAVE A JOB.

@DelLeslie et al

The visual message of love seems important ~ not only to Susan, but to us and to the world. It's kinda like all those letters to Santa Claus being delivered to the courtroom at the trial of Kris Kringle in the classic version of "Miracle on 34th Street." Timing of actual delivery to Susan would probably depend on studio policies.

For Susan's perpetual enjoyment, I can envision some jet-setting SBFS YouTube whiz filming all the roses as they arrive and settle outside and/or inside the studio. I wonder if she has a DVD player at home, in lieu of a computer.
Posted by IvoryMist on May 25, 2009
Imagine if BGT said to Susan..."They are your roses...what are you going to do with them".Will she have to hire someone to deliver them elsewhere? Susan would probably have a breakdown!

Sometimes the best intentions are .....................you finish that sentence!
Posted by Bobber2 on May 25, 2009
Consider this an idea ? Why not contact the mayor of her town and have them set up an account whereby a dozen roses can be sent to Susan say once a week....instead of 100,000 roses sent to her in one day....then wouldn't she be able to look at them and enjoy them for years to come? Please folks no offence but I would strongly ask you to consider that such a occurance of thousands of flowers when her mind needs focused and relaxed with no distractions could throw her off and actually be hard on her nerves when she has to perform...but flowers once a week might be more of a pleasure for her to enjoy.
Posted by DelLeslie on May 25, 2009
I hope people have time to read the Rose Vote posts from this blog and the one about Susan going to the finals. Most if not all of the concerns raised have been repeatedly addressed already. This is still the Susan Boyle Fan Site, meaning we support Susan Boyle and her dream! Charities certainly have value, but this is Susan's fan site, Susan's big day and Susan's dream, and we are all gathered here to support Susan. By all means, send an extra donation to a charity of your choice, but let us honor Susan on May 30 with a visible show of support! Susan herself won't have to deal with the roses, but she will certainly know of our love and appreciation, through as many individual Rose Votes as people might care to send!
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 25, 2009
oh geez....some of you really don't see the big picture.....

no one is going to make Susan clear away the roses..they aren't all going to be jammed in her dressing room.....

Sometimes the best intentions turns out to be the most glorious spontantenous surprises you will ever receive...if you are even lucky enough to receive one in a lifetime....

Send flowers to her house every week in Blackburn? Do you really think that Susan is ever going back to Blackburn to live? As if she will be sitting there on her posy sipping tea waiting each week for the roses to arrive.

Susan is not going back to Blackburn she is going to be on tour....in recording studios, on her own world tour....she doesn't need a check from us.....in 30 days she will have more money than God...Amazon already has a waiting list for her first CD to come out!

Susan is spontantenous....and that is what she would enjoy.....

Didn't you people listen to what she had to say in the video...that she didn't want to feel like a worthless person? Money does not make a person feel worthwhile...giving her money won't do that....

But give her something Bigger Than Life...something that will make her laugh that day and feel loved.....

that is what the single rose means....love.

getting the big picture yet?

Exactly, Wyldirsh! Remember early on after the worldwide outpouring of love began, when Susan said, "Well, now I won't be alone anymore!" She had given her all to her Mom and previously her Dad, and now she was alone with Pebbles. Add to that a lifetime of being told and shown that she was a worthless person with nothing to offer... Well, of course she has priceless value with or without the singing, and I believe a huge number of us would love to cast our Rose Votes for Susan even before she sings a note on Saturday!

What a nice idea, Marie Ursula! (Especially on behalf of Wyldirsh, who is recovering from pneumonia. She was planning to go to sleep hours ago!) London is 5 hours ahead of us, so it's 6:35 am now...just about the time that the dozens of little flower wholesalers are moving their lovely products out to the sellers. Sort of like Liza Doolittle's work before she became My Fair Lady...

hi fellow susan fans, Just a thought but a serious one. I suffer from alergies and having grown up behind the scenes of some very theatrical productions, I just think this would distract her TREMENDOUSLY!!! the competition is only going to get tougher and she needs to go out there with confidence! afterwards would be much better....... also a donation to her church, or donations to a school in her village maybe better...... btw - over 1 million hits on you tube in 27 hours!!!!!!!!!! wow!!!!!!!!!!!! win susan win!!!!!!! f o c u s!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for this fantastic website. I'm a Frenchie. I'm in tears. Yes, A ROSE VOTE FOR SUSAN. We all must simply "pray" for our Susan that she wins the finals. Is there any possibility for you to come in contact with her as Amanda wishes that Susan sings I DREAMED A DREAM for the finals? On waking up I listen to her songs and just before going to bed too.
Posted by raresilk on May 26, 2009
i would like to send her a million roses. it is not just some kind of jump on the bandwagon thing. susan brought me back from the dead. i was so apathetic and defeated. i felt that all of my dreams had died. i wasn't motivated to try anymore.

but when i saw her and knew her story, i was inspired. and this time, when she sang again, i really knew that it was real. a person who is seemingly lost from their dreams, defeated in them, like me, can look at susan boyle and say "perhaps i should keep trying. perhaps i should try harder and better."

an inspiration, she is. we need more people like this.

I think roses are a great idea; especially for those of us on the other side of the world. Im sure theres a florist whod be delighted to deliver them after her perfomance on the night.
Posted by BB on May 26, 2009
Here is a thought....how about we try to get a rose named after her THE SUSAN BOYLE ROSE, which would last forever!! I think she would be really chuffed if we managed to do that. I cried when she said she wanted to prove to people she was not worthless!!! Worthless? worthless? you are worth the world dearest Susan, I don't think you have any idea how you have affected the world, you have brought joy and love to millions, I say that is WORTH more than you can imagine!!! WE LOVE YOU xx

I need to catch up on all these comments, its moving so quick! Having just read a few I think most people could afford one rose, (lets keep it simple) but a bouquet is something quite different and would be costly to an individual. As Susan moves around the world to different concerts, we could follow her through this site by sending a rose. A rose is a vote, a kiss, it means love and support. Any charitable giving which people specifically want to engage in, could be done through animal sanctuaries, cat shelters or even the RSPCA which is not government funded but is totally reliant upon charitable giving. The RSPCA would have a bank account already set up so fans could donate through online banking if that is their wish. That keeps it simple too. But a rose for Susan is an excellent idea. The overload of roses could then be distributed to the hospitals, hospices and aged persons residences. Everyone will benefit from a rose and know that Susan is shining through as a beacon of hope.

@BB - Oh I just read your comments and you made me cry!! If only she knew how many tears were being shed around the world. She is such a beautiful person inside and out and I love her to bits.

I'm too poor to send roses from Berlin, even through a British connection. But how about a possibility of sending virtual roses through a link to Flickr??? Or something like that? This would lead to an eventual slideshow for Susan at some point. To avoid overload it could be limited to this week only. Just idea for those of us who are poor.

Hi every one, i like the idea to show Susan our love and support with a Rose, i agree with you on whatever final idea you have, i can make my donation with paypal or master card, i would like to put this idea to consider, maybe website manager can open a dedicated page to upload a photo of each one of us with a Rose for Susan, this roses will last longer hehehe an of course contribute for the amount of flowers or Roses (pls all colours) to be send them to her that day of the final show... thats my idea :) thanks grettings from Mexico!

Ok dear friends, I had to catch up 131 posts since I left the blog yesterday and let’s start being sensible. Although it is true that we are 170.000 members registered, let’s be realistic not all will send roses whatever the reason, not even 17.000 so we cannot assure a florist the number of roses which will be needed. I personally think and I’m being very large that 1.000 will be the maximum. The number of roses should be split in three, one Saturday morning before the show to give her confidence, one after the show, and the third the day the tour starts. If there are roses left, someone is going to be in touch with the florist, so they can be delivered either at each stop of the tour or in bulk at the end. Susan won’t be back at her hometown in months so that’s out. I don’t think that Susan will like trucks of roses arriving at the ITV studios, she will feel totally overwhelmed by the display, let’s not forget that she is a very humble person, we have to follow her example. Just imagine 500 roses coming in the morning and another in the evening! Whatever we do we have to remain within limits! For the fun of it we could send a few tubes oh smarties!!! LOL It goes without saying that I will abide by the majority view.

Will the BGT finals on TV be available in Canada? Would love to see Susan singin the finals. The thought of all her fans sending a Rose each is a practical idea considering there are so many rootingfor her.
Posted by porcupine on May 26, 2009
That a fantastic idea! Please count me in for contributing towards the cost of the roses. Just a suggestion for everyone's consideration... (1) We can tag our name and country of residence on the roses, and (2) Since not everyone can afford to contribute towards the cost for the roses e.g. Don Juan from Puerto Rico has so sweetly done a video and sent Susan a kiss instead, maybe for us who can afford to, we could share this kind gesture with those who can't afford to by tagging their name and country of residence on the roses too. Looking forward to your feedback. God bless! - porcupine, Singapore

I'm with Kalua. The smarties idea I like a lot! But please let someone take charge now and give us directions. With a group this large consensus will never be reached. Those who want to send roses will do that, others won't. If you want to give to charity please do so, but wait with setting up funds in Susan's name till she has good management and work with them. I think no one on this site knows for sure what Susan's reaction will be, but I never met a woman who wasn't delighted and encouraged by a big bunch of roses (I once flew home with 100 red roses wrapped in newspapers given to me as parting gift by a holiday love). And for sure she knows she is loved all over the world by now, what with all the attention and being on foreign tv chanels. Not only the US, I know for sure she gave 2 interviews to dutch tv. By sending her roses from all over the world she will know our love affair isn't over yet....

Hi everyone!

ROSES ROSES ROSES

I love Paul's advice (our site-admin) that we do it SIMPLE -- as a fan-group. Kindly refer to his article that opened up this blog -- at least simple at this stage, mainly because of the limited time we have before the BGT Final.

I think he might be talking soon today to the Interflora in-charge.

However, if the other method of flower-sending goes through (Wyldrish's et al)-- the more spectacular one -- there's probably a possibility to have both the simple and spectacular-type methods! :-)

Till we hear from Paul .... I'll have to wait. :-)

And again, I love all the expressions of love&caring for Susan shown on this site! What a loving group we are!

Warmest wishes from Western Australia

Elmie

P.S. APOLOGIES

In my message on the above box, I referred you to the opening article to this blog by Paul (our site-admin).

But, what I should've said was his message on a comment-box above, which I now quote as follows:

/QUOTED FROM PAUL, SITE-ADMIN / :--

Posted by SusanBoyleFan on May 25, 2009 Everybody's ideas are great, thanks!

/END OR QUOTE /

=========

May we come up with a rose-idea that will benefit SUSAN and everyone! I know we will. Again, I'll wait for Paul's advice to us.

Thanks, everyone. It's now past 6 pm here down-under Western Australia, time to get dinner ready. I wish you all a great day! Take care.

Lots love Elmie

DannyG back after going to bed last night and trying to catch up. I will go with whatever Paul can arrange. I'm not hung up on any certain number of roses, as long as there are enough to be showy. And she knows how many of us there are. This is to convey to Susan the best we can how valued and cherished she is, not only for her voice, but for herself, and I also want family, friends, other villagers to see that. Allikat, Delleslie, and others you echo my own thoughts and feelings. I'm for the idea of afterward setting up an account that we can contribute to from time to time and that can be used to do things for Susan. This isn't a temporary thing for me. I hope many of us will always here as a permanent support group for Susan, to follow her life and career and do supportive things. I can do Visa or Paypal. Let those of us who can and want to do this. Even if you don't contribute, it will be from her No. 1 fan group, 18,000 and counting. PKoch, for those who haven't read my profile, I am a woman also. Named after my father, a Southern custom. McElrath is a sect of the MacDonald clan.

I am an ordinary person, retired state supervisor, but I know that I have had so much love and support and so many experiences in my life that all of us take for granted, going to proms, being sent flowers many times, etc. that Susan has not had. Stopping for now on this comment. Have to catch up on videos, and other commentary. It's a good thing some of you have to work today. I can hardly keep up. Love y'all

For those concerned about "how to pay for a large order of roses" it would seem that the arrangement with the florist would involve a way to pay them directly online in a specially predesignated way, each individual as much and as often as we want, and the florist would know from the funds amassed how many Rose Votes are being ordered. There would have to be a cut-off time, determined by the florist, and they could assume a certain amount of requests after that, so they can notify suppliers of the needs! This is sort of like Valentine's Day and Mother's Day combined! And remember, dear ones, these are not going to be crammed into Susan's dressing room or backstage! They will arrive late morning or early afternoon, hopefully in great waves of Rose Votes, and Susan will be able to see them and know of our love and support but she won't have to deal with the flowers directly! It would, of course, be great if the florist could include a lovely long list of Rose Voters with their names, cities and countries... ♥♥♥

WOW! On Viral Video Chart, Susan (Memory) and Susan (Dream) are number one and number two in overall views in the past 24 hours, both "spreading across the interweb like Wildfire." Also, on YouTube, their count of today's 23 most-viewed videos in the world includes 10 videos of Susan (Memory), 2 more of the final judging/winner announcement, and 8 more of other competitors that night, who of course are only being viewed because of their connection to Susan. In other words, 20 of the top 23 videos on YouTube today are either directly Susan or closely related!

Good morning, all! I agree w/ DANNYG above, in that I don't care too much about the specifices, as long as it's in sufficient #'s to be 'showy'.

I do think songbirdwatcher makes a good point, above (what if - God forbid - she doesn't win . . . )
Posted by willytoes on May 26, 2009
I love the roses idea, but what about limiting it to 2 dozen. AND I think we could also do something great and lasting. How about we use the rest of the money (I'm sure we'll have enough) to set up a little scholarship to be given to a musically talented student from West Lothian? And we include that in the note that comes with the flowers? (I know there are LOTS of ideas here - don't want to add to the confusion, but I felt I had to share this one.)
Posted by Lovin'Susan on May 26, 2009
I STRONGLY feel that Susan need to hold the microphone when she sings! See how she moves and turns and sings to the audience in her audition? Standing in front on the stationary mic in the semi-final was someone's bad idea. At one point she turned her head slightly and the mic lost her voice. She needs to be able to move--it will help her sing better, and holding the mic will be familiar and comforting for her. Also, having that freedom to move will allow her to communicate the song better to the audience. How I wish I could communicate this to her! I am keeping my fingers crossed that this gets figured out by the finals. SUSAN! Hold that microphone in your hand!!

There seem to be 2 high schools in the West Lothian area - Inveralmond Community High School and James Young High School. There are also a number of elementary schools (sorry U.S. term, not sure if it's appropriate for the U.K.) If this is an idea that people like, I'd be willing to make phone calls and so on to make arrangements.

I'm with DANNYG, I'm a 66 year old woman, done a lot of different things, have 2 grown kids, had a true love in my life, and then got totally taken by Obama. And now Susan Boyle comes along and, I have been totally taken by her. Never belonged to a fan club before, etc.

SuBo is a delightfully warm and real person plus having an extraordinary singing ability. The excitement of seeing a SUPER NOVA of the Entertainment World being born, being able to follow each and every , almost daily, step thru the electronic world and this fan site, is a journey I look forward to for quite some time.

Of course there is also the Whitburn Academy which Susan attended in earlier years prior to the death of her mother.
Posted by kewpie_kiss on May 26, 2009
I think that is were were all allowed to purchase maybe two flowers each and a general card with all of our names and our locations it might be a better idea. I would love for her to receive flowers from all of us, but I worry that too many might overwhelm.
Posted by LucyB on May 26, 2009
Yes, yes, yes Susan MUST be allowed to move about when she sings---either a hand held mike or head-mike really is the answer. Her hand and arm gestures are SO graceful--i.e. see the audition tape---that she seems stiff and slightly frozen if she has to sing into a stationary mike. It certainly would have helped her calm herself in the Semis if she could have moved around a bit rather than being glued to one spot in front of the mike.

Something just came in my mind and I want to put it down before I have a senior moment and forget. I know I have seen a couple of people mention being the panhandle of Florida, and of course I live in Tallahassee. Now, we know, when Susan does do a tour in the US, whenever it is, she will not be coming to Tallahassee or any place in the panhandle. But, if she comes somewhat near, Atlanta, Orlando, Tampa even, let those of us living in this area of Florida make a pact to try our best to go see her and sit together, maybe even make the trip together. Anyone interested.

Rose Votes show that we love and support Susan even before she sings -- unconditional love! Let's not set limits in advance, except perhaps in increments of 1000 that can be reached and added to according to the expressions of people's hearts! Susan's whole life has been one of people (except for her Mom) setting low evaluations and low limits for her, and that has made her feel that all her life she has had to prove that she is not worthless. Let's dream big, along with Susan, and show her our love and support with oceans of Rose Votes!

One more thought before I leave for a while. Sometimes you need something that is not practical. There is a quotation, that I cannot remember the source, and may not quote exactly, but it goes: if thou shouldst be of all thy worldly goods bereft, and have beside thee but two loaves of bread, sell one and buy lillies to feed the soul". Susan hasn't had enough lillies in her life. That is what I see us doing with the roses.

Both performances are not the same categorie AT ALL. It will be very unfair that only one goes to win, asthey are so different, but both so good. Both should win. Check out the latest from the Telegraph. Lily Allen has the cheek to call Susan "overrated" - I ask you, what a nerve! Shades of 'kettle' and black', I am thinking. She is, of course, entitled to her opinion, for what it really is worth! (which, IMHO, is not worth a jot). When she has gained as much respect as Susan has, then, maybe, I shall listen to what she has to say! Until then........ What do you think?
Posted by Lidia Clara from BA on May 26, 2009
Susan is an angel sent from Heaven to Earth to bring joy to our souls and our senses. She deserves winning the contest. From Buenos Aires, Argentina, I send a big big hug and my best wishes to her and to Pebbles (I adore both her voice and cats). Susan I love you!!!

@willyfr

well that is why I came up with the idea of one single rose from each fan. I don't want anyone to feel financially burden especially in these hard economic times that is all over the world....

So I figure if a person can afford internet service, they might be able to afford a dollar or two for one single rose.....then....all the individual roses....all become a spectacular glorious GIANT bouquets of roses making all of us as individuals a whole in our love and support to our Susan Boyle.

Posted by sailette on May 26, 2009
Because of the "bit of a cold" she was experiencing, I would recommend that the flowers be presented AFTER she sings... just in case she would have a reaction to the flowers and all that perfume...... IT WOULD BE HORRIBLE if we hindered her singing .... we don't know whether she might have AN ALLERGIC REACTION. Keep on making "IT" happen..... but AFTER SHE SINGS......

@Wyldirsh - If you were dialing a London number, omit the first zero, but prefix with the international code. So for example if the London number was 020 123456 you would dial 44 20123456 (I think!!)
Posted by Wyldirsh on May 26, 2009
checking with the international services from the US they are outrageous in pricing because its international....we are going to have to do this directly with London florists for a good price....heck...I can go up to my street corner in Phila and get a dozen of red roses, beautiful ones for $9.99 a dozen....

Paul is contacting the London florists directly so I guess I have to be patient and wait for him....now if I can just find Patience .....

yes it has to be done from London directly and via Paul, the webmaster. I think we can afford 1 or 2 euros (euros for me IoI). I would be great. They might even feature it on the show that night !

Quote from Piers Morgan blog re lilly allens comment in the Telegraph- Susan’s under huge pressure now, and my heart really does go out to her.

It’s not easy going from anonymity to world superstardom so fast, and I don’t think she really knows what the hell is going on with her life.

But if she comes back in the final with I Dreamed A Dream and nails it, then she is still the one to beat.

Lily Allen called her ‘over-rated’ today.

Now, I like young Lily, she’s an amusing cove.

But methinks some of these pop stars are getting just the teeniest, weenist bit jealous of Susan’s global domination.

And they’ll be even more irritated when she sells ten million albums in America, which trust me, she will - whatever happens in the final. jijiji! Well done!!!

Hey guys,

The idea is great. Just make sure she's not allergic to flowers !!!

Flowers are a must, for sure. But I think we should keep in mind that if this lovely lady craves anything, it is recognition and most of all, love. I am afraid for her. She is a Celt, no doubt about that, but she looks to me like a lost angel in an ocean full of sharks (ex: those dirty bastards who offered her to loose her virginity etc). The world she is now entering has nothing of a paradise and I'm afraid in a couple of years, she may just be left on a roadside after having been exploited in every way possible. She seems quite unsuspecting and because she has been alone so much, she is a perfect victim for the many manipulators that are found in the show-business. She needs protection. Now, I don't now how protecting her can be achieved, nor how we can do it, I'm merely sharing my thoughts here, and my worries. I would just hate to learn one day that such an innocent woman had been hurt.

She is a beautiful woman and she is not a museum piece. She is a complete human being, so please, don't ask her not to change anything. If a lot of money came our way, most of us would change quite a few things to our lifestyle and appearance. We would have the right to do it and I wish she be given the same rights.

Thanks and my apologies for my broken English.

Marie, at various places, I and lot of others have expressed our concerns for Susan, which you share. I know we all have a strong need to protect her which we have no way to do. Frustrating. All I can do is hope she has someone or someones, whose only interest is her welfare. Maybe some of her family are that way, but we don't know. Relatives aren't always. In some ways she is naive and innocent, but from the kind of experiences she has had throughout her life she certainly knows how cruel people can be. I think being taken advantage of emotionally would be worse than financially. You are certainly right that she is entering a world that has a lot of users. All we can do is pray to whatever entity we recognize that she will be taken care of.

Just saw Shaheen sing on the next semi final and all the judges saying he is a real contender to win. Thought.. what if all this wonderful support for Susan Boyle is actually going to harm her chances of winning. Is anything allowed to be bigger than BGT?? Could it be that all this worldwide support could count against her on Satuday night? Like I said just a thought, but this is a business at the end of the day.. if she walks it they may say no one else in the final stood a chance of winning so why bother participating? Not trying to pour water on the fire but how would she feel if the papers and the media turned against her, she is very vunerable right now and I pray she is strong enough if the unthinkable happens. All of you have kind hearts in the rightplace, but I work in music media and she kis a fickle and unforgiving mistress at times.
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 26, 2009
martyn - What did he sing? What did you think? What other 'contenders' on tonight? Do they announce the winners in the next half hour?
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 26, 2009
I sure do ask a lot of questions - - -!
Posted by Lovin' Every Minute! on May 26, 2009
DANNYG - I sometimes think that a lot of her appeal is that she's like a big kid, which can be REALLY good, in its way. But she does need some strong and knowledgable people to lean on, thru Saturday & beyond.

Lilly Allen saying Susan is overrated. Well Lilly being jealous will get you know where and you really need to get a life. Ummm... Let's see what you say when Susan CD comes out and people buy it from all age ranges. You are jealous because you will never acheive the sucess Susan is having and will have for a very long time to come. I feel sorry you, Lilly.
Posted by greygrannie on May 26, 2009
It's human nature to make negative remarks when one feels insecure or jealous. Just let's hope that Susan doesn't take any notice of those unkind remarks being printed. As long as all of us continue to support her, it will surely boost her confidence. About the flowers, why don't we give her a gold locket or some such item that she can wear and know it's from all her fans in the club. If you want to make a donation to a charity in her name, that could be done afterwards. I know that flowers are lovely but they don't last as a piece of jewellery would.
Posted by carpediem on May 26, 2009
Nice idea. I think I would send the flowers to her house at home if it is too difficult to the show, I mean after the show. How would she bring that mutch flowers home..... Charity would be fine too. Susan know who. Go for it Susan from Denmark fan.
Posted by Greenockguy on May 26, 2009
Was watching Extra on NBC and Simon/Amanda/Piers all had their say on Susan....maybe people won't call in for her because they think she has it(piers)...the competition isn't over yet and its up for grabs(adlib here)thats simon and Amanda said..it would be interesting to see what happens if she doesn't win...My stomach is in knots right now and don't think I can handle Sat. Either way I'm in line to buy her first CD and see her when she comes to NYC or close by..

Thanks Dannyg for understanding my worries. I do feel an irrepressible urge to protect this woman. The fact is that I am one year older than she is and I have a personal story of being abused and having been in a shelter for battered women several times. Thanks to psychological assistance from a professional, I was able to gain enough self-confidence to get out of that situation and I am now happy with my 8 year old daughter. When I look at Susan, I see a woman as vulnerable, naive and lonely as I was when I met the shark I married. The difference I see is that the show-business counts many more than one shark. Taht may be the reason for this protection obsession.

Somehow, even though I like the roses idea, I also wonder if the money would not be better used to pay her a good professional helper for self-esteem, someone who would help her face what's ahead of her with strength and self-confidence. We should also remember that this lady is unemployed and she may need some help when all this adventure is over, although I do hope that this will be a lifetime beautiful adventure for her.

I feel wary of Martyn's worries. Martyn being in the music business, he/she (English is not my first language, sorry, and sometimes, I don't know if a name is male or female) know what he/she talks about.

I want to add something. Being a female singer has become some sort of whorish business filled with a host of air heads with dream bodies. It seems that no woman can succeed in the singing business if she is not made like B. Spears or C. Aquilera etc. These kids make a lot of money and get a worldwide recognition even though their voices are way below Susan's, just because they unaturally starve their bodies, and fry their brains with all sorts of illegal stuff I don't care to enumerate.

It seems to me that things are not at the right place. A singer is meant to be listened to, not looked at and lusted after.

Susan's voice is incredible. Why should she show a hungered body and remade face in order to be listened to? What the hell is the connection between the ability to sing and an appealing plastique? Why did everyone laughed in the first place before Susan's first notes? Why was it systematically assumed that because she looks like any normal plain woman, she would sing like a potatoe?

How presomptuous from all these people, judges included! What right did they have to laugh at her when after all, they owe the success of their program mostly to plain people like Susan? Don't they realize the world counts more plain people than Madonnas ? What a disrespect for the regular people who after all, are the ones who feed them!

Susan amazes me with her courage. She may lack the nice looking allure of Britney etc. but Susan is surely much more interesting and has a lot more to offer, including heart and courage, than that stupid superficial air head - ass needed to be kicked - Britney.

Sorry for the Britney lovers, but frankly, I don't think Britney, Madonna and all those follow my ass womens stand any comparison to Susan.

So, do we have a plan yet? Are we headed for a nice locket or something & then send roses/flowers to her home a little at a time to spread it out or in a big whoosh of roses all at once?? We need to be able to start getting the arrangements set up. DelLeslie? I searched for a blog on Roses for Susan but nothing came up. Is there something set up &, if so, what is the url/web address?

Everytime I watch Susan I can't help but pray for her protection. Her video of her sitting by herself & then interviewing saying she really does have something to give. That is so bittersweet that it brings tears & knots for her. I've been there. Tired of being rejected & wanting to make your life count for something. I wish I could just give her a gentle hug & sit & have tea w/ her. Let her relax & not have cameras poking their lenses at her for a quiet day to let her re-group & catch her breath & strength. My roots are Scottish - back to the 600s. I feel the place where she sits & looks over the valley. I would love to go on a walk w/ her & talk about anything or nothing but not all the pressure & BGT. There is something about Susan that cries out to our hearts to protect her somehow. Prayers & God's peace & strength to you, dear Susan.

May the road rise up to meet you. May the wind be always at your back. May the sun shine warm upon your face; the rains fall soft upon your fields and until we meet again, may God hold you in the palm of His hand.

Hi, I have read some of the comments on here, but not all so apologies if I am missing anything. I agree a nice bunch of roses would be a great gesture from Susan's fans, but I know she wouldn't want a lot of money spent on her - so how about a bunch of say 50 roses and the rest of the money is donated to the "Entertainmen Artiste Benevolent Fund" http://www.eabf.org.uk/royal-variety-performance/ which is the charity that is supported by the Royal Variety Performance. That would also be a good publicity move too - show that Susan's fans really care and I'm sure if we told the BGT production team it is the kind of thing they might mention on the programme.

There are already a lot of members on here and if everyone donated just £1 each - that would be a beautiful bouquet plus several thousand pounds for a very worthy charity which looks after the entertainers who have entertained us so much in the past. Probably easiest to do through PayPal??

I work in the (classical) music business and PR so happy to offer any help if required.

SUSAN BOYLE FANS:

So, where are we on creating a PayPal account for Susan with the money going to the charity or charities of Susan choice?

I think people, especially those of us in the USA who cannot vote for Susan, could contribute as little as $1.00 or whatever the cost of a phone call would be to vote for Susan. And, of course the donations could be as high as people would like.

It would be a way of saying to the world that we wish we could vote for Susan this Saturday nite & here is our support -- dollars (and/ or Euros) to her favorite charity.

Please let's focus & reach a decision on this so we can have an account set up before Saturday nite.

I welcome comments. I have posted this comment elsewhere on the website but I just realized that this is the place to have this discussion & decision made --correct?

Susan Boyle Fans:

Let's make a list of all who want the PayPal for charity idea to go forth and then maybe we can work together to set something up --- I fear we are running out of time to get some publicity on this.

So: who is on board,please:

Touched - Setting up a fund that goes directly to Susan is the way to go. Let her do what she pleases with the money. She has a large family (10) and has never had anything so to speak to pass around. ( I know I am from a family of 11 kids) Let her have the pleasure of using the money as she wishes. COME ON PEOPLE, a few flowers are ok, and charities get along ok - give Susan the opportunity NOW to use the money the way she wants to. Let's set up that fund today to go directly to Susan. Any one with me?
Posted by Graysea on May 29, 2009
Touched I will go along with the PayPal only if the money goes directly to Susan Boyle

I say let Susan decide where she wants the money to go:

to her own family

to her church

to her club

to her cat.

Send her the money, I am sure she will know what to do with it.
Posted by Graysea on May 29, 2009
Touched I am from Boston, are you.

Someone could find out her local bank and set up and account and then we could send our money directly to her.

Anyone here know anything about banks in her area?

Any of Susan's family on this site?

Any one have any ideas?
Posted by Been Touched by an Angel on May 29, 2009
Graysea,

I agree ... my original post a couple of days ago said the same thing ... have the money go directly to her to do whatever she wished with it.

but, other posts thought the money should go to charity and at this point, I just wanted TO DO SOMETHING QUICKLY because time was of the essence so, I felt it was better to compromise and move on to a plan.

I'm concerned we're out of time at this point. But, Graysea I do like your idea of setting up an account at her local bank. I hadn't thought about that!
