Susan Boyle singing aged just 25
Posted by SBFII Admin on April 23, 2009

A forgotten video has been unearthed by the Daily Mirror which shows 'Britain's Got Talent' star Susan Boyle singing aged just 25.

susan-boyle-aged-25.jpg

The video below was at her parents Patrick and Bridget's golden wedding party 23 years ago.

The room falls silent when Susan sings the Jesus Christ Superstar hit 'I Don't Know How To Love Him' in her home town of Blackburn, West Lothian.

Big brother Gerry said: "It was a very emotional night. It goes quiet when Susan sings, it always does. She always has that effect."

Yes! Please.....can't wait!!!!

Even then her voice was beautiful. It's too bad she had to wait all this time to be noticed, but then God has a plan for everyone and when the world needed her, we finally got her.

FANTASTIC!! Her voice is truly clear and beautiful!! Cute pictures of her as a child too!

All this..she hasn't won yet!!!..anyone with smarts...knows...if someone financed to have a CD made with her singing..RIGHT NOW1...they would cash in ...BIG TIME...if only someone had encouraged her when she was this age....ALL THESE PEOPLE...who knew her and knew she had this heavenly voice.....

Susan Boyle! why weren't you discovered all those years ago. I guess God had a purpose to keep you aside, waited perhaps to see what else is there to offer in the music business. We have rocked and we have rolled, screamed to loud music, rapped to music that I have trouble understanding the lyric's. And all of a sudden God said...STOP!!! I've had enough...Lets find someone, that we can all...listen to and bring back stability, honesty, and caring. And BINGO...Susan Boyle was discovered. This was Gods plan, to bring you out of the darkness, show the world who you really are. Thank you Susan Boyle, stay the way you are, don't ever change, just keep on singing and keep the world smiling.

A treasure. A newly found treasure. T'is who you are Susan. Wow.
Posted by Kiltkapper on April 23, 2009
I see nothing wrong with her looks...she isn't homely..as all these articles keep printing...I remember a girl..when I was in school...who was slow in her studies....and the bullies would tease her....they say she was slow...and i imagine because of that..the bullies (they are everywhere) wouldn't leave her alone..until she went into her own save shell...but if she was slow...it sure didn't keep her from remembering the words to all the songs she has sung...as to her looks though..she looks pretty to me....maybe more people around her should have told her so....

OMG, what an adorable little girl she was and she looks the same, just as cute as can be. And what a voice. I'm just glad we found her now and I cannot wait for her CD or her concerts. You're right, Texun, what a treasure she is.

Susan Boyle, all I can say is BRAVO! You have truely an amazing voice and a beautiful personality to go with it. When you sing it touches hearts. I don't have to wish you the best, because you are the BEST.

And it truely an honor and a privilege to hear you sing.

The best part, is that it's only just began. You leave the world waiting for more. I can't wait.

Wishing you, Love,Luck & Success!

To me, Susan boyle reminds me of one of America's best and dearly loved singers, Kate Smith. I believe that Susan must be a national treasure to the UK. I hope she attains all of the fame and notoriety she so very much deserves.

Love the hair. You should cut it like that again. Nice and short!

She has an amazing ability to sing a capella - what beautiful sound. And she was a very attractive young woman, from the looks of the video. Well, at least in the second half of her life she may get the recognition that she so deserves. What a talent.
Posted by SunnyinDelaware on April 23, 2009
Wow, wish there was an Itube back then. Now that I heard that..... My feelings are that she wasn't discovered then because the world needed her now, when all was cloudy until Susan spread her sunshine!!!

lol... childhood pictures are priceless!! soooo cute.

amazing that susan has been actively singing in her community all this time and yet her voice remained a secret. i have to laugh at myself because i'm still as awe struck as i was the first time i heard her voice... brings back youthful 'groupie' feelings LOL...

How charming she is! And yes! It went quiet throughout my room. She made me cry again.
Posted by sailette on April 23, 2009
We all talk of how she brings us to tears..... my mantra is that "It is better to cry than to sublimate".... and Susan evokes those tears of exquisite joy in us. and it feels so good.

No matter what Susan sings - it's absolutely beautiful! She has the voice of an angel.
Posted by American Liz on April 23, 2009
Serendipity--one of my favorite words that describes Susan's overnight global fame. The extent of the phenomena could only be explained by the electronic connectedness of our world today. That doesn't detract from her ability to bring each one of us to tears with her beautiful performance. She had a lovely voice 23 yrs ago, but the maturity and depth of her singing has aged it like fine wine. No young thing could have delivered "I Dreamed a Dream" the way this woman did.

We are just so fortunate to be able to bring her into our personal space to appreciate and celebrate. When the hoopla all dies down, I still believe she will have realized her own dream and that is good enough for me.

She's adorable as a child. I wish it was the end of May already. She has said, she's already picked the song she'll be singing in the semi finals. I'm on the east coast of the US. By evening my time, EDT. Britain's Got Talent will have released the video of her. I'm so excited for her. The security there will be very tight I hear and I believe it. I heard a top entertainment producer who said that if she released a CD now, It would open up worldwide at #1 and I believe it. We all love you Sue

What a refreshing talent and presentation. A true ARTIST without artifice. Leave her alone on the personal levels and PLEASE just let her sing! Her personal presentation in my humble opinion is inspiring to millions of people that live ordinary lives just like she has. SUSAN, You GO Girl! Just let me know when your first CD comes out! Huge Admiring USA Fan!

Just pray it has only just begun for her! LUV U SUSAN!

It's her angelic voice, heart full of love and humble soul that makes her a perfect messenger to bring us love and hope - spreading it among believers all over the world!

I think Susan was not ready to take her place among the stars...when I look at her face and see that certain look that says "I know something you don't know" and that little grin...NO...Susan needed to claim her place in her own time...just think about it!!! if Susan had really wanted to be noticed, I am sure nothing on this earth could have stopped her...she only had to open her mouth and allow that magnificent voice be heard!!! with the same conviction she showed on "Britian has Talent"...NO our Susan was busy caring for her dear mother...and for anyone that has ever cared for a parent? they would know how totally consuming this can be... But hey!!! Susan's finally arrived...so let's all sit back and enjoy her God given talent...!!!Go Susan!!!

Such a lovely voice! I'm so glad this old video has been brought to light. Susan, you could sing THEN and you can sing NOW. If things were such that you needed to wait until NOW to be discovered, well, it's happened at last! And it's a different world now than it was back in 1986. Finally, the world knows what you are capable of, and I doubt your talent could remain 'hidden' any longer even if you wanted it to--which of course you don't. The time finally presented itself for you to rock this old world--and you certainly have done that! I really hope you'll consider recording 'I Don't Know How to Love Him'.

I am just waiting for someone to sign her to a recording contract. I live in Louisville, ky and I am hearing nothing but priase from those whom have heard her. good luck, susan.

Great to see the footage of Susan many years ago..singing at her parents golden wedding anniversary. I agree with 'ozzylady's comment regarding how busy Susan must have been looking after her dear mom - but now it's Susan's time and she is bringing joy to many. It would just have been nice if it had happened in time for her mam to see. She would have been so very, very proud. Her voice has grown richer and more powerful over the years it seems.

we fell in love with susan, the world needed her, its as if she made us all step back and look at our own lives, to search for our own beauty within, this woman is amazing and i hope all her dreams come true.she has a touch that truly does touch ones heart, her golden soul is what we saw with an angelic voice, what an honor it would be to be in her presence, how much could we learn from this lovely lady.truly inspiring.

I just heard your singing video at her parent's anniversary. Like I said before, it's 35 years all caught up. She's passionate about singing. The earth stood still when I heard her sing 'I dreamed a dream' and I could still hear it angelically in my ears. I'm going to listen to her song again right now! God bless everyone!! Texas

What a voice,I look forward to hearing her sing more songs. She sings so effortlessly ,ita a pleasure to listen to her sing.
Posted by phoxee on April 24, 2009
That song is very long and difficult and to sing it a capella and stay right on pitch is quite a feat, especially in that hubbub. I hope her audience really appreciated what they were hearing. Amazing!

My Dear Susan, I have sent a few messages to you on a site at Susan Boyle Youtube. I just wanted to say that when I first saw your performance on Britain Has Talent I view it as a picture perfect moment. You couldn't have picked a better song. Enjoy moving forward and take as many baby steps as needed. Also surround yourself with people that love you. Put on a little tough skin so as to protect yourself of negative comments. Don't take none of it to personal. Say a little and listen intently when needed. It will serve as a protection to u as you move forward. Good luck on your next performance. Much love and care. Kindred spirit. Regards and Bravo, Carol from Las Vegas

Susan, keep your family and trusted friends very close, as they are people who would exploit you. Don't change a single hair on your head, or comprimise yourself, as you are a treasure just as you are! Life has over looked you to this point, it has been our loss. Perfection has many faces. You have given many of us hope that life has NOT killed the dreams we have dreamed. Good luck and God bless, as the old saying goes, "better late than NEVER!" Lark

Wow,what a great performance Susan gave at her parents Golden wedding, such a hard song to sing, let alone in a pub, and on your parents special occasion! Awesome just Awesome!!

This was interesting to watch. Her voice was lovely back then, BUT - it is so much stronger now, with the passage of time. I think her popularity if a mixture of her immense singing talent, along with the current econimic state of the world. Speaking for myself, I feel that the world needs something inspiring NOW , and her story seems to be that of the underdog - triumphing over adversity. I wish her all the best on the Talent competition. She has the talent, and the charm, and will sell many CD's, in my opinion. Good Luck from Washington state....

Well, go Susan, go! You look wonderful! You are so incredibly talented and an inspiration to us all. Just goes to show that great talent only gets better with time. Hope you are actually able to do the duets with Elaine Paige and Donny Osmond. We would welcome you with open arms here in the US! Can't wait for that first CD to to come out.

Watching this, it's obvious that Susan had an incredible vocal instrument even as a young woman. It would have been wonderful if someone had taken note and steered her in the direction of pursuing formal vocal training and a professional career back then, but maybe she wasn't ready back then. Her voice is beautiful, but she's very held back and not nearly as expressive and confident as she was on her BGT performance. Sometimes people need time to grow strength and confidence before they're ready to shine in the sun. ;-) Shine on, Susan, shine on!

BTW; JC Superstar is one of my all time favorites!

Susan was thoroughly under-appreciated in her native town, no matter what all those neighbours say now, most of them thought she was just a retard who liked singing. She was teased and outcast all her life. What's happened now is a proper miracle. Check out this forum, it's the local "lads" talking about her: http://www.hmfckickback.co.uk/showthread.php?t=48327

This article is also fairly detailed: http://www.sundaymail.co.uk/tv-showbiz-news/entertainment-news/2009/04/12/brave-singer-in-britain-s-got-talent-tribute-to-beloved-mum-bridget-78057-21273377/

Susan, I would like to hear you do some Patsy Cline songs like "Crazy" during one of the competion songs. Whatever you sing I'm sure it will be great. I'm already standing in line for your first CD!

Like a fine wine your voice has matured beautifully with age, even better now than when you were 25!! My day is just not the same if I don't listen to to your voice at least half a dozen times. I especially love Cry me a River which is one of my favorite songs of all times. No one sings it like you Susan, and I have listened to every version. Just longing for more from you!! I just hope you get the right advice and management. I can imagine how stressful it is for you right now. Don't be pushed into anything you don't think is right for you. Even if you do pull out of Britain's got talent you have already won! Sending love and wishing you all the happiness and success you so deserve. x

Nice find! Dreams do come true. Hope it does not turn into a nightmare. Her body language in the video shows a shy and insecure side to her. It must be a little overwhelming with all the new attention. Can't wait to see Pebbles makeover. ; )

Wow! Fantastic! Thanks heaps to the Daily Mirror for unearthing this precious video of so many years ago - a piece of rare gem! There was no musical background and yet her voice and singing flourished! And now, I'm so very happy that at last she's able to share her most beautiful gift with all of us! Thank you very much, Susan, for having the great desire and confidence to sing on TV! Thank you to "Britian's Got Talent" for being there, for providing a most wonderful showcase for those talents ... especially such magnificent voice of our beautiful Susan! Please continue to treat her very nicely.

I agree with those above who note how lovely Susan's voice was at 25. Look how shy she is - one arm across her chest, the other hand up on her cheek. She could have been 'discovered' then - but perhaps she was not yet ready for it. Her shyness was probably the biggest obstacle. But, they say that good things come to those who wait. I think Susan was meant to attend to other matters in her life first. While living life, her voice had a chance to mature and mellow into the fine instrument it is today. It's so refreshing to see someone achieve success and acclaim via the road less travelled. Too many of us get hung up on the idea that we are supposed to reach certain milestones at specific points in our lives - how constraining that mindset is! Susan got over that, got on with it, and, it turns out, is an incredible inspiration to many of us. That seems to be part of her appeal.

Oh - and at the very end of this clip, you can hear someone saying, "Wow!"
